Hal, I remember being bumped up to first class for some reason in my early twenties. I remember looking at the gold salt and pepper shakers, small tablecloth and real plates with real napkins and cutlery. I remember thinking WOW! right up until they brought me my plastic plate and economy meal!  :'(

JeanneP

Angel.  Now the time I got bumped up to first class the treated me like all the others in there. Got a great meal. Wine, and everything. Slippers also. Was from UK to Chicago.  Have used business class but now First Class can't be beat.
Now using Tourist or 3rd class.  Treated like Cattle back there. Getting worse the say.Yes now I am checking for a flight to UK and the prices are up to what Business class was a few years ago..
JeanneP

angelface555

Jeanne, your trip sounds better than mine, that's for sure! I don't remember why I was moved up, just that I was young and still naive back then. No slippers and no wine or fancy meals for me!

I was going from Cincinnati to Seattle with stops.

The "cattle" feeling is being linked to flight disruptions now and I read that carriers are now paying attention.

JeanneP

Grand Haven looks rough today but beautiful with the waves.

Eagle babies are really getting big now. At what age do the start to fly?

I've seen that one before.  The second pic is the current one, what's happening right now.  Pretty crummy out :).

That cam must be pretty close to the one we have on now.  See someone out there flying kites.  Does look rough still.  Give me the chills listening to it.  Sort of cold here. My furnace running all day.

We are back to a sunny day but there are ominous clouds rising up and over the foothills!

Sandy, you are one lucky lady! Congrats!  :smitten:

I looked at the cam shot and felt it was the same as usual - Earth Cam.  We have had rain all day and it has rained hard at times.  Our temp has been in the mid 40s all day too.

Tom, Dot, Terry, Jan, Jan's parents and I had lunch at a Polish cafe where we ate about a month ago.  I did not like what I had at that time, so ordered a burger with mushrooms, onions ad Swiss cheese.  It was filling and I brought half home.  Dot ordered what I had the last time and liked it.  We will go to a pizza place next week and they have other foods than just pizza.

It is 2:19 am here. I went to bed way too early and had been dozing so finally decided to get up for a time. It is 54 and cloudy but expected to be warm and sunny later on.

There is another restaurant opening near us that already has people raving! It is employing, training and preparing homeless and other disadvantaged folks for life and further employment. Evidently the prices are right and the food is well prepared and presented. I'm planning to go to lunch there soon with friends.

Well, my new cat came home yesterday around four PM and promptly decided to rule the roost from under the bed for the time being. She has made a couple of forays out but is being cautious. She isn't a long haired grey like Sarah but rather a grey  short haired, smooth coated  tabby mixed with what looks like Russian Blue. I haven't really gotten a chance to interact with her as yet.

Her original microchip has her as a four-year-old from Anchorage, and they gave her a new chip here. Sarah was around eight and more self-assured but this one is different as we all are and this well be good for me to have one different to care for. I miss Sarah but need someone to indulge and love. They're calling her Lucy but that will change as it doesn't fit her to my way of thinking.

When Pet Pride delivered her, the manager here and others told the volunteer about a drug house a block over that had been raided and a,(to the speakers); beautiful calico roaming the backyard. So Pet Pride will contact the owners of the property and set a trap to bring that one in. I'm so isolated that I wasn't aware that it was a drug house nor of the raid.

MarsGal

Great, Angelface. I was only one night without my Twerp before I realized being catless was not going to work. I ended up with two.

Lucy is a lot like you new kitty. It took her about a month before she got brave enough to come out of hiding (except for meals, of course) with me around. She still disappears when there is anyone else in the house. Usually she is gone before anyone even sets foot in the door. My best friend has only caught a glimpse of her twice and my sister, only once.

angelface555

We are allowed only one pet per apartment here and under twenty pounds, or I would have had two. I had small golden cat, years ago that my father called a ghost cat. He, (my Dad); lived with me for three months before going into hospice and swears he only saw a quick flash one time.

Sarah was so confident that she never hid but faced everything head on. Both cats spent time living outdoors dumped from towns and this one may be less afraid as time goes by. Its only been a week today but I was not ready to live alone.

I don't like the implications of this one's fear and hope by leaving her alone that she soon settles.

weather wise.  Today is suppose to be equally as nice although will only get to 70 degrees this afternoon. We had a nice Taco Dinner with a delicious dessert at our Wednesday night dinner at church and then our young peoples drama department put on a show afterwards, which appears to be an annual event.  It was cute.  I will go to coffee in a couple of hours and then plan on getting a haircut and getting a few items at Walmart.  We do not have our Wisdom group today as the pastor is involved in the mayor's prayer luncheon at our normal meeting time and won't be available.  I had a great night's sleep last night, which was very welcome and I feel nice and rested this morning.

Patricia, nice that you will be getting another cat.  Nice that the fees have been waived.  You obviously have a way with cats that the rescue organization thought of you about this particular cat.

