Candy is scheduled for another try on next Wed.  Tis a pain when it is a waste of time kind of trip.

Marilyne

Joan - that's terrible, that Candy has to wait another week, when she is in pain.  It could be something serious, that should be addressed quickly.

wjoan

The medical system has no feelings.

Mary Ann

Joan, everything is computerized and computers do what they are told - no deviations!

Mary Ann

wjoan

Mary Ann, unfortunately humans must program them.

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I'll probably miss seeing the beet pellet ship the afternoon.  It will arrive at 4:00, Duluth time, which will be 2:00 here. I have an appointment at 1:00, so doubtful that I will be back in time. The last time I saw a boat from The Netherlands, it was very attractive and new looking - Painted red, white and blue and very clean.  I hope you have a chance to see it.

Joan - Candy must be exhausted from the pain.  I wish she could have the ultrasound sooner, but everything seems to move slowly in today's medical world.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, if you look in here as soon as you get home, the time has been changed to 4:30 pm and who knows if that will hold.  I've waited for some departures and the boats just sit there and I've gone to bed before they have left the dock.

We've had an absolutely beautiful day today with the temperature in the 70s.  I sat on the deck with the cat for a while and he enjoyed the slight breeze.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - That was hardly worth waiting for! ha ha :D   As I said, the last one I saw from The Netherlands, was a large white boat, with red and blue accents, and flying the flag of the Netherlands. V very attractive!  Oh well, there will always be more!

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I think if you look at the schedule, you will find the Vlieford will arrive tomorrow or the next day, at least they're in the list.  They had changed the schedule for the ship to leave at 4:30, which might have given you a chance, but the ship left at 4:14 instead.

I've been watching another tonight and it isn't an ore boat, but larger than the power boats.  It started up the river, crossed under a bridge, then headed south.  All of a sudden it turned around and was in the middle of the harbor last I saw and the schedule says it will go out at 9:23, which is 10:23 my time so I don't think I'll see it go out.  It is the Vista Star.

I wish all days could be like this - great temperature and slight breeze.  My neighbor usually does some work in my front area and yesterday she had some fabric down on the ground; I could not figure what it was.  I caught her tonight and what she has laid down is something with seeds in it and we will have butterflies and maybe hummingbirs.  A former neighbor did that many years ago and seeds keep the thing going for many years.  I hate to say too much to my neighbor because I have some little bulbs (snow drops and some little blue flowers) in there and I don't want to lose them.  I think I'm safe.

What a rainy week we are having. A flood watch/warning is in effect now, and we are to have heavy rains again tomorrow. My grass is getting a bit high. I hate to think how high it will be before I can mow it.

I was not surprised by the results of our primaries this week. Even so, I was a little disappointed that only one of those I voted for won the nod for the November elections, and he ran unopposed. The primary race was very lackluster with very few ads and very little information on most of the candidates. Sorry to say money won again, because only the rich dudes could afford the ads. The other wins were people whose names are known through various news reports over the last few years or are up for reelection. That's about all I am going to say about anything political.

That is about all that has been going on here this week - rain and primaries.

I continue to watch the news out of Hawaii on the eruption. The daily updates and pix are posted on YouTube. I've also been doing some of the trivia questions on YouTube and continue to watch various science and travel clips, and occasionally, movie trailers and SciFi shorts. Otherwise, my nose is usually buried in a book.

Hi Everyone.  It is another overcast morning and rain this afternoon is likely.  The same was forecast for yesterday and we ended up with only a light shower.  We had a good meal last night at church and then Scott came out.  We got to chat with one of the great grandchildren for a few minutes.  Today, after coffee, Scott and I are going over to the Target store in Augusta and have our cellphone switched from AT&T to Consumer Cellular.  It is much cheaper and they use the same AT&T towers over the country.  He got my iPhone unlocked and this morning I backed it up onto the computer and then reset it and am now in the process of having it restored from the backup. This will be plenty for one day.

Joy, I just looked through the pages showing the links to the old radio shows.  I expect there must be a way to search for them.  Surprisingly I recall a great many of the shows.  Have you ever had fish tacos?  I used to think that sounded terrible but tried them and found they are quite tasty.

Joan, sure glad Candy doesn't have to wait another month for the test as a week is still a long time when you are in pain. Apparently the medical system is overwhelmed with paperwork and dealing with the insurance companies.

Mary Ann, you are having nice temperatures.  Nice you could sit on the deck.  A slight breeze always feels so good especially if the humidity isn't too high. Hopefully your existing flowers will be able to come through the materials that the seeds are planted in.  You should have some pretty flowers.

MarsGal, rain in welcome but floods are not.  Sure hope your area doesns't experience floods.  We are getting a lot of political ads on TV as Georgia has primary elections in a few days.  The TV stations have to love this time of the year.  Of course I live in South Carolina so can't vote in Georgia.  I am thankful for the mute button.

Marilyne, it sounds like you got to see the ship and it wasn't up to the standards of the one you referenced as being very pretty and clean.

