The five kittens from Perfect Pal's Kritter Room went up for adoption this afternoon and Jalapeno, with no eye damage, was pre-adopted. As was Pickles and Tomato who had minor eye damage and were adopted together. Peanut and Relish whose eyes were saved due to diligent care and blood serum donated by a canine donor were not chosen as yet.

They were the ones who they, (Vets and shelter staff); thought would lose an eye each and one actually had the corner of the lens protruding through a hole in the eye. Their eyes healed due to medication and while both bad eyes are blind, one with a seeing eye distinguishes between light and shadows while the other has one right eye and one blind eye.

They will stay with other kittens in a shelter room until adopted which I hope will be soon. They came in 11 weeks ago with three kittens not expected to survive and two weeks developmentally delayed so this is really a good outcome for the foster dad's 61st litter in ten years. Now, the kitten room will be washed down and all items, toys, and blankets bleached and cleaned while everyone waits for the kitten dealer to announce another needy cat, kittens, pregnancy or another feline emergency.

Mary Ann

That kitten site is an interesting one with changes of kittens occasionally and the activity of the kittens.  I watched it sometimes and enjoyed it.

Adam came by with his gal friend today and spent most of the day here.  We had KFC for dinner and they will be back tomorrow for a bit.  So good to see him again.

Hi Everyone. Our area seems to have avoided any direct impacts from the Hurricane.  We had generally light rain starting yesterday afternoon but no big wind gusts that I heard.  Today we may get some more rain but they are saying less than an inch with some wind gusts.  However, it is now moving Northward away from us.  So did feel somewhat better yesterday and, as of now, I do plan on going to Sunday School and Church.  Nothing else on the agenda for today.  I did stay home all day yesterday and rested a lot.

Mary Ann, it is a shame Tom wasn't given an advance notice of what the family wanted him to do at the grave site. All the funeral I have ever attended the minister who conducted the service also did the internment service.  So far I haven't seen or heard of any effects from the storm other than the street fair closed down at 5 pm last evening due to the winds but will resume this morning.  I probably won't water again this year unless we have multiple days without any moisture.

Joan, great that we can find food already prepared and can be brought in for a good meal.  I have always liked KFC but Pat prefers the friend chicken from Bojangles and I try to stay away from friend foods as much as possible and they have a good grilled sandwich so that is often our Sunday dinner with a little side. It sounds like you all had a great day of visiting and certainly a change of pace for you.

Marilyne, wow so sorry to hear of your burned fingers.  I agree it would be hard to do left hand typing. Take care.

Jean, we have some of those plans that are suppose to have "cool" handles but I am still very careful.  I really have to watch the toaster oven door when I remove Pat's toast in the morning and have found out how easy it is to get a little burn from the door. It is not a well designed product and really wish we had just gotten a toaster rather than a toaster oven.

deAngel, our normal response to something falling is trying to catch it.  However, a hot iron is not something that should be in that category.  Sorry you had the delay in getting the shot you needed.

MarsGal, glad your sister and family could come and spend the storm in your area.  Better safe than sorry and sure hope when they get home they find everything in order.  It seems Wilmington was an area hit very hard and it may be awhile before the electricity can be restored.  I have been to Wilmington one time for the Seniornet Convention many years ago and it is indeed a beautiful city. There seem to have been quite a few people who stayed and then had to be rescued as it was worse conditions than they expected.

Patricia, glad those little kittens healed up and are being adopted.

Mary Ann

Larry, I'm sure Tom's participation in the graveside service was simple.  I also know he can pray at the drop of a hat and it was strictly a family affair.  The trolley was an added touch, something I think Uncle Norm would have enjoyed.

Dot is going to church this morning, but I am not.  I called her about 8:30 because she had not called me and she said she had some aches and pains but thought by 9:30 they's be gone - she hoped.  She is able to sit in a comfortable chair at church but hoped she'd be able to sit in a pew this morning.  I'll find out later how that went.

We are to be in the 80s today and it is 72 now.  I have the hurricane on the TV but muted.  I think nothing new is going on.  I'm glad to hear from you, Larry, that the Augusta area is missing the heavy rain and wind.  Reports are that because of the slowness of the hurricane that the flooding will increase with water coming from several directions.

