Hi everyone, I stopped in today to see how you were doing and noticed the interest in the new "Net Neutrality." What it means is that the content you receive is censored according to how your provider decides what it will and will not allow you to access. In many ways, that means what companies pay your provider to be allowed sites.

It also means that the higher speed you pay for will also allow you more access with fewer issues to reach specific sites. What it means, in essence, is that the Internet in this country is no longer free regarding content but censored according to payment by the consumer and the companies on the web.

Larry, I was just cleaning out some drawers in my dresser, guess what I found?  Can't guess??  LOL  A T Shirt that says "GEORGIA PEACH BASH  and never worn.

Yup....  we are going to be able to see less unless we pay a hella-va-lot more....   too bad,  so sad..
and so it goes here in the good old USA....

Good after noon, again another pleasant day

Patricia :missyou:  :rose:

Larry yes we still have our covered dish luncheon Homemakers is 2nd Friday of the month and Glenwood Lassies the first Wed.The US open starts Thursday, but the roads were gridlocked yesterday. at 6AM. If you look at a map of Long Island you will see two forks, called North Fork, where I now live and South Fork where the Open is played there are  two roads that go east to Montauk, the end of the Island. 39 goes right by the golf course .and 25 or Montauk HWY goes through Southampton village The radio this morning said you will go 10 miles in 2hours.  A couple of the players are staying here in Riverhead, it was suppose to take them 16 minutes to the gate, but they got tied up in the traffic and missed the practice starting time.

Mary Ann, I have belonged to this Homemakers for 25 years, we meet in the old  wooden school house, which now is a registered landmark.  The town now owns it ans lets different groups use it.  This year they told us we can only sell plants, no cookies or cakes.  At our Achievement Day Bazaars . Which was the only way we were allowed to make money

Gloria, it kind of looks like there won't be any ways for groups to make money in the future.  At least not by selling home made foods.

I met my retiree friends today and there were four of us.  Tom takes me so he eats at the same restaurant, but not with us.  I had a delicious tilapia sandwich which was also hot, like I like it.  It was funny in a way - one of the women had some coupons and there was one for a fish sandwich $6.29 with fries.  On the regular menu the fish without fries was $6.79 so I had to get the fries too if I used the coupon.  I eat very few fries and I know they throw the rest away.  What a waste of food.  I know that is common in most restaurants.  I brought home some strawberry shortcake to eat later.  I doubt it was made with Michigan berries.  Ours all seem to come from California now.

We've had a lovely day so far but we had threat of rain this afternoon.  So far the rain has not come.

I just had a nice nap and I'm not sure I'm awake yet.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

we’ve had a rainy day with some thunder in the distance.  Good for the grass.  Son-in-law usually mows our yard on Monday but not today, hopefully tomorrow.

Gloria, I used to always follow the US Open and other tennis matches, but I don’t even know the players’ names anymore.  Ive been watching more golf the last several years.

Marilyne did you ever get your sound figured out for the Duluth canal cam?

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  It will be another hot day here after a relatively cooler day yesterday.  We enjoyed the salad bar at Ruby Tuesday's yesterday and did pick up our grocery order.  This morning Pat plans on attending her Gift's Group at the Church and I will take her and go on down to the coffee group at the cafe while I wait for her.  Scott is planning on making our dinner tonight when he gets here.  It will be his specialty Taco Pie and we have plenty of salad mix to go with it.  I had to refilll my medicine boxes this morning and fix Pat's breakfast.

Marilyne, I sure hope the physical therapy is helpful to AJ.  It does help a lot of people.  Our dishwasher is the same as yours in requiring a lot of bending to remove the items on the bottom shelf.  The upper shelf is easy and putting the dishes away isn't hard either.  I always do the bottom shelf first so that I don't spill any water still in the dishes from the top shelf.  It is the plastic storage containers that are the worst for not drying very quickly.  I often just wash them by hand for that reason and they also take up a lot of room on the top shelf.

Patricia, good explanation of the Net Neutrality situation. It sure was good to see your posting from yesterday.  I have been missing your very interesting posting.  Are you about finished with your online classes for the summer or do you continue to work on them throughout the year?  How is the cat doing?

Joan, I think I gave that T-shirt to Stacey years ago as I generally don't wear T-shirts.  That was certainly a fun event and the only Bash I ever attended.  Good memories from the past.

