Marilyne

Joan - I agree with you and with Larry.

MarsGal - What a wonderful day you had at the zoo and aquarium with your sister!  The aquarium sounds much like the one in Monterey.  Lots of thing to touch and see up close.  I especially like the turtles, but the huge fish tank that goes from floor to ceiling, (two story!) is mesmerizing!  I'd love to go to the zoo, but it would have to have lots of benches to sit on!  I can walk reasonably well, but standing in one place for any length of time is hard for me.

This morning I went to the lab for the blood draw.  It was a big mistake for me to wait until Saturday, and I should have known better.  All of the working people have to go on Saturday, so when I got there at 8:00, there was already a line of NINE people ahead of me, and people arriving that stacked up behind me.  When we finally got in, I had to sign in on a computer, instead of going to the window, as before.  What a hassle, it was, because I cannot see well, and had to have someone help me sign in!  ::)  Altogether, I was there for over an hour, mostly standing in lines. I have to admit, that I am exhausted, and hope that I don't have to go through it again, ever!  I was pretty shakey driving home, and of course I headed straight for the coffee pot!  (I was thinking of stopping at Starbuck's, but I couldn't face another line!)

Sandy, I like your approach to cataract surgery - slow, day by day.  When I had my surgery in 1999, I was not on blood thinner, although I did have skin cancer surgery in 2016 and the blood thinner caused no problem.  However, the dermatologist and the cardiologist were in contact with each other prior to the surgery.  I also had a tooth taken out with no complications, but again, the dentist was in contact with the cardiologist.  From what you've written, I think your doctors are in touch with each other and that is what matters.  So, keep on keeping on!

I like your weather and ours is similar.  I think I'd like the sun shining, but we do need rain and there is none in the forecast, also no sun!

A Kendrick tale - I was putting away laundry and nosy came to see what was going on.  He sat on his haunches trying to see what was in the top big drawer and he didn't reach that far.  I went to the next drawer and he couldn't see in there either.  So I pulled out the next drawer down.  By that time he was tired of the whole thing and left.  I called to Kendrick to come back and he finally did, looked in the drawer and got in.  I went for my camera but by the time I got back, he had left.  It would have been a good picture, but not to be.

Marilyn, one year when I was in Minneapolis with friends, we went to the Mall of America.  There is one area where you walk through a glass enclosure and there are all sorts of fish and water-life there.  It is eerie when a shark or other large fish swims over you as you are in a tunnel.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

I like your Kendrick Tale, Mary Ann. Lucy and Oscar have outgrown that some, but Shan is only just getting started. I can't move without him chasing after me or getting underfoot or stretching and jumping to see what is what.

Yesterday's trip was the first time Shan was on his own with the other two for a whole day. He was right at the door when I got in and starting zooming around and doing a fair impression of a ping pong ball ricocheting about. Once, he discovered I was awake this morning he started it up again until he settled down for breakfast. I think he was happy to see me. He did look at me a bit askance when I left this morning to feed George's cats.

Marilyne, the lab I use now has a tablet sized thing on the wall that I have to sign in with. I usually screw it up, so the phlebotomist/receptionist has to fix it at her end. I guess I just go in too early form most people. There has only been one person there. I think someone comes in a little later when it gets busier, though.

Good evening, Just sent Keith to get some KFC for supper, I have had company off and on all day

MARY ANN, Kendrick sounds like Taffy, very  mosey. If I open the closet or a draw, she has to check it out

Larry, I do not know if I wrote this nor not, but I did check out NYC Harbor cam, and followed a cruise ship out to the  Verrazano-Narrows bridge It was the 7 Seas, Regent Very interesting to see the back ground

I'm feeling worn out already and it is only 8am. I've been up since 4:30am, the norm, but didn't sleep well last night.

