Gloria, my old schedule with this doctor was six months, but I think I saw him only the first time and after that a PA or NP.  Always had BP taken and an EKG.  Blood draw prior to the appointment, always an e-mail with results.  So it was a pleasant surprise when he said 'Come back in a year".  At 94 that's so nice to hear, isn't it?!  I'm watching golf from somewhere - it is Champions.  Lots of familiar names.

Joy, I have been watching two ships coming into Superior and when I viewed the cam, it was very foggy.  And the ship didn't appear so eventually, I went hunting for it.  It was out on the lake and not going anywhere.  I thought it was because of the fog but it turned out it is going to stay on the lake until another ship leaves tonight at 11 pm my time so I won't wait for that one.  The second ship kept coming and eventually stopped and will also wait for the other ship.

Joy, I used to have Bethany Beach on a computer and it may still be on one of my older ones; I also had Rehoboth Beach and another one, all in the same general area on the ocean.  I think I'll do without them as I have enough to look at now.

Marilyn, I have not turned on our a/c yet and it has been cool enough out (49-50 degrees) overnight that the furnace has gone on and I have that set at 72 degrees.  It won't be long now; I keep the air on at 78 also.  My grandmother came to live with us a few years after my mother died.  It wasn't that we needed her help but she wore out her welcome with my uncle's wife in MN - my dad's brother's wife and she clashed.  She was with us almost seven years.

I felt my phone (and it is MY phone because Tom has his own cell phone) was/is a landline and yes, it does plug into a phone outlet, the only outlet that works.  But I do have three phones that work off that outlet and main phone base.  They certainly are lighter than the old phone - princess, etc.

The cat and I sat on the deck for a while.  I think I enjoyed it more than he did and I ate my lunch out there.  By now the sun is where I sit and the deck is not usable in the late afternoon.  I have an outlet on the deck, so I think I could take this laptop out there, but I have never tried.

Tom was at a thrift store today and saw a computer desk that we are going to try to fit in the space I have.  It cost less than what I would have ordered from Amazon or any other store.

I think I've written enough!

Marilyne and Mary Ann, I enjoy your "books"'   :)

Mary Ann

Thanks, Shirley, I talk too much - probably because there's no one to talk to at home!  Ha!  How are you and Danny doing?

Dot just called me to see if I would go to the cemetery with her tomorrow to put some artificial flowers on Norm's grave.  I used to keep an urn on my folks' graves but it got to be too much work because I was the only one who did anything, so I had Norm bring the urn here and I put a basket of flowers in it and that is my memorial.

Both doing good Mary Ann - slowing down a lot, but then, who isn't?     Thanks for asking.

Hi Everyone - I received a message from Pat Scott Halbach. She is going in for hip surgery at 8:00 in the morning. She asked that I let everyone know. She would appreciate prayers and good wishes for her surgery and recovery. She had planned on the hip surgery at a  later date, but apparently they had an opening so this was a bit of a shock and surprise.

Mary Ann

Hi Beverly, thanks for the news about Pat Halbach.  I wish her success in the surgery.

How are you and Chape getting along?  Any trips in the future?

Come in again.

Mary Ann

so_P_bubble

Best wishes for Pat and easy recovery.  She will need PT for sure, but hopefully it will not be painful.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  Our morning has started off with rain and it still continues.  We are expecting more late this afternoon with only a small percentage chance until then.  I arose early this morning and realizing I wasn't going to go back to sleep I decided to get up and get busy.  One of the things I did was peel the three peaches we have had ripening on the counter for several days.  I split them with Pat and she will have them with her breakfast.  They were so juicy that I ate mine over the sink.  These South Carolina peaches are really, really good.

We did go to Ruby Tuesdays yesterday afternoon as we had planned for a delicious meal.  Today should be a quiet day and may just stay home all day.  I may make a quick trip to Dollar Tree to see about getting one of those chains that go around your neck that your glasses attach to.  I am constantly having to take my reading glasses out of my pocket and putting them back in my pocket.  If they don't have what I want I will go into the Walmart Pharmacy area at the front of the store and see what they have.

