You're welcome MaryAnn. You probably read that Grandpa Mason, (dying of advanced kidney disease); is an older feral cat who is wild, hisses and doesn't care for humans;  but loves kittens and is suitable for socializing them to other cats that will tolerate but still discipline them. Mother cats allow kittens liberties that other cats would not!

Did you try the Edge browser for Callie's NYC cam? I cannot view her site on Fox, only on Edge.

Mary Ann

Patricia, yes I did go to Edge to see the NYC cam that I have.  I don't have many, on the other hand, I do have a list of cams that Tom gave me and I'll check to see if there are any NYC cams on it.  I find I spend so much time on the computer that I cannot look at everything I want to.  I do have another life, but I have no idea where it is at present!!!

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I'm sure Kendrick loves you, in spite of catching you with his claw. :D  I can remember Winnie, and other cats over the years, doing the same thing.  I think it's just to get your attention.  I doubt very much that they know that it hurts!

I haven't looked at any of the cams in a few days, but I plan to go through my list this afternoon, and see what's going on.  I usually keep track of the boats due to arrive or leave Duluth, but I have no idea if any of them will be there today.  It's probably about time for Paul to return?

Mary Ann

I just noticed something interesting on the Soo cam and there is no explanation like there is on the Duluth cams.  Every time I've looked at the map, there are three ships with 0 knots, one to Montreal, one to Sault Ste Marie, one to Duluth.  Today is Tuesday and I looked at the Duluth list to see when it is expected in Duluth - the ship is the Manitoulin and is expected in Duluth on Thursday.  I also looked to see that Paul is expected Thursday but I don't know where he/she is now.  None of the ships at the Soo have been into the locks.  The ships are not in the same areas and evidently there is enough room there for the ships to anchor.

Kendrick was napping on my bed when I went to take a nap.  He stayed there the entire time I napped (an hour) and left as I got ready to get off the bed.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

Sorry to hear that Grampa Mason has kidney disease. I haven't seen any of his clips for a while.

Lindancer

Mary Ann, Kindricks actions sound a lot like Taffy, sometimes she doesn't come out of the bedroom all day. Then about 10:30PM she is trying to get me to go to bed.For some reason the wondering cat that has stayed around here for over year, he can be in the back yard and she comes flying in and ready to fight,   My yellow cat  Tiger I had for 18 years, never was sick and seem content with life.   One day I found him in the bathroom  and he had died, MUst say that shook me up

angelface555

He, Grandpa Mason was in the feral colony for a long time and evidently for whatever reason, cats in that group tend to have kidney disease. They have three or four with the same illness that they are treating and working on them eating and drinking fluids. The ill cats have, with meds and care, succeeded their medical life expectancy.

You can see some of the other sick cats in the videos with Grandpa Mason, but he is the only one that interacts or seems to enjoy the kittens. Cassidy is one who also lives there. He is a black and white tuxedo cat who was born with no hind legs. They have videos showing how as a kitten, they used a cart but as an adult, he does quite well by hopping and dragging.

If the cats aren't on medical status, pregnant or to be adopted, they are returned to the colony after checkups, meds, and neutering. When they last had the fires in British Columbia, Tiny Kittens and another group took in three feral groups, caring for them during the fires.

You have to watch this Youtube video, just to see the recital's duo tap dance ending between a ten-year-old and her 72-year-old grandfather!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ_QgAjSO1g

Marilyne

Patricia, that was really cute.  Grandpa seemed to slow down toward the end,  but then came that surprise finale!

angelface555

I know! Who does that at 72!?! and especially as his granddaughter asked him to dance, it wasn't his thing...

Joy

Good morning.   Just getting to see a little light in the sky.  I really hate getting up when it is still dark out, but I was awake at 5:30 and decided to just get up. I have had breakfast, taken my medicine and put the trash out.

However, I am still debating whether to go back to bed for a little while.  I have nothing planned for today, so I might just do that.

Patricia, that video was great.  Good for that grandfather !   I am sure that is something his grand daughter will always remember.  And,  he did a super job!

I haven't been watching the Duluth web cams that much.  I don't seem to be able to remember to check the schedule.    I have a couple cams that I used to watch down in Baltimore city, but so many times they are not working.  So, that gets a little frustrating.  And, the ones I watch down at the beaches are pretty well empty of people now that it has gotten chilly.  Don't real good beach weather now.

I just wanted to say Good Morning.  I think I have missed a couple days here lately.  But, I am still feeling good and getting back to  normal..(whatever that is) LOL

Have a great day.