Marilyn, I hope your hand feels better today.

Joan, you seem to have had a very nice visit from Adam and his friend and her family.  And it will continue today.

Mary Ann

wjoan

Yes, it was a lovely visit and they will return today for a bit.  They live 4 hours away in OR.  Adam confided in me that he is going to ask her to marry him.  I hope she will.  She evidently comes from a well to do family.  They seem so happy together.  We will see  and of course I will let you all know.

We had very little chicken left but lots of mashed potatoes and gravy which ended up going upstairs with Candy.  She loves potatoes.  I got to keep the coleslaw which I love from KFC.  I think Dan said there was a wing and a leg left from the chicken so that will be my dinner tonight again.

Marilyne

Good Morning!  Thanks to everyone who commented on my burned fingers.  The blisters hav gone down on two fingers, but blisters are still very puffy and sore on the middle finger.  I have so much to do today, and don't know how I'm going to get everything done.  Shelley and Claire are coming tomorrow to stay for a few days, so I feel like I must get the house/bathrooms cleaned.  AJ will help, so I hope to get things presentable. I will look in here later, and say hello.  Hope y ou all have a nice Sunday.

wjoan

Had a nice Sunday.  Adam and the gal friend came by for  few hours and then he had to be at work at midnite so they left.  A great visit.  He says he is not gonna wait so long next time to come back.    Enjoyed seeing him and spending some time with him.  Tired tonight tho so am off to bed.  Not used to having company two days in a row like this.  LOL

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  The sky is clear and the sun is shiny brightly on the way to a 90 degree afternoon.  We had light rain but no wind problems yesterday afternoon and evening.  I am watching the Weather Channel and now they are having tornados and the flooding is terrible with the rainfall totals exceeding all recorded rainfall of the past.

I did make it to Sunday School and Church and then picked up something for our main meal of the day.  I wasn't very peppy yesterday and went to bed around 7:30 last evening as was aching and not enjoying being in my easy chair.  I have nothing on the schedule for today so will just take it easy and rest. I can find something to keep me as busy as I want to be.

Mary Ann, I hope Dot was able to attend Church as she wanted to do yesterday.  Glad there is a comfortable chair for her to sit in.  Pews in Churches were generally not designed for people with any back issues.  I know your Church pews are uncomfortable for Pat but she tolerates them and our Sunday School chairs are just folding chairs and we have several people who attend with back problems.  We often see cushion brought in to go behind backs.  I don't look for Pat to probably ever attend our Sunday School on a regular basis again as the two hours of sitting involved in that and then Church is just too painful for her.

Joan, glad to read you had such an enjoyable time with Adam and the others and that the second visit yesterday was equally as enjoyable.  I have always liked the KFC coleslaw but would pass on mashed potatoes and gravy every time in favor of the coleslaw. When our routine is changed it can be tiring but still very enjoyable.

Marilyne, I hope you were able to get done yesterday what needed to be done and if you didn't I just bet it will be waiting for you today.  I am glad that AJ is able to help you and I also bet that Shelley and Claire would understand if not everything you wanted to get done was completed.  I expect they are coming to see you and AJ and not inspect your house.

Marilyne

Good morning Larry:  Looks like we're the only ones who are up this morning.  It's only about 7:20 here, so already close to 10:30 on the East Coast. Not much activity here the past few days, so I hope things pick up today.

This morning I received a nice email from Joy, who posts here and also in Soda Shoppe.  I had written to her last week, because she hadn't posted in S&F in about a month, and I had a feeling that something was wrong.   She has been ill, and in the hospital with a couple of serious health issues . . . then was in rehab for almost two weeks.  She is now feeling much better, and hopes to soon be back with us here in S&F.

Larry, Dot did go to church yesterday and sat in one of the comfortable chairs instead of a pew.  We do have pads available for both back and seat and I've used one to sit on but when she sat with me, Dot used two of them.  We have quite a few people who use them.

I just turned on the Weather Channel and I can see it is the calm before the storm - at least by what they say.  I was glad to see the storm bands left your area, Larry, so I think you are safe from future rains but North Carolina seems to be getting the brunt of what is left.

