Mary Ann, me too.  Tis a step in the right direction.

FlaJean

Joan, I know it is a relief for Candy to finally get a doctor to explain her MRI.  I also have a problem with cysts but thankfully they have been benignâ€"-so far anyway.  Hopefully she will now have routine visits and they will keep an eye on the problems she is having.

wjoan

FlaJean, thanks.  I also hope this is a turning point for Candy.  She has been in pain for over 8 months now

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  This morning started out at 65 degrees here but will again climb into the low 90's this afternoon.  I would like to attend my Saturday meeting this morning but will have to find a little more energy before that time or I will be staying home.

I really wore myself out yesterday.  When I got to the doctor's office parking garage I had to park quite a distance from the stairs that go into the office building and then up a long hallway into another building.  I had to wait an hour beyond my appointment time to get my pacemaker checked.  Everything was fine with it.  Then I had to make the trek back to the car.  I stopped at Costco, which was on the way home, and ate a bite of lunch at the little snack bar they have.  When I got there are of the riding carts were in use and I decided I was just too tired to walk that big store to get what I needed and that I would just come on home and shop another day.  However, when I went outside there were two riding carts available so I got one and was quickly and easily able to do the shopping.  As I was unloading the items into the truck a nice Costco employee said he would take the cart back up the doorway where the carts are kept (I expect that is the only time he is allowed to sit down).  By the time I got the items unloaded and into the house I was beyond ready to lay down.

I plan on watching some football and probably some of the golf this afternoon.

Sandy, Pat found an inexpensive walker that has a braking ability by pushing down on the hand grips and has a seat.  It has the weight capacity needed and the handle bars adjust to the height needed. It weighs only 12 pounds so will be easier to get into and out of the car. It was about $40 so she went ahead and ordered it yesterday afternoon and it is to be here tomorrow. We decided to not ask the doctor for a prescription for a Rollator until later.  I do hope this works for her for at least awhile.  We will leave it in the car.

Mary Ann, there is still a lot of golf to be played today and tomorrow and it only takes a few bad shots like one into that lake they have to get across to get to the rather small green to lose ground and cause a change in the leader board. It sounds like Tom's lady friend has some serious mental type problems.

Marilyne, my wife and I are have quite different personality traits and guess we are a "opposites attract" type of couple. It has worked for us.

deAngel, sorry that you weren't able to attend your Homemakers group after getting all ready.  What will you be teaching next week?  I hope that shot brings your blood count back up for you.  I just checked and I walked over 2,200 steps yesterday, which is the most I have walked in a day for a long time.  Two thousand steps is considered a mile although that isn't true for me as I now take much shorter steps but it still was close to a mile in actual distance.

Patricia, having two people married with both being Type A personalities must create some interesting times.  We had no middle sibling in our family, just me and my 3 year younger sister.

Joan, certainly glad that Candy went to another doctor and he told her what the problem was.  Are they going to try to address it as it does sound serious.  I thought the sores had healed up.  Are they related to the cysts?

Joy

Good morning. Looks like a very pretty day today.  Bright blue sky and just a little breeze.

I have the week end free from any nurse or PT visits.  That will be nice.  I have a lot of things that I would like to do, but not sure what I will finally decide on.  I have an grocery order in and my son or DIL will pick it up tomorrow.  I did get the fridge cleaned out the other night, but still need to go through the freezer. I might try to get that done this morning.

I am still very careful of not doing too much at a time.  I have one of those little oxygen monitors, and I do check it periodically.  Especially when I am doing something other than just sitting.  And, it seems to remain stable.

Larry, my DIL did get me another smaller walker and will bring it up over the week end.  She can return it if I am not comfortable with it.  But, she seemed to think it will work a lot better than the one I am using.  The one I have is just a little too big.  I just didn't even notice that it was for a larger person when I bought it.  The one she has gotten was more expensive than others, but I just didn't want to take the time to wait to get a RX from the doctor.  That can take so long sometimes.  I don't spend much money on myself, so I will just pay for it myself.   I think she said the name of it was ""DRIVE".  She knew about what I was looking for.

