Yes, Joy, the end of February.  I can't say we've had too bad a month although we have had some snow and we had that Polar Vortex.  Right now the sun is shining and I'm not sure what the temp is because the sensor is in the sun.  My thermometer says 23 degrees but it probably is more like 20.  I looked at the Soo this morning and it was a lovely scene.  There was snow on the trees and the sun was shining. It will still be a month before shipping starts on the Great Lakes.  I can hardly wait.

I don't have anything special to do today, just more of the same.  If Tom suggests eating out today, we'll have to stop at the bank because I'm fresh out of $20 bills which I use to pay for our lunches.

I hope everyone has a good day and I'll probably be back later.  I just realized it is Thursday and there should be some golf to watch.

Mary Ann

Hi Everyone. We are expecting it to get to around 70 degrees today with some rain later in the day.  My visit to the pacemaker clinic went well yesterday and my battery should last about 15 months more before the pacemaker/defibrillator will need to be replaced.  The technician told me they do that at my cardiologists office since it is a simple procedure as long as the three wires into the heart are in good shape.  Scott had been to the dentist yesterday morning for a crown preparation so he wasn't feeling very good and didn't spend any time with us.  His jaws were aching but the dentist gave him a prescription for something to help relax this jaws and he was feeling better last evening.  He will be out again late this afternoon to have dinner with us.  He is bringing pizza and a few other things for our dinner tonight with something we can freeze for later meals.  He said he would stop by his store and make the pizza himself and then bring it out here uncooked so we can have it fresh out of the oven.  I was pretty tired all day yesterday but do feel less tired today and plan to take things nice and quiet.  Last night after using my oxygen concentrator for 3 hours it dies and wouldn't restart.  I called about it this morning and they already brought out another unit.  Fortunately I am not dependent on the oxygen as many people are so I still had a good night's sleep.

Mary Ann, you are a fortunate lady to get to be with those twins often and see them grow and change. I am sure they were more interesting than the TV program.  It sounds like their must be a lot of hockey watching in their household.  We enjoyed the second meal last night from the food our friend brought to us.  She certainly went above and beyond.  Those $20 bills seem to disappear quickly from ones wallet.

Jackie, sorry your didn't win at the bingo or raffle but better luck next time.  Your new weekly gathering sound like a lot of fun also.

Patricia, you must have needed the extra rest.

Marilyne, I saw on the news the terrible flooding up in Northern California.  Like you it has been many years since I played Bingo.

Callie, hope that ice will be short lived in your area.  Sorry your bridge group had to be cancelled after you got your cookies made.

MarsGal, not sure I ever saw a bald eagle live.  It is encouraging to see the birds start their migration back North.  Is St. David's Day a Welsh Saint.

Joy, our weather forecast for later this week is nights below freezing, which is normal and it kills the blossoms on the trees and flowers that have bloomed.  Fortunately it usually gets above freezing about everyday here. I didn't realize that Daylight Savings was starting in 10 days.

Mary Ann

Hi Larry, your post sounded like the "old" Larry, or should I say the "before" Larry.  Yes, I am fortunate I live only 40 miles from James and his family so I can see the girls and their parents whenever Tom asks me to go with him to baby sit.  I'm not going to encourage them to say Aunt Mary Ann, but maybe they can call me AMA or I can be another Grandmother to them.  One of their real grandmothers lives in northern Michigan north of Traverse City and the other ones lives in Milwaukee so I can be a substitute.

Poor Scott, I've had several crowns and they're no fun, however, I don't recall pain with them, only a stretched jaw when they've worked on the tooth.

Larry, yesterday I decided I had seen enough of my program so I did not watch it on the computer.  Through much of the program, Johanna crawled up beside me and I hoped she would go to sleep but she didn't, she just watched the program.  I'm glad she likes hockey because I like it too, however, I would not expect to watch it when I would be there.

I haven't looked at the pictures I took Tuesday but if I can find a decent one of both girls, I'll send it to Bubble for posting.

I'm feeling sad today because my cousin in Indy had to put his cat down yesterday.  The cat was almost 17 and had lived a good life and just recently she began to slow down and deteriorate.  She was such a tiny cat and I'm sorry she never met Kendrick because I would like to have compared their sizes - Kendrick is a big cat!

