Good cold afternoon waiting for first snow

Mary Ann, thanks for the lesson about remembering  the lakes.  One we use to say in school.    "Germany got Hungry, chased Turkey slipped on Greece and fell in the Mediterranean Sea"

Click for Riverhead, NY Forecast

Marilyne

Mary Ann, what a great way to remember the names of the Great Lakes . . . HOMES!  Looking back at my years of schooling, I don't ever remember learning much about the Great Lakes, other than being able to point them out on a map of the US. It's always been hard for me to remember the names of all five, but now (at this late date) I will never forget!  The only GL that I have ever seen is Lake Michigan, when we drove to Chicago about 20 years ago.

I'm also sorry that the webcam at The Soo, changed it's position again.  There is really nothing to see from this angle, whereas the one that shows the locks is interesting.  This angle would be good, if there happened to be a ship in that first channel, but I've only seen one there once, and it was as small tourist boat.

Joy,  good that your procedure is finished, and the doctor is not expecting any problems.  Now you can relax over the Holiday season, and not worry about health issues for a while.

Patricia, we haven't seen you here in a couple of days?  Hope all is well?

angelface555

Good morning from a now snowy Interior as we received seven inches overnight with probably three to four inches remaining. It is presently minus five with an expected high today of plus seven. We are not due for more snow until Monday.

Marilyne, I'm fine, just a series of appointments out, visit with friends and some early Christmas shopping or hunting and gathering as Callie always put it. This morning Dora and I went grocery shopping, and we both received free turkeys as they had a spend a certain amount to get a free one deal.

We weren't particularly going for it, but it was a pleasant surprise! I had purchased one small one the other day and received another small one in a Thanksgiving gift basket from one of the local sorority chapters for everyone living here. So, my freezer is full!

I'm making a cranberry, orange, raspberry whole berry relish for Thanksgiving at Dora's this year as she requested it. She is like a general with her lists. There will be about ten of us there, and everyone has an assigned a role.

She keeps a small binder with lists for every endeavor, and I'm sure Thanksgiving wouldn't dare to be less than Perfect. She's very caring and loving with family and friends, but those lists are so much a part of her.

Joy, I'm glad your procedure went well, and now you will have the holidays free. It sounds as if everyone is doing well and planning family Thanksgivings!

Marilyne

Patricia - I wish I could go with you to Dora's for Thanksgiving! I'd be glad to bring whatever dish she requested, and then just enjoy everyone else's contributions.  Our older daughter will be staying here, and will help me with whatever we decide to prepare or buy ready to eat, so I shouldn't complain.  I think it's just the planning, purchasing, preparing, and all the hassle that ensues! (I hope you have a big enough freezer for those three turkeys?)

angelface555

Marilyne, I'm sure Dora would love to have you and your family as she loves entertaining! Alan affectionately, (At least, so he says   ); calls her either the Little General or Bonaparte.   ::)  In her lists, she blocks out each item and outlines her agenda.

Since it has gotten below freezing for a period, I put food out on my balcony in boxes, protected against birds. My fridge is a large upright model so stores plenty of my freezer bags of food prep. And even tho the kitchens are Pullman types, they come with lots of counter and storage space, and all the lower shelves equipped with pull outs. Or at least there would be plenty of counter space if I didn't have my inductor microwave and large toaster oven sitting on one counter.

I don't know how many you've invited, but why not take a page from Dora's binder and parcel out those preparations and cleanup?

Microsoft Launches October Windows Update, in November
The initial launch of the Windows October Update was an epic fail.  After being released for less than a week, Microsoft put a halt on any updates that had yet to initiate, so they could resolve the issues its users had been reporting.  Some of those bugs included incorrect CPU utilization, .zip issues, file-wiping problems, and driver crashes.  Microsoft opted to take their time to fix each of these issues and ensure the update executed as should.  Due to the time this took, they ended up missing their October deadline.

However, according to TechRepublic, Windows October update is now live.  If users want the update now, they will have to access it through the Windows 10 download page, here.  The latest version of the October update will also be released through the Windows Update feature; however, that release date had not yet been set.