Hope your day today won't be as tiring for you as yesterday.  I had been so tired for so long, that I can hardly believe how good I feel now.  I keep waiting for that "tired" feeling to come back, but it hasn't so far.  I sure hope I will continue to feel as good as I do right now.  I have more energy than I have had for a while.  And , it is a good feeling.   I just have to still pace myself a little, tho. and try not to rush doing things.

Joan, I am so glad that your daughter is finally get some good information for what she has been dealing with. I know how frustrating that kind of situation can be.  Sure hope it will be a quick fix for her.  It has been going on too long.

I need to get off the computer for a while.

Have a great day.

Larry, I am unable to answer your questions.  All I can say is that the cysts must be removed by surgery.
Thanks Joy, it has bveen hard on all of us and we are glad she found a Dr. who would give her the results of these tests.
She is scheduled for a colonoscopy  soon <Tues> and that may shed even more light.  Who knows?

Marilyne

Joy - Good to see you checking in, and glad that you're feeling so much better.  Maybe you will inspire me to clean out my fridge today?  I have a side by side style, so the freezer in along the left side. I don't have a lot of food stored on either side, but all the racks are a mess, and in need of cleaning, as well as the two veggie and storage bins on the bottom of the fridge.  Other than that, I don't plan to do anything else today, in the way of housework.

Joan - I can see that Candy's doc would want her to have a colonoscopy, just to check everything out.  The good thing about that test, is that the doctor gives you the results immediately,  as soon as he's finished . . . so you don't have to wait around in hopes of someone calling you.
Like FlaJean, I've also had a long history of cysts.  Fortunately, mine have all been benign as well.

Mary Ann - I wish AJ liked to take the scenic route, when we drive somewhere. He gets on the nearest freeway or expressway, (of which there are many), and gets to our destination ASAP, and then home the same way. When I'm driving, I like to take the leisurely route . . .  I don't care how long it takes me.  Freeways are very stressful for me, even when I'm not driving.  So many cars, going at high speeds and weaving in and out, etc.  Definitely not a pleasant, relaxing experience.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I drove to Indianapolis alone for many years, even when my cousin was still alive and afterward when Jim and I were together.  At first I drove I-96 to I-69 as I-96 had a ramp near here and I-69 ended near where they lived.  It took me 5 1/2 hours with a pit stop in the middle.  I had to drive at least 70+ mph and it definitely was not relaxing.  One time I decided to go on the Indiana state roads, so I took US-131 (also a ramp near here) to my pit stop, then US-131 became IN-13 and I took that to I-69.  It took 5 1/2 hours, the same as the Interstate but was much more scenic.  I had to slow down for towns and could go around 60 mph.  I got to know northern Indiana and until I decided I should not be driving that distance alone, I drove that route.  In 2008 I decided I would not drive down there any longer and flew a few times until Tom said he'd take me to Merrillville IN if Indps Tom would meet us there.  That worked well and I will use the two Toms as long as my health and their willingness holds out.

Mary Ann

wjoan

Marilyne, one of the cysts previously removed from Candy some years ago was the size of a baby's head.  Huge puppy.  I have only had one in my whole life and I took care of it as it on the outside.

Good afternoon, cool sunny day. a day I like

Larry, I am teaching how to make napkin holders for the holidays hard to describe but it is a cut out flower in choice of color. three pieces holder, leaf and flower. very simple
guess I will be watching golf the PM.

Patricia, my sons were obsite Mark would never have made the Pleb system at the
Citadel. But Mark like to go hunting in the Fall and Dennis could not handle that.

Joan, I am so pleased to read your daughter is getting some answers.

