Good morning from a cool 47 degree Interior with an expected high of only 54. We have had frost the last three mornings however the rain is expected to abate today. Our normal weather pattern of snow due around the end of October might not happen this year.

The state in their infinite wisdom has decided to take control of the heating system so our individual thermostats will no longer work. While I have never used mine as I am amidst other units, there are those who have and are upset. Washers and dryers have gone from a dollar each per load to two fifty per load. And the 24/7 hot coffee in the main floor social room has gone to two pots set out morning and noon only before the large commercial pot is wheeled back into lockup. There have been reports of both rent increases and decreases so I have no idea of how I'll fare at my October meeting.

What I'm concerned about is the 24/7 security and maintenance. We also have an office manager, staffed 24/7 mail/security room and a staff co-coordinator who works with folks needing papers assistance or help with other matters. We do have continuous cameras in all public areas but having security stationed at each door and on call is comforting. I hope these aren't cut.

I have also learned that our previous Canadian owners, having divested their US holdings are now looking at possible European ventures. Yay for them...

Hi Everyone.  I am back from the big shopping trip to Costco.  It took me quite awhile today as I had to walk it pushing the cart.  This was a big order as I wanted to start stocking the freezer.  By the time I got to the register I was so tired I asked for help unloading the shopping cart and then help putting it in the car.  I still have some paper products to unload from the car but that can wait until later this afternoon.

deAngel, it sounds like you will have a busy rest of the week.  There are several roadside fruit stands around here where you can buy the boiled peanuts that they boil right there.

June, glad the nurse took good care of you and that you were feeling better yesterday.

Sandy, was the waiting room not where you were suppose to wait until your turn? That was a good news day for you.  Glad you no longer need to worry about having the tests.

Carol, I need to get my shots and may get the flu and pneumonia shots tomorrow when I am at Walmart to pick up prescriptions.  I also want to get the first of the shingles shots but wonder if they will give all three at one time.

Amy, nice of your neighbor to help with the hard part of your yard.  Is this the neighbor that you dog tend for them when they are away?  The dinner was good and since it was already fixed we had it again last evening and it was just as good the second time around.  There is still enough for another meal but think we will freeze that and see how it holds up.

Shirley, I probably won't have another colonoscopy either as am now past 75 and my last one was clear.  That doesn't break my heart but I never really minded them.  I have two cousins, brother and sister, with Crohn's Disease.

Jane, glad you found out that it was dandruff on Mickie and not something else.  Glad the heating pad helps your back.

Jenny, have you started doing baby shopping for Jonah yet?  It is an exciting time in a family with a new baby. How long will Brian and Cathy be in Seoul?

Lloyd, you might want to try Mapquest for the directions you need for your trip. You just put in your starting point and the ending point and it will give you both a map and written instructions.

Gloria, it sounds like you have already had a busy morning but glad a CNA was available to help you.  I do get a daily email from Babamail and will scan it to see if there is anything I am interesting in.

Because  of my AFIB  and  have
had strokes and  am on blood thinners, and
have only a little vision in my right eye ,
I went into the hospital the
night before  my date with the Dr.  and did the prep
work there for the procedures.   (With the help
of the nurses etc)

Unfortunately,   I got lost in the scuffle.... because
most people do not go into the hospital before
having  a Colonoscopy and Upper Endoscopy

Marilyn, I waited until afternoon before I took my pills and all went down OK.  I don't need any suggestions; I just need the "get-up-and-go" to get them down.  Taking them in the afternoon isn't the most desirable time, but it worked OK today.  I took a nap and Kendrick helped me.  He left my side but when I got up, he was still on the bed.

It's hot here today, maybe not as hot as in other places, but hot for here.  My thermometer says 90 degrees.  I am not going on the deck until after sundown, maybe not then.  It should cool down one of these days.

Joan, waiting along with you.

I want to tell you something "cute" that Tom did; at least his intentions were good.

Did I mention slipping off my bed when I was sick?  I ended up on the floor and for 45 minutes, called to Tom and he didn't hear me.  I finally reached my phone and got in touch with him.  As as result he ordered four "emergency" bells, one for my bedroom, one for the bath, computer room and living room.  Well,
"Tinkle, tinkle, little bell,
I don't hear you very well"!

They were listed as "emergency" but they're like a society woman would have beside her chair and when she'd ring the bell, her maid would come to see what she wanted.  Although I'm not sure the maid would hear it unless she was nearby.

Anyway, the bells are going back.  We really need cowbells.

Mary Ann

Sandy

That is funny,  Mary Ann ...
I bet that you and Tom had a good laugh
over those tiny bells. ..

Why don't you get a "Life Alert"  account.

http://lifealerthelp.com/default.aspx?Id=Bing-Life_Alert

I have had one for 5 years,  and wouldn't
be without it...