Maybe Wednesday, we will get some rain, possibly a storm.  I think it will be an edge of Florence but we will not get what the Carolinas have had.

I did not go to church with Dot yesterday and Tom wasn't here, so I did a bit of everything - sat on the deck, computed, napped, ate - some more than once.  Kendrick was with me part of the time, but he liked it inside where it was air conditioned.  I'll have to get back into my Sunday routine next week.

Marilyn, I'm sorry to hear about Joy; I know she has been ill lately, but I think she had not been in the hospital at that time.  That's what happens when we get older!  I'll look for her return, hopefully soon.

Good afternoon, it is and in and out day humidity 99, but the temp.is in the middle 70's

Marilyne, thanks for letting us know about Joy.  How is your hand?

Larry, I  carry a small pillow to put at my back. I also like KFC
coleslaw, I sometimes buy a large container of it when I go to a BBQ Our church is so small, when they have a dinner or luncheon they turn the pews sideways for setting. It is a Luth. chr.

Joan, senor moment/ I forgot if I answered you yesterday.  I am happy to read that you had such a nice visit with Adam.  I also send out for a bucket of chicken, when I have company

I was very surprised to find an e-mail from Marilyne when I finally got around to reading all my e-mails.  Have over 1,000 to go through and have just started.

Yes, I was in the hospital for a week and in a rehab center for 9 days.   Long story to go into now.  I can't sit too long at the computer as my ankles and legs swell up.

On Wed. Aug. 29 I was feeling so nauseous  and week from the  medicine I was taking for the UTI's so I knew I had to do something.  Went by ambulance to the ER and I was a very sick gal.  The infection was almost to the sepsis stage.  Plus, some heart problems showed up very unexpectedly.  Had never had any heart problems before. ER doctor said it could have developed from the infection.  Was started on antibiotics by IV and was on that for several days.  Started feeling better very quickly.  And, also was put on oxygen.  Went to a rehab place on Wed. Sept. 5 and came home on Friday the 14th.  Had both physical therapy and occupational therapy while I was there.  I improved quickly rapidly and am continuing to get home care for both OT and PT for a month.  And, then will be re-evaluated.  I am doing quite well and just have to try to get my strength back and most of all, I have to be careful of falling.  I have had difficulty walking for a long time and have to  use a walker, but I just have to take my time and go slow.

I also had an e-mail from Jane, which I will answer when I get done here.

I can't thank you all enough for thinking of me and missing me.  I have missed being here, also.  It is really amazing how this group can be so caring , when  most of us have never or will never ever meet.  But, you all are such good friends from every part of the world.

Thank you again for all your caring !!   I am just overwhelmed.

Not sure how often I can get in here.  I will have some kind of home therapy every single day. Today there were 2 people here.  So, I will try very hard to just stop by to say Hi ! and let you all know I am ok.

I did want to add that I was taken off the oxygen the first day at the rehab center and don't need it at all now.  I have a little oxygen checker and sometimes when I am doing something to exert myself, it will drop, but comes back up almost immediately. The nurse is pleased with my vitals so far.  Just have to keep my legs elevated when I am sitting.

Thanks again.

Joy, it is so good to hear from you.  We do miss our friends when we don't hear from them for a few days.

I hope you have not been affected by the hurricane and it sounds as if you have not.

You seem to be recovering slowly but surely, so keep it up.

Mary Ann

angelface555

The last two kittens, one seeing only light and shadow and the one with one blind and one good eye were adopted together about an hour ago from one of the shelter's kitten rooms. So all have found homes!

angelface555

Joy, so happy to see you are better and back with us again, you were missed!

Hi Everyone.  We are to have a sunny day with a high of 93 degrees.  We did get some rain late last night.  I didn't sleep well at last as woke up at 1:30 and never could go back to sleep.  I got up around 2:30 for a couple of hours and then laid back down but couldn't fall asleep.  There are only two things on the schedule for today.  I do have someone coming to the house at 10 this morning to work with me for an hour.  Then Pat and I plan on going to Ruby Tuesday's for our main meal today as it is National Cheeseburger Day and so today and tomorrow they are offering a free cheeseburger when a regular entree is ordered.  I think the rest of the day will be free so will be able to get some rest this afternoon and hopefully sleep tonight.  Nothing to write about in terms of things done yesterday.  It was just a quiet day although I did finish listening to another John Grisham novel and started another one that I hope is as good.

