Larry, not really just do not have much of an appetite.  No great loss tho since I was overweight anyway.   Just plays havoc with my wardrobe tho..

Thought a little humor might be in order so wanted to share this very short video.

I've spent a lazy morning, more so than usual.  I looked at as many boats that went through the various places and I sat on my deck just lazing.  I know every area has its different cloud formation.  Shirley, who posts in Soda Shoppe, lives in Wichita KS and gets ferocious looking clouds, very angry.  Today we had a very blue sky with tremendous white, fluffy clouds.  I think by the time I get back out (soon) the clouds will be gone, but it was spectacular while it lasted.  I remember when we'd travel in northern Minnesota, we'd have similar skies, so it might be a northern US thing.  MN and MI have similar terrain.

I don't see why this should have anything to do with the lack of freighters going through the Soo, even being around Duluth, but Tom told me there are Port Huron to Mackinac Island sailboat races in Lake Huron this week.  The ships going east have to go down Lake Huron to Lake St Clair so would pass the racers.  Next week they will be doing the Chicago to Mackinac Island.  And in case anyone cares, Mackinac is pronounced Mackinaw.  It is an Indian name.

My two sections in front are watered (I get wet with one of them) and maybe I'll do it again after supper.  The one where the faucet is is in bad shape and that's where the myrtle is that I want to salvage.

Larry, I never heard of Tim Hankins but I enjoyed his piece.  But as usual, I wandered after listening to him.  I saw/heard Gracie Allen sing a Hawaiian song and saw Ann Miller (or Eleanor Powell?) dance around a pool, then saw Eleanor Powell dance around a lot of lariats (the timing that must have been necessary), then saw Eleanor Powell and George Murphy dance.  George Murphy was an actor, a singer, a dancer - and a US Senator from CA.

Now I'm going to make myself a sandwich for lunch.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann, The Soo Locks cam is back on, I see.  No boats there, so I think you're correct, that because of the sailboat races, they want to keep the lake clear and calm. . . free of waves that might influence the race.  Lots of activity at Duluth, however.  The American Integrity, came through about an hour ago. I haven't looked since, and have forgotten the schedule.  Did you sing Happy Birthday to Kendrick? As I mentioned in my last post - be sure to give him some special attention from me!

Joan - I hope your appetite returns soon.  Maybe treating yourself at a local restaurant would be a good change?  You don't want to lose weight too quickly!

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  This day is starting out sunny and will get to about 90 degrees this afternoon with only a small chance of rain.  Our main activity for today will be going to dinner tonight at the Church.  Scott is not going to be joining us as he has to work again as they have a couple of employees on vacation.  Yesterday for lunch we did go to IHOP for the pancakes and added some sausage to go with them.  They were good and certainly filling.

Joan, glad your weight loss isn't due to illness.  I think I often eat a lot more than I really need and often will just basically skip an evening meal if we have had a big lunch, such as yesterday when we went out to eat.  I did put a little something on my stomach because of the medication.

Mary Ann, we often see very beautiful clouds here in South Carolina.  We don't have the pollution we had in the Atlanta area.  I had never heard of Tim Hankins either and he must just be a local entertainer somewhere.  A person could easily stay entertained on YouTube as there is so much there.

Marilyne, hope you and your husband enjoy a nice day today.

Mary Ann

It was so strange yesterday that from about noon on, there were no new posts in any of the folders.  I began to wonder if something was happening to S&F.  I tried one last time before I went to bed and there were two posts so a big WHEW!

If you have some time to spare, go to the Two Harbor site - there is so much action there with locals loading and unloading their motorboats for fishing.  People will also walk their dogs or just plain walk.  And occasionally a freighter might come into the area.  Already this morning there were two motorboats that went out in the few minutes I watched.