Mary Ann, when we online order from Walmart we get an email back showing what they didn't have in stock and what they have substituted unless Pat has marked the item as something not to substitute.  It is the grocery receipt. We get these little bags of lettuce salad at Aldi's and we have the same problem in it not wanting to stay fresh long.  The little bags are only $0.79 each and make four servings so if we have to dispose of some of it before it is used it still make a very inexpensive item that provides a nice side dish for our main entree.  The golfers are in Fort Worth, Texas this week at the Colonial Country Club.  I probably won't watch it until tomorrow afternoon and Sunday afternoon.

Marilyne, I just checked the website and  my Dr. Shah must also be from India. He went to medical school in India but interned and has worked in several American hospitals.  My lung doctor is also from India but speaks perfect English.  I know how hard it is to give up ice cream.  I have pretty much given up eating candy as was eating too much of it. I also don't wear shorts anymore for the same reason you don't.  In fact I usually wear a light jacket or sweater in the house because Pat likes to keep it cool.

Joan, glad to read that Candy was finally able to have the medical testing done.  I sure hopes that reveals the problem and that it is not something too serious.

Joy, it is pleasant to feel like doing somethings when we are feeling better.  Sunday is Elizabeth's birthday and she will turn 20.  Pat is going to fix an angel food cake, which is apparently her favorite, and serve it with fresh strawberries, which she also likes.  She has Sunday off so hope we can all get together to help her celebrate since she is away from her own family in Kentucky.  I hope the weather cooperates for your family get together on Sunday.

deAngel, my last Cardiologist always had her assistant takes the notes and then at the end of the appointment she sat in the room and dictated her own notes of the visit, which appears on the paper we are given to take home.  I really liked this practice.  She said she was tired of having to do those at 2 am in the mornings and this avoided that need.  I hope my new cardiologist does the same.

ShirleyN, like you I also enjoy the long postings and can't seem to write any short ones myself.

Beverly, thanks for posting about Pat's hip surgery today.  I am sure we all will be keeping her in our thoughts and prayers today and in the weeks to come as she goes through recovery.

Bubble, Pat has been laid up and in such pain for such a long time awaiting her turn on the surgery schedule that I am sure you are right that she is going to need a lot of PT to recover her strength.

Mary Ann

We have the start of a beautiful day and it should continue throughout the day.  The forecast is for 83 degrees.  I did not turn on the a/c yesterday and if I would get out of this computer room, it would not be necessary but I think I will turn it on later today.

Around noon Dot is going to pick me up and we will go out to lunch and also go to the cemetery as Dot has some artificial flowers to put on Norm's grave.  She feels if she put real flowers there, they would not last - and they wouldn't.  I haven't bought any flowers for my memorial urn for my folks and I have the urn beside my garage.  The American Legion has put a flag at Dad's grave.  I bought flowers and planted them in the urn when it was in the cemetery and I had no help so eventually, I asked Norm to bring the urn to my condo where I put flowers in it now.  I now have help - Tom!

Larry, my grocery does tell when they substitute something, only it is on the receipt I get when Tom gets the groceries - not in e-mail.  The substitution is usually with the cookies, but once I ordered a 4-pack of Kleenex and got four small boxes; I really needed the larger size, but I did have one that lasted until the next order.  Of course, I paid for what I got, not what I ordered and I don't remember if it was more or less.  Tom really appreciates the convenience of on-line ordering because all he has to do is call them when he is there to pick up the order and they bring it to the car.  Not only that occasionally there are freebies in the order; some we like, some we don't like!

When I was doing my own shopping, I would get the 6-oz package of salad stuff and I usually could get away with it in a few days if I ate salads at noon - which I often did  The only size they offer on-line is 12-oz and I can't do away with that much.  Tom has been getting baby spinach for his scrambled eggs and mixed vegetables so I can use that for my salad.  But the store has a garden salad for $2.50 which I often order and eat right away.  I had more salad stuff than what Tom likes, such as radishes and celery.  The way we order I'm better off with the garden salad.