It is 11:15 and I think it is time for me to get dressed.  Tom is not subbing today.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Good Morning,

My driveway and street are dry but a friend about 5 miles west says hers are a sheet of ice.  Supposed to "warm up" (i.e. get above freezing) this afternoon with sunshine.  I don't mind the cold but am very tired of the gray skies.

Haven't played Bingo in years but remember doing so with people who were playing with 4 or 5 cards.  I was always amazed at how they could keep up with that many at one time.
We used to play Uno, Skip-Bo and Farkle with friends in Amarillo.
My son/dil who are parents of The Grands taught them to play table games at a very early age - and we still do so every time we're together for a holiday. Mexican Train dominoes is the current game of choice and it can get "rowdy".  :)

Mary Ann,  isn't Amah (AMA) the word for Grandmother in some language?  I think that would be a wonderful name for the twins to call you.

Joy,  I also like the longer evenings - specially in the summer.  Love to be outside between almost sunset and dark.

I'm sure there's something useful I can do.  Better hunt up the RoundTuit and get busy.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Marilyne

MarsGal - I plan to look up St. David's Day, and learn more about it.  Both my father and my brother were named David, (my brother was a Junior), so I have a special love for the name. My brother had two sons, but they didn't name either one David.

The area along the Russian River, where the flooding is occurring right now, is where my sister-in-law still lives.  My brother built the house, and it's very sturdy, and sits up on a hill overlooking the river.  When it floods like this, the house has never been in any danger.  However, the hill is steep and the ground is saturated, so I always worry about mud slides.  Beautiful area up there in the Redwoods, but seems they are always in jeopardy - either fires or floods.

Today, AJ is going to go to Costco, so I'm going to have him get a couple of the ready to eat casseroles, for us to have over the weekend.  Last week he brought home one of the Costco $4.99, rotisserie chickens. They are so good, and enough for a couple of meals, and then chicken rice soup, plus a few sandwiches!  What a bargain.

I'm one of those who is not thrilled over Daylight Saving Time. I like the time to be as it was meant to be, so I prefer Standard time.  It's mainly the switching back and forth that I dislike.  Last year we voted in California, to have DST, year around, but it has to be approved by the Federal Government before it ever actually happens.  So far no word of when that will be?

I see that two people have posted while I've been composing this message!
Hello to Callie and Mary Ann:wave:

angelface555

Good morning from the Interior! This is the first morning for some time that I have awakened pain-free. The barometric pressure seems to have settled, and I can breathe again.

Farrah closely watched me, and I believe that the sudden sounds I was making made her suspicious that I was either angry with her or I was going to fall on her. Either way, she wasn't pleased!

Larry, I was exhausted just being out for that trip, but unfortunately, it was necessary. I needed a prescription that for me didn't seem to help. It was wonderful to come in and see your message today, as MaryAnn, stated, from the before Larry!

Callie, amah, is an older term for a nursemaid either amah or ayah.

The weather here hasn't changed much, but we have so much light! At the Winter Solstice, we had three hours daily and an hour and a half of that was dusk. Now it is light often when I first get up, there is anticipation in my senses, and the animals and birds are moving when previously you rarely saw them.

In the full summer, there is daylight 24/7, and after this winter it will be doubly appreciated! In a month or so, the ravens will disappear back into the cooler mountains, and the Sanctuary will be full of life again.

We never see Bald Eagles here unless one has strayed, but in Homer and Haines in the Southeast, there are thousands. Here, we mainly have Golden Eagles. We have more owls this far north and several varieties of hawks.

Marilyne, I saw that about the Russian River. It caught my eye because there is one in this state too. The photos and accompanying stories were awful after this past California summer! I hope Mother Nature goes easier on you guys for a year or two!

Larry Hanna...
...what a pleasant surprise seeing a lengthier post from you today, seems like we have our Larry back...

Well not such good news on the Richard front...Richard went for his Cardiologist Consultant hospital appointment today, gave him an ECG, not quite the news he was expecting...First he is to have breathing tests at the lung function dept, followed by an X-ray scan of his neck blood vessels, followed by a coronary angiogram procedure, followed by open heart surgery - his aortic valve...Well neither of us was expecting that...told he will be in hospital for a week ( open heart surgery )...he was also asked about me at home, told them I have PPMS, said they will make arrangements for me...

