Thanks for the links, Bubble.

Those who aren't watching web cams may wish those who are would get their own forum, too.

....and on that note..... ;D

Mary Ann, Got it re the Duluth locations!   I needed a geography lesson!!!
(Did you or anyone else see the tanker that you mentioned arriving at 8:25 "sidle" up to the dock at the right of the harbor last evening? The Hillside cam was showing a close-up. I was sure it was going to bump the one that's been docked there for quite a while. )

Larry,  it's necessary for me to use a fork with some hamburgers these days.  I like the old-fashioned ones that are "smashed" on a well-seasoned grill.

Oh, don't get me started on these spam phone calls.  I even got one from my own number!!!!  Some of my friends who have moved here from out-of-state have cell phone numbers from their former area codes - and no id.  Most of them know I won't answer and to just start leaving me a message because I'll pick up if I'm here.

Now I'm getting e-mails from people I know with the Subject line "Re:  " (nothing else).  I don't open them because I know all of them would at least give a hint.

Off to find something useful to do....or not.

Mary Ann

Callie, yes, I saw the boat come in behind the one that is anchored there.  I don't know what happened to the cam because that one usually shows a wide expanse and I have even seen it moving to provide a panorama.  I hope they get that back in order.  If you want to take the time, you can move the map part (with your cursor) of the Duluth chart to Two Harbors to see how far it is from Duluth.  Sister Bay is another town where the ships go, but I've never seen one there.  That is further north of Two Harbors (don't try it, there's nothing to see).

Callie, I haven't received any calls from myself, but I have received e-mails from myself, ones that I did not send.  I like to think I'm aware enough that I won't fall for any of the schemes out there.  Dot did get a call that said he was her grandson and was in Chicago and needed money.  She fell for it but when she mentioned the call in the grocery store (before she sent the money), the clerk told her it was a scam and how it was a scam.  Dot then realized that she'd been "had".  The thing was she had family in Chicago so thought it was natural, but after thinking about it, she knew her grandson would call his father, not her.  I think she will not fall for that again.

I may be old, but I'm not senile!

Good morning from a day spent in the last of the forecasted mideighties! Tomorrow we are to slide back into the high seventies with a return to rain possibly on the weekend.

Farrah had gotten herself closed into the coat closet yesterday but managed to come out by manipulating the sliding door. This morning I found the door open, and she was sitting on the shelf that formerly held her treats. Perhaps Farrah realizes that that day has come and gone? I have to admire her reasoning in going after the treats herself upon realizing she could open that door!

Larry, I have kept up the decluttering altho the garage sale items may not appear to support that assumption. They are all useful items, however, especially for my electronics and for my meal prepping. The only unknown is the three heavy-duty glass jars. You just don't find those anymore, even without lids. The largest holds ten cups, one holds eight and the other five, so I'm sure to find a use eventually. Beans, rice and or grains come to mind. If I can't find the proper lids, then I can use the gathered plastic food covers similar to shower caps. What I am trying to do now is make less do more and following a plan that anything I buy is well thought out and of good quality.

MaryAnn, both sites show the same cams albeit differences in size and format. I suppose it all comes down to preference. Yes, I know most cams and Youtube videos have a full-screen feature.

Larry, there is the primary security office by the front entry that also holds the mail room. You have to go there to get not only the carts but also the mail and any packages, UPS  or Fed Ex, etc. Any carts not returned are found by going back through the cameras that show all public areas 24/7. What I dislike is that some will leave them in the hallways or merely put them in the elevators which is very rude. They also leave the carts that are kept in the five laundry rooms, outside their doors or in the hallways.

We received a management letter Monday, concerning fire safety inspections, (extinguishers, alarms, sprinklers); would be next Monday and also that if the carts situation weren't resolved per them not being correctly returned, violators would be assessed a twenty-five dollar fee and receive a lease violation. Three violations and you're evicted.

There was a note included saying that the state is considering making this building, seniors and not just disabled seniors. Since they now have all seven buildings, one of which is for those with various forms of dementia and ours for disabled, one for nonambulatory seniors, two for youth with emotional issues and two for regular seniors, plus their regular earlier setup, why not leave things as they were? We already know rents and other fees will probably rise, I just hope services don't decline.

