Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Marilyne...count me in your club....i am a complete worrier but, i am realistic about the things that may, or may not happen, the things that could go wrong...i work it out all in advance so i will be prepared for it...if it was to happen..

Tomereader1

Marilyne, my "ear worm" song for yesterday was the Andrew Sisters (or whoever) singing the "hut sut rawlson with a brawla brawla suet".  Those are close but not actually the words which I looked up yesterday and immediately forgot how to spell 'em!

Sorry your energy level is one or two.  Mine has been fluctuating over the last couple of days...the rain and gloominess ain't helpin' none!

I did my 13 bean soup yesterday, made some cornbread muffins to go with and pigged out, so my energy level was way up.  I had some for lunch today, and took a container over to my friend/neighbor as she especially loves that bean soup.  I put sweet potatoes in this time, which was a wonderful addition.

If you can't get the "HamBeens" version at your store, you can order Bob's Red Mill 13 Bean Soup Mix.I think I ordered Amazon.  It is high fiber, and non-GMO.  It can be cooked on your stovetop, in your Slow Cooker or your Multi-Cooker.  If you've a mind to, you can make 13 bean Chili (recipe's on the package). It has every kind of bean you've ever seen or heard of!  I just soaked the beans overnight in some salted water (add a pinch of baking soda to take the noise out of the beans); then rinse the beans, add whatever seasonings you like, also veggies if you want, I just happened to have sweet potato lying around, so used that. Cook according to pkg. instructions.  One cup of the beans makes a large pot. My slow cooker 4 qt. was way full, with water added of course.  Making myself hungry again. (You can use broth instead of water).

How are the shelves in your grocery store lately?  For awhile, there were lots of empty shelves, but last tuesday (guess the trucks came in) and all shelves were stocked clear to the front edge.  Dropped in yesterday for couple items, and they were dwindling back fast!

Hope you and AJ are doing well.  Take care, stay healthy.

We also put out a big bowl of candy on the front porch and a sign.  They have a limit here in the county of trick or treat from 6 to 8, and the kids are so polite.  We have a lot of young military families in our area so lots of little kids.

All the talk of these "procedures" gives me a scary feeling and I sure hope all goes well for you, MaryPage and Shirley.

We will be going to standard time next week.  Our state voted a couple of years ago to go to year round standard time, but it seems it is up to Congress for that to happen, due to a 1966 law passed by Congress.

Today was a beautiful day.

Marilyne

Joanne/Tome -  The 13 bean soup, was a favorite of mine, and also with my family . . .  many long years ago.  I would guess it's been 25 years since I last made it, in my long gone crock pot.  I have a difficult time with any high fiber food, in my old age - however, I am interested in the addition of the baking soda!   Never heard of it, but sounds like a a great idea.

Yes, some shelves in our grocery stores are pretty well stripped.  Looks like they are all running out of paper products again.  Also, young families are complaining that there are no disposable diapers!   Wow, that would be a hard one for mothers and caregivers to deal with in today's world!   I'm
sure very few families have any old fashioned cloth diapers, and probably have never pinned a diaper on a baby! Not to mention dealing with the dirty ones!  :yikes:

Jean -  I like your new avatar very much!  It looks like you're reading a book, which is something I know you enjoy doing.  We also voted for year around Standard time here in California, and it passed overwhelmingly.  Then we find out that it was an exercise in futility, because it is a Federal issue, and has to be voted on and passed by Congress.  So the question is . . . why was it even on the ballot?    What a waste of money.

Duplicated: loads of bangs, fireworks and flashes going on around my home, oh those poor birds and wild animals...they must be absolutely terrified...the loud bangs are even making me jump with nerves...hate to think what it does to pets, cats and dogs...Times have changed when all we had were ( Brocks ) Sparklers, Roman Candles, Catherine Wheels, Jumping Jacks...