Last night I sat on the deck for about a half hour.  I am enjoying the deck furniture.  I could have done this before because I have a wrought iron rocker on the deck and I have a cushion for it, and I did it occasionally, but I have gotten a lot more enjoyment from this new furniture.  The pads are waterproof and I leave them on now but I will bring the pads inside for the winter.  I want to get some covering for the framework for the winter.  I used to cover my old swing on the patio with trash bags - the large size - but they would not work with these.

It started out cool this morning and may not be as warm as we've had, but I think it still will be hot.  We will go to Dot's for supper tonight in honor of Tom's birthday; he's been celebrating - and will celebrate - all week.  Tomorrow we will be at Annie's for the area families, twin included.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann, yes, it was sort of depressing yesterday to see the dwindling number of posts in S&F.  I left one in this folder at around 11:00 AM, and there were no more in here for the remainder of the day!  The same in the other folders.  I hope things pick up today.

I was planning on going to the DMV today for my license renewal, but I may put it off for one more day.  I hardly slept at all last night, and feeling "poorly" this morning. (As my grandmother used to say).

wjoan

Marilyne, I do not have a driver's License but do have an ID card from DMV.  It expired in May.  I did try to renew it but only renew them for 6 years now and I refused to put out 56 bucks for a card that I will not need for 6 six years.

MarsGal

Hi, All! I've been checking the posts, but haven't had much to say the last few days.

I was out part of the day on Monday, and today I mowed the front lawn and the top of the back yard. Tomorrow I will do the backyard. The lawn really could have waited another few days, but George will be gone again later this week, which of course means I will be checking house and cats.

Temps today only to get in the low to mid 80s. There is a nice breeze going, too.

The new kitty toys came yesterday. There wasn't much interest in the treat dispenser ball, but I didn't put much in. I added more this morning and rolled it around again. I must not have had it filled enough the first time for the treats to come out often. I saw Shan with it a little later. But the real attraction is the red light pointer I got. This one is rechargeable with a USB connector, has both the red light and flashlight features, and it uses a switch rather than the tiny button I had to keep pressed down on the old one. The light is larger and stronger. It came in a pack of two. Along with the lights, they included three little mouse toys. I do not remember the product description listing them. Shan went nuts for both the toy and the light. The other two still seem to prefer watching Shan go crazy rather than joining in.

There were eight bears on the bear cam I watched for a little while last night. I am still checking out the Kilauea eruption footage and live cams, but only from a few sources now. Most seem to be repeats of the same thing different people put up. Mostly, I read and played some games on my Fire Tablet when not tormenting Shan with the red light.

Lindancer

Good afternoon. Sunny but more comfortable with low humidity

Joan, I always have a good breakfast, but do not care if Ieat again . Of course late at night I like my small dish of ice cream or a float

Marilyne I do not have a new license ID. I have just been using my old one.  the joke on that is the picture on it was taken 20 years ago  they never take a new photo

Mary Ann, I like to set on the back deck, and watch the birds and wild animals like rabbits, squirrels chip monk and of course Glenwood Willie our resident groundhog. In the evening I sometimes set on the front porch, the I gossip with the walkers

Larry, we are still waiting for IHOP ti=o open, the newspaper said May!??

MarsGal, Taffy like to play for a little while with the red light, but to buy catnip or toys is a wast of money.  She use to like grey mouse, not anymore

Good late morning from a cool but sunny Interior. We are supposed to be back in the eighties by Sunday, but I'm not so sure. The only toy Farrah likes for more than a few moments is bendable straws. I got that idea from one of the cat cams for the plastic ones. I used to use the laser, but she tends to watch it in my hand rather than the red dot. She does like toys when they're brought out occasionally and put back when she loses interest.

She is on a diet with lots of frustration and pleading by sitting or lying by the treat closet and showing interest if I venture near. And then there are guilt trips when she carries her dish to me sometimes when she feels a direct approach is needed. She also has gotten more verbal in case I've gotten slower and is momentarily excited if I come home with grocery bags.

Dora came by earlier to go out for breakfast, and we stopped to pick up a few things. Otherwise, it's been paperwork, dealing with appointments and working on my PSP this past week.