Mary Ann, the computer took away a lot of things I use to do,  I very seldom played the organ or painted once I found out the fu I could Have on the PC

Marilyne, my husband would never take the long way around. All the years we drove to Charleston to visit his parents we would pack the kids (no seatbelts then) and suitcases leave at 2AM so to miss NYC, stop  in NJ for breakfast then stop . at the boarder of NC  Welcome center sleep for 2 hrs. refresh and we were on our way to Charleston, so he could brag to his brother how fast we got through NY, Baltimore and Wash.DC..By the way he was a big hockey fan

You know, Jim was that way too, probably from his years of traveling the State for the State.  When I started driving south with him, he wanted to go through Atlanta and that first time we ran into a terrible rain storm.  I got in on the tail end of that rain and I decided if I could handle that, I could handle any traffic.  I finally convinced him we should take I-65 from Indps well into Alabama and we took that route in both directions until we didn't drive down there any more.  I'm all for avoiding heavy traffic if I can, but I do have the patience to go with the flow if I have to.  Fortunately, I don't have to any more.

Good morning, from a still SODDEN Interior! I expect to see snow very soon as a wind blew in Thursday afternoon and the leaves are tumbling down. This morning was interesting from my balcony on the world. I minded my own business when a plane type engine kept intruding, seemingly in one place, not moving as you'd expect.

I looked out and finally to my surprise, spotted a black helicopter hovering on top of Murphy Dome, (air force base near there); just above some fog. It kept going down and then back up through the mist as if trying to find its way. Finally, it went down and stayed down. The engine shutoff and its been a bit of time so I suppose it's staying awhile. I'm noisy, so was curious about what that was?

I  heard it again, and nosy me went and watched it rise, go down, come back up, point one way and then another, and go up and down a few times before heading back down again. The mist/fog has gotten very thick over the foothill, so I'm assuming military training? I thought I glimpsed a cable going down from the copter but wasn't sure but don't think it was medical.

Larry, they are strong but giving people, but yes they both tend to be extreme at times. Perhaps because they're involved in different interests it preserves their long marriage. Plus neither one is shy about admitting and apologizing to the other. They were divorced for two years a very long time ago and then remarried, so I'm sure there were some changes made.

Joy, I'm so glad you're back and doing so well! It sounds as if you skipped a bad one and are rewarded. I remember an old family saying on how "patience wins the race." and it looks as if you follow that one too.

MaryAnn, reading your posts reminded me how no one in the state calls highways by their assigned numbers. While almost all were named after military figures, one or two were named after one of the earlier roadhouses. Perhaps that is why names are used rather than their numbers as is done in the lower 48.

Joan, with that family history, I wonder why no one looked at that or at least discussed it with Candy? I'm glad she's now being listened to and helped.

Gloria, I have a few relatives and ancestors who made it through West Point. In many ways, the military then as now provided a different life. My mother and daughter were crafty but that gene took one look at me and skipped right over to the next generation!  :D  Both of my husbands and especially my father was like that on trips, no unassigned stops or bathroom breaks allowed!  :-\  No one drank until we reached our destination.

MaryAnn, I would love to go traveling but as I'm unable to drive, I usually pay for all the gas needed. I remember asking my first husband to take more backroads and he didn't hesitate to point out how tiring a long drive was with just one driver. So I just went with the flow.

wjoan

Angel, we are not from WA State all those medical records are in CA.  Her and I have discussed it but without them showing up in tests we had no idea what was going on.

Marilyne

Mary Ann - In ten more years I hope I have the ability, the energy, and the desire, to get around, like you do.  I admire the fact that you still go to Indianapolis every year to visit with your relatives there. Also, it's wonderful that you're always willing to go to Holland, for a family event of some sort, or just to spend some time with the twins.  I'm glad you have Tom, and Dot, so you can go out for lunch, brunch or dinner whenever you have the opportunity.