I didn't notice my cardiologist taking notes, but what he discussed with me was the results of the tests and the EKG report was ready by the time I left.  I had to check out and the results of my visit were being printed as I checked out.  The check-out woman knew I am  to come back in a year and she said they don't make appointments that far ahead so they will call me.  This time was funny because I think we made the appointment in February and each month from February I received a reminder from the office about my May 23 appointment.  I mentioned it to the nurse and she said she would take care of that!

I guess I've shot my wad for the morning.  For someone with not much going on, I certainly have used a lot of space.

Good morning everyone: it's only 7:30 here, but I've been up for about an hour, and did get a few things done that were neglected yesterday.  Lately I've been lazy about cleaning up the kitchen after dinner, and have been waiting until morning to get it done.  For someone who doesn't cook much, I sure do use a lot of dishes, pots and pans, and silverware.  Seems like the kitchen counters and sink are always piled with everything.

I guess I'm the only one who hasn't yet used online ordering of groceries.  We only live a couple of long blocks from Safeway, so it's easy to get there and shop and get home again.  I've seen the delivery truck in the neighborhood and around town, to I know that lots of people use the service.  I do like to go to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's or other independent grocery stores a couple of times a week.  If I don't get out of here, I begin to go kind of stir crazy after a couple of days, and it gives me someplace to go.  I think Whole Foods also delivers, now that they are owned by Amazon, but it's probably very expensive.  Pretty soon Amazon, is going to own everything in the USA and other countries as well.  Their CEO, Bezos, is now listed as the richest person in the USA. :o

AJ has been working on the washing machine all week, and finally got it running yesterday.  I did a load last night, and see this morning that there is water that leaked onto the laundry room floor.  I know he'll continue to work on it until it is running smoothly.  Fortunately, he is good natured and never gets angry when things go wrong.

wjoan

Marilyne, you are not alone.  I have never used  it nor will I.  My son does my shopping for groceries for me every Friday and I am quite pleased with that.  :)

Joy

Approaching another beautiful, sunny afternoon.  I think it will be in the low to mid 80's today.

I am feeling so much better this morning, so I guess the antibiotics are working.   Still kind of feeling washed out, but other problems are better.

wjoan,  you are fortunate that your son does your grocery shopping. Most men do not like to shop.  My husband did most of the grocery shopping while he was still living.  There are several people here where I live that have nobody to shop for them.  We do have a bus, but they only go shopping every other week.  Transportation getting to places is one of the worst problems for Seniors who don't drive or have a time getting around. I hate to grocery shop and then hate more to have to put all the things away. So, I am very pleased that I can do most of my shopping over the internet.  Like Larry, I am pleased with the service at Walmart.   I arrange  the time for the order to be picked up with my DIL, as she makes several trips a week there.  So far, it is working out good. Except, I still have to put it all away.  LOL

Marilyne, since I haven't been feeling too good,  I have done the same as you.  I need to get in my kitchen and clean up the mess.  My dishwasher needs unloading, also.  I, too, use a lot of dishes and silverware.  This morning I had to search in the dishwasher for a spoon.  I will get around to it before I eat lunch.

Glad your got your washer fixed.   I live in a Senior apartment and they just installed brand new washers and dryers in the 4 laundry rooms in the building.  I have not been over to see them yet.  Not sure if they are all operational as yet.   I will need to do some laundry the first part of next week. But, I did notice on the bulletin board that the price has gone up about 50 cents a load.  That isn't too bad, I guess.  Will check them out later today.

I will be busy tomorrow making some salads for our family's cook-out on Sunday.  So looking forward to seeing my little great-grands !  Have not seen them since Christmas.  They all get excited when they see me.  That makes my day.