Marilyne, et.al. I found this explanation regarding time change from the National Conference of State Legislatures. https://www.ncsl.org/research/transportation/daylight-savings-time-state-legislation.aspx

Marilyne

MarsGal -  Thanks for posting the official info on Daylight Saving Time.   Every November and March, people complain about the time change, and can't figure why something hasn't been done about it.  I voted for Standard Time, year around,  but I understand that most people prefer DST.   That would be acceptable to me . . . anything would be preferable to this switching back and forth, twice a year!    One interesting thing that I don't think the link addressed, is why both Arizona and Hawaii, are allowed to be on Standard time, but the rest of us aren't?

Jackie -  sounds like Guy Fawkes Day, has gotten a bit out of control, just as Fourth of July has, here in our country.  Once again the blame is placed on the internet, where people can buy high powered, loud and dangerous fireworks, from other countries.  I liked the days when we were happy with sparklers and colorful Safe and Sane family boxes.

Marilyne..some of these public firework displays are spectacular, we used to go to some of them...but you often get some let off before and after November 5th...there are some going off now...Nowadays they are more powerful and go on much longer..

CallieOK

I'm sitting on my patio resting after trimming back two hostas, putting trimmings in trash and filling the bird feeder and suet feeder. I think the birds were watching because 2 cardinals and some sparrows have already appeared.

Not sure how long I'll stay out because, although I have on a warm jacket, the breeze has picked up and it will probably get too chilly. It's lovely to be out for a while.

Callie...that is something i used to do every morning, was to fill up 3 bird feeders and change the water in the bird bath...blackbirds and starlings were my favourites...

Marilyne

Hi Callie and Jackie -  I also put fresh water in the birdbath every day, and then fill the bird feeder.  Our backyard is large, so it gives me a bit of  exercise to walk around and inspect things, and then down the side steps to the front yard to get the mail, and water a few potted plants.  Our weather is mild enough in the Winter, that I'm usually comfortable with a jacket and a hat.

This afternoon I will either read, or watch a movie on TV.  I should do something worthwhile, like cleaning out the messy linen closet, or fixing something nice for tonight's dinner, but that won't be happening today.  Maybe tomorrow?  :-\  ::)

I hope we hear from FlaJean again soon?  Also, Jenny, Mary Page, Rick, Joanne, Sandy, Shirley, and anyone else who feels like saying hello!

Tomereader1

Hello!  To Marilyne from Joanne!  I'm still here, chugging along.  Including today, we have had two glorious days in a row!  Mild temps, sunshine and improving outlooks from the two days of almost continuous rain (which we needed, so I'm not griping)!

I'm concerned, but prayerful, about our folks who are prepping for surgeries, ones who have not posted (that's always a worry), and ones who have weather conditions that present other concerns.

My neighbor fellow got a good laugh last week.  I had not seen his automobile for 3 days, him or  nor his wife.  So I texted him
"is everyone all right over there, I've not seen your car in the driveway"?  He has underlying health problems, as does his wife, and I just never know if the absence of a vehicle implies that he is parked in a hospital parking lot, while sitting at the bedside of his wife; or vice versa.  Turns out, his vehicle was in the shop for repairs, and all was well! In our neighborhood there is a predominance of seniors, and I try to keep in touch if only by text message.  He usually tries to check on me, somewhat infrequently, but appreciated just the same.  We do have several widows here in this two block area, and have sort of a "text circle" to see to health, grocery store needs, safety, etc.

Seems like there are so many of our members here needing our Care and Prayer, so without listing the names (you know who you are), Godspeed and Blessings for all the days ahead!

MaryPage

Hello to all.

I missed my nap today, and now I am wondering if I'll be able to stay awake to watch Saturday Night Live.  Oh well, not a Big problem; I can always watch it on On Demand.

Feeling a leetle bit annoyed because there is to be no World News tonight.  Apparently sports followers explode their tempers with the networks more avidly than do we news junkies; so the news loses out.  The order of the day is apparently not just "Let the games begin," but let them go on, and on, and on.

I'll be getting up Wednesday morning at 4:00 and Chip & I will pull out of the parking lot here at 5:00.  Unless the weather is bad or there is an accident on the Beltway, we should be parked in the hospital parking garage by 6:00 or a mite earlier.  I plan to pack for the 3 to 5 days they told me to expect, and hope for the 2 days I might be lucky enough to recuperate to.