It would give you all "piece of mind" ...

Sandy, I really had not thought of it.  Getting old is one of those things you don't want to admit and you want to hold on to your ability to do something, even if it's too late.  We have talked about a Rollator.

Thanks for letting me know that you like yours.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - your story of the bells is a good one! ;D  I don't think I could even hear a cowbell if someone were ringing it in the next room. I'm sure all the ringing of bells, got Kendrick's attention though!

Joan - I'm sorry that Candy apparently didn't get a response yet from her doctor?  She must be feeling very anxious and worried.  I hope that she hears something tomorrow, and that it will be good news!

wjoan

Marilyne, I am hoping the same.  I suggested she call them, but she said no.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  It will be another day in the low 90's with no rain in the forecast.  We enjoyed a very tasty dinner at Church last evening and there was a big crowd as chicken wings seems to be a popular item for these dinners. We then enjoyed a pleasant evening with Scott.  I have only two things on my schedule today, other than a few chores here at the house.  I will be picking up my friend and we will go to coffee.  On the way home I will stop at Walmart to pick up three prescriptions for Pat and a few other items. The rest of the day should be pretty quiet and restful.

Sandy, thanks for the explanation and I hadn't realized you had already been in the hospital the night before.  Glad they finally located you.

Mary Ann, glad you found a good time to take your pill. Good for Tom ordering the emergency bells, an obvious act of love and concern for you but see they are not going to work out in your situation.  Maybe he can find another solution. Glad you weren't hurt in sliding off the bed.  Sandy had a good suggestion. I am a big advocate of the alert buttons as Stacey had to use hers several times as did my DIL.

Marilyne and Joan, I also hope today will be the day Candy hears from the doctor.  To bad she doesn't want to call and inquire as sometimes paperwork gets lost or overlooked.

Sandy

I spoke up and told the nurses
that I was late for my "procedures"  and they said,
"Oh were you suppose to have them this morning? .

Then they went and made a couple of calls and
finally I was rushed down to the procedure room and
met with the Doctor..

Had I not spoken up....
I might still be there!!!
:uglystupid2:

Just goes to show how important it is to
be paying attention when we are dealing with
medical issues.

All is well now. And I am sleeping
really good since I got the good results.

Good Morning.  I'm up but I'm not quite sure about "attem".  I used to be a definite morning person, but maybe it's mid-morning now; I've slid a bit.

It's Thursday OK because the lawn guys are here.  They're usually here until the first week of November, weather permitting, then they do the cleanup, such as blow away any leaves that have fallen, one last mowing.  We've had this group a long time so they know what they're doing.

James is to come today to put up the window coverings we bought last week.  The cord on my honeycomb shade broke and I'm replacing the shade with a vertical shade.  It won't be as decorative as the honeycomb, but maybe easier for me to manage.  I was going to get the same for Tom's room but he wants shades to be darkening and he was afraid the vertical shades would not work.  So the salesman showed him a honeycomb that is room darkening.  He has been putting a blanket over the window so he can sleep.  Up on the hill and the back of a building, one night about ten bright lights appeared.  I know they are safety lights for the building but they make our bedrooms like daylight.  With the honeycomb shade I have now, light comes though the shade but the lights themselves are not visible.  As I sleep mostly on my left side, my back is to the window.  Tom has a single adjustable bed and sleeps on his back.  His bed is beside the window so he can open the window.  To each his own.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann, I didn't know there was such a thing as a room darkening honeycomb shade.  At the time I bought the shades for the bedroom, (ten plus years ago?), I don't think they had them, or I would have considered buying them.  I remember that there was a double honeycomb, but they were quite pricey, and seemed a little too thick looking. I have regular old fashioned pinch pleat drapes that I can draw, to cover the shades, if I want to.  They help to keep the heat down from the afternoon sun on the windows.

Nothing on tap today of any interest.  AJ is going to lunch with his friends from IBM, and afterwards, he'll stop at Costco, and get whatever I need or want.  I'm trying to think of some interesting things in the way of food, but can't come up with any ideas.  I'm getting tired of the rotisserie chicken and the casseroles.  Maybe I'll actually have to cook something from scratch?? (Nahhh . . . not happening!)

Good morning from a still soggy Interior as the rains returned yesterday afternoon. With the early morning frosts that showed up last week, this is turning out to be an unusual year. Evidently, from what I've heard, many of the young military spouses and newcomers see this as somehow a normal longstanding state of affairs. They are not happy and are looking to leave as soon as possible. I suppose more power to them as youth is often very shortsighted.