Mary Ann

Jackie, that is indeed bad news for Richard.  Reading along, I wondered about you and I see they will see that you are taken care of.

Callie, I just saw a picture of something - snowfall and accident - in OK but I didn't recognize the name of the city.  You mentioned your friend living near a snow-covered highway while your roads were clear and dry.  Oh, I wonder if that was an ad for a Weather Channel program.

AMA as you might guess is the abbreviation for Aunt Mary Ann.  Tom coined it years ago when there wasn't room on the calendar for my entire name and I've used it ever since.  I'll let the girls figure out what to call me.

Terry's MIL used to have her grandkids call her Ama, unbeknownst to me, so when I started sending e-mails from AMA, she changed her name to Oma.  Her husband is Papa.  He is not in good shape, can hardly walk even with a walker.  Both Oma and Papa are headed for Alz's, but he may never make it.  He was 85 last June.

Tom and I went to the Boulder Creek Country Club for lunch today.  I had a delicious fish sandwich and brought some Napa salad home for supper as Tom will not be here.

Tom has a meeting in about a half hour, then will have supper with his friend, Mary, who lives in Holland.

Patricia, I'm glad the weather has improved so your aches and pains are decreasing.

Mary Ann

Welcome back to Larry. Sounding much better. There for awhile it seemed that not many postings. I am just reading at the moment. Still awful cold here and weather man just said. More snow over the weekend and nights below zero. I try to just accept it but this winter has been one of the worst . I am still without a car and its to cold to be going out to find a new one.
Still can't handle this W10. Need to spend more time on the book.
Did get the $60 plus problem that Comcast has showing on my Bill. Said for coming out in December. Took me 4 hours on phone with them. Still only could get someone out of the country to handle. Looks like now the will be charging for service calls where have to come to the house. If another company would open up here I will be changing. Still my WiFi now working good.

Jackie. That was quite a shock you both got after all the testing. Good they found it all though. Sure they will have someone coming out to help you while he is in the hospital.. Look forward MaryAnn to you getting Bubble to show photo of the twins. Wish I knew how to post photos. I can work with them on the Ipad but not Windows. Will soon have to replace Ipad as mine getting old now. It is about 5 years and lots of things need one of the newer ones now. Mine jus 9.4 and needs 10.7 for some apps.

MarsGal

JeanneP. that is disheartening to hear. I switched from Comcast, not because of customer service (which has always been great here), but because I was paying for a lot of channels I didn't want or watch. FIOS had a better package selection at the time, and I got most of the stations I wanted without paying more than I did with Comcast. FIOS customer service, the one time I called, was not helpful at all. Comcast has a local "store" and I've talked to CSRs in Lancaster and Philly, never overseas. That is definitely something I am going to have to ask about before signing back with them.

Larry, St. David is the patron saint of Wales.

Mary Ann

Patricia, all I can say is WOW.  What beautiful work.  I did not read all about it because my eyes aren't focusing well today, but I do appreciate the art work.  Do people do that today?

Mary Ann

angelface555

Yes it is still being done but done in a different way,
different styles. You can sketch out something and instantly replicate it. Or design a font or a tube or design and mass produce it within a couple of days if not hours.

MarsGal, I'm a third Welsh from my father's side and really know little about it/them. I plan on Googling St. David. You do know that the Welsh were the only Celts not conquered by Rome's legions? They painted themselves blue, fought naked and scared the crap out of them!

Patricia, I've never seen modern calligraphy, that comes anywhere near to that intricate script! How do people have the patience to create something like that?  Absolutely beautiful!

Jackie - That's an unfortunate diagnosis for Richard!  The valve surgery is serious, but seems that many people are having it, and then living a long life afterwards.  I think there are a few members here in S&F, that had the surgery?  Wonderful that they are going to provide you with help/support, while he's recuperating!  I don't believe that would ever happen here in the US!

Marilyn...
...he has never been in a hospital bed so this will be " a whole new ball game, " so to speak..Also up until recently he had never even had any hospital procedures such as cameras up him or down him, seems like at age 74 things are catching up with him. Yes I am sure after they have done everything that needs to be done to him he will be a whole lot fitter than I am, at least these things of his can be rectified and sorted, as for my MS it cant be...

