Mary Ann,   2 Harbor cams (New York Harbor and Port New York) are with PSTV, stream, and are fine.   Harbor View and the one from the Statue of Liberty are with Earth cam. They don't stream and also o.k.
Times Square Street cam, which doesn't stream, works sometimes.  Times Square Pedestrian View isn't working at all.

With the PSTV cams,  I can scroll down and click to get "Marine View" (shows locations of various ships) and a Twitter feed.

Was watching the Port New York cam last night and saw a Disney cruise ship coming past the statue of liberty and going under the Versailles bridge.  It (she) got almost under the bridge,  then stopped and began to back up.   The "twitter" feed commented on that and then someone replied that the ship had contacted the Coast Guard for a port side medevac.
Was able to watch three smaller boats zip out to and go around the ship to the port side.  It was too dark to identify them but I assume they were from the Coast Guard.  After a while, the smaller boats came back to shore together (couldn't see where) and the ship began to move forward again.   Haven't seen any tweets as to what happened.

On the Duluth Harbor web cam choices,  what is the Wisconsin Point cam at the bottom of the list showing?  Is it the same canal we can see in the Canal cam at the top of the list?

Lindancer,  I think I have "Wild Kingdom" in my yard!   In addition to squirrels and rabbits, there's often evidencre of a skunk and sometimes an armadillo.  Have seen raccoons but not in a long time.

Lots of birds.   Four pairs of cardinals seem to be around all year.  At various times during the year, I see chickadees, titmice, Juncos, Carolina wrens, doves, three kinds of woodpeckers, ground thrush,  and 3 crows I call Heckle, Jeckle and Clyde (they always come together so the first one to arrive is Heckle, 2nd is Jeckle, etc.).
Rarely have a blue jay or a mockingbird but sometimes, a hawk will perch on the fence.  The little birds really scatter when it's around.
I see a flock of robins in the Fall and again in the Spring.

Once several years ago, I looked out to see 10 wild turkey hens in the yard and on the fence.  Apparently, there was a flock going up and down the creek on the west edge of this complex; however, they had to come about the equivalent of 2 blocks to get to my yard!
Have also seen Canada geese "marching" down the street as if they owned it!

The house finches that are here in the summer have left and the sparrows that are here in the winter have arrived.  They are hilarious to watch splashing in the bird bath.  There were 5 or 6 at one time in there this morning - plus one that sat on the edge watching the others and didn't do anything more than get its toes wet skimming across the water.

Marilyne

I went out for lunch today, then went to my hairdresser for a cut, so just arrived back home after a few hours.

Callie - The aircraft carrier isn't showing on any of my cams right now, but will probably be on again this evening, I hope.  I would have enjoyed seeing the sailors arriving back from shore leave, and then the next group leaving for a day On the Town!  Love that old musical . . . "New York, New York it's a wonderful town - The Bronx is up and The Battery's down".  Every time I hear that song, I always wonder . . . what is The Battery? :-\  I guess I can look it up?

Patricia - Yes, we have lots of Geothermal areas throughout CA.  Many of them in the desert around Palm Springs, where they have lots of earthquakes. The one nearest to me is, The Geysers, which is N/E of San Francisco. Many others near volcanic areas like around Mt Lassen and Mt. Shasta, and the Eastern part of the Sierra Nevada range.

Sandy, I think you're right about Battery Park being the Battery.  I know it is a "location", not something to charge with.

Callie, Wisconsin Point is where the Superior ships come and go.  There is no sound, but it is interesting to see  them come in.  The cam is "live" but when the tall part of the ship passes the camera, everything stops until that tall part gets beyond the camera (there's a note about it under the picture).  And, no, it is not the same canal we see at the beginning - that is the Duluth canal.  That must have been interesting watching the Disney ship. My cousin and her family took a trip on a Disney ship many years ago.

I like to see the Two Harbors locations.  When a ship is arriving or leaving, you see it better on the Depot site, but there is sometimes more activity at the Boat Launch because that is where the locals unload and load their smaller boats to go fishing out on Lake Superior.