Farrah has been entertained by the large flocks circling outside her window on the world. The collection of year around small sparrows, wrens, redpolls, juncos, pine siskins, chickadees and others who spinoff into their own summer flocks are in the process of combining into substantial multi-species flocks that they do each fall for mutual protection. She crouches to the side of the window, body tense and ready to spring, altho she has never gnashed or chittered her teeth as most cats do. Since we rarely see summer birds this is an unexpected treat for her. Altho one pigeon smashed hard into the window a few weeks ago and sat dazed on the balcony railing before flying off. Farrah was on edge, not sure to stay or retreat.

The Ravens and owls will soon be around following the birds. The Golden eagles have left to join their bald cousins in the Southeast, and the Hawks have moved south with the majority of others from the sanctuary at Creamers Field. The newspaper reported that many of the small mammals have already denned for the winter. So life moves on.

I have to go out, and bill pay and I wish I could just stay in. I never seem to warm up after I've been out in the rain.

MaryAnn, I have had a MedicAlert for two years because of falling, but I could only afford the one that works just on my floor. So, of course, my last falls have been away from home. I am glad I have it just in case as I know help would be readily available.

I am so used to our summers that the constant daylight has no effect on my sleep but there is a booming trade in blackout material for tourists and newcomers. I'm told that when I was four and visiting my Colorado grandparents, I came in yelling like Chicken Little that the world was ending because it was getting dark in the summer. I still feel that way when I'm outside.

This Mom is angry.  She called the Dr. office and all they told her was she needs to go back in 3 months for another MRI as they saw something wrong with her Liver.  Like I have said before, we have the worst Medical staff in WA that I have ever heard of.  Candy is in tears and I don't blame her.  She still has infection but they do not touch that.  What is wrong with these doctors?  I have no medical training at all but KNOW it is wrong to let this woman go on in pain without helping her.  Jeeeez

Sandy

I think that is so unfair..
Telling Candy that  there is some thing
wrong with her Liver,  and to come back in
Three months for more testing!

There are lots of good hospitals in this Country on
both the West and East Coasts..  Here is
hoping that she can get to one of them.

Mary Ann

Joan, I feel so bad for Candy.  I wish I had some medical training so I could give you some sort of advice.  There must be some higher authority to turn to in order to get some information and someone working on her case.  You may have to start with the governor and work your way down.

Marilyn, I only saw the curtain from a distance and I might be very wrong.  I did see that the curtain was dark.  James did not come today and told his dad he would be here tomorrow.  Tom is like that.  But Tom has never really learned to do constructive work in the house but he will work with James and it will get done and between the two of them, they'll do a good job.  My dad was of the generation where you fixed what broke and I was used to that.  Norm was kind of like that too, but of his three sons, two could do anything to fix what was broke and Tom was the one who can't.

Patricia, I doubt the constant daylight would bother me other than for a few days.  I take a nap in my bedroom in broad daylight.  Sleeping on my left side, I do have my back to the light, but the room is bright.  I've gone to sleep with the overhead light on at times, but I do choose to turn off my light.  That is one thing I won't have to test - constant daylight.

Kendrick does lie by the slider and sees the birds, but certainly not the variety that Farrah sees.  He'd go nuts!!!

Mary  Ann

Marilyne

Joan - Like you, I am SO angry!  The good news is that they apparently didn't see anything on her pancreas?  I know you were both worried about that, because of your mother.  Now she needs to have someone go over the MRI with her, and tell her exactly what was found.  Waiting three months for another one, is unacceptable, but it seems like there is no where to turn for advice or information?

wjoan

Sandy, thanks.  Here is hoping one of these doctors will do something towards making her well again.

Mary Ann, I think I will suggest she start with Dept. of Health here in the Tri Cities.

Marilyn, I agree.  Hope to start with Dept. of Health and see where that takes her.

angelface555

A word of caution. My daughter died of a brain tumor after three years of back and forth to doctors who relied on previous doctors' notes of finding no cause, and one doctor literally told me that some teenage girls do things like this for attention. Of course, after her death, they all stated they had lawyers!

Candy needs to find  a support group, additional medical sources or go public or leave the state for testing. Don't expect the doctors or the insurance companies to care beyond the cash flow.

wjoan

Thanks Angel.  I have already been very urgent with her to do something before she dies of something an antibiotic could have cured.  UGH

wjoan

UPDATE:  Just talked to Candy on the phone.  She is at work right now but promised me she would go to the ER  within the next 24 hours.  Told her to be stern and not take sh.t from anyone.  This has gone on long enough and TOOOO long.

wjoan

Sorry for your loss.  Would have said so above but brain was not working then.

Mary Ann

We've been home about an hour from the follow-up with my PCP doctor and had a good conversation.  All is well so far.  We did have a prescrip to pick up at Meijer for an antibiotic (UTI) and we stopped at Mc D's for hamburgers and a Sprite and came home.  I do not have an appointment for more follow-up.