Last night, around 9pm, I noticed Lucy limping and not wanting to put much weight on one leg. I took her up to the emergency vet early this morning and was back by 7am. She is walking better, but still favors the leg, and she hasn't eaten much since yesterday afternoon. I thought she sprained her leg or foot, but it turns out to be her shoulder that is sore. So now I must see that she gets two non-steroidal pills once a day for the next three days. I'm going to call my regular vet on Monday to make a follow up appointment. Also, the emergency vet said Lucy had lost weight since she was there a few years ago. I think that must be relatively recent because I began noticing her face has been looking leaner lately. Another thing I need to check on with my regular vet. I didn't opt for x-rays yet because she improved overnight. I'll see how she does on the pills first.

This morning it was a bit foggy/hazy when I left the house. Now the sun is out and it is 73o. I really like nights just a little cooler than this. It's only 8:15am. I'll be out again in about an hour to feed and check on George's cats.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  We are headed to a 99 degree day with an even higher heat index.  The first thing I did this morning after getting dressed for Church was to make a quick trip to Walmart for a few items we were out of.  I am going to go to Sunday School and Church.  Yesterday Pat said she would like to go to Church today but hasn't made a final decision yet. I told her that I will go through a drive thru to pick up something for our lunch so I didn't to to make another trip in the heat as getting in the car after church will be enough.  This is going to be plenty for today.  I still have to make her breakfast and empty the dish washer but she said she wasn't in a hurry for her breakfast and that she wanted me to sit down and eat my breakfast and rest a little bit.

MarsGal, glad you and your sister enjoyed your trip on Friday.  I have never been a fan of the reptile cages but have enjoyed seeing the birds.  Sorry to read that Lucy required a trip to the emergency vet and hope her limp goes away soon.  Feeding pills to a cat isn't a fun thing to do usually.

Sandy, that was good news and I am sure if I had the same eye and other problems you have and are experiencing I would make the same decision you did about delaying as long as possible.

deAngel, Pat prefers Bojangles chicken to that of KFC so we haven't had any of that for a long time.  I guess there are many cams one can watch.  I forgot to watch the ones I have bookmarked yesterday.

Marilyne, it sounds like Saturday wasn't the day to go to the lab.  Standing in line is very tiring.  The lab we used to go to at Kaiser had us take a number when we arrived and then sit down and wait for our number to be called.  That made waiting more acceptable.

Mary Ann, that Mall of America sounds like quite a place.  I don't even like to go to a big store anymore much less a mall.

Larry, I don't know if this is true any more, but at one time the Mall of American was the largest mall in the US, maybe the world.  It is humongous.  I think it is on two floors, but there are elevators and/or escalators.  Restaurants galore - of all kinds.  The day we were there, it was very crowded and may have been a weekend.  I have a cousin living in Mps, so I made arrangements to meet her for lunch.  As it turned out her husband and daughter also showed up.  That cousin now is the only cousin I have left of an original six.

Dot and I did our usual, having tuna melt and heath bar pie - Yum!

MarsGal, I'd have a hard time getting Kendrick to a vet because I have no carrying case for him.  I don't know if we even have an emergency vet service.  We do have a vet service near here.  I hope Lucy improves.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

MarsGal - sorry that Lucy is having some health issues. Most of my cats have had temporary limping problems over the years, probably caused by jumping from something that was a little too high.  I recall one vet taking an X-ray to make sure that the leg was not broken.  It wasn't, and he reassured me, saying that it was most likely a sore foot or sprain that would heal in time, which it always did.  If Lucy is also losing weight, then it could point to something else that would need to be treated.

Mary Ann - Cat carriers are very heavy, and once the cat is inside, they become impossible to carry, unless you are extremely strong.  You can buy light weight corrugated cardboard carriers at pet stores like Petco.  They are reasonably priced, easy to put together, and can be used a number of times.
Last night I happened to click on the Bridge cam, and saw that the bridge was all the way up, and I could see a very large boat in the canal - all ready to pass under.  It was quite large and long, and very brightly lighted.  It was close to 8:30 here, so would have been 10:30 in Duluth.  Afterward I looked at the schedule, but there was nothing listed?  The schedule seems to be programmed to delete a ship, as soon as it has arrived or departed?