Joy
BIG BOX

Mary Ann

Joy, I did the opposite of you.  I woke at 5 am, the first time for the night (and very unusual for me), turned over and went back to sleep until 8 am when Kendrick came in to see me.  He didn't stay long so I got out of bed about 8:15 and I'm still up.

I watch the Grand Haven site to see how it looks.  After the first of the year, ice will appear.  In years past, there have been ice formations, but the last few years the lake has frozen out to the outer lighthouse and there has been snow on the top.  A lot depends on the wind.  I have not had cams to the Soo or Duluth except since early this year so all will be new to me.  Whenever I check the Duluth schedule, I find so many ships are arriving or leaving "Tomorrow" or in a few days.  They sure aren't thinking of us viewers who would like a little more action!

Tom just got in from doing some driving and said it was pretty good; he gets people going to work at this time.  Weekends are best, especially if there is something going on - concert, hockey game etc.

I got to reminiscing the other day and I mentioned it to our condo association treasurer, but things have changed so much since I moved here in 1981.  At that time there were 12 units and I bought the 8th unit sold.  Soon all 12 units were occupied and several of us would get together in the summer and have a picnic on the lawn in front of my unit.  That doesn't happen now.  The treasurer had started something similar in her area and I went to those because Norm and Dot lived in her area.  Those also stopped.  We'd have a condo picnic (everyone invited) and we no longer do that.  I am sure some of the newer residents don't even know we used to do that.

Tom and I are going out to lunch either today or tomorrow (probably today); he likes to get me out of the house and I never think of it!  Of course, in the summer on nice days, I can eat on the deck but not now.  Tom pushed the deck furniture up against the slider door the other day and it makes the living area darker (it's on the north side of the building to begin with).  I questioned the location but we ended up deciding that is the best place instead of at the front of the deck - more protection for the furniture - which is covered - because of possible winds.

Much about nothing!

Mary Ann

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  It is going to be a beautiful day and hopefully pretty quiet one.  The high is suppose to be around 72 degrees with sun all day.  The only thing on my schedule as of now for today is to fix Pat's breakfast and then this evening we will go to the Church for the Wednesday night dinner.  This is Taco Bar and Ice Cream Bar night for our dinner and who could want more.  Scott starts his week's vacation today and will be off for 8 days.  He has really been looking forward to it.  He will join us for dinner and then expect he will come out to the house for awhile.  The activities of the last few days finally caught up with me and I was very tired last night when I got home from the Homeowner's Association Meeting.  It was pretty well attended and most of the discussion dealt with the landscaping as the landscaper was at the meeting.  The good news was that there will be no increase in our fees for 2019.  They haven't increased all the time we have lived here.  The meeting I had planned yesterday for 3 pm at Paneria Bread Company was cancelled and that gave me more time to rest yesterday afternoon when we came back from our Senior Luncheon.

The man who is going to pressure wash my house and do a few minor repairs and maintenance projects just stopped by and we agreed on a price.  He has done work for us before.

Mary Ann, I have such a little bit of hair left that what is cut off would be measured in ounces and not pounds.  :)  Kendrick was probably just trying to get your attention with a little love pat.

Sandy, it is nice to go out to eat with family members and having four generations at the same table is really something.

deAngel and Mary Ann, you can always make your bed the next day.  Sometimes I wonder why I bother to make mine but still do whenever I get up from sleeping or resting.

Marilyne, we have had only one cat so no experience with having to deal with two of them at once.

Patricia, you sure do know a lot about raising cats.  You must be a very good researcher and observer.  Do you still have ice on your streets and walks?

Joy, I agree with you on getting up before daylight.  Most morning I pick up my phone and start reading until it gets light.  I seem to be on slow motion today.

Marilyne

Larry, looks like our weather is just about the same as yours, this time of year.  We've been in the low 70's for over a week now, and expected to continue.  Last night the outside temp dropped to 47, which seemed really cold.  No rain in sight, so I guess we're heading for a serious drought.  The taco bar and ice cream bar dinner at your church sounds good!  AJ would love that, as two of his favorites are Mexican food, and ice cream.

Mary Ann, I just looked at Grand Haven, and see that it's calm, but looks overcast and cold.  There is one lone boat out there beyond the pier, but that's the only sign of life that I see.  I also noticed that the leaves on the trees have not started to fall yet.  They look about the same as our trees.

I haven't looked at the schedule for Duluth, but I think that last night it said Paul would be arriving at 7:30 PM tonight?  That time has probably changed, and will continue to change, as seems to be the case with Paul.  I also noticed that the Lee Tregurtha, will be arriving in Duluth later this week.  I've never seen him, so I hope that the time is good for me.