Gloria, I understand what happens when the big golf tournament comes to town in terms of the roads and restaurants.  Augusta has been doing a lot to better handle traffic for the Master's Tournament and it apparently has helped.  I just avoid going across the river to Augusta on that week if possible and now they have added a Master's tournament for the women a few days before the men play.  Glad you are still able to have the potlucks for your women's groups.  I am sure the cookies and cakes the ladies of your Homemaker's group would be unsafe to sell!  Sure!!

Mary Ann, a group of four is still a nice bunch as all can participate in a conversation.

Jean, at least the golf and tennis matches are not so loud with crowd noise as other sporting events.  I am looking forward to watching some of the US Open golf this week.  The golf seems to have good announcers and commentators.

Mary Ann

Patricia, it was good to see your post yesterday and it's nice that you look in on us even if you do not post.  I don't look at a lot of web sites, but I wonder if this program will be able to continue; will we suffer the same fate as when on Senior Net.  This site and the Duluth ships are the main sites I watch, plus doing some puzzles.  Net Neutrality may knock me off the computer except for my offline genealogy program.

Larry, yes four women can carry on a lot of conversation - and we did.

It is the start of another warm day, into the 80s.  in fact we are to be in the 80s all week with even a couple days in the 90s.  I think some rain is to be expected, but in the meantime I have some plants that must be watered.

Larry, I think it is so nice that Scott goes to your place on Wednesdays and makes your dinner.

Mary Ann

Joy

Good morning.  Just a quick stop to say "Hello:".

Nothing exciting happening in my little corned of the world.   Don't have anything planned, except I want to call a friend, who called the other day and left me a message that she had been in the hospital.

Patricia,  I will agree with Mary Ann, that it is nice to see your message here this morning.   I do try to keep up with your interesting posts about Alaska on the Photo's page.

Larry, I am sure you and Pat will enjoy having Scott fix dinner for you.  I am not a big fan of Taco's, but I do like a quesadilla, with the flour tortilla's.  I think it is the fact that the taco's are usually hard and tend to break all apart when you bite into them.  I like the flour tortilla's better.  I guess a burrito would be similar to a taco???  My family is not big on Mexican food, so we rarely go to any Mexican places.  There is a new Mexican place that just opened right down the road from me, and it has gotten very good reviews.  Might try it sometime, as I  know they do have things that aren't that spicy. It is nice to go to someplace different once in a while.  I can always get some kind of a quesadilla.  Just don't like anything really spicy.

It is supposed to be hot and humid today, with a little bit less humid the rest of the week. A nice week end is predicted, also, after 3 or 4 rainy week ends.

Have a great Wednesday and enjoy the day.

Joy

BIG BOX

Marilyne

Mary Ann - Today there will be two boats, that will be easy for us to watch . . . meaning that the time frame will be good for all of us, providing we're home. The boat named MICHIPICOTEN, will be going under the bridge in the mid to late afternoon. I've seen it a number of times, so it's one of the busy ones that comes and goes a lot.  I've been trying to figure out what the second half of the name stands for??  The first part being MICHI, is obviously for Michigan, but I can't figure out the PICOTEN?

I hope I'm home to take a look, since it will only be around 2:00 pm, my time. I plan to get to the shoe store this afternoon, to buy a pair of comfortable sandals for the hot weather.  I'd like to get the style that slides on, so I don't have to fuss with buckles or velcro.  However, as I mentioned before, it's hard to find my size, so I'll likely have to end up taking a chance on ordering from Zappos.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I watched both boats as they departed and arrived.  I'm not sure the Michi in the name is for Michigan because the boat flies a Canadian flag.  While we've seen boats from the Netherlands and another place, most of the boats fly US or Canadian flags.  I think that means who owns the boat because they all go all over the Great Lakes.  I saw one go through the Soo Canal that I've seen in Duluth.  Looking at the boat info has gotten to be the first thing I do when I go online because I don't want to miss a moving boat.  There was a boat supposed to go out last evening at 7 pm but it didn't move.  This morning I looked and the time had been changed to 5:48 am.  I looked in at 8 am and that boat was still in port - in Superior, I think.  I haven't looked recently.

Kendrick helped me make my bed this morning and you can see each paw print!  I'll pull the covers together the next time I go in my bedroom.

I've got to have Tom take me to Rockford MI soon (just north of GR) to the Hush Puppy  store so I can get some shoes.  I'm wearing only one pair and that isn't good for my feet.  If I were getting dress shoes, I'd get narrow or AA but these don't seem to come in narrow, only medium.