Marilyne, thanks for checking on Joy and passing on the information.  I see she did leave us a posting later in the day yesterday.

Mary Ann, we have padded seats in our Church pews but no padded backs and I don't think the Church has any pads for people to use for their backs.  They just have to bring their own, something Pat has done a couple of times as those tote bags come in handy.  You are right in that North Carolina continued to get slammed yesterday and the flood waters are terrible.  They are continuing to rescue people.

deAngel, I have a friend who is a retired Lutheran minister.  The pews in our Church are anchored to the floor so could not be easily turned around.  However, this is one of the larger Churches in South Carolina and we have a very nice and large Fellowship Hall that is used for our contemporary service and then for our Wednesday night and other dinners and events.

Joy, thanks for giving us some details and sure good news to read you got to the ER in time and got the help you needed.  You had mentioned several times not feeling well.  Was sorry that some heart problems have now appeared but they have some really good medicines anymore. I don't think I have ever been hospitalized with my heart that I wasn't immediately put on oxygen.  Glad you didn't have to continue it at rehab as that would have been an added complication to deal with.  Glad you were helped by the OT and PT.
You have probably told us in the past but do you have an emergency alert button that you can keep with you at all times.  While we hope to hear from you that you are OK the important thing and first priority is taking care of yourself.

Patricia, glad the little kitchens have now all found homes.  I guess the man will soon have a new batch of kitchens to foster for a few weeks.

Joy

Good morning.  I am up and moving around.   Not quite   "at em" yet, but getting there.

Thanks, again for all your encouraging and get well messages.  You all can't imagine how touched I am with all your nice comments.

Yes, Larry, I do have a medical alert button.  I am also going to look into the one that will detect falls.  They keep calling me about getting that,

I have a nurse coming at 10, so I need to finish my breakfast, take my meds and get dressed.  Not sure if anyone else is coming today.  The nurse did tell me that she will not be making me do any work.  LOL  The PT and OT really work you out.

Jane, I will get back to the e-mail you sent me.  I was reading it at 3 a.m.  Fell asleep early and was wide awake at 3,  I ate a little piece of apple pie and read some of the e-mails.  Did go back to sleep and slept until 7,

Hope everyone will have a good day. I will try to get back later in the day.  I can't sit too long at the computer,

Sandy

Good Morning Everyone from the cool,
but muggy (rain=high humidity) rocky
coast of Maine.

Welcome back JOY!!

I ordered my tall drive Rollator:

https://smile.amazon.com/Drive-Medical-RTL10266-T-Walker-Rollator/dp/B00QFYS3TK/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1537271970&sr=8-1&keywords=drive+rollator+tall

from Amazon and somehow it got shipped
from Georgia to California...    I spoke with
the sellers and they are sending one to me.
At least that is what they say that they
are doing.    We shall see.
Amazon had the best price and the shipping
was free...  I will know more when it finally
arrives at my door.

Otherwise all is well... cept the muggy weather,
but I shall not complain too loudly,  as
the fall temperature are beginning to
arrive and they feel soooo good.

Wishing everyone a good day.
Sandy

Sandy, does your "tall Drive Rollator" mean you are tall?  I can see the day coming that I will need a rollator, but other things are getting in the way - such as a counter-top microwave because there are certain things I cannot remove from the "over the stove" microwave.

Today was haircut day and we had breakfast at the restaurant next door when I was finished - a routine for haircut day.  I look so nice for a day or two, but after the second week or so, I look like I am growing a haystack.

It's good to see a message from Joy.

Good morning from the Interior. This is the second day with white skies, not really clouds per se but the actual sky is white. We're to get rain again this evening, so we'll see how it goes. Some type of hawk briefly landed on the balcony rail yesterday afternoon, and Farrah was literally walking on air to get to the bathroom...