Richard is still awaiting his cataract removal consultation, told after the list had caught up with itself, come down a month or two, it is now way behind and even got longer from the hospital Richard had chosen to go with. He has now been waiting for his call up consultation ( not to have them removed that will be a longer wait ) it is going on nine months now...Knowing his luck he will get called up during his operation, or his 4 weeks recovery, if for any reason he doesn't make his cataract app, he will be put back further on the list, these cataract lists are so long..they are saying, in UK people are going blind whilst waiting on them, our NHS waiting list...

MarsGal

Patricia, I think that was the Scots.

Anyway, the Romans did eventually conquer most of the Welsh tribes. https://www.historic-uk.com/HistoryUK/HistoryofWales/The-Romans-in-Wales/

I am still trying to puzzle out the connection between Wales and York, which I see mentioned elsewhere on occasion in connection with the Welsh, aside from supposedly having family there. I always thought that had something to do with alliances during the medieval clashes between English kings and king wanna-bes, and maybe the Welsh Wars of Independence. York is no where near the Welsh border.

It snowed overnight, about 2 inches worth. We are supposed to get another inch or two tonight. Now I have to dig out before going to check on George's cats. I may skip going over today, though, because I absolutely hate driving over there when the traffic picks up in earnest. As it is now, I slip in between people already at work and the lunch-bunch. Today, I would be also dealing with the two-hour delay school buses. They will be fine since they always have plenty of dry food and water to last several days, just in case. I just looked out the window. It is snowing again.

Mary Ann

MarsGal, supposedly I have some Welsh in my background, according to me DNA, but I have not been able to find it.  An aunt thought we had some Welsh too.

Jackie, Richard has a host of experiences ahead of him if he's never stayed in a hospital.  He may like it; he may not.

It is kind of dreary out, however, no snow.

I think I'd better work a bit on my income tax.  I have a month and a half, but I don't want to end up at the last minute.  I have no idea whether I'm getting a refund or if I must pay.

Mary Ann

Vanilla-Jackie

Ha ha, Richard is a creature of habit, he likes to do what he likes, when he likes and how he likes, if you get my drift...

Mary Ann

Jackie, in other words, hospital look out!

Mary Ann

Joy

Good morning.  It is a snowy morning here, but not too bad.  Schools are on a 2 hr. delay, so they expect the weather to clear up a the morning goes on.

However, another big snow storm on the horizon for Sunday night.  Will this every be over?  I know it will, eventually.  Just seems like the weather man doesn't know it.  LOL

I need to get myself moving a little faster this morning.  Need to take some mail down to go out and pay my rent.  These months  sure do go by too fast.

Jackie, sorry about Richard's problems right now. But, I am sure he will be as good as new very soon. But, I agree,  he is in for some rude awakenings.  But, after a while, you just learn to "roll with the punches".  He will be fine!!!  I do get your "drift".

Good morning, Mars Gal, Mary Ann, Marilyne, and Patricia.  Hope everyone will have a wonderful first day of March !!!

Hi Everyone.  It is another rainy morning but the temperature is staying very nice in the mid to high 60's.  We had a very late evening last night as Scott didn't get here until after 7 pm and by the time the pizza was baked it was close to 8 pm, when I normally retire for the night.  He sleeps very well when it is raining and so he didn't hear his alarm and didn't wake up until after 6:30 and then had to go to his store and fix the pizza.  I am not sure what time he went home last evening as I had to retire around 10 pm.  He took care of several small chores for us, which we always appreciate.  I expect him back over this morning for a few minutes.  He won't stay too long as he has to go to work around 4 pm today.  I was so tired I didn't even need to drink my Chamomile tea as went to sleep and didn't get up until after 8 am and am still still exhausted.  So it will be a quiet day for me.

Mary Ann, I did feel pretty good yesterday morning but by afternoon not so good.  I still have a long way to go to get back to my old self.

Callie, I agree with you about the cloudy skies getting tiresome.  In the last couple of weeks we haven't seen much of the sun.  I think two cards in Bingo is the most I ever played at one time but many people around me had multiple cards as this was a Bingo place in the Phoenix area.