Gloria de - I admire you too, when I read about all the things that you during the week.  Still belonging to the Red Hat's is good, and gives you a change of pace and some fun times away from your house.  Also, I see that you are teaching a group on how to make napkin holders.  I know you like to do crafts, and so nice to teach others on how to do those things.  I wish I could sit in on one of your classes, and learn something like that.

angelface555

Joan, I don't know if this is available in other states, but in Alaska, you have the legal right to go to the business office of any hospital, clinic or doctors office, medical, dental, etc. and within two weeks, be able to receive by mail, your personal medical records. Of course, all the personal comments by medical staff are redacted, but all medical info is required by law to be included.

I was able to get copies of my records from Colorado through the hospital here having them in their records, but not the ones from Knoxville. The local hospital could request them and then turn them over to me, but I declined at that time. This service may be available to you and Candy. I don't know if it is an Alaskan law or countrywide.

Mary Ann

Thank you, Marilyn.  I can only travel if others are willing and/or available to take me.  Dot is still driving at 88 but she has been in much pain recently due to a sciatic nerve disease.  As a result, we are not going to church tomorrow.  Our church is starting an Adult Sunday School class and I called Dot to see if she would be attending the class (I will not).  If she goes to the class, which starts at 9 am, with church beginning at 10 am, i will have Tom take me to church and I will come home with Dot and probably going to the Cholesterol Pit.  But if she doesn't go, I don't go!  So my travels are dependent on others.

You bet, I go to Holland whenever Tom suggests it, however, many times he goes there, it is for a meeting or special reason, then I cannot go.  I would like to see the twins more often so they might remember me after I'm gone.  They grow so rapidly.

I wrote a long piece earlier after Patricia wrote that highways in Alaska have names rather than number and my computer chose not to post it and by the time I got back to copy the post, it wasn't there.  And I decided to not write it again.

I think Gloria de does well, really better than I do.  Gloria, you are so active what with Red Hats and Homemakers.  My only outside activity is meeting my company retiree friends and we only get together in the summer and I doubt we'll see each other again until May 2019.

A quick good morning on what is supposed to be a rainy day !  Just what we need..... More rain!

I will be back later and re-read the previous messages.  My DIL is coming to help me with a few things, and she is bringing the new rollator walker that she got for me. I hope it is one that I am comfortable with.

I still need to get dressed.

Patricia, thanks for your well wishes.  And, yes, I am feeling so much better.  Just have to learn to take my time and not try to rush things.  That last thing I want to do is to fall.  I am hoping the new rollator will be a little easier to maneuver around with, especially in the kitchen.

Have a great day.

Hi Everyone.  It is another bright and sunny Sunday morning on this first full day of Fall.  Our high today is suppose to get to 88 so maybe we will finally see a break in the 90+ degree days.  I stayed home all day yesterday as wasn't feeling very good.  I had a several hour spell where I was wheezing and coughing and then around dinner time it went away and I was fine all evening. I did have quite a bit of angina yesterday.  However, even after more than 9 hours of sleep last night I am still tired and am seriously considering not trying to go to Church this morning.  I hate to miss Church but I think I just need a day of rest.

Joy, glad you can monitor your oxygen and you are wise to not overdo at one time.  We are to get the new walker Pat ordered today.  I sure hope it works out but if not will be able to return it as she bought it through Amazon and they make it very easy return.  Unless there is something wrong with it we will have to pay the return postage but so be it.  I hope you will like your new smaller walker.  We are not going to try to get any reimbursement on the walker as it isn't very expensive and because if it doesn't work we will have to get a more expensive one and then will seek a prescription from the doctor.  We have looked at a lot of those "Drive" walkers.  As I wrote above, yesterday was not a good day for me but am hoping there will be no repeat of it today.

Joan, I understand you don't have answers as to what they will do for Candy and I shouldn't have even asked. Sometimes I get too noisy and so I hope all will just ignore me when I do.  Glad to see she is having further tests.