Joy, I've started waking up between 5:30 and 6:00 also.  I hate to get up so early, so I usually try to stay in bed, but once I start tossing and turning, I give up and get up.  Since I don't take naps, the day seems too long for me, if I get up that early.

I have an appointment with the dermatologist today at 2:00, which I dread.  I was there two weeks ago, and he froze/burned off a benign growth of some kind on the bottom of my foot, up by my toes.  The first week it was extremely painful, trying to walk on it . . . so sore!  This second week has been better, but I am still wearing sandals, because regular shoes hurt too much.  Today's appointment is just to check that spot, and some others I think.  I dislike doctor appointments so much now.  It's very stressful, no matter the doctor or the problem.

Mary Ann

Larry, that was no love pat that Kendrick gave me the other night; he got two veins on the back of my hand.  It is healing nicely and I took off the band-aid last night to give it some air.  Kendrick is again sleeping on my bed and I think Tom and I are going to lunch today so Kendrick will stay there until we return.

I do want to say your taco bar would not appeal to me since I don't care for tacos.  The ice cream bar I would go for, but I think it would not be a very nutritious meal.

I like Larry's and Marilyn's temperatures.  We are at 44 degrees and I doubt we'll get over 50.  But it is late October and I think we can count this as Indian summer or as I like to call it "October's Bright Blue Weather".

Marilyn, I can't look at Grand Haven until I finish here but we have sunshine, so Grand Haven may have changed.  It is cold here, so I can guess it is cold there.  Most boats will have been winterized and stored by this time, but if you saw a boat on the lake, that doesn't apply to everyone.

The last time I looked, Paul was to leave Thursday, so his schedule may have been changed.  Lee was Paul's wife and I don't know if either or both of them have died.

I wonder if what is on your foot sole is Planter's Fascias (sp) or even Planter's Warts.  I had P Fascias many years ago on the ball of one foot.  I don't recall having any treatment, but maybe I did.  I know my doctor looked at it.

Tom is coming upstairs in a few minutes and we'll go to lunch.  I'd better get ready.

Mary Ann

angelface555

Good morning from the Interior! The only change we've had this month is slipping from highs in the fifties to highs in the forties. Today's high will be 47 with a low of 33. They keep sending out severe weather advisories of mixed freezing rain and snow but from 2000 elevation and lower it has only been raining. I have no idea where that predicted snow went. We still have a thick coating of ice due to the freezing rain and colder night temperatures.

We had a bit of excitement yesterday as a lone moose was wandering by and some idiot was trying to herd it with his car or else angling for a better photo. The moose retreated into our back parking lot by the river and security went out and blocked the idiot, (some young military guy); while the moose crossed the river and moved on. You really shouldn't mess with a 1,500 pound animal with your car or yourself. Either one is expensive.

I posted that video because how many 72-year-old men can do a flip? I found myself involuntarily clapping. That ten-year-old lucked out with her grandpa!

I had my last inspection this morning, REAC structural and hopefully that is the last one until December when I have my biyearly housekeeping one. We seemed to have a lot of them this year, more so than usual, probably due to the sale. The notice of the inspection had a note about removing any magnets from the fuse box. I wasn't aware that was an issue, but then I don't feel the need to decorate mine. They arrived just before eight this morning, and I was still in my robe as usually, inspections are between nine and five. I don't know if they are going by floor or how it's done.

As MaryAnn posted earlier, much about nothing!

MaryAnn, I'm sure Kendrick didn't mean to go deep!

P.S. Larry, I would love an ice cream bar! I have too many issues with dairy, unfortunately.

Marilyne

Patricia - I’ve seen videos of the stupid things that people (men) do, to get a picture of a moose, a bear, a buffalo, etc.  You just wonder how they can be so arrogant, as to think that it’s okay if they get out of the car, get up close, and start snapping photos of a wild animal.  I swear, people didn’t used to be that way?  Maybe it’s the constant availability and convenience of the smart phone camera, that makes them think they have a right to do whatever they want!
Okay, rant over!

Mary Ann - I’m sitting here killing time, just waiting to leave for my dermatologist, so I decided to look for some information on line about the Tregurtha family.  Lots of stuff about the two ships, but not much about Paul himself.  He is still living, and was born in 1936.  I’m two years older than he is!
Here are the two sites I found:

Hmm, Marilyne, that means you are one year younger than I.  Tee Hee!

Gee Mary Ann, you asked me to come in at least once a week, this is five times this week!!!!!

angelface555

Larry, I just saw your note. I have always loved cats and have been involved locally with Pet Pride, a feline rescue and adoption program since I was seventeen. I 've had cats since I was a child and fostered intermittently. Since 1998, I have when able, been a permanent foster for cats with illnesses or behavioral issues.