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I've noticed too that once the ship is in or out, it is deleted from the schedule.  A ship was scheduled to leave this morning at 9:45 and I watched it go toward the bridge, but Dot picks me up for church about 9:35 or 9:40 so I had to close the computer and did not see the ship leave.  I haven't looked at the schedule since got back.  I guess that will be next on my agenda.  I am watching golf while I'm typing.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

Lucy is still limping, but able to navigate the stairs. She managed to get up on my bed which is a bit high, so when it was time to get up, I put her on the floor so she wouldn't put too much pressure on the leg when jumping down. Yesterday she wouldn't eat but a mouthful of her wet food, which had the pills in it, so it went into the fridge til this morning. I put the food up in the hall for her and blocked the downstairs doors so the guys couldn't get upstairs. After a while I checked, and saw she had eaten all of it. The problem, it turns out, is not leg or paw, but the shoulder. I am going to make an appointment for later this week at my regular vet for a follow up even if she improves in the meantime.

I was a bit stressed over the whole thing so I didn't do much of anything yesterday except nap, read, and keep an eye on where Lucy migrated to throughout the day.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  We are headed for another very hot day.  Last night a heavy thunderstorm hit us and we got about an inch of much needed rain.  I had just started by sprinkler system when the rain started so went into the garage and turned the sprinklers off.  We may see similar storms develop in the next day or so.  It rained for about two hours and the lightning and thunder continued through all that time.  I have nothing planned for today so will just take things easy as am feeling the results of a pretty busy weekend, especially yesterday morning.

Sandy, the birds are fun to watch in the next but sitting on a branch I found pretty uninteresting.  I like the cam with the cats as they are so active.

Mary Ann, I did a quick search and found that the Mall of the Americas is the biggest one currently in the USA but that one has been announced to be built in Florida in the Miami-Dade county that will be the largest by quite a bit.  However, there are currently a number of malls bigger in other places in the world, especially China.  I know I would love Heath Bar Pie.  I almost always order the Heath Blizzard at Dairy Queen and it has been my favorite for years. That turned out to be an interesting golf match yesterday afternoon.  I was shocked when I tuned in around 4 pm to see that Bubba Watson was tied for the lead and then ultimately won it.  He had a great day yesterday. Did you hear him interviewed yesterday when he said he was happy to win so the baby could have diapers?  I had to chuckle at that since he probably could buy tons of diapers with all the tournament wins he has had.

MarsGal, your comment about how heavy a cat carrier could be with the cat in it brought back memories and I was much stronger back when we had the cat. I think our cat weighed 13 or 14 pounds and he sure didn't like the carrier.  When I was checking out ramps to use to get a rollator into the car I saw they have all kinds of pet ramps and steps to help cats and dogs get onto a bed or something high.  I hope Lucy improves quickly.

Good morning from a beautiful day in the Interior! No new fires or incoming smoke, eighty degrees and blue skies! I did have an exasperating night as some idiot at some sporting field needed to have a large and powerful microphone to announce his sport's progress. I wonder if having a strong microphone equates to having a large sword?

Thankfully at midnight, it turned off, and for the next hour, you heard the cars leaving. I heard someone comment in the yard below that it sounded to them like a softball game. Since this is the second Sunday in a row, I may have to dig out my orange earplugs.

Farrah has been purring loudly at petting and rubbing down sessions which is new for her. I'm assuming that before it was more silent and an inadvertent happening where now it seems more intentional. She will be six in September and while she still doesn't mark me or furniture, has never meowed, and has her own language, she no longer starts at loud sounds or sudden movement. She feels safe finally. Her carrier is a soft mesh material which is nice as she is not a light cat.

MarsGal, I'm glad you're helping Lucy! After watching these kitten cams, I see a lot of what they call soft tissue injuries, and they usually treat with a steroid or antibiotic from their vet for a week while watching for any other signs.

I was wrong on the snip date as it is tomorrow and not the twenty-third and then adoption is set for the thirtieth. Then they will show highlights of various litters until a new pregnant cat or group of kittens is found. He has what is called a kitten broker who can call at any time, day or night when a new group of feral, surrendered or rescued group arrives needing safety and socialization.