Has anyone heard how Pat is recovering from her operation?

Good afternoon, suppose to have thunder storms this PM.  Of course I go to the hematologist this afternoon, for my blood test and also see the doctor. Last two visits I have not need the shot

Larry, A few of the players are staying here in Riverhead, and the 15 min. drive to Southampton took 1hr, 40 min.  Tiger solved the problem, he has bought his LARGE yacht to Sag Harbor.some have bought their campers and parked them in the parking lot. Now that is smart.  By the way I Keep wanting to ask how do you get into that Duluth post. I would like to see the ships. I got into one, but it was not live

MaryAnn, Taffy now has her own pillow and pillow case on my bed, and she seems to be very happy

There is a ship leaving right now - Joseph l Block.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Mary Ann,  which camera should I watch to see the ships coming and going?

Mary Ann

#8955
Callie, you watch the Duluth Canal Cam to see the ships come in and go out.  That is where you hear the horns blow.  At the lower right corner of the screen is a double arrow to click on to enlarge the screen to full size.  When  you are viewing the small screen, at the right is a list of places in blue (clickable) to follow the ships to the Harbor.  After they turn from the harbor, you lose sight of the boat - however - click on the Boat Schedule in the blue line above the screen and if a boat is leaving or arriving, click on the name of the boat.  At the right is a map of the area and you can follow the progress of the boat (either leaving or arriving).  I spend too much time on them. If there is no boat listed for the present time (or so), you won't see anything.

I have a tendency to explain things clear as mud, so if you (or anyone) has questions, I'll try to answer them - if I know the answer.

You can see I have too much time on my hands!!!

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Mary Ann,  I'm pretty good at "reading mud".    Thanks!

Mary Ann

Callie, I try, but it doesn't always come out the way I want it!  Thank you.

Hi Everyone. It is another bright and sunny day but we will be up into the 90's again this afternoon.  This is coffee morning and will pick up my friend on the way.  Either going or coming home I will stop at the Strawberry Stand and get some strawberries and peaches.  Yesterday I did take Pat for her gifts group bi-weekly meeting and while I waited I went to the cafe and spent an hour by myself.  We then stopped at Chick-fil-a for a quick lunch.  It was about 6 last evening when Scott got here and he made our dinner with the Taco Pie and we had a nice visit until after 9:30 and then really had a good nights sleep.

Mary Ann, I really doubt that we will see any big changes in the way we use the computer because of the net neutrality.  With our men's group at coffee we don't have many lapses in conversation either as we usually can find something to talk about.  We really appreciate Scott helping us when he comes out.  It is my understanding that the flag a ship carries represents where it is registered and the ownership may be in another country.  I think you explain things very well.

Joy, we do enjoy our time with Scott and it is a bonus when he takes over and fixes the meal.  We will mix this with eating out occasionally.  There are also a couple of special Wednesday night dinners at the Church this summer and we will attend those.  We will also get some of the prepared dinners at Costco and combine them with a salad and have a good meal.  You wouldn't recognize the Taco Pie as like eating tacos as the shells are used in a layered mixture of hamburger, that has been seasoned and friend with onion and seasoned with taco seasoning and cheddar cheese.  It is fixed in a round dish and there is nothing crisp about it.  When I eat at a Mexican restaurant I always order the tacos on the soft shells as I also don't like to bite into them and have them break apart.  I found out that the IHOP change of local to IHOB is for the B to stand for burgers.  They apparently have added several new burgers on the menu.  Scott said he ate their this week and had one of them and they came out of the kitchen looking just like the picture on the menu.

Marilyne, sure hope you had successful in finding the sandals you liked.

Jean, according to Pat's sister Judy, she has had some hiccups in her recovery and is still in the hospital.  She posted some pictures of the family being with her for her birthday and sharing cake.  She also posted a couple of pictures of her laying in bed.  Apparently now they think that when she is discharged she will go home rather than into rehab.

deAngel, I sure hope your blood test showed you still didn't need the shot.  I see Mary Ann has shared the link to get to see the boats in Duluth.  I can see you haven't spoiled Taffy.  :)

angelface555

My sister sent me this that explains it better that big business rules. From the news.