Kelly

Evening time here and sunny.

Patricia, you did so well with accommodating Sarah, I know you will do the same with this new kitty. I feel cats have to first learn trust, and in hiding and being cautious they are only following the nature of cats. Food will be the drawing out from hiding places, as you know, but you are doing the right thing by giving this one it's space. I congratulate you for adopting a new one so soon.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good afternoon, on another cold and rainy day.

Patricia, I am so gald to read you have a new kitty.  Taffy, stayed under the bed for a few days, when I got  her, but now she is like a dog , and is always near by.  right now she is setting on my back, while I try to type.

Gloria and June, I hope so. She advances and she retreats which is so different than Sarah who expected others to do the retreating!

One thing I found comical today,  was when she was peering around the corner watching me eat a slice of buttered toast. I offered it to her and she watched but didn't approach. So I took a bite to show her it was safe, the human didn't die; so she came forward and sniffed the toast but didn't care for a bite!

I had a cat back in the late nineties who loved to lay curled around my shoulders and would have slept that way at night if she could have!

For myself, Gloria and others enamoured of cats;

"I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little they become its visible soul." Jean Cocteau, Writer

This quote rings true to me. I have a cat of my own, and I strongly believe that a family that includes a cat is a family in good company. It would seem that many families agree too: according to the American Pet Products Association, 79 to 96 million cats are owned in the United States. There's no denying that pet ownership in general can improve a person's quality of life, cat ownership in particular. In fact, scientists have studied the human-animal bond and discovered the many health benefits of owning a cat. Let's take a look:

1. They improve your cardiovascular system

Studies conducted at the University of Minnesota found that those who did not own cats were 30 to 40 percent more likely to die of cardiovascular disease, when compared to cat owners. Unfortunately, dog owners do not reap these same benefits. Other studies show that the chance of death from sudden heart attack is reduced among cat owners too. In fact, a study funded by the NIH (National Institute of Health) determined that pet owners were more likely to survive a heart attack. Furthermore, owning a cat can reduce your stroke risk by up to one third, according to a study conducted at the University of Minnesota.

2. They boost your immune system

Owning a cat has been found to lead to improved social support, reduced depression and more laughter, play and exercise - all of these factors combine to help your immune system function better. Cats can also determine when you're not feeling well and help you get better by comforting you.

3. They reduce allergies and respiratory problems

Children brought up around cats (and dogs too) develop immunity to allergens from an early age. Studies show that the incidence of respiratory problems (including asthma) is reduced in children who are exposed to cats in their early years. On top of reducing allergies, studies found that children raised with pets appear to develop greater empathy for the feelings of others and are able to better relate to other people.

4. They help lower your blood pressure

Petting your cat has been found to be calming and may reduce your blood pressure. Studies conducted at the University of New York found that people who owned pets had lower blood pressure than those who did not. Studies also found that children with hypertension had lower blood pressure while petting their cat or dog.

5. They help lower your cholesterol and triglycerides

It is a well known fact that diet and exercise can go a long way toward reducing cholesterol and triglyceride levels. However, studies show that owning a cat can help too. In fact, owning a cat lowers cholesterol better than some medications, according to a 2006 study conducted in Canada. In turn, this may make pet owners less prone to heart attacks than non pet-owners.

6. They can help heal your bones and muscles

All thanks to their purring powers. Cats purr at a frequency between 20 to 140 Hz - and their purring is thought to have therapeutic effects. It has been found that bones heal best at 25 Hz and 50 Hz frequencies. Furthermore, soft tissues like muscles, tendons and ligaments, and problems like infections and swelling, heal faster at these frequencies.

7. They reduce stress and anxiety

In today's fast paced lifestyle, interacting with a pet may bring play-time and creativity back into your life. Caring for a cat and cuddling with them can help take your mind off your worries, reducing your levels of anxiety and stress. Spending just a couple of minutes with your pet can reduce cortisol (a stress hormone) and boost serotonin, a happy hormone that not only makes you feel better but reduces pain.

8. They improve your mood and relieve depression

On the one hand, cats may have been given the reputation of being solitary, unsocial creatures. On the other, the love and companionship of a cat can help lift your spirits, if you simply pet them. Animals are surprisingly responsive to emotional states in humans, enabling them to care for you whenever you need it.

My last cat was a beige short haired male with some white striped stockings.  He was gorgeous!  And funny and fun.  He loved to watch television, and I bought a couple of DVDs made for cats that he adored.  It was a hoot to watch him sitting up straight on the floor in front of the TV with his head going back and forth and back and forth!
I would adore to have one again, but my lease does not permit and I am no longer physically able to lug home litter and clean out litter boxes.  But the lease is the biggest drawback.

So happy to read you have a new kitty,  ANGEL.  I felt certain she will be out and about very soon.  I ðŸ'— Grey short haired cats.  I wish you two a very good life together.

MARYANN, happy to read that you enjoyed time together eating with the family.

I wish you all a good night.