Marilyne, we have a side-by-side refrigerator and freezer but find it difficult to find things in the freezer and the shelves are not very wide.  We are already enjoying the chest freezer.  Last night Pat got out one of the Lasagna's I had gotten at Costco and was it ever good.  We are going to be able to have several meals from it.  This was the one in the frozen food section.  Have you tried it.  I also got one from the meat department and we will have it one of these days.  We are fortunate here that most of our driving doesn't involve our one Interstate Highway, i.e. I-20 and if we get on it the trip won't be more than 10 or 15 minutes.

Mary Ann, when we were still taking car trips we sometimes took the back way, often the roads ran side by side with the Interstate.  The trip we took to Ann Arbor to visit my cousin and wife took us through a lot of non-Interstate roads.  I can still drive in heavy traffic but like to leave a good space in front of me and the car ahead and don't like drivers getting too close to me from behind.

deAngel, the napkin holders sound nice.  Since we don't often have dinner guests anymore, except for family, we stay very casual and don't use the fine china or napkin rings.  I did watch some of the golf yesterday and will watch some more later this afternoon. Tiger was on a rampage yesterday.  It will be interesting to see if he can hold on to that lead.

Patricia, Maybe your experience with the helicopter was a training exercise or something like that.  I see you came to the same conclusion.  On occasion we hear a helicopter for a plane go over.  We are several miles from the Augusta airport and fortunately not in the usual flight path.

Sandy

Good Morning Everyone,
from the cool and Fall like,  rocky coast of Maine.

My kind of day.

Joy,  I am glad that you are feeling better...
Larry,  I hope that the day takes a good turn for
you...   You seem to handle the very hot and humid
days in South Carolina very well.   I have a very
limited range of temperatures that I find comfortable
both Summer and Winter here in Maine.

As a child,  we made do with one pipe
furnaces (in and eleven room farm house)
and never had any air conditioning....
So today allows me to manage living with
colder Winters and more hot and humid
Summers.       (Thank heavens for technology!! )

Have a good Sunday,  Everyone.
Golf this after noon....  Tiger seems
to be on a roll...  :dontknow:

Good morning. There is a lot of frosts and blown leaves about, and those white skies have taken up seemingly permanent residence here. It's 46 degrees here at 6:16 AM with only a high of 48 expected. Your first day of fall may very well be our first day of snow.

Other than about 45 days of 80 and above, this has been a very wet and dank year. Last week, we had 80 to 100 percent chance of rain and next week, it's dropping to 40 to 60 percent. This type of weather pattern has been far from the norm even including the last four or five years.

Larry, we are the major shipping and transportation hub for everything north of Anchorage, a little over 6200,268 square miles with planes, trains, trucks, barges, and riverboats hauling supplies hither and yon for the Interior and northern portions of the state.  We have had since the early nineteen hundreds, a strong military presence. I have seen medical copters, personal copters, and military copters often. However, they were always going somewhere.

This incident was the first time I've seen one stay primarily in one spot and a time or two hang motionless. It certainly caught my attention due to it being directly in front of me visually. One time it rose out of the fog bank, up over the ridge, turned the nose to the left, then to the right, go right a bit, turn to the left and then return to where it had been before dropping back below the fog. It was doing this for over an hour.

The airport flight path is just to the right of my building before circling north, past the mountains, so we often have the passenger and private planes passing overhead or trains circling across the river. But the military fighter jets usually stay further east of us. It was a time before I remembered the air force base by Murphy Dome. And there was nothing about it on the local news which there would have been had it been a rescue. I admit it made me curious especially with no news mention of the unusual, to me, behavior.

Marilyne

The first day of Fall here, looks like it's going to be medium warm and breezy . . . then heading for a major heat wave starting on Tuesday.  Supposed to hit 100 degrees on Wednesday.  Not unusual for this time of year, but now it's a concern because of the possibility of wildfires.

Mary Ann - I hope that Dot is feeling well enough to go to church with you today, and then on to the Cholesterol Pit?

Patricia - same applies here in CA, as to our medical records.  We can have access to them personally, or we can have them sent directly to a new doctor.  I'm pretty sure that Candy's new doctor in WA, can send a fax to the doctor who performed her surgery in CA, and they will send all the information, results, records, etc.