Didn't the word Battery at one time refer to large artillery such as cannons?

All of our little bits of snow went away in the early afternoon and now the blue is edging out the greenish gray skies at 5:59 PM. So much for that "special weather report!" Altho, it may still be snow up in the foothills in those lower neighborhoods.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone. It is a cool and crisp but sunny 55 degree morning here and we are headed only to the low 60's this afternoon.  I just finished fixing Pat's breakfast and finishing up the kitchen chores and have only a few minutes before I will need to leave for Sunday School.  I think Pat will want me to come and get her for Church this morning and then we will go out to eat afterwards.  I did get to my meeting and then went to Costco, along with a lot of other people it seemed.  I am looking forward to watching some football this afternoon and that will be it for today.

I will make only limited comments today as see others have pretty much said what I would likely have written.

Joy, it sounds like you had a wonderful time with family helping to celebrate a 93rd birthday.

Mary Ann, that was a huge funeral and it sounds like you all were very wise not to go as parking must have been a terrible problem with so many in attendance.

Marilyne

Good morning everyone. :)

Larry - Saturday and Sunday are not good days to shop at Costco, here in CA.  In fact, best to not even drive by, if possible!  The parking lot is packed and people are cruising around and around, trying to secure a space.  Inside, the lines are intolerably long, the isles are crowded, babies are crying, and children are chasing each other!  It's not a pleasant shopping experience, so best to go on a weekday.

I Googled, "The Battery", and found out that yes, it is Battery Park. Wikipedia says . . . "The Battery (also commonly known as Battery Park) is a 25-acre (10 ha) public park located at the southern tip of Manhattan Island in New York City facing New York Harbor."[/u]

Mary Ann - Hope you and Dot made it to Church today, and will enjoy your lunch afterward, at The Cholesterol Pit.

That was interesting to read Marilyne, about how the land is now used and I found information about the area used as part of the area's defenses in the Civil War when the Gatling gun was originally used. " In the summer of 1862, Mack raised the 18th Independent Battery, New York Light Artillery. Captain Mack intended that his “Rochester Rifle Battery” be equipped with Requa guns, a “Rochester invention.”'

Mary Ann

Dot and I made it to church this morning.  Talking with several people who did go to the funeral Friday, there were nearer 700 people there, like high 600s.  Those of us who have been members a long time cannot remember any time that we had a funeral with so many people attending, but she was involved in so many peoples' lives - churches, schools especially.  Every available space was used for chairs and/or standing.

Larry we would not have contributed to the parking problem because Tom would have dropped us off, then picked us up again.

We have an overcast day and the temp is about 42 degrees, surely no heat wave today.

We visited Battery Park in South Carolina several years ago and there were several canons in the Park.  On the way out of Charleston we passed by Patriot Point and saw The Yorktown and in front of it was the destroyer USS Laffey.  That was the ship my husband was on when we started dating in Dec. 1955.  Of course, we had to stop and go on board.  My husband said it seemed so much smaller than he remembered.  Things do often seem different many years later.

Lindancer

Jean, I will tell you a little secret. Battery Park in Charleston, use to be like lover's lane.  During.  THE war we would go down there and park. I lived in Charleston from 1939 to 1945. After we bought my MIL's house, and retired we would spend the winter months there.

What a beautiful day it was here in Florida! Temps in the 70s and sunshine. I sat on the patio for 15 minutes just soaking up the sun. The air was great for breathing.

We went out for awhile tonight and at 65 it feels cold. The northerners always make fun of us being cold when it's in the 60s but when you're used to the 80s, it IS cold.  My daughter woke up to snow on the ground a few days ago. The ski area at Killington Mt., Vermont officially opened.