All of the postings are interesting and I could comment something on each but the morning is passing quickly and I just don't have the energy to do so.  I know you all understand.

SCFSue

Good Morning, Joy, MaryAnn, and Everyone looking in.  It's another dreary rainy day here.  My son who lives in the next town to the east will be over sometime this morning to take me to the library and Kroger for grocery shopping.  After we come home and put up the groceries we go to a favorite restaurant to meet his wife (if she is able to meet us--sometimes she is out on a job).

Last night my friend Norma picked me up to go to the Auburn Basketball Arena for our last women's home game of the year (we have 2 more away games scheduled which hopefully will be broadcast on TV).  We were playing South Carolina which was where I graduated in 1958.  I chatted with the President of USC and his lovely wife as well as some of the other attendees.  Unfortunately, Carolina won, but not by much.  Our girls played very well, but Carolina women outplayed us.

Have a nice day, Every one.
Sue

P.S.  Larry, you were posting while I was writing.  I'm glad to see your post and hope you are resting comfortably and are feeling better.

Larry, it's always good to see a long post from you as is shows you are feeling "tolerable".

I can't really see outside from where I sit because I have a louvered blind on the window and the sun doesn't shine in until noon and then I can't use the computer or see on the TV because the sun is so bright but I think the sun is trying to shine.

Sue, it is nice your son can take you to buy groceries.  I've told about our grocery setup so I won't go into detail again, but we order online and Tom lets the store know when he will be there to pick up the order, they call (or e-mail) when it's ready and he picks up the order.  So far I've been pleased with the produce.

I have some cube steaks that I want to remember to fix today; let Tom off the cooking hook.  If he's not here for supper, I'll have the second one tomorrow.

Jackie, my family has always told me I am going to live forever.  Of course, I know better, but I have five years and a couple of months to 100.  I do not have any goals now, except to get to 95.  So far, three family members have died, all younger than I.

Mary Ann

Vanilla-Jackie

If he does he will be the first one, the only one in our family who will have received a card from our Queen, or Prince Charles would be the next one to hand them out, even though he is now getting on a bit at 70 and would himself be 96 by then..

Good morning from the Interior where the weather is still the same, wet and humid but the pressure has stabilized as the pain is gone. Farrah has an impending dental appointment on the 4th where she will be put under so they can deal with her dental issues.

MarsGal, I was told that by my paternal relatives and by looking it up, there are some discrepancies about whether the ancient Picts were only Scottish forebearers and Picts were not the only guerrilla fighters. It turns out that many of the Celtic warriors painted themselves blue and fought naked to terrorize their enemies at least up to the fifth century or times of Caesar. Celts came from France, Germany, (Gauls); and Central Europe by way of the Russian Steppes.

Wikipedia states but isn't reliable, that "Most people in Scotland, Ireland and Wales were assumed to be descended from Celtic farming tribes who migrated here from central Europe up to 6,500 years ago. The English were thought to largely take their genetic line from the Anglo-Saxon invaders of the Dark Ages who supposedly wiped out the Celts in England."

The connection between Wales and York has to do with the house of York and the War of the Roses altho I have no real info on that.

I have Irish on my maternal side with 4% Norwegian according to Ancestry.com which certainly fits under Viking raiders and the Irish coastal tales. My paternal line is Scottish, (Johnston), and Welsh, (Hewes, Davies, and Thomas). Ancestery.com only reinforced what my family has always said from both sides. I think in a way I was hoping to hear something unusual, but evidently, we were just a group of farmers following the crops.

Jackie, Richard may be due for some rude awakenings if he is used to having it his way.

My taxes were brief and compiled with help by the Services Coordinator here. Now I just need to mail them in. That seems to be a thankless job as we were informed that this one which only lasted two months, will be leaving by the first of March. It is the third one in 13 months.

Larry, so nice that you are feeling better and know that rest is the most important part for probably quite some time as yet. It is always good to see your posts.

MaryAnn, On my father's side, he was one of sixteen of which twelve lived to adulthood with the majority, (eight boys, four girls); living into their late eighties. However, the firstborn, Kermit, outlived them all and died at a hundred and two. That must have been strange to be the first and also the last.