I was supposed to go out and get errands done yesterday but started late and left it to today, anyway, that will be my day today, and I'm hoping Joy especially, and everyone has a great day!

MarsGal

Well, I hope this is the end of the rainy, muggy weather. The last remnants of Florence are passing through today. In fact, I see some sun trying to peak through the clouds now. Maybe I can get out tomorrow and mow the front yard tomorrow.

Looking for something to do on Saturday? I just ran across this item. September 22 is Free Ticket day to a bunch of participating museums around the country. Sponsored by Smithsonian, here is the link to check on participating museums in your area. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/museum-day-2018/

Lindancer

Good afternoon, we are having expected rain and wind.

Patricia, Taffy gets excited when she sees seagull in the winter time. I also have one lone ravan, that is almost as large as the sea gull use to have a pair.

Joy, I have a panic button, that I have use 3 times, the police are here within min. then the ambulance

Sandy, I have seen that tall rollator on TV, but it might be to tall for me I am now 4.10

Larry, I learn the hard way when I went to the church, I nearly pulled the pew over the first time I stood up, was use to grabbing the back of the pew to pull myself up. When I first moved to Riverhead every Sunday I would drive half hour to Southampton my old church, then I met a lady in Homemakers who ask me to join her church right here in Mattituck, I called it a cute church,  capacity is 100. Sunday school is in the basement. Very country, with and old fashion organ, by today's standards.

Marilyne

We have a houseful here, with daughter and gr-daughter staying for a few days.  Sandy will be over later this afternoon, and we'll all go out for dinner tonight. We'll likely do a little shopping today . . . Claire needs some new shoes, and has to have a good fit, as she has some foot problems.  So we'll likely go to a few of the nicer shoes stores, and I'll buy them for her.

I wanted to watch the Emmy Awards last night, but just too much going on around here. I see in the paper this morning, that some of my favorites won awards, which I think were well deserved!  I'll have to look at the Television folder next, and see if anyone posted any comments?

MarsGal - The museum link looks good. I'll take a better look later, when I have more time. I haven't been to a museum in years, and would love go again before I get too old.

Gloria de - You asked about my burned fingers .. . much better today!  Yesterday I kept the bandages on again, but this morning I'm going to try to go without, except for one Band-Aid.

Joy - good to see you back with us again.  Hope you're feeling stronger today.

Joy, I had noticed you weren’t posting and am so glad you had good medical care and are so much better.

Larry, hope you have a better night.  I have a problem sleeping if I have anything with caffeine in the afternoon or later so I usually stick with a cup of coffee in the morning and non-caffeine fluids the rest of the day.

Glad that everyone seems OK.  Patricia, I would say enjoy your day out, but it sounds too much like work.  I don’t enjoy shopping at all.

Marilyne, I’m glad you contacted Joy.  I don’t envy you your shopping trip but hope it is successful.  I’m sure your granddaughter will appreciate your help.  By the way, glad your hand is better.  Burns are so painful.

Joy

Just stopping by to thank everyone for all your nice "welcome back" messages.   I am still overwhelmed at all the care and concern there is within our "little community".  Sure does make me feel good.

Have a good evening.

Joy

I finished with all but one of my errands, so here I am. It drizzled more than rained but as it's only 5:53 PM that could change. I had to deposit from one account to another as well as go to the print shop before looking for something across town so it was a round of walking, waiting, riding buses and wasting time I could have spent at home. Two items I needed to send off for returns had to wait because I messed up so that will be another day, perhaps this weekend.

This is pure drudgery, in my opinion, I do so much better to orchestrate it from my computer!

angelface555

Did you know that Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest have been married for 33 years? I bring this up because I read an article about her alcoholic recovery of over twenty years ago. What she repeated is something we all can use in many of our own situations no matter the cause.

"Don't leave. There's a recovery phase that says, 'Stay on the bus...the scenery will change.' You think you're having a bad week but stay on the bus, because one of these days you'll look out of the window and it will be beautiful. I think it can apply to anything where you feel unhappy at that moment. I'm not a wild romantic.I'm a realist. And I respect him. And I just don't leave."

"Stay on the bus" is an excellent mantra.