Hi Everyone.  Late last evening we had a nice rain and it was perfect timing as the lawn people were here just yesterday.  It is to get to the low 90's again today but only a slight chance of rain.  I will go to coffee, after a brief stop at Walmart for a prescription, and then picking up my friend at the retirement home.  Yesterday didn't really turn out much like I thought it might.  We decided to not go out to eat (maybe will do so today) and although Scott came over he stayed for only maybe 30 minutes or so as he had been fighting a migraine headache all day long and he thought it was better when he came over but it came back after he got here.

Bubble, thanks for creating the Cooking Recipes discussion.  As you know I am working on an Index for this discussion and hope to make it public later today or tomorrow.

Callie, speaking only for myself I certainly don't mind the discussions of the webcams.  I have them bookmarked although don't spend much time on them.  I am just glad they are bringing enjoyment to a number of our folks and maybe others will also become interested.  I agree about the old-fashioned hamburgers and we go get that type at the Sunshine Grill where we often eat.  I figure that if a person needs to actually talk with me and they are not in my contact list a message can be left and I can return the call.

Mary Ann, sure glad Dot realized the call from her "grandson" was a scam.  A friend of mine got caught up in that same scam and as I recall he actually sent money.  I usually recognize voices on the phone.

Patricia, that is really funny that Farrah must have thought that if she was sitting on the treat shelf then you would have to remember to give her a treat.  She is persistent.  She is a pretty smart cat as I guess most cats are.  On our top pantry shelf Pat has a number of large plastic containers where she keeps noodles, rice, and other dry things like you mention.  They are clear so easy to see what is in them. I was just teasing you about adding clutter back to your life and those recent purchases sound very wise and useful.  It sounds like your apartment complex as the same problems with the carts that we experienced in the first apartment house where Stacey lived for 6 years.  The fine and violations sound like a pretty good idea and hopefully will solve the problem.  It sounds like there are a lot of unknowns with your apartment building ownership change.

Marilyne

Just a quick "hello" to everyone, and then I'll be off the computer for the remainder of the afternoon.  AJ will be installing a new modem, but first has to exchange the old one at Comcast, so it will be a long process.

I see that "Paul" will be arriving in Duluth again tomorrow.  Large numbers of people always show up to watch him, and line up along the wall, or stand on benches to get a good camera shot. Always fun to see all the activity. I plan to leave myself a post-it note, so I won't miss the arrival. :)

Joy

This is the first chance I had to stop by here.   I had a meeting with the manager here this morning, to get recertified for my lease for next year.  It isn't up until the end of October, but it takes a long time for them to verify all the paperwork.  Luckily, this process has gotten a lot faster than when I first moved here.

I had a call this morning letting me know that a niece's husband had had a heart attack and they had to insert a stent.  The artery was 100% blocked. He is only 47 years old.  "Somebody" was surely looking out for him, as he and his wife had just gotten back home from 10 days in Scotland the day before.  I was told that he was doing very well today.  Another nephew had by-pass surgery a couple weeks ago.  A lot of the men in the next generation are getting to be that age when things like this happen.

Mary Ann, I did fall for one of the scams.  Mine was over the internet from "Microsoft" telling me that my computer would be shut of if I didn't call a certain number.  I don't ever fall for this sort of thing over the phone, but this time, it was really scary.  And, as my son told me,  that is just how these "Scammers" want you to feel.  I did send money, but luckily,  I called my son right away and he told me to call the bank, and I was able to stop payment on the check.  Never heard anymore from the scam, but it sure was a mess getting a new checking account and changing a lot of passwords.   I sure did learn my lesson.  I have not had anything like that since.  I used to get calls from someone with a foreign accent telling me I was having problems with my computer.  Haven't had any of them for a while now, but, I used to just hang up when I heard the person start talking.

The young guy that works on my computer told me that Microsoft will never call you.  So, that is something remember.  I guess, with their scary tactics, lots of seniors fall for that kind of thing.

I think I am feeling better today.  It is a pretty day, not too hot, so I think I will go down and sit outside before I play cards this evening.