Patricia, as I wrote before Taffy like pipe cleaners when they are straight that is why we love our babies

Lindancer, I used to think all cats like catnip, but no more. Twerp (RIP) showed no interest. Of the three I have now, Oscar is the only one who likes it, but only if it is fresh from the garden. Shan showed a little intitial interest when I first introduced him to the dried stuff, but that was it, nothing since, not even Oscar's prized fresh stuff. Lucy totally ingnors both.

At the moment I have the air conditioners shut off and the windows open. That may change this afternoon when the heat builds up in the house. Oddly, this old house seems to heat up more after the sun goes down, gaining maybe three more degrees over the evening. Sometimes that makes for an uncomfortable evening. I suppose I could try the "fan only" setting on my air conditioners.

Not looking forward to it, but the backyard gets a little later this morning. The backyard is a slope and isn't as easy to mow as the front yard. Later on, I will make a trip up to the library to pick up another Roman history book.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  We are expecting to get to only 85 degrees this afternoon and a 50% chance of more rain.  Everything is very green here at the moment.  The only thing on my schedule for today is to pick up my friend and we will go to coffee for an hour.  Then I plan on a quiet day.  I was tried all day yesterday and today seems to be starting the same.  Late yesterday morning Scott came out for a little while as he had to work last night.  While he was here he got his mother's printer going again.

Pat and I went to the dinner at the Church last evening and had forgotten it started at 6 pm rather than 5:30 as usual.  One of the families that sit at our table had forgotten also so we had a nice change to just sit and visit.  We had a good meal and following that the 40 teens and adults that worked on the mission project here this week stood in front of the group and a member from each team discussed what they have and will continue to do to work on the four homes.  There was no charge for the dinner and the folks in attendance were asked to donate toward needs for the homes that the money United Way had provided didn't cover or couldn't be used for.  One of the needs was a window air conditioner.  They had already had donated a stove and four new mattresses.  They had a list of things for each house they would like to have and people could sign up to donate towels and other like items as several of the bathrooms were being worked on.  It was a very nice evening.

My new corkscrew came in the mail yesterday so I decided to open the bottle of wine and have a sherry size glass of it.  I found out I had no clue as to how to use the corkscrew.  However, I did a search and found a video of the exact item being demonstrated and it showed how the tool was to be used.  So I got the bottle open and had the wine.

I am soon going to run out of time this morning before I need to leave so will try to be briefer than usual and perhaps won't address each person who has left a posting since I was here yesterday.

Mary Ann, we found patio furniture covers at Walmart but sure Home Depot or Lowe's would also have them.

Joan, hard to understand why one would need to renew an ID card from the DMV other than to pay the State more money.  After all you are the same person after the expiration date of your card.

MarsGal, it sounds like you have a pretty good sized yard.  It sounds like Shan is bringing you a lot of joy.

deAngel, it took our IHOP sometime to get built but it is a very nice and pleasant place.

Mary Ann

MarsGal, Kendrick does like catnip.  It seems everything you buy for a cat comes with a package of catnip and I have the packages in a drawer of an end table.  I will look in that direction and Kendrick is sniffing around the drawer.  He doesn't get much, probably because I don't know how to use it for him.

Larry, I bought the furniture from Lowe's and I see by their website they have all sorts of covers for porch furniture, so I will decide what I want, or what will fit, and get some covers before fall.  It makes it so handy to look online and make a decision because Tom can go pick up the items.  Lowe's is only a mile plus from here.

We were going to Annie's tonight for another birthday celebration, but she already had tickets for some entertainer tonight and had forgotten about it.  Instead we are going to Jan's for supper and we're taking the dessert, which I think will be angel food cake with ice cream and strawberries.  I think I heard we will be going to Annie's next week Thursday.

This morning I looked in on the Soo and saw a ship I had not seen before.  It was the Anet from the Netherlands.  The Dutch boats have been very colorful, those I've seen, and this was no exception - it was a pretty blue.