Mary Ann, I am sure you will enjoy your lunch out with Dot.  My mother used to make arrangements for several different cemetaries for Memorial Day, but nobody continued.  My sons have told me that they visit their dad's grave every so often and "visit" with him.  I am happy that they do that.  One son doesn't work too far from the cemetery.   I, too, find I can't use all the lettuce up before it starts to turn brown.  I have been getting some of the salads that are for a single serving and all in a container.

And, I am like you..........I can get carried away when I get to writing a message.   So, don't feel like you are alone .  I , for one, really enjoy reading about everyone's days and activities.  Everyone seems to have an different interesting life.  And, that is what makes the world go round.

So keep on writing your "novels"  LOL

Have a wonderful afternoon and evening.

To continue the saga of online grocery shopping - I did my own shopping until it got to be a bit much and that was long after Tom came here to live.  I did like to be able to pick my own produce.  Tom did a good job when he took over, but his tastes are not the same as mine.  Grocery shopping took time out of his work day unless he did it at night or on the weekend, so when our store mentioned Fast Lane shopping, we took to it.  Tom established the account because he is the one who picks it up, but I pay for it.  I've always paid for the groceries, even when he did the shopping.  Either of us can go to the site online and order whatever we want.  There are pages and pages of groceries, almost everything they carry in the store.  Tom places the order and sets a time for pick up and the store lets him know when the order is ready; he goes after it, then puts things away.  He is so thankful for Fast Lane because it saves him a lot of time.  We don't have a Whole Foods in our end of town and it would take Tom a half hour to get there, pick up food, then a half hour back.  Walmart is about five miles or more from here, two Meijer stores are about two and three miles from here so we could take advantage of them too.  Meijer delivers, our store does not, I don't know about Walmart.  Our store is also about two miles from here.  Anyway, we are satisfied with the service and products.

Dot and I went to lunch, then I gave her a slight tour around where Norm and first wife lived, also I lived in the same subdivision, then headed for the cemetery.  Wouldn't you know it is Maintenance Day for the cemetery (Township cemetery) and we could not get in.  We'll try another day.  I used to live across the road from the cemetery before I moved here.

When I got back home, I sat on the davenport, leaned back, and napped.  The cat lay on the floor and napped.  When he woke up he walked back and forth in front of me, rubbing my shins.  I had the doors open and I was very comfortable,  but both thermometers read 79 degrees and I turned on the a/c.  It is now 77.5 in here and the a/c has stopped.  I am very comfortable.

No boat news so I'll close the cover of this book to store up more stuff for next time.

Mary Ann - It does seem like bad timing on the part of the cemetery, to be closed today. Memorial Weekend officially starts today, and I know that lots of people like to go early with flowers or decorations, so they will be visible and look attractive on the grave for the entire weekend.

We usually go to the gravesite of AJ’s parents and his brother, on Memorial Day itself.  Reason being that it is a huge cemetery, divided into sections, and we've always enjoyed watching the different ceremonies going on everywhere.  The Civil War section is most interesting.  There's large group of Civil War re-enactors, who are dressed in Civil War uniforms, with the women dressed in the clothing of that time.  They have a short re-enactment there, where they go through a military routine, and then shoot a cannon.  It’s really quite effective.

Our favorite is the World War II, section.  They have a stage, with lots of young military servicemen who speak in honor of the older veterans who served.  There are always a few vets from WWII, who get up and say where they served. Also a US Army band playing lots of patriotic music.  There is a separate Vietnam War section, but it’s always so crowded, that we have never gotten close enough to see what’s going on on the stage.  This year, we’re talking about skipping all the ceremonies, and going on Sunday, instead of Monday.  No place to sit down, and neither of us can stand in one place for long without great discomfort.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, the cemetery ceremonies at AJ's parents gravesite sounds impressive.  I am sure some of our older cemeteries have ceremonies and I know there are area parades, but I am unable to stand for any length of time myself.  I think I'll see about going to Lowe's (near here) to get some baskets for the front of the porch and the empty urn and make that be all.