John has said that Gamora, the mother is only estimated to be a year old and apparently she is an experienced mother. She also will be doubly glad for tomorrow as she has recently "been having unpure thoughts" as Foster Dad John puts it.

Marilyne, we do have lots of tourists for the Summer Solstice and many Asian ones for the Winter Solstice. Both in their ways are busy times. We have a group of student Serbians working at a nearby sporting goods store, and they have been teaching their version of football in a vacant lot to local youths which is seemingly enjoyable to both groups.

While my entire family enjoyed playing and watching golf, I never enjoyed it or other sports unless I could take some good action photos. Or I had friends involved in the game. I cannot take an unblurred photo with my phone as my hands shake too much but my SLR has an antishake feature, so I'm going back to using that.

I hope everyone is having a good day and lovely sunshine with not too hot and not too cold!

Mary Ann

Patricia, yesterday the bell went off for me to get Kendrick from the deck, but I was doing something that needed attention and after a few minutes, I forgot he was on the deck (fortunately not loose in front of the condo).  I don't know how long it was before I remembered him and went to the slider screen which was open.  He did meow quite loudly (for him) to let me know he wanted to come in.  Ordinarily, I do not hear him make any sounds.  I do have to mention my hearing is not what it should be and I usually am not wearing my "ears" around here.

I watch the kittens for a few minutes and it is obvious kittens need other kittens to play with.  I think before he came here that Kendrick did have other kittens and/or dogs for company, but I doubt he knows what a dog is.  He does jump on my bed both night and morning to get his rubdown and I can hear his purring, a low sound.

It's good to see your posts.

Mary Ann

angelface555

Thanks, MaryAnn.  They will often expect you to have other cats or to adopt pairs as kittens and cats are social animals in the way that other big cats, horses or walruses are. In the wild, there is usually one strong male and a group of females and kittens. The younger males usually leave about a year old to form groups with other males until they are old enough to wander far enough to challenge another male for his group.

Fortunately, the three males in this litter will not need to do that to find a loving home. If a pair of kittens in a litter or other cats become bonded, they will have to be adopted together. However, they say that the three males and two females play well with all and on their own. And Gamora will probably enjoy the company of other adults finally as they say that even guesstimated at about a year old, that this isn't her first litter.

Kendrick sounds as if he has bonded with you and enjoys his time spent with you.

Marilyne

Good morning everyone.  The wind is howling again this morning, (two days in a row), and is coming from the East.  High Eastern wind, plus low humidity, always means wildfire danger.  It used to be that the East wind was rare - usually only in the Fall - but now the danger seems to be year around.  We have some fires already out of control here in Northern Cal.

Patricia - I've also enjoyed watching the cat videos you posted.  I hope that they all get adopted by loving families, when the time comes.  I usually don't mind the noise and music from neighborhood activities or parties.  Unfortunately, I don't remember the last time I heard so much as a peep from any of my neighbors.  They are all from foreign countries, and keep very much to themselves.  I always wave if I'm out in front, or in my car, and see someone drive by or in their yard.  They either look away, or look startled.  There is one Persian woman (Iranian) who always smiles and waves back, but she's the only one.

Mary Ann - I can relate to you not hearing Kendrick meowing outside the screen door.  My hearing is so poor now, that I can barely hear anything or anybody.  Fortunately, my husband, son and daughter Sandy, all have loud voices, so I have no problem hearing them.  Older daughter, dil and grandchildren have soft voices, and I have to keep saying "Excuse me"?, "What"?, "Sorry, I'm having trouble hearing you", whenever I'm around them. Being as I also have problems with my vocal cords, and my eyes, I'm not the world's greatest conversationalist! :-[

Mary Ann

Marilyn, even at my age, I do not have a soft voice.  I've been asked if I really am my age because of it.  Dot has a soft voice and does not raise her voice when talking to me and it is difficult, whether or not I'm wearing my "ears", which I forgot to put in yesterday before church.  It wasn't easy to hear the minister, but it was difficult to hear Dot.  I think she could raise her voice a bit, but she doesn't and sometimes she asks a question and I don't realize it.  I don't answer and I hear a big silence so finally I'll say "what did you say?".