Our lawn is being mowed, so it is Thursday.  That also means golf will be on this afternoon.  I don't know where they'll be playing, but it is a nice day here.

Mary Ann

Good morning from a usual Interior morning! Nothing unusual going on this morning so I'll just wish everyone a good day!

wjoan

Larry, I used it all the time  when I was going about the area.  Haven't been out of the bldg. since last Nov. so really have no need for it now.

Mary Ann

MarsGal, I needed a letter opener which I knew was in the drawer with the catnip.  When I opened the drawer, Kendrick almost went crazy.  I finally sprinkled some on a scratch pad but as soon as I got near the drawer, he was right back at it.  I had to laugh at him.

Good evening again a very pleasant day

Finally got to see the surgeon, I had some kind of and electronic board to fill out with all my information,  /Thought that was it, then they gave me a clip board with 5 pages to also fill out and half was the same questions ask by the electronic one.  Question about years ago I could not remember. The hematoma was bleeding quite heavily, it got to be as large was the lid of a large jar.  He lifted the skin and scrape it och! I have to go back Monday morning

Mary Ann, I know Tom will enjoy all the get to gethers

Hi Everyone. The morning starts out overcast with possible showers later today.  The lawn people started working in our neighborhood around 7 am this morning and mowed our backyard around 7:45.  They seem to be way behind this week as they are suppose to do the lawn on Tuesday and Wednesdays.  Not life's biggest problem. I didn't a  accomplish anything yesterday other than to do quite a bit of reading and listening to the audio book.  Other than going to coffee I stayed home all day and I think today I will probably stay home all day as still have no energy.  I do have the dishwasher emptied and dishes put away and things set out for Pat's breakfast when she gets up.  I did dig in the freezer and found the tilapia fillets that she plans to fix for our evening meal.

Mary Ann, we have had out outdoor furniture covers for many years and I should replace them as they have gotten stiff.  However, we no longer use the outdoor furniture and they still cover the chairs and table so probably won't do anything any time soon.  Nice to see that young people can also forget things.  Now Tom will be able to extend his birthday celebration another week.  :)  The golf is in England so I probably won't catch much of it as most of the rounds are over by 3 pm and probably all will be after the cut is made today to reduce the size of the field.

Patricia, I appreciate your good day wish as we can't get too many of those.  I hope you also had a good day yesterday and today will be the same.

Joan, that is sure a long time not to have left your building.  I am glad Candy is there so that if you have to leave your building for whatever perhaps she will accompany you.

deAngel, I often wonder if anyone ever looks at the paperwork we all seem to have to fill out now.  Apparently the person designing the electronic board didn't coordinate with the person who prepared the paper forms.  I fall to see the rationale of having to sign the HIPA form on each visit.  Surely that could be put on your file.  I have a feeling it is only to give us a false sense of security that our medical information is confidential.  I can't even imagine a hematoma that large.  That must be very painful.  I hope you have some pain medication for the weekend until you see the surgeon again.

wjoan

Larry, I love my apt. and really  have no desire to go out.  I go downstairs once a day to check my mail and am content with that.    I see neighbors and chat with them  but have no desire to go outside.

About 3:30 am I got up and heard it raining.  I think it quit about that time, but we are to get more.  Tom's high school is having a reunion for those who graduated in the '70s and it is to be outdoors at the Score, a sports bar near here.  The have a large inside area too, so people can move inside and I am sure there are those who would not come with the rain.  We have eaten at the Score for lunch several times.

I see I did not report since we were at Jan's last night.  We all gave her orders for Chinese take-out and her nephew picked it up.  Tom and I had Mongolian Beef and I ate much of the beef and will have sliced onions galore with what I brought home.  Both of Jan's parents are in the early stages of Alzheimer's but not so far along that they don't know us.  Her dad has help showering and Jan helps him brush his teeth.  He is quite frail, but he still has most of his mental faculties.  He sleeps a lot.  Jan's mother appears quite normal but her short term memory is bad.  The nephew lives in our area and helps Jan with his grandfather.  Jan's father is 87 and I think her mother is about the same.