Thanks to Bubble for starting the new Recipe forum and Larry, thanks to you for getting it organized.

MaryAnn,  I, too, like to be around people, but am just as content on enjoying some "me" time either reading, or watching TV, or just doing nothing.

Hope everyone has a good evening.

Marilyn, it's too bad you will be off your computer this afternoon because I came here to tell you that Paul is about to go through the Soo locks - it is 4:30 here, so about 1:30 for you.

Sorry 'bout that!

Mary Ann

Joy

Mary Ann,  I just happened to go to the Soo Lock cam and  got to see "the Paul" going through the locks.   That really is a long vessel.  Now, it was coming from the right of the screen.....so does that mean it is going into the lock?   Are there any webcams that show the ships actually going through the lock?  it was only a handful of people watching.  Looks like a very crowded street right there and with cars parked on both sides,  a very tight space to travel on.

I was excited, as that is the first time I have seen a ship go through the lock.  It was about 4:30 here on the east coast, and I thought you were in the Central time zone????  I can't make out the different time sections on the map I have.

jOy
BIG BOX

Mary Ann

Joy, Paul had been in the lock and was out when you saw him.  If you watch often enough, you will notice the ships going west (toward the left) go a bit faster than when going the other way.  That is because they are on the same level of water as Lake Superior on the way to Duluth.  Going the other way, they have to go into the lock where the water will be drained to get the ship to the level of Lake Huron.  Those ships will go very slow.  The locks are very long as they must accommodate those long ships.

I  have tried to get cams of the locks and all of them are said to be "corrupt" and Firefox (my browser) won't allow any of those cams.  I posted something about the locks the other day.  Look back to see if you can find it because it has a view of the locks from above so you can view everything and get a perspective of the layout.  If you don't find it, let me know and I'll look for it; I do not have it saved.  I think it is in a post addressed to Callie.

Tom and I are going to the last birthday party for Tom - at Annie's.  This is the one postponed from last week.  James, Alicia and the twins will be there too.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann, I used to be able to get into the Soo Locks Cam.  No more, has been a few years.  For awhile they said they were "under construction", but that was a few years ago.  I also use Firefox.

Quick question: If I post in the Animal Shelter discussion (where there are no posts), will anyone see/read it?

Sasha, it might show up in my list of folders to read, but I probably would not read it because that is not one of the folders I read.  I may have a dozen folders show up on my screen but I only read a few and when I'm finished, I click on to show everything else read.

I just looked for boats to view and none were available.  I did see one motorboat in the Two Harbors Boat Launch and saw that take off so now I'm here.

Joan, do you have the Soo site that we look at now?  Whenever I search for a cam at the Soo, they're all shown as corrupt.  The present one shows ships going through the channel either before or after they're in the lock.  It does not show them in the lock, but you do get a good view of the ship.

http://dev-9and10news.pantheonsite.io/weather/live-skycams/sault-st-marie-cam/

(This is the present cam).

Mary Ann

wjoan

Mary Ann, cannot get in there as I said so do not try.  Asked them on FB for the link and they told me it was still being worked on.  I gave up.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, if you see this in the next few minutes, go to the Soo because the Lake Ontario ship is going to go through the channel and it is the prettiest blue you've ever seen.  I will say at 10:30 or so, color will be hard to see.

Joan, are you talking about the previous Soo cam that is now corrupt or the present one, which is not corrupt to me.

We just got back from what I think was Tom's last birthday party at Annie's and we had a very good time.  James, Alicia and the girls were there and those are such well behaved children at nearly 17 months.  They are charmers!

Mary Ann - I just looked at the Soo, but nothing there yet - I'll check back and wait.

That must have been it, at about 7:44, West Coat time.  It was too dark for me to see the color.  Too bad it wasn't in the first channel.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, the ship that just went through was the Victory.  There is another ship headed for the Soo - forget the name - and the Lake Ontario is anchored in the middle of nowhere (it shows as a round dot on my cam) so keep track of it.  When I finish here and maybe play a couple games of solitaire, I'm going to bed so I won't see it.