Patricia, I agree that Kendrick and I have bonded.  When I'm not here, such as in Indps, he is lost and he often meows at Tom as if to ask where I am.  He's a good boy and I'd miss him at first if he went to live with someone else, but he really should be with children; he's only five years old.  But I think it's too late for him to be with children, since he hasn't had the experience.  Often in the middle of the night when I get up, I realize there is a cat on the bed beside me.  If I cough, he's gone in a second but he comes back in about 10-15 minutes, however, he doesn't stay the night with me.

I've been watching for boats that are scheduled, but don't.  They all seem to be waiting for another boat to do something.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

I have to mention the orange thing the cats in the video have to play with.  I bought one for Kendrick.  It is all one piece so the balls don't come out of the grooves.  He was not interested and because it seemed so solid and one piece, I thought the twins would like it.  It is constructed so neither cat nor girls could get it apart.  I found out it is not a good toy for two toddlers playing together.  One girl would take hold of the toy and swing it around.  If the other girl would be in the way, it would be disastrous.  I have no idea where it is now, but it was not in sight when I last was with that family.  And I don't mind.  For one it would be OK, for two - NO!

MaryAnn, I also purchased that orange toy that Farrah ignores. I believe I am going to donate all the unused toys, catbed and canned food to Pet Pride.

You might like these two of the kittens.

Patricia and Mary Ann, taffy is not interested in toys, nor catnip.  But give her a piec of jewelry, she will get off the bathroom counter and she is happy. My good gold chain has teeth marks. Now She does love to play with a straight pipe cleaner, once it gets bent she does not look at it I think I have a strange cat

Gloria, Farrah is also not interested in toys or catnip. I bought her a nice bed, and she prefers a towel on the floor or a cardboard box. She's not interested in jewelry, but she has a thing about straws.

It is going to be another beautiful day today. Right now it is 530F. A little later I am going out to mow the front weed patch. We are supposed to get heat and humidity back  tomorrow with some rain possible. After that the weatherman says we are getting our first heat wave of the summer with days over 90o. Ugh!

Lucy, I am happy to report, is doing better. She is still limping, but she is not being unusually unsociable and she is eating her wet food again. She is taking her pills, crushed, in the wet food very well indeed.

I think the most favorite toy Shan plays with are the wadded up tea bag envelopes from the Lipton tea. He batts them about and carries them around everywhere. His favorite is to batt them under or behind something so that it makes it a challenge for him to retrieve them. Periodically, I have to run the yardstick under the oven and the kitchen furniture to retrieve them all. It isn't long until they are batted back under. I routinely have to remove them from their water dish too. I even found one on my bed once.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone on a day that starts at 80 degrees and headed to the mid-90's.  Once again last night we had popup storms around the area.  We got maybe a quarter of an inch of rain as the storm didn't stay around very long.  I guess this is the time of the year for these storms.

Yesterday was really at down day and hoping to have more energy today.  I hate to admit it but I became a bit grouchy and that is not me.  I went to bed at 8 pm last night and had a good nights sleep.  I have the kitchen chores done except to fix Pat's breakfast when she arises.  Today is the run-off day for the Primary elections.  I hope to go vote as the polling place isn't very far from me at an elementary school.  The main race is the governor's race.  We had a good dinner last night as Pat had put together a meat loaf and we had some packaged steamer potatoes and some steamer white sweet corn and that made a good meal.  We will be using more of the frozen vegetables that come in the steamer bags as it made a quick and easy dish that is ready in the microwave in a few minutes.  Tonight may well be a TV dinner night as we have a couple in the freezer or a salad night.  The yard people are here bright and early this morning.  I just went out and told the young man doing the edging to skip our backyard this week.