Joan, I'm glad to hear that Candy is doing something now regarding getting help.  I think her care system is ridiculous but I don't know that much about medical care.

I don't know how far the Amway fame has spread but it's big around here.  Today Rich De Vos, one of the Amway founders died.  He was 92.  He was the FIL of Betsy De Vos, the Secy of Education in the Trump administration.  I liked him, but I don't like her.  I will say he's done a lot for downtown Grand Rapids, donating money to the various colleges here and to the GR school system; he really has done a lot.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

I meant to say that when I got home tonight, I had a call waiting and it was a call from Microsoft telling me to call a number or I would lose my Microsoft license.  I've heard that several people have gotten such calls and I ignored it because they are a scam.  How dumb do they think many people are?  I know some people fall for those things but I like to think I have enough sense to not fall for them.  Tom often says he's thankful I still have my mental capacity.  I am too.

Thanks, Joan, she died in May 1991, and afterward, they diagnosed me with PTSD as a result. Then I was the durable power of attorney for my dad and had to twice get lawyers involved to get the insurance company to do what they were supposed to do. He died in 1995, and I was co-power of attorney for my mom who died in 2000, so I don't have a soft spot for the medical or insurance professions. My dad at 87 was part of a suit against both Etna and Allstate for malpractice, and they were sanctioned and had to pay costs and a huge, (to me); fine. What got me was this wasn't the first time both companies had been involved in ripping off people. So how many times had they gotten away with it?

I hope Candy gets educated on what she needs for her care and finally gets some actual help!

wjoan

Angel, you are lucky.... my Dad died at age 56 and I still miss him.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone. It is going to be another hot, 94 degree, afternoon with only a 10% chance of rain.  I plan on staying home today unless Pat wants to go out and eat as we often do the day the housekeeper is here and this is that day.  I managed to stay pretty busy all day yesterday and it has been a busy morning but I told Pat not to expect much more work from me today.  I just prepared her breakfast and had already folded a load of clothes.  I had purchased a bottle of baby shampoo to try on my hair as a friend of mine said he used it and it was gentle.  However, as hard as I tried I couldn't get the thing opened.  Fortuantely, Pat had shampoo in the shower that I was able to use to wash out the medicated shampoo I had used and let set for about 20 minutes or so per instructions.

Does anyone else find packaging of things difficult to open.  I had to put up a 12 box pack of tissues and the wrapping was so tight and tough that I had a hard time opening it and that seems to be the rule anymore.

Sandy, I don't think we can assume anything when we are under medical care or waiting in the hospital.  We need to ask questions.  Glad things worked out OK and that you got the good results you did.

Mary Ann, do your lawn people come every week?  Our do and I really can't see that it needs to be done on such a schedule except perhaps for the spring when things start to grow or in late fall to deal with the few leaves we have in our yards since we don't have any big trees.  But they are under contract.  I actually sort of dread the days they come as it is so noisy in the neighborhood.  I guess this is my day to complain--sorry about that.  I didn't realize Rich DeVos was still alive (of course he isn't now).

Marilyne, when we moved here Pat decided not to put up drapes for the first time in our married life as we have nice Faus wooden blinds.  However, she has been talking about putting up darkening drapes in our bedroom as it is pretty bright in the afternoon.  It doesn't bother me but it does her.  However, she has found a good sleep mask that shuts out the light so hasn't pursued the drapes.  When I went to Costco Wednesday I got a big tray of pork tenderloins with Tuscany seasoning and we had meal one of four and they were delicious grilled.  They are pretty thick but not very large around but we found two of them was a very adequate meal.  This is definitely a keeper.  Have you tried them?  They are in the fresh meat case.

Patricia, it seems really early for frost and it will be a long time coming down this way.  Glad the birds are entertaining Farrah and giving her something different to do.  Our cat always chattered his teeth when he saw birds.  You get to enjoy interesting birds and wildlife up your way.  I am sure the insurance companies have gotten away with a lot and will continue to do so when people don't fight.

Joan, I don't blame you for being angry and I so feel for Candy.  Doctors usually want to help, at least in my experience.

wjoan

Larry, used to be that way.  Not so anymore.  Since the Malpractice laws changed in WA State some years ago, we do not have many GOOd Doctors here anymore.  Tis a Shame.
Yes I find packages almost impossible to open these days.  Have to get  one of my kids to help.

Mary Ann

Larry, I also find packaged things hard to open.  I get a 4-pk of Kleenex and I have to use scissors to get between two boxes to cut the plastic to open the package.  Bubble packs are also hard to open.  If he notices, Tom will open something for me but I try to do it myself!

Larry, yes, our lawn guys come every week and if we have enough rain over the summer, our grass needs it.  They do a good job and the noise really does not bother me; I guess I've heard it for so many years, I'm used to it.

Mary Ann