While I don't see myself as hardcore, animals, especially cats are something I feel strongly about.

Marilyne, you're right about folks, (believing they're invincible!); thinking animals are like toys. There was a man trampled by a moose several years ago. It had been pelted with rocks by kids in a school playground, and unfortunately, the man was the next person that moose saw. Any animal provoked can kill or do severe damage, even pets and this area has a lot of large animals roaming around, not necessarily in town but in the area.

Kendrick took a nap with me this afternoon.  The trouble is he takes a lot of naps.

When Jim and I were in Alaska in 2006, the bus had to slow down because of all the cars ahead of us that were stopped.  Eventually we saw a moose mother and young one near the road.  Imagine our surprise to see a woman and a couple of children outside a car trying to photograph the moose family.  I don't know if she got her shot, but she did get back in the car so everyone could get on their ways.  You can imagine the conversation in the bus as we rode along.  So men are not the only stupid people; women can do some stupid things too.

Marilyn, that was interesting about the Tregurtha family.  I knew ships were named for shipping people and I wasn't sure if they were alive or not.  Interesting that they included his sexual orientation; the blurb was dated 2014.

And I'm 10 years older than you are!

PS Marilyn, you may have noticed that Paul is now leaving Duluth at 5:30 AM CDT Friday morning, not Thursday evening.  I doubt you want to stay up that late (or early?).

Mary Ann

angelface555

And I'm younger and less active than all of you!  :-[

Men and women, both sexes, have a tendency to believe in their own invincibility. I read an article not too long ago that discussed why folks continued to engage in asinine behavior. One of the reasons it is hard to change some people's minds and behavior is that they don't see it as imbecilic because they are doing it and that's not the image they have of themselves. And it makes perfect sense when you think about it.

Marilyne

Shirleyn - Good to see you here! :)  Come in MORE than once a week - we like hearing from you.  Have you heard anything about Joan?  I sent her a couple of emails, but I'm sure she is recuperating in a rehab hospital, so probably doesn't have access to a computer.

Mary Ann, I thought it was strange too, that they listed Paul T's sexual orientation, as well as his political party and what candidates he supported over the years.  I'm sure he would have had to agree to, and approve all those questions.

My visit with the dermatologist, was rather unsatisfactory, as far as I'm concerned.  He is always in so much of a hurry, and doesn't like to be asked any questions.  I asked about my foot, and he said it was a plantar wart, and that there is another one there that he will remove in a few months.  He said it takes two to four weeks for it to heal, which explains why I've had such a problem walking.  I said to him, that I wish he had told me all that at the time, so I would have been prepared.  He didn't respond with any comment.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I like to think my dermatologist would be more open with any needed information.  My experience with a dermatologist was for skin cancer - twice.  But after any exam or follow-up, he would ask if I had any questions, also he would look at my neck and back for any possibilities.  This last time I went for a checkup and waited a half hour while I saw others come and go, so I finally went to the desk and said I'd waited a half hour and I was leaving.  She looked at my record and let me go.  I did not get billed for the appointment.

One thing I have had in the past, in fact, more than one, is I've had wens, all but one on my head.  I had them all removed surgically and I haven't had one for years, but who knows?!

Mary Ann

angelface555

Sounds like one of Candy's doctors to me. You're paying both financially and perhaps physically for his lack of concern. Would you put up with this from an insurance agent or store clerk?

Hi Everyone.  It is a cool morning here in South Carolina and is suppose to be cloudy all day with a high of 64.  Since this is Thursday I will be picking up my friend at the assisted living facility and we will go downtown for coffee.  Either before or after coffee I have to pick up a couple of prescriptions for Pat at the Walmart Pharmacy.  Today is our son's 55th birthday and he didn't want to go to a nice restaurant as we have done in the past but elected to go to Diablo's.  He has started his week's vacation and he may join me at coffee this morning as I told him I would buy his breakfast.

We did enjoy the Taco Bar and Ice Cream Bar at our dinner last night.  We had all the trimmings one would want with both.  Yesterday I sent off our absentee ballots so that is done for this election cycle.

Marilyne, it was a beautiful day here yesterday but much cooler today.  I hope you are headed for more drought.  AJ would have enjoyed our meal last night.  They used soft tacos, which is my preference as they don't break all up when you bite into them.  Too bad that your dermatologist couldn't take a minute to tell you what to expect with your foot. Too bad the doctor couldn't have taken care of both of the growths on your foot at the same time but suppose the insurance would allow for only one at a time.  At least you will know what to expect in terms of pain and healing.

deAngel, sure hope the doctor has something that will soon take care of the arm problem and that you will be able to be seen today.