Larry - I hope you begin to feel better as the day moves along.  You always attend church, so it's worrisome if you are not feeling well enough to go today?  Enjoy relaxing and watching  golf, and maybe some football.
AJ doesn't watch Pro-football at all anymore, but he does like college football, and watches or records the games every Saturday.  His favorite teams are Stanford, the two Oregon Universities, and LSU.  Our granddaughter attended LSU for four years, and graduated last year, so that's why he follows that team. We both attended San Jose State U, so of course we always watch those games, and hope that some day we will see them go to the Rose Bowl.  Not very likely, but we can dream! ha ha

FlaJean

When we moved here in March 2016, it took me a couple weeks to look around for a new doctor.  I have BP so have to take medication.  The doctor’s office sent for my records before my first visit.  My ophthalmologist gave me my records to bring with me as he knew I was moving.  Even ‘tho this is a small area,  there are plenty of convenient and good medical services here.  I go to the local hospital for my routine lab tests and the doctor’s office has them posted in my online “Health Portal” before my visit.  I haven’t heard of any doctors in this area who don’t take Medicare and supplemental policies.  I really feel fortunate as good medical services are so important as you age.

Mary Ann

Other than having warmer than usual summers, our weather patterns have been rather consistent.  We've always had hot days in the summer, just not as many as we've had the past couple of years.

Marilyn, I've heard of a lot of people (usually men) who prefer the college football games to the pros.  I have an idea it has to do with the violence in the pro games.  I always look at the scores of the UofM, MSU and Detroit Lions to see how they did (Detroit Tigers, too) but I do not watch the games.

I checked with Dot yesterday and she felt she was unable to go to church this morning so we did not go to church.  About 10 am I had a call from Tom's former wife asking if I was available for brunch.  She had left a message for Dot but Dot did not recognize Sue's new name, so did not answer the phone.  I called Dot and she really did not feel like going out, so she did not.  Sue, Annie and I went to the Blue Water Grill for brunch and had a very nice visit and brunch.  Sue paid.  We talked a long time and it really was very enjoyable.  Sue's present husband has more money than Tom had so I think she feels more comfortable than when with Tom and she had to think before she bought.  I think she's learned a few things, too, which she didn't know when she and Tom were married.  Both are happy and I'm happy for both of them.

Dot thinks the Adult Sunday School will start next week and it won't matter to me because I don't intend to go and if Dot does go to the class, Tom will take me to church and I will come home with Dot.

It's a lovely sunny day, about 70+ degrees.  Tom just came home from his church and may be napping and may go to Holland later today.  I'll take a nap whether he goes or not.

I love the fall weather and would like it to contintue but I know it will not.

The only time I had medical records transferred was when one doctor retired and I had to find a new doctor.  I let the new practice request the transfer and when I'd ask my new doctor if such-and-such was included, he'd look and not find it.  This was early in the 2000s and I found the transfer very unsatisfactory.  I belong to the hospital's MyHealth and can get information on any of my visits, which I like.

Sandy, I grew up in a home with a gravity-heat furnace and no air conditioning.  That was the way of life back then.  We spent many a hot day in the summer.  In fact, for a few years, we didn't have a/c at work either.  We coped and made it through the season.  Winter was better because Dad would stoke the furnace before school and the house would be warm when we got home from wherever.  Dad did have the house insulated good a few years before he died but that didn't help the lack of a/c.  I did not have an a/c until I moved to this condo in 1981.  I do not think it hurt me at all!!!

Mary Ann

Lindancer

Mary Ann, we lived here 3 years before we got A/C. Never had it before, and I lived in Charleston a few years and there it really got hot. We just had fans, and a porch swing were we sat a lot in the summer. My husband even proposed to me on that swing :)

Larry, hope you are feeling better. The napkin holders I teach are made of felt and good for seasonal use.