Callie - I love watching the birds. We have most of the ones you mentioned plus many cardinals, mocking birds and blue jays.  There's a female cardinal who loves taking a long bath in the birdbath.  :) When we lived in Oklahoma, there was a big Japanese magnolia tree outside my kitchen window and sometimes there would be nearly a dozen beautiful cardinals in the tree. Quite a sight! I also occasionally saw scissortail flycatchers and of course roadrunners.  Never was able to get a good picture of a scissortail but I did get a silhouette of one. Also have a picture of a hawk sitting on the edge of the birdbath!

Gloria - Cute story about parking in Battery Park during the war.  :)

Chape watched the Patriot's football game with two of his friends at Beef O'Brady's today.  They go over there when they can't get it on our TV channels. Patriots won!

I went to Home Depot today looking for outdoor lights. The ones we have are plastic and getting old. Found some I like that won't break the bank! Then I went to Publix for some
groceries.

Joy - With all you've been through lately that lunch and family party must have been a nice change.

Mary Ann - Happy to hear Dot was able to go to church this morning.

I know I'm leaving a lot of people out but this is more than I'd planned to write. I enjoy each and every post.

Good night all.

Beverly

I found the picture of the scissortail flycatcher and posted it over in Photos Then and Now.

Mary Ann

How nice to have a long message from Beverly.

I got up about 5 am, computed and went back to bed at 7 am, and just now got up again at 8:30 and I'm not fully awake, but I am up for the day.  I think I do not have an agenda for the day - no appointments, that is.

Yesterday afternoon I looked out on the deck and saw the cover was off one chair and the chair had been moved.  Tom had previously put the chairs together because of the wind.  It was the wind that moved the chair and blew off the cover.  We have the capability to anchor the covers to the furniture so I probably will go on the deck today to see if I can anchor the covers.  I don't want the covers to blow all over the neighborhood.

Mary Ann

Joy

Good morning.

I didn't get in here yesterday.  Seemed like the day just really flew by.  I had a grocery order delivered and another delivery that they  left down in the lobby.

It was a big heavy box, and I was really upset that they didn't bring it up to my apartment.  I guess these Sunday delivery people don't do that.  Anyway, one of the residents came up to tell me and he even offered to bring it up.  But, I knew what was in it and knew that it was just too heavy for him to carry.  So, I went down and since I was expecting my DIL to stop by,  I opened up the box and took out what was in it.  crumbled up all the packing material and was able to fit everything on my walker.  I waited for my DIL to come and she carried the empty box up for me.  I will break the box down and put it out in the trash room.  I will sure try to remember not to order anything that might be delivered on a Sunday.  The funny part was I had an e-mail telling me that it would be delivered today, Monday.  But, as it did turn out ok.

Beverly, yes, it really made me feel good that I was able to get out for lunch on  Friday.  And, I felt so good, and everybody thought I looked so good.  I have really been blessed to have recovered so well.  As, I don't think I realized just how sick I was.   I know that I do feel so much better.

I am getting my hair done a little later and then I plan on going to the exercise class here this afternoon.  I was up early and have done all my chores.

MaryAnn, I am happy that you and Dot were able to get to church this morning.  You didn't mention about going to eat, but hope that you did get to go.  So glad that Dot was feeling better.

Good morning to you, Marilyne,  Jean, Gloriia de and Larry.  And any of the others who I might have missed.  Hope you all have a good day.

Thanks, Joy, Dot and I did go out to eat yesterday and we had our usual Tuna Melt and cream pie.  If I don't know exactly what kind of pie we have, it is always "cream" (Dot couldn't figure it out either) and this one had some nuts in and on it.

I am planning to give the wives of two great-nephews pictures of the boys when they were young.  I have exhausted my computing reading for this morning, so when I am dressed, I will look at my exterior hard drive for pictures.  I have my family pictures for my Christmas message and I'll send those to Tom for resizing.  I've usually included a picture of me in previous years but now there are four infant/toddlers (2 to 3 years), I want my relatives to "meet" them and the rest of the family.  My relatives are all in other states and would not see them otherwise.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Hello  Mary Ann and Joy.  I'm used to seeing the first message from Larry, when I check in here every morning.  Looks like he's a little late today? He does so much, and is so busy every day, he probably is getting an earlier than usual start on his activities.