We had a very good time at Annie's tonight.  She and her SO fixed a very good meal that we ate on their deck.  There were six adults plus the two toddlers.  We had burgers and buns, brats, greens salad, potato salad, asparagus and cupcakes that Alicia made.

Annie and Chris live in an area where they have had water problems (contaminants) - so pop was available.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann, when they built the NEW Soo Locks the cams were not working.  That is what they told me.  I do not have any other information.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  Our high temperature is suppose to get to 90 degrees again today with the possibility of more afternoon showers.  We did have a nice shower yesterday right after noon.  We had decided to wait until mid-afternoon to go to Wifesaver's for our main meal of the day and by then the rains were over.  Today the housekeeper will be here and that is all that is on the schedule.  I don't expect to go anywhere today.  I am well into an ebook and another audio book so will probably spend time on both today.

Marilyne, until a few months ago I used the modem/router that I rented monthly from Comcast but decided to buy my own which will pay for itself in less than a year.  It was very easy to install and stopped those monthly charges.  Does your husband experience long lines at the Comcast store?  Where we used to live there were always long lines but here haven't had that problem.  I see from your evening post that you are back online.

Joy, I am sure you are glad to have the re-certification meeting with the manager over for the next year.  Your niece's husband is the same age as I was when I had my first heart attack and heart surgery and that was before they had the stents. I am surprised they could stent a place with 100% blockage.  They were fortunate that the heart attack didn't happen while they were overseas. Fortunately the medicines and techniques now available to the doctors are much better than they used to be.  Glad you didn't lose any money in the scam that caught you.  I don't think any of the reputable companies would call and the same thing is true for the IRS.  Glad to see you were feeling better yesterday.  It is interesting how different we can feel on different days.  I am still working on   the Recipe Index.

Mary Ann, I hope you and Tom enjoyed the last birthday party for Tom this year.  He is a very fortunate man to have so many folks wanting to help him celebrate.  I see you got to see the twins?

Joan, try this.  It is from a restaurant in the Soo (Sault Ste Marie Michigan) and it the only site I have that works.  I do not get a "corrupt" notice with it.

It was good to see the twins last night.  We are amazed at the good attitudes the girls have.  Tom remarked that he doesn't recall any meal where they've created a disturbance.  I wonder if there being two of them contributes to their attitudes.  Of course, their parents contribute too.  They smile a lot and are beginning to talk and say a few words.  We're working on "grandpa" now.  When James learned a few words and names, he called me "Maryman".  Annie was about the age of the girls (17 months) when she'd say "gommie" for Grandma and I was included in that.  My mother told me a few of my early words that I will not go into.  Nothing unusual, just the same as other small children.

MarsGal

Mornin' all.

Today it is to get to 85oF, or there abouts. When I took the trash out for collection, around 5:30am, it was very, very humid and smelled of rot and mold outside. My basement isn't smelling much better, even with the dehumidifier. I am hoping that the humidity is down a little tomorrow and Sunday because I want to mow the lawn again. I have an electric mower, so I don't mow when the grass is wet, nor do I go out in the afternoon heat.

I got news yesterday that my girlfriend in Colorado had to have her favorite kitty put down. Tigger who "blew up like a balloon" was diagnosed with lymphoma. The vet determined that Tigger was too weak to try to drain the accumulating fluid. She plans on sitting Tigger's urn on a mantel with a favorite bed-time toy. I'm sad to hear of it, and it make me a little anxious since this is the second favored cat of friends who had to be put to sleep. I sincerely hope that one of mine doesn't make the traditional "comes in threes" bad news.

I have been taking it easy the last few days trying to get caught up on the remaining three borrowed books before the due date.

wjoan

Mary Ann, thanks, have that one.  Did not realize it was the Soo Locks tho.  LOL  You gave me that one some time back.

Mary Ann

#9442
Joan, while I wish the Soo site would be more like the Duluth one, it's all I have and it's the best I have.  Do you also have the map of the Soo area?  It shows the ships and the direction they are going so you can kind of predict when a ship will show up.  Anyway, you are now in the Soo business!!!

MarsGal, it is always hard to hear about any pet having to be put down.  I like to think Kendrick is in good health.  He certainly is active enough when he wants to be.