Mary Ann

Hi Everyone.  We had another rainy day yesterday and expect more rain today.  The lawnkeepers haven't been able to take care of the lawns this week as it has been so wet and the yards have really grown as they do this time of the year.  I plan on picking up a prescription at Walmart this morning, stopping by the fruit stand for more strawberries, sweet corn and peaches and then if I still have any energy left I will go to a meeting.  I plan on watching the golf match later this afternoon.

Mary Ann, was sorry that you couldn't get into the cemetery so that Dot could leave the flowers.  It is sort of unbelievable that they would have it closed this week.  I don't expect the Walmart online ordering to be perfect as these are young kids who go around and gather why we have ordered.  They do a pretty good job.

Marilyne, my wife also seems to use about every dish and utensil in the kitchen when she cooks.  I have never minded buying groceries and still don't if I can get a riding cart to use but often they are not available or the batteries have run down.  It sounds like nice services at the cemeteries for Memorial Day out in your area.  I think we have some of the same thing that happens here.

Joy, none of our grocery stores yet deliver but I expect that service one of these days.

Mary Ann

Larry, I think the cemetery was closed only for yesterday.  I don't know how many cemeteries there are in the township and I suppose they have to maintain each one, but they could have done the maintenance in another week, either before or after - and after would probably be a better choice.

It is going to be another scorcher today and I'm waiting for the a/c to go on now.  I show it is 78 degrees in this room, but the thermostat is in the hallway and probably is not that warm.

This coming week I will start accumulating things for my visit to Indps.  I will leave Friday, June 1, next Friday.

Mary Ann

Joy

Not yet noon, so I can still say Good Morning.

I have a lot planned for today, but have to stop and rest in between.  I find that if I am kind of "antsy", if I get on the computer, it really does calm  me down.

I have cooked the potatoes and eggs for the salad. Waiting for them to cool.  I have been buying the little red potatoes in a steamer bag.  So easy and I usually don't peel them.  I  still have to grate the cabbage for the slaw, but I do that in my food processor and it is quick.  I like the cabbage grated real fine.  I also make my own dressing for the slaw, but like Kraft real mayonnaise for the potato salad.  Then need to pack up all the other things I need to take and  will just have the food to put in a cooler tomorrow.

Larry, there are several grocery stores around Maryland  that do deliver, but they haven't gotten to our area yet.  I do buy some things from Walmart that I can have delivered.  I think you have to spend $35  for free delivery. I only do this every couple months.  Can't get anything fresh that way. But, I have gotten paper products if Amazon is out of what I use.  And, they deliver in 2 days, just like Amazon.

My son gave me a $100 Amazon gift card for Mother's Day and birthday. I do have a wish list on the Amazon site. Just haven't  gotten around to doing it yet.

I hope everyone will have a pleasant week end.

Joy, those amazon gift cards are really nice, aren’t they?  My son and wife often give me one for a birthday, etc.  there is always something I can use and if there is a little left I’ll get a book for my iPad.  I have a Kindle app on my iPad and the book downloads immediately and I have a book to read that I wouldn’t have gotten otherwise.  The Kindle books for the iPad are always a lot cheaper than the hard copies.

SCFSue

My oldest son and his wife give me Amazon gift cards for Christmas and birthdays which I certainly appreciate.  I belong to a local book club and try to find used versions of the monthly book at low cost--and sometimes can't so just don't read the book.  If that is the case I take notes during the discussion and then decide if I want to look further for a used version.  In many cases, book club members who Did read the book will put it into a box for anyone who might want to read it after the discussion.  I always browse through that box before going home after the meeting.  Occasionally my sister who lives at a retirement community in Florida has also read the book for her book club and will send me her copy.

Joy - your potato salad and cole slaw sound delicious!  I've never heard of the red potatoes in the steamer bag, but I'm sure they're in my freezer section at the grocery store - I just haven't noticed them.  Anything that saves time and effort, is a good thing at our age!  I know what you mean by calming down on the computer when you're feeling "antsy".  Sometimes I have something troublesome on my mind that I can't stop worrying about.  If I go to my favorite online Solitaire site, I'm forced to concentrate, and it gets my mind back on an even keel.  Coming here to S&F, and  responding to a post helps too.