Nothing much here to report.  I think I mentioned that I went to Tuesday Morning, and bought myself a pillow.  I took it out of it's plastic zip bag last night, and discovered that it was King size!  Way too big for any of my pillow cases.  So I put it back in the bag, and will take it back today for a standard size.  I don't mind, as it will give me an excuse to spend more time in that store.  I love to look around at everything.  Any of you who have been to a Tuesday Morning, will know what I mean . . . a mini housewares department store, with quality merchandise and name brands at reasonable prices.

They were all decorated for Halloween, but also had lots of Christmas items out.  There were full sets of china in the Christmas Tree pattern, by Spode, which I love.  they also had a set by Lenox, called Holly and Ivy.  I managed to control myself, and not buy any.  I have enough dinnerware and china sets around here, to serve an army!  Even though I've given lots of it away, and sold some on eBay, I still have more than I will ever use.

Hi Everyone. Hi everyone.  For the first time this season we have our heat on in the house as it was 68 in here when we got up and we like it about 72 or 73.  Yesterday after Church we went to Firehouse Subs for our lunch and a couple from our Sunday School class came in to eat and I asked them if they were meeting anyone and since they weren't they joined us and it made such an enjoyable meal visiting with them.

It has been a busy morning and I am late coming here to read and write.  I did the kitchen chores and got Pat's breakfast.  She needed a few things to make the stew and chili she plans to make as well as some apple butter.  I needed more breakfast drink and had to replace my sunglasses as the stem broke on Saturday.  It was in the 40's outside so a jacket felt good and Walmart always seems to be cold.

When I got home I packaged up three pounds of stew meat in pound bags and also about 4 lbs of hamburger that comes from Costco in half pound pieces but each one needed to be wrapped in shrink wrap and stored in freezer bags.  Those items are now in the freezer and the mess cleaned up.  I told Pat not to expect much more out of me today as think I used up my day's supply of energy.  I may need to fix lettuce salads for us to go with the stew. which I am pretty sure she plans for our dinner tonight.

Marilyne, as you can see I did get a late start today as wanted to get things done before I sat down at my desk to read and write. Our Costco parking lot isn't as full as yours and there are plenty of spaces to park and I can usually get a handicapped spot or one fairly close.  When I have to walk to do the shopping it takes me a long time to get around as just can't walk fast anymore and it is a big store.  I sure wish they had some signs at the end of the food isles indicating what items on on those long shelves.  However, the app I have on my iPhone lets me save shopping lists and I try to remember to put down what isle I find things in and that helps until they move the merchandise around, which they seem to do fairly often.  This certainly isn't life's biggest problem. Pat mentioned just a couple of days ago that she wanted to go to Tuesday Morning's sometime this week if we both feels up to it.

Patricia, interesting info on Battery Park and its origin.

Mary Ann, glad you and Dot were up to attending Church yesterday. I had forgotten about Tom dropping you off had you attended the funeral and I would certainly hope a couple of people would have given up their seats so you two could sit.  I was really shocked yesterday morning when I came home to pick up Pat and found the heavy ceremic flower pot on its side on the little table I have in front of my office window.  I was sure glad it was on the back part of the table and hadn't fallen on the floor where it would have likely broken.  It is becoming too heavy for me to move so think I will just leave it in the alcove that is protected.

Joy, glad you were able to get your heavy package up to your apartment.  It sounds like you have a busy day today and I bet it will make you feel even better to get your hair done.

Jean, nice that you and your husband would visit the ship he had served on.  Some of today's ships are so huge that they are basically floating cities.

deAngel, was that personal experience talking when you mentioned that Battery Park in Charleston used to be a lover's lane?  :)  I have been to Charleston and don't have any plans to do so as we are no longer traveling.

Beverly, it sounds like the good weather period is starting in Florida.  Are you and Chape still playing golf? Glad Chape was able to see the Patriot's football game.  Hard to believe it is time to think about Christmas decorations.

shirleyn

Good morning to all.  We finally have some nice fall weather, it got down to 66 last night.  What a relief from the 80 's low that we had been having.