A couple of the key features of this update include a cloud clipboard and an automatically clearing hard drive space.

As always, PC Matic encourages timely updates to all of your applications, operating systems included.  Once this update is available through the Windows Update feature, please be sure to update your PCs accordingly.

Dot and me standing, Tom in chair.  It is a "selfie" Tom took, his first, and I think the angle wasn't too good.  I don't think Tom's head is shaped that way!

  Good Morning Everyone...

I see that we are on our new site....  It
will be interesting to see if we all can
get in and trying using all of our new stuff

(I had to use "color=navy" to get my favorite
navy blue color,  which is not showing up as
one of our options.

Opps, it is there but way over to the right which
I couldn't see."

We are off and running.

our smiley faces are limited...     :(

Sandy, I managed Bold, but my color did not take.  Nor did the font.  I used to be able to go to another place from here, then back again, but I lost what I was writing (in another folder), so I won't try that again.

I mentioned it elsewhere, but that is a darling picture of Fe and it is hard to realize she is nearly two.  They do grow up fast.

Now, I'll see what I can accomplish.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

WOW!  Everything took but I'll try for a smaller font.  That was 5 and really stood out!

I guess at 81, I'm just getting too cranky to like changes.  I am not happy with the new format.

Hi Everyone. It is a beautiful sunny and chilly day here in South Carolina.  When I got up this morning it was 32 degrees, our first freezing day of the season but we will be in the mid-50's this afternoon.  I am late getting here this morning as have been dealing with paperwork involved with the DMV and the sale of the PT Cruiser to my son.  As normal his first trip generated more paperwork needed so he was just here and hopefully that is taken care of.  I have already taken the vehicle off of the insurance policy so now officially only own one vehicle. The housekeeper is here this morning and Pat and I plan on going out for lunch today to enjoy the nice weather and to keep the kitchen clean for at least one day. I may pick up a couple of prescriptions from Walmart when we are out.

I see the software update has been done as had to sign in again this morning and see the changes in the appearance of the site.  Thank Oldiesmann.

Mary Ann, I am sure your Thanksgiving dinner will be better than what we had, which was OK, but had to be prepared probably for around 200 people. I think I overstated how good the meal was but I was "very good" and ate all but some of the dressing. I did mean the I to be it in the sentence.

Joy, will be thinking good thoughts toward your doctor's report from your procedure.  Anesthesia can be hard on us as we age.  Glad you didn't have any problems and glad your son could spend the night to keep an eye on you.  It looks like pre-winter has hit pretty hard in the NE. Maybe some left overs will be sent home with you from your Thanksgiving dinner. Nice you can keep your turkey frozen on your balcony.  We don't have that option here in the South although we now could store a small turkey in our freezer in the garage, but not going to happen. It is about time someone did something about these miserable robo calls.  I thought after the election maybe they would stop but that didn't happen.  It does no good to block the numbers as they have plenty of other ones.  They are very annoying.  Do you use PC Matic?  I am thinking about doing so next year when my other subscriptions run out.

Bubble, thanks for posting that picture for Mary Ann.  I think that is the first picture I have ever seen of Dot and Tom.

deAngel, interesting saying you learned in school to help remember the names of the Great Lakes.

Marilyne, I think the only great lake I have seen is also Lake Michigan. As far as I know Pat is through preparing special meals for holidays as she just isn't up to it anymore.

Patricia, it sounds like you have enough snow for the weekend.  Good deal getting a free turkey.  I have heard of no such offers around here. It is nice that Dora let you know what she wanted you to bring rather than you having make the decision. She obviously is a good planner.

Sandy, I like the new format of this discussion, especially the coding features right above the Quick View posting box rather than having to go to Preview to get to them as the old software required.

Sue, I can understand your frustration with dealing with changes.  I went through some of that this morning dealing with the sale of our car to our son.

MarsGal

It looks like my first post of the day didn't!

I just wanted to say thanks Bubble for posting Mary Ann's photo.

Mary Ann, the photo is just super. Tom did a nice job.