This morning when i got up, I opened the doors and let Kendrick out on the front stoop while I heated water for my flavored coffee.  When I went to the door to see where he was, it was obvious he was puzzled.  He likes to eat quack grass, of which I have a good supply, but the grass was wet from our overnight rain and the cat did not want to walk on the wet grass.  He finally found some he could reach from the stoop, but when I opened the door, he came right in.  He does not like to get wet and it reminds me of the time I forgot he was outside and we had a downpour and he got very wet.  He may remember that too.

Gloria, I'm surprised at the treatment for your hematoma but I've never had one nor do I know of anyone who has, but they sure sound serious.  I hope treatment will let you get rid of yours.

Joan, while I do get outside, especially to get the mail (if I am the one to get it), or sit on the deck, on days when I do not get outside, I do not feel the need.  In winter I do not get the mail so I am inside, unless I have an appointment and Tom has to take me.  I realize I do get outside occasionally, but if I don't, I don't feel stir-crazy or have the need to get outside.

Mary Ann

Sasha

G’day. We’ve spent too much time at the vet, but little Java still has her spates of difficult breathing; I’ve started the brewers’ yeast for her: Amazon had to import it from England, lord knows why. We thought she might be allergic to the food, so we put down servings of three kinds, and she quickly chose the regular Purina Naturals. So there. Today is a perfect summer day, so I’ll celebrate it by grocery shopping. Hope you all find something to celebrate.
There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.

Mary Ann

Sasha, I'm glad to read that Java likes Purina cat food because that's what I buy for Kendrick.  I vary the varieties.  He's funny because he waits for me to put down the "new" food, which is what he's been eating all along.  When I put the dish down, he goes after it like he hasn't eaten in ages.  When I change his food and water, I'm only happy that he has eaten a fair amount of food and he's drank a good amount of water.  We do have the air on in the house, but it's still hot outside so he needs to be hydrated - and he seems to be.

Oh, I watched a ship go through the Soo this morning and it went so slow, the sailors could have gotten out and walked faster.

Mary Ann

wjoan

Mary Ann, the walker makes it difficult for me.  Since I have lost so much weight I can get around inside my apt. w/.o the walker.  If I need to go downstairs I take the walker.  Artificial knees started falling apart within my legs, kind of painful.

Marilyne

Good morning everyone.   I’m feeling great today, because I finally got my visit to the DMV over and done with, for another five years! We decided to drive to the Santa Cruz office, because the wait times were much shorter there

Funny, that I live about three blocks from the huge DMV office here, but it’s one of the busiest in the entire valley, with wait times up to six hours in some cases - much of the wait being outside the building, in a slow moving line.  Then, when you finally get inside, it’s a series of more lines to wait for the various steps in the procedure. Difficult for me to stand that long without ever sitting down!  Even the written test is now taken standing up in front of a computer!

Fortunately, you can go to any DMV office in California for a license renewal, so we decided to make the drive to Santa Cruz.  It was a good choice, because we were only there for three hours, and it was cool and foggy, and much less stressful than here.  Afterwards we ate at one of the nice seafood restaurants on the wharf.

As you can imagine, lots of amusing things happen, while waiting in all those lines!  You meet some interesting people, to say the least. One of the funny things happened to me . . . I found out that I no longer have a thumbprint! :yikes:  Gone, completely disappeared in the past five years!  Your thumbprint is required at three separate times in the process, including the written test itself, so it was a hassle!  Everyone was looking at my thumb! ha ha!  So I had to have special permission to get a license without a print, and I had to take the written test on paper, instead of the computer.