I just had to make a special trip in here today, as I was reading Larry's post & it brought to mind a question I have.  He was talking about an app on his cell phone.  I would love to have something that would allow me to download apps, but not be a phone.  Is there any such kind of an animal as this?  I do have a 'dumb' phone, which means I can make calls.  For emergencies only.  I do not use a phone a lot, but when I do, I have my house phone.  I would hate to have to spend 4 or 500 dollars or more for something to download an app.  Thanks for any help and/or suggestions.

shirleyn.

Lindancer

Good Afternoon sunny but again on the cool side. We did have frost last night

Larry ;)

Shirleyn, I am not a phone person, carry one just for emergency . Shop Rite open last week on our corner and the gave out the store plan, where everything is located which I found a big help, especially in a new store. We needed another grocery store to give Stop and Shop competition which is just across the street.

Marilyne, I too bought a new pillow, it was on sale for $29. reduced from $39. The doctor said I need to keep my head higher because of the hiatus hernia. It suppose to have copper in it.  It is quite heavy for a pillow, which I never heard of before.

Joy, I have a lady from the park who takes care of my hair.  On Weekend she works at the Lemon Tree beauty parlor, I always feel better.

Mary Ann, glad to see you and Dot got out Sunday,

Beverly,  I enjoy watching the birds in the bird bath, lately the two robbins, that seem to be staying for the winter have taken it over.  All summer never saw them in it.  There was even a Mocking bird out there to day. I liked your photo of the Scissortail, I never head of that one before

Hi everyone.  We expect to get up into the mid-70's today, which will be nice.  I have a busy schedule on tap as have someone meeting me here at 10 this morning for an hour and then we plan on attending the monthly Senior Luncheon at the Church.  I will come home and rest for a little while and then have an appointment at 3 pm to meet a friend at Panairo's.  Then this evening is our annual Homeowner's Association Meeting.  It is held at our fire station, which is about a half mile from where I live.

Yesterday Pat got on a cooking bent and we now have 3 1/2 quarts of chili for future meals and three more meals of the beef vegetable stew that we enjoyed for our dinner last night.  I had to help her quite a bit in getting things out for the recipes and washing up all of the dishes and pans involved.  Today I think she plans on making apple butter today although that could wait until tomorrow.

Shirleyn, glad you are finally getting some cooler weather down your way.  We left the heat on all day and all of last night and the house was very pleasant when I got up this morning.  Of course, it didn't run very often yesterday.  I just checked and we are currently 50 degrees outside but it will warm up a little later today. If you want something to download apps I would suggest you check in to an inexpensive tablet.  The Android tablets have many apps available.  You might also consider an older refurbished iPad (which is Apples version of the tablet).  Some of the lessor known brands are much less expensive.  The Kindle Fire is also a very good choice and it uses the Android apps and isn't really expensive.

deAngel, it is helpful to have that floor plan in the grocery store.  I know Kroger used to have that type of information on the little flap on the grocery carts and Walmart uses signs at the ends of their aisles and that is helpful as well.

I lost 10 pounds this morning (got my hair cut!).  This was the first time in a long time that my hair didn't look bad before I had it cut.

Tom and I had a conflict of appointments this morning but everything turned out OK.  I had my haircut appointment for 5 weeks and I don't know when his meeting was scheduled, but they both were this morning - mine at 9:15 and his at 10 am.  It doesn't take long to get my hair cut but he had to bring me back home before he could go to his meeting.  Fortunately, his meeting was not far from home, but he cautioned me to wait until I was out of the car before I changed my glasses so he could "take off" immediately.  As it was, I was in the house by the time he was at the entry to the complex, so he probably was five minutes late.

The sun is shining nicely and radar did not show any rain for today.  We won't get over 50 degrees.

Kendrick was sleeping beside me when I woke up this morning and he's still on my bed.  I feel bad for him because there is so little activity for him, but he comes to check on me wherever I am.