"Net neutrality

It's over folks. The repeal of net neutrality officially kicks in today. The FCC voted along party lines in December to repeal the Obama-era rules, which were intended to stop internet providers from blocking, speeding up or slowing down access to specific online services. A repeal means a provider can play favorites. For example, a provider like Comcast could potentially allow its own video content to load faster than competing content on a service like, say, Vimeo. Alternatively, it could force Vimeo to pay more to get its content into the Internet's fast lane. So will you notice any changes today? Probably not. Lots of litigation needs to work its way through the courts, and lawmakers are weighing in too, so it may be awhile before things settle down."

Marilyne

I did get some shoes yesterday, and I'm very happy with them . . . so far anyway.  First ever for me with athletic style walking shoes. (we still call them "tennis shoes" here, but people call them "sneakers" in other parts of the country.) These are New Balance, and they do look more subdued than most.  I will order some sandals online from Amazon.

Mary Ann - I looked at Hush Puppies, on both Amazon and Zappos, and they have a good selection.  If you can't find the style or size you like when you go to Rockford, you might take a look at those sites.  Free shipping and free return if they don't fit or you don't like them.

I didn't see any of the boats yesterday on the webcams. Never really got back to the computer.  My favorite of the cams, is the Bridge Cam.   I love to watch that amazing bridge go up, and then the boats going through, and then the lowering of the bridge again.  Today I'll be home most of the day, so I hope to see some activity . . . I haven't checked the boat schedule yet.

Last night we finished watching Gone With the Wind. I had recorded it off of TCM a couple of weeks ago, so we watched the first half Tuesday night, and the second half last night.  Of course I have seen it many times in the past, but I never tire of it. The movie will be 80 years old, next year!  Seems impossible.

On the net neutrality issue - maybe I'm naive, but I don't think it will be a major problem for any of us at this time, or in the near future.  Other changes, and events happening in our world are much more important, and more serious, and I choose to worry those things, rather than net neutrality.  Possibly/probably in the future it will become an issue, but it will be resolved, as those things always are.  I doubt that I will still be around, when that happens.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, there is a boat leaving Superior in an hour but there is no horn sound there.  It was to go out this morning at 9 am my time and it didn't go and in the blink of an eye the time for departure was changed to 12 noon (CDT) or 1 pm my time.  I'll believe it when I see it.  I got to the Soo site in time to see a boat go through but I could not read the name.

I may have Tom take me up the hill to a jeweler so I can replace the earring I lost.  I liked the size; it was a small ball that I could wear more than one day at a time (pierced ears).  The one I lost was of a pair that were 46 years old.  Nothing fancy, just small balls.

With Net Neutrality, I fear for sites like this one; we may be without a home again.  I do feel there is nothing I can do about it and I'll just have more time to do nothing???

Mary Ann

FlaJean

We had a storm during the night.  One thunder clap was so loud I nearly jumped out of bed.  We started off with some sun this morning but now it is raining.  Another set of Bluebirds have been building their nest in the other birdhouse.  I saw Mr. Bluebird dive at a squirrel who got too close to the houses while ago.  I don’t know if any eggs have been laid yet or if they are still building the nest.

Marilyne, my husband always buys New Balance but I usually get Reebok’s.  However, I’ve been wearing mostly Skechers.  I haven’t worn sandals in years.  This Florida climate in northwest Florida is so different than Ocala.  We got more sun and less rainin Ocala, but we did have times of drought there and lots of sinkholes.  Here we have more rain but no sinkhole problem which is good.  It has taken me longer to adjust than Larry.  I miss going to lunch with several friends but I really enjoy being close to our youngest daughter.

Marilyne

I clicked on the Bridge Cam just now, and it was up, so I knew something was coming.  Turned out to be one of those high masted sailboats.  According to the Boat Schedule, The American Century, will be arriving at 4:40, so I'll start watching at around 2:30, PDT.  Of course I know that they do not necessarily arrive or leave according to schedule, so I won't hold my breath.

FlaJean - interesting that your weather in Northwest Fla, is so different from what it was in Ocala.  That's the way it is here in California too . . . the Southern part of the state has an entirely different climate from the North.  Those sinkholes sound really scary.  From what I have seen on the news, with sinkholes swallowing cars and houses, I think I prefer our earthquakes! ha ha. I haven't worn my new shoes yet, but I'm hoping they will feel as good outside the store, as they did inside the store.

Mary Ann - I missed the boat from the Superior, this morning, so hope I remember to watch for The American Century. It's one of the long ones - 1,000 feet.  I saw your message in Soda Shoppe, that you let Kendrick outside, and forgot about him.  I hope he was there waiting for you when you opened the door?