Patricia, nice to read you are having some beautiful summer days up your way.  Too bad about the loud noise that went on to midnight.  I have never understood why people wants amplifiers that are so loud it hurts your ears.  There is going to be a lot of ruined hearing in the years ahead.  It sounds like Farrah's trust just continues to built the more time she spends with you. If I knew I have forgotten that cat have litters at such a young age. Interesting information on the socialization and life habits of cats.   I find that after I watch the golf for awhile, or any of the other sports, I begin to recognize some of the players and it makes the games more interesting.

Mary Ann, your mentioning not "wearing your ears" sounds like my best friend that I talk with every week on Facetime.  We will be talking and he indicates the sounds isn't loud enough and then realizes he doesn't have his hearing aids on or one of them has a run down battery.  I feel so fortunate to have good hearing and good sight.  Pat's hearing is failing and I find she speaks softer than she used to.  I don't think it is my hearing but most often have to ask her to repeat what she has said.

deAngel, we still have several things that our cat left his teeth marks in.  We had those aluminum type Venetian blinds in our other house and he had put his teeth into the lower slats on almost all of them as our windows were low to the ground.  I guess it doesn't take a lot to entertain a cat.

MarsGal, nice to read that Lucy is improving and the medication must be helping.  It doesn't take a lot to entertain a cat as the tea bags for Shan shows.

Marilyne, I worked hard to send you that wind from the East!  :)  Sorry to read the wildfire dangers are so increased.  It seems like every night there are stories on the news about the fires in the West.  So far I haven't read about any here in the East.  We did have three house fires here in North Augusta and Augusta a couple of nights ago from the severe lightning that we had for a two hour period.

Mary Ann

Larry, I knew my hearing was going when I would be less than 10 feet from the TV and the sound was garbled.  However, it took me a long time before I did anything about it.  I think I'm on my third set of aids and they last about three years.  I think I'm due this year and I may try a different place.

Kendrick didn't go after the lower part of my former metal Venetian blinds (replaced them with honeycomb blinds) but he did a job on the chain on my vertical louvered blinds.  I had Annie take the chains and weights out of those blinds because they were a mess, some weights in, some out, and that caused a vane or two to fall out.  Now the vanes just hang naturally and Kendrick lies at the slider door and looks out among the vanes.

We are around 70 degrees now and probably will be in the mid 80s, comfortable weather to me.  Later today we may have rain, but now it is on the Illinois side of Lake Michigan.  I notice the pier workers are at it at Grand Haven.

A boat just left Duluth for parts unknown.  I do have a map that shows the boats closer to the Soo and the destinations of the boats are shown, some places I've never heard of.

Patricia, it is fun watching the kittens play in those videos.  What energy!!!  I see "mother" gets into the act sometimes.

The only cat toy that interests Kendrick is the one where a fur tail is under some fabric and I can turn on the toy so the tail moves.  Even then, he figures he isn't going to get the tail and he loses interest.  I don't give it to him often, so each time he sees it, he's gung ho until reality sets in.

I'm glad Lucy seems better, MarsGal.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Good morning Mary Ann, Larry, and MarsGal - I woke up this morning at 4:00!  I hate that . . .  but as I've said before, I'm a light sleeper, and once I wake up I rarely go back to sleep.  I finally got up at 5:00, and cleaned up the kitchen from last night, and did a load of wash.   It looks like it will be a sunny but cool day, in the 70's.  The latest wildfire is still raging out of control in Lake County, which is a couple of hundred miles North of here.  The wind must have shifted because we aren't getting any smoke. (yet)

Number one thing to do today, is to make an appointment at the DMV, to renew my drivers license.  It's due to expire in August, and it will nag at me and worry me, until I get it taken care of.  fortunately I don't have to take a driving test . . . only the written test and the eye test.  I'm not worried about anything, except for the long wait at the DMV - even when you have an appointment.  There are so many people here now, that it sometimes takes many hours of waiting, before they call your number.  That's the hard part for me.