I found another "kitty" site while I was going from one site to another.  It said it was "live" but I think all the cats were sleeping (not a creature was stirring).  It was called Tiny Kitties and I'll try to find it - or maybe in the meantime, Patricia might know of it and find it.

My grocery store used to have floor plans for customers, maybe they still do, but occasionally they changed things around and they'd have to print new plans.  I like Meijer's arrangement where they have the signs at both ends of the aisles to let customers know where things are.  Come to think of it, my store had them when Tom took over the shopping and I'll assume they still do.  Very handy.

Sandy, lucky you, having lunch with some of your favorite people!

I could not get back to the kitty site I had seen and I think once you view one of those sites at the side, it is replaced by another one.  I saw a lot of cat sites and the kitties were all so cute, but there were no Tiny Kitties.

I think it is time for me to find something to eat.  It is 12:30 pm.

Mary Ann- Try not to feel bad for Kendrick.  He is happy and content with his life, and would be miserable anywhere else.  It would be stressful for him to suddenly be moved, or have to contend with another cat in his home environment. Most of the people here in S&F with cats, have single, indoor cats, (except for MarsGal), and the cats are all happy and well adjusted.

My older daughter and granddaughter have had Jerry, an indoor tuxedo cat for at least 10 years, maybe longer.  Recently, a friend in their apartment building, had to move suddenly, and could not take her cat, so Shelley, agreed to take the cat and "try to find a home for him". :(  She's been unable to find anyone who will take him, so they now have him there permanently. She thought that Jerry would like to have a companion, but it's not working out.  Poor old Jerry, is very depressed, and sits off by himself, and actually turns his back on the new cat, as well as on Shelley and Claire.  He is not adjusting well at all.  Also, the new cat is unhappy, and obviously misses his former owner.

I'm only mentioning it, to point out that single cats are happy with their lifestyle, and don't like change.  Introducing a new home or a new cat, isn't a good idea if it can be avoided..  Just my opinion of course.

Good morning from an icy, rainy Interior. We had received a weather advisory for snow, rain, and hazardous driving from yesterday through tomorrow early. But so far any snow has stayed far above 2000 feet.

There is a procedure for introducing two cats in the same household to avoid problems due to territory and scent. It is very hard otherwise to introduce and make friends of the cats.

https://www.paws.org/library/cats/home-life/introducing-cat-to-cat/

https://www.jacksongalaxy.com/blog/how-to-introduce-two-cats/

MaryAnne, I believe you are thinking of a Canadian woman, (Shelly); who has a feral and Foster program in Canada. She and her group feed and care, and have a trapping for neuter/spay and release back programs for a nearby forest colony of ferals as well as using portions of her house and the house next door for her ferals needing assistance or pregnancies. She then as much as possible tames the kittens and sometimes their Mamas for adoption. Many times she has had to adopt out the kittens and return a spayed Mama to the colony.

Recently she was able to have a successful cleft palate operation on a young kitten. Her site is Tiny Kittens.  http://www.tinykittens.com/

https://www.youtube.com/user/tinykittenshq

Mary Ann

Patricia, you have the right site but I would not have recognized it except for Grandpa Mason.  When I first saw the site, Grandpa Mason was mentioned and I expected a human grandpa but I found out from this site that he is a cat!!!  I think I'll bookmark this site along with the other.

Marilyn, I'm not getting a playmate for Kendrick but I wish I could be more active for his sake.  He was on my bed from before I got up at 8 am until a few minutes ago, maybe 1:45.  I know cats sleep a lot but I wish he could be more active.  He is a very loving (to me) cat, is glad to see Annie (who bought him) but he heads to the lower level if a stranger should come in.  He loves having his back rubbed the wrong way but seldom will land where I can reach him.  The other night when I would not rub him because I couldn't reach him, he reached out with his clawed paw and "got me".  The spot is healing good but he and I were not friends overnight!  He still is my buddy.

Thanks for that link, Patricia.