Mary Ann - I wish you could lend me some of your "scorcher" weather, for a few hours!  Just enough to warm things up would be fine. ha ha!  We're still overcast, cool and windy.  Nights are cold enough that I had to put the comforter back on the bed last night.  Well, I shouldn't complain, because I know that when the hot weather finally arrives, I will quickly tire of it, and long for a cool, cloudy day like today.   How long do you plan to stay in Indps?  I will be nice for you to have a change of scene, and a visit with your relatives.

When I worked downtown, I would go to a department store where their library sold rental books for what had not been charged for rental and I acquired quite a library that way at little cost.  I have favored non-fiction, especially biographies, and most of them are those varieties, although I do have a set of 'fiction based on fact"  (I don't remember the titles).  My eyes don't focus now and it hard to read the computer, let alone a book, so I don't read now.  But it was fun while it lasted!  I still have most of the books.

Marilyn, the thermometer in this room reads 89 degrees outside and I would settle for some cool and breeze!  As I have mentioned previously, I am in shorts and I'm very comfortable - inside.  The cat and I have not been on the deck and I doubt we will until late.  He tolerates hot weather better than I do.

I will go to Indy Friday, June 1 and come back Monday June 4.  I really don't like to be away from home too long any more.  My visit fits in with Tom Harton's schedule too.  He used to be editor of the Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ) and he kind of retired from that, now working two days a week.  But recently, he added another two days so Monday and Friday are clear.  Tom has a brother who is the father of the quads plus one other.  There are three girls and two boys (the older one is a girl) and they're all adults now - 30 for one and 27 for the quads.  Their grandmother was my first cousin and I've always been close to that family - I call them my second family.  I think this will be my last trip down there, but who knows; if there should be a wedding or funeral, I might attempt it.  The two Toms meet halfway and I switch cars which is convenient for all.  I take my computer with me.

Marilyne,  The red potato's in the steamer bag are not frozen..  I get them in the produce section of Walmart.  It says on the bag 8 to 9 minutes.  But the first time I fixed them for potato salad, I did the 9 minutes and they would not done quite enough.  So, today, I cooked them for 10 min. and they were perfect.  You have to be careful, as the bag is really hot.   I have them all cut up now and just resting a bit and then I will finish making the salad.  I have the celery, onions and hard boiled eggs all cut up ready to add.  Won't take me long.  I just use Kraft Real Mayonaise and some season-all and dill and parsley.   Hardly ever have any left=overs.

We also have green beans in a steamer bagâ€"also In the produce dept. and not frozen.

The other day I did get a FROZEN steamer bag of potatoes by Ore-Ida.  You just microwave the bag (no slits in it) and when you open the bag the potatoes are in perfectly cooked cubes that are already salted.   I happened to mash mine but you could just as easily let them cool and use for potato salad.  It was a good amount of potatoes.

Jean,  I will have to look for them.  Wondering, tho,  if they might be  too soft for potato salad.  But worth a try, anyway.  My freezer seems to be so full all the time that I usually don't have much room in it. It is good that they are already salted,  as the whole steamers are not salted and I really like a little salt when you bite into a piece in a salad.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Everyone.  We actually start the morning with some sunshine.  It is suppose to get to 81 degrees today and around 5 pm on thought the evening the chances of thunderstorms increase.  I did not feel up to par yesterday and even though I had a very good nights sleep last night after going to bed at 8 pm I am already pretty worn down.  So I am not going to go to Sunday School and Church this morning.  I do have to make a quick trip to the grocery store for an Angel Food cake mix.  Pat tried to fix one yesterday in the Instant Pot as she had gotten a special Angel Food cake pan to use.  However, it turned out a disaster and very flat so she wants to fix one in the oven.  Today is Elizabeth's birthday and she and Jennifer will be out late this afternoon for a little surprise party for her 20th birthday.  We will have cake and strawberries and I don't know yet whether Pat is going to try to fix a meal but I hope not.  Other than that I just plan to rest today.