Tom and I have decided both of us ate too much last night.  I had thought I did not, but about 2 am I was still awake and I could tell my discomfort was from that fact.  I'm OK now but I haven't had anything to eat this morning, but I will find something to eat within the next hour.  The food was good and there was nothing wrong in the preparation; it's just that we both ate more than we should have.  And I did not eat some of everything that was on the table.  Tom is 61 now, so he's no Spring Chicken either.  I tried to be moderate, but it didn't work.  It won't work the next time either!!!

It's a semi-sunny day today and I doubt we'll get to 80 degrees which will be nice.  It is 74 right now.  No rain in sight, however, the weather is fickle, so who knows what will happen.

Mary Ann

wjoan

Mary Ann, my eyesight being what it is I opted out of the map site.  Thanks for all your help tho.  :)

Mary Ann

Joan, I thought of that when I mentioned it.

Mary Ann

This just came in and I immediately thought of my mayo-loving friend;

"ICE Artisan Ice Cream in Falkirk, Scotland, is selling an ice cream flavor made with mayonnaise. Some people were disgusted by the idea while those who tried the flavor said it was "creamy and rich." Would you try it?🍨"

Marilyne

Patricia - I like a normal amount of mayo on a sandwich, but the idea of ice cream containing mayo is something I don't even want to imagine!  Gag!

Mary Ann - I sympathize with your slight upset over eating too much for dinner.  That's something I have an ongoing problem with, because I eat way too fast, and tend to consume too much, too quickly at my evening  meal. :eat:  This results in not feeling very well after dinner and overnight.  Tums, helps a little.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I might try the mayo ice cream - maybe a couple spoonsful, but it doesn't sound too appetizing to me.  I use mayo on sandwiches, lightly spread, and I use it in egg salad and potato salad, probably elsewhere, but I am sure mayo ice cream would not become a favorite.

Marilyn, I took three of my tums variety and they helped but did not solve my problem.  I just had a piece of toast and I had a cookie earlier.  I think that will be it until supper.  My stomach is feeling fine now and I want to let it feel fine the rest of the afternoon.  I used to think I had a cast iron stomach, but the past few years have told me I do not!  I wonder if age has anything to do with it.

Someone here, at home; reminded me that mayo and avocados are used in cookies, cakes, and bread and they add richness and moisture only, no taste to the finished product and he thinks you probably wouldn't taste it in the ice cream either.

I use regular yogurt in place of mayonnaise a lot and even add it to sauces such as barbeque or spaghetti with no taste. So, even tho it sounds unappetizing, it probably wouldn't be that way. I would taste it probably.

I just read in Live Science that Space is 12 miles closer to earth due to a recalculation due to previously using centuries-old data. The only real side effect is political and militarily or to spacecraft returning to earth's atmosphere mathematics.

Mayo  in ice cream?
no no no...   :knuppel2:

I like mayo on some sandwiches, unfortunately good
tasting mayo is calorie intensive...  so I try to
avoid it.

I try very hard not to ingest calories,
after 7 at night,  or before 11 in the morning.
This affords me 16 hours of a calorie fast,
every day.

Intermittent Fasting For Women: Your Complete Guide:
Click below
https://blog.kettleandfire.com/intermittent-fasting-for-women/

For me, it is an interesting and easy
way to approach  needed weight loss.. while
still being able to control my diet which can affect
treatment of AFib....   (need to stay away from
vitamin K and other foods that interfere
with coumadins ability to prevent strokes.)

I also like the idea of not eating after 7PM at
night...  and it is not too hard to wait until
11 Am to begin eating.  My stomach seems
happy with this arrangement...  and I am slowly
starting to loose weight.

I will be 75 in November so just about every
thing I embark upon has some stipulations
to it.     "Intermittent Fasting"  works well for me.
I also do not eat any dairy...    So I do have to
give a lot of thought to the food that I can
ingest.

I just found "dairy free" ice cream  and it is
pretty good... good enough to satisfy my
desire for ice cream!!

Oh I am rambling again...
Have a good day everyone.
Still humid here on the rocky coast of
Maine.