MarsGal

You are probably right about the stations loving the extra ads. When I worked, years and years ago, at a broadcast station the FCC or whoever the powers that so ordained it required political ads must be paid in advance. I'm guessing that losing campaigns had a habit of not paying their bills. I suspect the requirement still holds.

I am not happy about lots of rain encouraging the grass (or in my case, "the weed patch") to grow so fast. I do hate mowing the lawn. However, it is an excuse not to get out there just yet. I am still waiting on an order of some bug repellent. The gnats and bitey bugs are horrendous this spring. I don't think they sprayed along the river yet. Besides, I think their budget is going more to monitoring and spraying for mosquitoes the last year or so. They only spray for mosquitoes when they detect West Nile, Zika and the like.

Ticks are another matter. I think I read that PA has some of the highest incidences of Lyme Disease. In fact, George found out last month that he had it and was treated for it. Still, if you've had it a while, the complications are pretty much permanent if I understand it correctly. My former neighbor has a dog that got it and now has trouble getting up and down the stairs.

Marilyne

MarsGal - Our primaries here in California, aren't until the first Tuesday in June. We have twenty-seven candidates on the ballot for Governor! :o The two predicted winners who will run against each other in November, are both Democrats.

Larry - It doesn't take much to entertain me anymore! :D  I do try to catch a couple of the boats everyday on the Duluth webcam.  It's unusual to see a large one that looks bright and colorful, like the one I saw from The Netherlands. Most are dark and worn, and look like they've been working hard for many long years.

Mary Ann - Your neighbor's fabric thing, sounds very interesting!  Now that we no longer have a cat, I would like to look into getting something like that to attract birds and butterflies.  I'm afraid it might get ruined by the squirrels, rabbits and crows?  I was sort of half planning to go to the nursery today, and if I do, I'll ask about it.    I try to follow the schedule for the boats that are arriving and departing, but I have learned that the times are not always accurate, and sometimes a boat will arrive that was not scheduled . . . or one that was on the schedule will never appear.  I think I mentioned a while back, that my husband's uncle worked on the docks, loading and unloading, for his entire life . . . until he retired.  He and his wife lived in Superior.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, type in "preseeded flower mats" and you will get a site that shows what kinds of mats there are.  My neighbor bought one for butterflies but they have others too.  She cut the fabric into 12" squares and placed them on the ground then put black dirt over them.  I did not see the package so I don't know about the directions.  The one I saw online was $6.  A former neighbor bought a mat many years ago and tore off pieces and put the pieces here and there.  Some also reseeded in the fall for flowers in the Spring.

I've followed the boats too and today they don't start until late.  The list only showed one from Duluth and that leaves at 9:30 PM CDT, 10:30 PM my time and I'm headed for bed about that time.

MarsGal, we are having a lovely day so far and will go into the high 70s, maybe even to 80 degrees.  Our lawns are being mowed today.  I am allergic to grass but it seemed kind of nice to smell the new mown grass.  I took allergy shots for many years so I could tolerate my allergies so I don't worry about them.  The shots helped a lot.

Larry, I think it is nice that Scott goes to your Wednesday suppers (most of the time), then goes home with you so you have a good visit at least once a week.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann, thank you - I followed your suggestion, and typed in "preseeded flower mats".  Dozens of sites came up that were colorful and descriptive.  I'll probably order from Amazon, if I don't see anything at the nursery.  My yard is so dull and bland, that I would like to perk it up a little in places.  I'm no longer able to get down to ground level, to dig and plant.

FlaJean

It’s 83F here,  We have our AC on and I’m sitting here with a sweater on even tho the thermostat is set on 78F.  We both have “hay fever” so can’t put up with too much fresh air.  I do sit out on the back porch for short periods and watch the birds.  They don’t seem to mind us as long as we don’t make sudden moves.  I think we will soon have some little bluebirds as Papa Bluebird is getting quite vigilant and Mama Bluebird keeps sticking her head out of the nest to see what’s going on.

Thanks for your kind thoughts about my grandson.  He is our oldest and was our only grandchild for 8 years until his brother was born.  I am closer to him than the other two as I babysat him a lot when’he was little.  I have to admit he has a special place in my heart.

Larry, we have only lived in the Panhandle for two years in March. And we have had plenty of rain in these two years.  It rains more here than it did in Central Florida.  we had permanent water restrictions in Ocala, but the last couple of years they were more lenient.

Joan, that just seems wrong that your daughter has to wait a week because of a mistake by the doctor’s office.  I just hope she doesn’t have anymore problems like that and  that they are able to find the problem.

wjoan

FlaJean, me too.  She is not feeling well and spends most her time laying down.