Yesterday afternoon, Judy (Pat Scott Halbach's sister] posted the following in the Christian and Friends discussion:  I was talking to Pat this AM, she is doing well.  She was up during the night to go to the washroom, and is in much less pain with her left side than she has been in for some time. Except for getting up to the washroom she slept through the whole night. The weight of the bedding was too heavy however that is an easy remedy.  She said the pain was like a dull headache.  Now comes rehab.  There was talk of her going to a rehab facility for about 6 weeks, that will be good as she is alone at home.
Thank you everyone for praying. Please continue to pray for continued strength and rest.

Joy, I hope you didn't wear yourself out yesterday preparing for the special family day today.  We have found that the Aldi's canned potatoes make very good potato salad as they are not in anyway mushy and they are already cooked.  Of course the red potatoes in a steamer bag should be easy to use as well and we haven't tried them. It seems that Pat never has a problem coming up with a $35 order from Walmart for home delivery in addition to her online grocery ordering.

Jean, I read ebooks either from the library or that I have gotten free as purchases from Amazon.  I find some of the free stores to be very good.  I read them on the Kindle app on my iPhone or on the computer.

Sue, Jean and Joy,  occasionally I have gotten an Amazon or restaurant gift card as a gift and really appreciated it.  Over the years I have purchased quite a few used books and always found them satisfactory.

Marilyne, I am with you on being in favor of anything that makes meal preparation easier.  Pat had some shredded chicken in the freezer that she had thawed out and she made enchiladas for our dinner last evening.  She could sit in her chair at the kitchen island and put them together.  We enjoyed them with a lettuce salad topped off with an ice cream bar and that made a very nice dinner for us last evening.

Mary Ann, most places we have lived have had library book sales once a year where you could buy a paperback for fifty cents or a hard back for $1.  We used to enjoy going to those and would pick up several books to read.  Now it is ebooks.  Our Senior Luncheon group always sets up a table to share books.  I have taken a few of those but never got around to reading them so have taken them back for others to enjoy.  Since my cataract surgeries I now see so well that reading is a joy once again and usually try to read when I first lay down in the afternoon and then at bedtime.

Bubble, cute graphic featuring the twins.

Thanks Larry for the update on Pat's condition.  I do have a question about a piece of info - it says that Pat is alone at home.  I know she got married, did something happen to her new husband?

Thanks Bubble for that cute picture of the twins.

Good morning.  A quick visit this morning. It is pretty right now, but they are calling for thunderstorms.  Guess we will have an indoor picnic.

Larry, you will read on the Soda Shoppe page, that I did have a long day yesterday.  But, I feel rested now, and all I will have to do when I get there is sit and be able to enjoy  the company.

ShirleyN,  I was thinking the same thing about Pat Halbach being alone.  But, I do know that they also have another home in Virginia, I think it is,  and possibly,  her husband is only allowed to stay in Canada a certain amount of time. I do think he is probably ok.

Larry, thanks for the hint about the canned potatoes.  We do have an Aldi's in the next town, but I haven't been there.  I used to go to one down near my friend  when I was visiting her.  My friend doesn't buy meat or produce there, but she told me their corn flakes cereal is the best she has ever had. She will stop there for milk and bread.

Larry,  I have always bought used books from  Amazon and have never had a problem with any of them being damaged or marked in.  Most of the times they are just like brand new.  My son likes Civil War books, so I usually get those kind for him.  And, if I ever see a book mentioned that I think I would like,  I will look it up in their used book section.  And, I have never paid for any of the books I have on my KIindle.  I get an e-mail every day from  BookBub with all free books.  And, I can order them from Amazon . Even tho I pay them through Amazon, the charge is always zero.  I have so many books I will never live to read them all.  I need to find out how to delete some of them.   I find that I am reading books from Authors that I would never have had known about.

I need to finish getting ready.  Hope everyone will have a nice Sunday.

Joy