Glad all the cats are doing well. I miss not having a cat to fuss over and take care of, so I really enjoy hearing about Kendrick, Farrah, Shan, Lucy, Oscar, and Taffy. :)

Marilyn, it's interesting how states handle things differently.  The last time I renewed my license I was able to do it by e-mail and I'm using it now (as ID if necessary).  Our licenses are good for four years.  When I want to renew it next, I will go to the SOS office building near here, tell the receptionist what I want and she/he will tell me to go to an open area and take a number.  When my number is called, I will tell the clerk what I want to do and I will get a paper to fill out.  When filled out, I will return to the counter and the paper will go to Lansing.  Next time I will get an ID card but I'll use my license for ID until the regular ID card comes.  We don't have to have an appointment.  Our licenses expire on our birthday.  We get notifications by mail about two months prior to the due date.

I never went with him, but Jim in Indps had to go to their DMV at at certain time of the year indicated by the initial of his last name.  Birth date has nothing to do with it.

I'm sure other states have systems different than your, my and Indiana.

Hmm, 11:30 and I'd better get dressed.

Good Tuesday morning.   I have not been on the computer for a few days, so, I am just checking in.  I did not go back and read the last couple pages.

I wasn't feeling well as I had still been fighting a UTI.  I was really sick on Saturday and decided to stop the medicine and  that ,evidently , was what was making me sick.  I felt a  whole lot better on Sunday, and now feel pretty much back to my "old self." I did talk to someone at the doctor's office and was told as long as  I was feeling better, it was ok. I will have to keep a note of what that antibiotic was, as I sure don't want it anymore.

I have to get myself in gear now, as I didn't get a whole lot done over the past few days.  Chores are starting to get out of hand.  A lot of laundry is calling my name.  LOL

I hope everyone has been doing well.  Today is a beautiful sunny day with the temperatures in the low 80's.  Showers predicted for Wed. and Thurs. and then a nice, clear, rain-free week ed is in store.  We haven't had a nice week end for almost a month, and lots of activities are planned, especially with the upcoming 4th of July holiday.   Makes things a little more different when the holiday is on a week day.  Not sure what our family will plan on doing.

We usually like to have steamed crabs over the 4th, but not sure if that will happen on Sunday or wait until the actual holiday.  Most the ones who work don't like to have to get back to work the next day after celebrating on a week day.  So, will have to check to see what they are planning.

Since I didn't go back to read the past couple day's messages, I do hope that everyone is doing well with no big major problems.

Have a wonderful day and I  will try to check  in soon again.

Good morning from another sunny day in the Interior! Farrah has scoured the ring for her treats and eaten her breakfast, so we're good to go.

Larry, male cats become mature at five months and females soon after. So kittens are in issue in feral colonies as Gamora was. They are due to be sniped today, but it might be held back as Gamora is still in the midst of having "impure thoughts."

I have a state ID, and here your driver's license or state ID lasts for five years and expires on your birthday. At the DMV everyone gets a number and sits for hours, depending on how late you left it. It is a humongous room with counters lining the walls and monitors showing the numbers up and to which alphabetized counter person you are sent to. At the end is the photographer next to the door. I wish they would separate state versus drivers or first licenses versus those taking the tests, but they do not.

We are still having fires in the central portion of the Interior but luckily none closer to us. We are in the midst of a substantial arboreal forest that stretches thousands of miles, so the area is driven by a fire ecology. The village crews are often rated as "hotshots" and are usually sent outside to other states or sometimes countries and for many on subsistence, it is essential income.

July is a big month here as along with the fourth of July; we have a week of Golden Days which celebrates the founding of Fairbanks as a gold camp and trading post. There are still private and commercial gold mines operating in the area. Unfortunately, then comes August which is an expected cooler and rainy month. The last four summers have been cooler than what we were used to.

The vet approved Mama Gamora for snips even in the middle of her heat cycle so off they went. The kittens will be back around five thirty Washington state time and probably the sign will come up for folks to send in their adoption applications which must include a cover letter describing their home situation. If there is no cover letter describing people, specifically small children, and other pets, etc.; then your application is tossed. The adoption date is set for June thirtieth.

After that, it will be anytime from a week to three weeks until a new arrival. Once it was after four days for two orphaned litters due to fires. These five kittens and mother were surrendered and the kittens were born April fourteenth so they only knew that room.