Lindancer

Joan, I am so sorry your daughter has to suffer because of someone elsles mistake.   My doctor that I have had for 20 years, and he said he would retired if he could afford it.  He is only 55 The paper work takes up so much of his time, and then he cannot treat his patients like he would like,  HE IS TOLD HOW MUCH TIME HE IS SUPPOSE TO SPEND WITH EACH PATIENTS. I am sorry did not mean to write in all capitals. I am not use to this new small keyboard

Click for Riverhead, NY Forecast

wjoan

Lindancer, I think it was the Ins. Co. that put  the limit of time <usually 15  minutes> on visits. They have also put a limit on the number of things that the DR. can treat on each visit.  This has the patient coming back more often to get all the problems fixed.  Not to my liking, that is for sure.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, if  you're watching - or can watch - at 9:30 pm CDT (would be 7:30 your time) a ship is supposed to leave from Duluth.  I see the arrow is pointed for departing - which doesn't always mean a thing.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

JoanW, Lindancer, I used the "Wellness Visit" feature on my insurance policy for the first (and last) time last year. It is a once a year free visit.  What a tremendous waste of time and tax-payer money. The Dr. gets to sit there and listen to you and do practically nothing. Anything that comes up must be taken care of on another visit. I am not sure if it is an Ins Co thing or a Medicare thing. I refuse to use it again. I wonder what they were thinking to add that to the Medicare program. Trying to encourage people, who might not otherwise, to visit the Dr.?

This year I went in for my yearly check up and blood work and the Dr's. office billed it such that the Ins. Co. wouldn't pay. The insurance CSR said they marked it as a periodic visit which they don't pay for rather than the yearly physical. I am waiting to see if the Dr's. office changes the coding and resubmits. Haven't received a bill yet. Could be I need to change to another policy. I don't think my Sister, who must get blood work every six months, has to pay more than the co-pay them. In fact, George suggested I look into a Supplemental rather than the Advantage program I have.

This morning it is overcast. Yesterday the weather forecast said we were supposed to be getting heavy rains again today. Today, they are just calling for light rain all day. Temp is 61. Tomorrow, more rain forecast, after that it should dry out enough to mow the lawn.

I continue to watch the news updates regarding the volcanic activity on the "Big Island" that are posted to YouTube. Haven't checked on it this morning yet.

Hi Everyone.  We have another overcast day.  We had rain all morning and most of the afternoon yesterday.  It was just the right kind that soaks into the soil.  I noticed our humidity outside this morning is 97% and we may get more rain today.  This is the day for the housekeeper but nothing else is yet on the schedule.  She left a message last night that she would be late today as they are closing on the sale of their old home after a long period of having it on the market.  I am hoping Pat will feel up to going out for our main meal today.  She was feeling better yesterday. I don't plan to do much as am still tired from yesterday.

Yesterday Scott and I went to a Target store to switch our cell phone carrier from AT&T to Consumer Cellular.  The lady was waiting on other people there ahead of us dealing with a problem and we waited probably 30 minutes only to find out she had only 1 sim card and we needed four as were adding four lines.  She called another Target store and they had the four we needed.  So we went to Panda Express for some lunch and then drove about 20 minutes to get to the other Target store.  The tech there wasn't busy and she really knew what she was doing.  We were out of there in 25 or 30 minutes.  She installed the sim card in my phone and it works beautifully.  When we got back to the house Scott put it in his mother's phone and we couldn't get any signal.  I had to lay down and rest as was pretty exhausted but then heard her on the phone.  Apparently it took an hour or so for the service to be established.  So now we both have good phone service for about half the price of what we have been paying.  It uses the same AT&T cell towers so we really notice no difference in quality.

MarGal, any company dealing with campaign ads is wise to collect upfront.  I have a friend who has Lyme Disease and it is terrible.  At one time they thought he had Mad Cow Disease.  He is better but will never be well.  It impacted his motor skills and thinking ability.  I sure hope George has escaped these problems. I get a paper on every claim submitted to Blue Cross/Blue Shield and often it is denied for some reason that requires a re-submission by the doctor's office.  If you have ever noticed the sheet they have to make there are many different things listed and it would really be easy to mark the wrong thing.

Marilyne, I have never heard of two Democrats running against each other in the general election.  I guess I am missing something by not checking out the shipping cams but sure I would forget to watch at the right times.

Mary Ann, we were only in the 70's yesterday but had very high humidity.  We really enjoy our time with Scott and he seems to feel the same about us.

Jean, I often wear a jacket in the house as with the AC is can be chilly.  I haven't been able to watch a bird nest and all the activity this year as took out the nexts last year.  It seems that a lot of the tropical storms tend to come across the panhandle of Florida.

deAngel, don't worry about the capital letters.  I didn't even think a thing about them as I read them.  I really feel for the doctor's now because of the paperwork and the insurance companies and the lawyer who can't wait to sue them.

Joan, Happy Birthday. I don't see how the Insurance company saves anything by limiting what the doctor can do in a given visit.

ShirleyN, thanks for alerting me to the fact that Joan has a birthday today.  Hope you and Danny are doing OK.

Mary Ann

Happy Birthday, Joan, may you have many more.  I am happy for you that you have at least two of your children nearby.

I think we will have a nice day today - in the 70s.

Larry, there is a boat schedule for the Duluth shipping and I try to write down the times in EDT because what is listed is CDT.  I don't watch most of the boats because, for one thing, they don't always follow their schedule, but it is nice to see the ships go in and out of the channel at Duluth because of their size.