Mary Ann, that sounds like quite a scratch that Kendrick gave you.  It is interesting how different people like different foods.  I love tacos and most things on the Mexican menu, although usually stick with getting something I have had before that I liked.  I am not an adventurous eater.  Sometimes we sort of forget nutrition.  Hope you enjoyed your lunch out yesterday with Tom.

Patricia, I sure wouldn't like your icy conditions.  While we can have ice here and a few years ago we had a terrible ice storm over in Atlanta and over here in South Carolina that did lots of damage it would never stay on the ground very long.  We seldom see any snow.  I've seen a big moose in the road when I was in a small car and it is a pretty frightening site.  Fortunately the moose wasn't made at us so we had no problem.  Can you eat soy ice cream? No wonder you know so much about cats with your long and active involvement with them.

ShirleyN,  good to see your five postings but hope that isn't going to be it and you won't post for the next five weeks.

Good Morning Everyone from the
clear but cold,  rocky coast of Maine.

It is going to be in the 40's  and 50's day times,
for the next couple of weeks....  Once November
comes, then the icy cold Winter Days start to
become our reality...

But so far,  so good.

I no longer eat dairy products....(milk, ice cream, yogurt)
and have found some non dairy  products to replace them...
I do love Almond Milk and that has become my staple
"milk type" drink ....      There is non dairy yogurt and icecream
but I do not like them... They are very high in sugar and to me,
leave an after taste in my mouth,  which I don't trust nor
like..

So Almond Milk now is the only dairy like product that
I use,  and I am very grateful for that.

Giving up eating dairy (milk, yogurt, and all cheeses)
has been very hard for me..   because I love them
all.

But my skin in better having done so.   After
about a month of not eating dairy,  the rashes and itchy
skin stopped appearing.      (It took a month
for me not eating dairy products,  to see the good
results I received from giving them up)

But I will say that food just does not tastes
as good to me, with out them.

I sure do miss  the dairy world...  but not the itching
and constant skin issues.

It was hard for me to give up the true dairy world....
But I do what I have to do to be comfortable in my
body.

Have a great day,  Everyone...

"I hope you are headed for more drought."  Larry, I know you didn't mean this when you responded to Marilyn!

We are at 33 degrees now at 9:40 am but when I first got up at 4:30 am, the temp was 26 degrees.  I have an idea any flowers that lasted bit the dust last night.

Tom and I did have an enjoyable lunch at Bud and Stanley's.  I had a wet burrito and Tom had a veggie burger.  Going out to eat is about the only chance we have for a one-to-one time.  Tom is either working downstairs or often is out of the house.  (Bud and Stanley are the names of the owner's dogs.)

Tom is not a vegetarian but tries to eat lighter than usual.  He is still on Weight Watchers but I know he doesn't adhere 100% - he eats out a lot with friends.  One of our favorite pizzas is a vegetarian pizza from Papa Murphy's that you buy, bring home and bake yourself.  That way it is hot - and I like my hot food hot.

Speaking of hot, Larry I do not like spicy (hot) food, one reason I am not fond of Mexican food.  However!  We have a Mexican restaurant near here and Tom likes to go there occasionally.  If I go with him, I have found (and don't ask me what) foods that are not too spicy that I will eat.

I'd like to get back to looking for pictures for Alicia and Charissa.  I want to give them each pictures of their husbands when they were young.  The problem is that I ended up with pictures of Tim, Tom and Terry when they were young.  Absent minded!

Sandy, you posted while I was writing, so now I'll make this longer.  I used to buy a yogurt ice cream.  I don't know if it was a dairy product or not and it was an acquired taste but I grew to like it.  I bought vanilla, but they had a strawberry that was very good.  If I buy ice cream today, it still is vanilla.  With Tom here, we do not have any desserts, only cookies available.  And when we eat out, we do not get dessert.

What was said about the moose reminded me of our visit to Yellowstone National Park in 2003.  We were on one of the roads and just sitting in the car as there were about 30 or 40 Buffalo in the middle of the road.  Wasn’t much we could do about it.  After about 10 minutes a Park Ranger came along on his horse and moved them along and to the side.  I didn’t see anyone get out of their car, but we just took pictures through the car windows.  Yellowstone is the most interesting place I’ve seen.

Patricia, Alaska, South Dakota and North Dakota are the only states I’ve never visited.  We thought about another trip, but too late,  I’m afraid.