Mary Ann

Thanks, MarsGal.  Tom didn't know I expected him to do a selfie but we all got into position and he aimed the phone, we all could see what was on it.  He took a couple of pictures and they both turned out OK.  Neither Dot nor I have cell phones (mine is a TracFone that does not take pictures) so it was up to Tom.  So he learned something new that day!!!

And I'm learning new things with this new setup.  So far I have been successful, but it took a few trials before I got things working.

Grand Haven has whitecaps today.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

I need to remember to enlarge the type; it is tiny.

Not all of my icons are working. A lot are showing up as text only. Not that I use them much.

Marilyne

I'll probably wait a while for things to straighten out here, before I post again. Does anyone know WHY these changes have been made? What was wrong with the old format? I'm too old for change I guess, but I'll try not to be a complainer.  I'm curious as to what this post will look like when I hit "post"?  It looks completely different now as to font and spacing?

Mary Ann

Marilyn and anyone else - you must highlight your copy for each change - I highlight, then click on B (for Bold), highlight again and click on the icon to the right of the A for font size, and highlight again and click on the next icon which is for color.  I don't use most of the others but I will experiment to see what they do and I might use some of them - always highlighting the copy first (do it for every application).

Mary Ann

FlaJean

not sure I like this new site.  Everything looks so small.

FlaJean

evidently made my font too large.  When something is working well, why change it?

After typing out my message, I right click the mouse and select all before clicking on the coding features I want to use. I agree, there will need to be several fixes as many links are broken, and you can't see your usual forums but must go down the full list to the ones you want each time. I just saw, luckily before posting, that the top tier of my message disappeared and will need to be redone. Some coding I used, showed pre-post but not after posting. For example, this is the third edit for a simple post. I think we might lose a few members before all changes are resolved.

I use number 4 for font size so you may want a 2 or 3 font size.

Sasha

Good day, all. If this works, I'll teach myself to navigate the site.

CallieOK

This is going to take some getting used to!!

The box with the A is the one for changing font/size/color and the next ones are for inserting things.  I don't have a clue what "maximize" and "toggle source view" mean!

I don't like the "Jump to" choice.  Would rather be able to mark a list of forums in which we've posted and go straight to it instead of having to read through the entire list.

Didn't see a way to Modify my post in another Forum, either.  Will make it hard to edit.   (I think the "Quick Edit" link just showed up!  It works!!!!!

I'm sure there'll be some more "tweaking".

Off to check the ship cams.   Yesterday, the NYC Harbor cams were covered with snow and there was lots of fog coming off the water.  Looked like the "Port" cam (shows the cruise ships that are docked) was a close-up of a ship's smoke stack or something like that.

Mary Ann

I have learned where Bold, Font and Color are.  I have to remember to highlight my copy for each change and it seems I have to go down and work my way up because i end up at the top of the site regardless of where I left off.  I am sure Michael (Oldiesman) has his work cut out for him for a while.

I just checked the Grand Haven site and there whitecaps and also people flying kites.

Mary Ann

Joy

Jean,  I am with you. I don't think too much of the new changes.

There is no place to check on the sites you are used to going to????

I have some bad news from Shirleyn!
She sent me a Facebook message, because she couldn't get in to post here in Norms Bar and Tackle. This quote is from Shirley:

"I need your prayers.  My leg has sores, which have been diagnosed as lymphoma cancer. I will be having chemo therapy/radiation infusions. Today I had a Pet Scan to see if it has spread through the body yet. If so, I will refuse the infusions and go with Care.  Please pray for me that it has not spread."

Oh, Marilyne,  I am so very sorry about the news from ShirleyN.  I wish the best for her.

Joy,  I saw some place to click on the lower right hand side for editing when I posted in another forum  but I don't see it now in "Preview".  I'm going to click "Post" and see if it shows up

Yes, it did.  It says "Quick Edit" - but didn't show until I posted.   The "More" box says Modify or Remove.

Joy

Callie,   no matter what number I click on to change the font size, it comes out the same size as this is.  And,  I click on the "Blue" color square and it still comes out black.

Joy

I clicked on the number "7 " for the size, and the color blue and it didn't change anything.

I give up for now and will have to come back later.