My mother was one of twelve but only three lived into adulthood. In the early to mid nineteen hundred, flu or Consumption; was a terrible killer.

I'm hoping that everyone has a good day and good morning to all who look in.

FlaJean

We"re having an overcast but warm day.  The sun peeks out once in a while.  The morning has flown by and I have accomplished exactly nothing since fixing breakfast.  We have a very simple breakfast so preparing it hardly counts.

I need to put down my iPad and get busy.  Hope everyone is having a good day!

Mary Ann

Jean, like so many people think Alaska is 100% snowbound, people also think of Florida as "sunny".  I am now watching golf from Palm Beach Gardens (and I have no idea where that is, except I think it's on the Atlantic coast).

Patricia, I've probably told this many times, but my maternal 3rd great grandfather lived to 106 years and 9 months.  At one time we thought he was the oldest and last of the Revolutionary soldiers, but he was at least one of the last six survivors.  His name was Lemuel Cook and lived at Clarendon NY for his last many years.  I have seen his grave and the last home he had.  Any other longevity seems to come from Dad's side of the family with my paternal grandmother living 92 years, a paternal male cousin was almost 98, but his mother (aunt by marriage) was 100 and 5 months.  My one remaining cousin is from Dad's side and she will be 92 later this month.

I buy Turbo Tax and do my income tax myself.  I do have some investments, but with 1099DIV it's easy to do my taxes.

When Tom and I went to Boulder Creek Golf Course for lunch yesterday, I brought home a container of Napa Salad, a specialty of their restaurants.  I had the first installment last night and finished it this noon.  The good taste is in the sauce they put on it and I was given enough to use with both portions.  The salad part is cut-up-fine Napa cabbage with small pieces of green onion and chow mein noodles.  The sauce is syrup, oil and sugar - I don't know what kind of syrup but I think it is a salad dressing like a flavored vinaigrette.

I've been trying to print some bank statements on my next older computer and I am told there is no program associated with it - to me that means the bank doesn't have a print program - but only on that computer.  My printer is not compatible with this computer and I have to send the copy to Tom.  So I guess that is what I'll do!

Blabbbermouth strikes again!

Mary Ann

Marilyne

I've been away all morning, doing a small amount of shopping before the weekend officially arrives. We rarely go anywhere on Saturday or Sunday, because stores and restaurants are just too crowded, and it's hard to stand in those long lines.  I went to Sprouts, to get a few things, then to CVS to pick up a prescription, and pick out some birthday cards.  It always takes me forever, to select greeting cards for any occasion, so I was gone much longer than usual.

Patricia - I've been wondering when Farrah would be having her dental work done.  I'll be thinking about her on Monday, and hoping that all goes well.
Your dad was one of 16 children! Wow, that beats my maternal grandmother, who was one of 13 children - 7 girls and 6 boys. All born in Nevada mining camps, that were like small communities back then.  Now they are ghost towns.  Of the 13, one boy died when he was a baby, and one girl died at 10 years old.  The rest lived into adulthood, and all the women, except for one, lived into their 80's.  My grandmother died at age 83.

Mary Ann - I'm impressed that you're doing so well at your age! Others in their 90's here in S&F are doing well also. Do you remember Junee? I think she is now 96 or 97?  She's one of my Facebook friends, so I see her posting a message or a comment there quite often.  I wish she still posted here in S&F, but I think she was one who left after the last upgrade.

MaryAnn, most of the folks on both sides of my family tree seem to feel like reaching the late eighties is good enough. Quite a few are fond of checking out at age 87. Hmmmm.

In another OMG moment, Arizona Republican lawmaker, State Rep Kelly Townsend says that making people get vaccinated is what Communists do.  " Dearest friends and people of Arizona, it seems we are prepared to give up our liberty, the very sovereignty of our body, because of measles. I read yesterday that the idea is being floated that if not enough people get vaccinated, then we are going to force them to. The notion that we force someone to give up their liberty for the sake of the collective is not based on American values but rather, Communist.

She later explained her insanity to the Washington Post:
"My child is at risk from being injured from a vaccine, and your child is potentially at risk if my son catches something," she told The Post. "Whose child is more important? Where's the line?"'