Gloria de - EEK, a mouse! Winnie only presented me with one mouse, over the years.  However, he caught quite a few gophers and moles outside in the back yard. He would catch them, and bring them right to the sliding glass kitchen door and leave them.  Then he'd sit back and wait for me to open the door.  It always startled me of course, and I would quickly shut the door, and figure out what to do, if I happened to be alone.  Much easier if AJ was home to deal with it.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, Kendrick hasn't come home yet and I don't expect him until dark.  Tom will have to open his bedroom window and Kendrick will go to it and let Tom know he's home and ready to come inside.  He usually is pretty good about staying in the area and I shouldn't worry, but I do because you never know what other animals are around.

I had to turn on the air a while ago but the outside temp has gone down a bit so I turned off the a/c and I'm very comfortable.

The ship to leave from Superior didn't leave  until afternoon.  I saw the one come in and I just checked the schedule and there's nothing until tomorrow.

Mary Ann

Hi Everyone.  Another beautiful and sunny morning.  We are expecting to get into the low 90's this afternoon.  Yesterday we had a heat index of 105.  The housekeeper is due here this morning.  After she arrives we will head to Costco for a few items.  Pat is up and dressed and wants to go with me today.  I just hope the riding carts are available.

Here is the latest on Pat from her sister Judy: "Well Pat my dear sister is home from hospital at last.  She went home with a bad case of pink eye, however she has medication for that and will be home free soon.  Now for physio to help her get mobile!"

Patricia, thanks for sharing the info on the Net Neutrality situation.

Marilyne, nice to see your shoe shopping went well and you now have some new shoes.  I haven't worn tennis shoes (what I also call them) for many years and don't expect to in the future.  We have the DVD's of Gone with the Wind but no longer have a DVD player hooked.  That is one long movie but a very good one.  Are you in favor of California splitting into three separate States?  There would be a long way to go to accomplish such a thing.  Did you thank Winnie for her gifts when she presented the gophers and moles at your kitchen door?

Mary Ann, it sounds like you had your money's worth from your earring that you lost.  I hope you found something you like.  Pat has never had pierced ears and fortunately has a good selection of the old style earrings as they seem to be hard to find in the stores. I don't think Net Neutrality would have any impact on sites like ours.  It would likely impact things like the streaming videos of Netflix and perhaps cost the TV stations more to broadcast their programs.

Jean, those sudden thunder claps can really startle one especially if there has been no buildup of thunder as it appears.  I expect you were happy to get the rain.  I turned my sprinklers on after dark last night as it has been so hot here the last few days and we have missed most of the rain in our area.  Do you have the bluebird houses set where you can see them from your windows?  Like you we miss our friends that we had made in the 20+ years we lived in our last home but really appreciate being close to our son and granddaughter, although she doesns't spend much time with us.

Mary Ann

#8967
Larry, I haven't replaced the earrings yet, but when I do, I will get a duplicate of the one I lost.  It is of a size I can wear all of the time, although I would change occasionally, and I can wear that size when I sleep.  I still have two or three pair of the old style, but I gave most of what I had to Dot who still wears the clip-on type.  She loses one of them occasionally too.

Kendrick came back home about 4:30 this morning.  I had gotten up at 3:30 to go to the bathroom and checked to see if he was around, but he wasn't.  I had not gotten to sleep yet when I heard a sound like a cat screeching.  I checked by Tom's window because that is where he's gone previously.  No cat but I decided to check the front door and there he was, waiting to come back in.  He visited me in bed a couple of short times, then left and did not return until 8:30.  I was thinking of getting up about that time, so let him stay a few minutes.  He is now comfortably sleeping on a towel on the davenport.

Tom has been to his Bible study and is back working now.  The trash and recycle are out and Friday is about to begin.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - So glad to hear that Kendrick is back home again!  I woke up during the night, and was thinking about him, and hoping he was back.  That was between 1:00 and 2:00 here,  so was just about the time that he arrived home at 4:30.

Larry - I'll return later to tell you what I think of California being divided into three separate states.  As you know, it will be on the ballot in November.  I haven't made the coffee yet, so first things first! LOL

Mary Ann

Marilyn - mental telepathy!

I was wondering, too, how you felt about splitting the state into three parts.  Consider the logistics.

We're going to lunch today to a deli in Cannonsburg (NE of here).  Dot is going with us.