Joan, I am sure walking is difficult, especially with knees coming apart.  I am able to walk without a walker yet, but I am very deliberate in my walking.  When I get the mail, I walk slowly to the side of the road, look both ways to be sure no cars are coming, then walk across the road.  I cannot hurry.  I look both ways when I return and take it slow along the garage to the step up to the porch stoop.  I have more trouble going up that step than I do the rest of the walk but I make it.  I have a railing by the step, otherwise Tom would have to get the mail because I cannot get up a step without a railing.  Old age is not fun!

I let the cat out when I go for the mail or take out the trash and fortunately, he's being a good boy because when I open the door for him to come in, he does - right away.  At least for now!

Tom has left for lunch with someone and will be back later.  I may eat some of my Chinese that I brought back from Jan's yesterday.  I can eat Chinese but it is not my favorite.  This came in a container about 5x7 and I think the beef was on the bottom and on top was a lot of sliced onions.  To tell the truth, you could not see the beef for the onions.  I know I'll eat the beef and some of the onions.

Marilyn, I can't imagine waiting three hours, let alone six.  I think we can renew at other SOS offices, but we have one a couple of miles from here and every other time, we can renew by e-mail if we have had no traffic problems.  I was surprised in 2016 when they allowed me to renew by e-mail and you can be sure I took advantage of it.  our licenses are good for four years, renewable on our birthday.  In 2020 I probably will get a State ID since I don't drive.  I envy you being able to eat at a fresh seafood restaurant.

We were talking about people being so reluctant to give up their drivers licenses, and I agree with their feelings, but I like the way I gave up driving and it was my decision.  Tom was using my car because Annie had wrecked his.  I think I drove once toward the end and when time came to renew, I sold my car to a great-niece and Tom bought a used car that he is still driving.  It was a painless way to give up my license.  I did renew my license but when/if I drive it must be an extreme (!) emergency!

It is humid out but the sun is trying to shine.

Good afternoon, carbon copy of yesterday

Larry, the doctor said only to take tylenol. Took a Tyleno PM, slept well but had and awful nightmare, which include my mother and that our Great Dane had gotten run over and I was back in my first home in Patchogue

Mary Ann, I am like  June I have terrible circulation in my legs and feet. I just tap my legs and I am in big trouble. Last year I had to have 4 stitches when I hit the side of my leg with own foot?!   The nurse said I have onion skin.  This hematoma is the worst yet, and I just hit it lightly on the side of my padded stool. It is really hurting since  the doc. worked on it  yesterday It also is bleeding quite a bite  I do not feel up to cooking, so I ordered and Italian sandwich
I set on the back deck, had my coffee read the paper, and watched the jets go over.  We are on the flight path to McArther AP and JFK.

Good morning, another warm day in the Interior. We are expecting eighty on Sunday supposedly. Yesterday wasn't as lovely, and it became very windy in the afternoon with trees waving every which way. For an area that never had any real wind, the last three years are a complete turnabout with wind several times a week in any season.

Saturday, I will be out and about with some friends and with Dora for lunch again.

Farrah used to have about 3/4 cup dry food with several treats and an occasional bit of tuna each day. Then at the vet, he again warned me about feral and or abused cats and food. Farrah has gotten almost too heavy for me with my not too stable balance to pick up, and the vet said she had gained too much weight.

Luckily she no longer cares for tuna or any wet food and would prefer treats only. Her newest regime is no treats at all and a feline diet food from IAMS, with one dry cup only per day. As I've mentioned, she has not been a fan of her new lifestyle.

Joan, I rarely go out because I'm happy with my own company and it is hard to get about with my balance. I rarely go downstairs as it seems to be gossip central with folks who spend their seemingly lives in one of the social rooms close to the coffee pot.

I am also getting to the point of not being able to get up into the bus which is free for those over sixty. They do have a few senior and or disabled rides, however, you have to pre-schedule, and you are only able to go from point A and back within a specific time frame.

The fees range from two to five dollars each way as well depending on who you choose, and the bus is free and is available six days a week, every half hour going in several directions. As someone said, there's more brass than gold in these "golden years!"

Gloria, I'm sorry you are in pain and wish the doctors could do more than they have!