Granddaughter Kathryn has been to hospital twice in the last couple of weeks.  They sent her home both times: Ava's little sister is messing with her.  Now, unless my 28th great grandchild insists on her own scheduling, Kathryn is to go in by appointment tomorrow.  John will take Ava over to Debi's first, and they will plan on having her for a least a few days.

Nice to hear about folk caring about and looking out for one another.  I think Life is all about our doing that with everyone else, everywhere, all the time.

Enjoy a good night's sleep!

Beverly

These past weeks have been difficult. Chapin, the love of my life, passed away at 8:30 p.m last night. I had prayed I'd be with him when the time came and I was. Our children were there too. I will try to write more soon.

CallieOK

Oh, Beverly, I am so sorry to learn about Chape. My love, sympathy and condolences to you.

Dear Beverly - So sorry to see the sad news of Chape's passing.  You and Chape were married for almost 65 years, and I know you will miss him every day, for the rest of your life.  I will be thinking about you tonight, and praying for you, and for your family.

patricia19

Bev, my condolences and I'm so sorry to read about Chape's sudden passing.

Shirley

I am so sorry to read about Chape, Beverly. I am surprised, you didn't sound like this was expected, but probably always in the back of your mind at our ages. Good that you have family around, the mind has to cope with so much so fast. Thoughts and prayers are with you. I am glad you could be with him when that time came, a comfort to have him know your love was with him to his last breath.

Duplicated:
I have never felt so shocked as i am today...In church our female minister mentioned our news this week, no she did not go into detail just mentioned the shocking news this week, one was of a hospital...As i dont listen to tv news anymore i had no idea what story she was referring to so looked it up on my computer and, oh i have never been so shocked and sickened before, this person is the lowest of the lowest...He was an electrician in the hospital and went into the mortuary sexually abusing 99 " corpses, " even children...I hope they throw away his key...

MaryPage

Beverly, how very, very sad for you and your family.  This is the pain that never goes away, but you learn to adjust yourself to.  My sympathy is deep and wide and I wish you and yours the comfort of the memories you have each collected over the many years you were allotted with him.

FlaJean

Beverly, I am so sorry to hear about Chape's passing.  So good to know you had your loved ones by your side.  God bless you and your family.

I haven't checked in for several days.  The weather here is so nice this time of the year.  We are finally getting our fall temperatures.

Hope all of you are doing well.

FlaJean...good to see a posting from you, have you been out and about in your nice weather..Jenny, where are you, no posts from you in the last 8 days..are you with your Colorado son.. ???

FlaJean

Jackie, I'm sitting in my easy chair in the living room enjoying the cool breeze coming in the open doors.  Larry and I are both doing what we enjoy most in the evenings, reading a good book.

Carol

I believe I "found you" again.  Hoorah! I have all my jabs including the annual flu shot.  It has been years since we were sick with flu.  My main concern here at this time is the careless and fast driving from teens in the close neighborhood - roaring through a couple of blocks of open space - where the deer and antelope play.  Our fence was damaged  and several other home owners have had the same issues - at least so far the houses have not been damaged.  My idea is to ask the sheriff for lunch with a couple of other concerned neighbors on a way to slow these childish drivers.  We shall see.

Janet:  I haven't seen you for a long time.  Good to find your post.  For some reason I could not get back for such a long time.

Take care all!

A good Monday HELLO.

I am sorry I have not been in for a bit.  I have been busy with physical therapy and the pain associated with this.  My 2 kids moving here and there has me on pins and needles as well.

Sweet MARILYN sent email and told me about the passing of Chape.  I am so heartbroken for you, Beverly.

Thank you, JACKIE, for missing me.  I did not think I had been missing for that long, but the way time flies....who knows? Horrifying news about what that nasty creature did!

I have continued prayers for Chape, Jane and MARYPAGE.  I hope and pray Jane's surgery went well today and she is resting comfortably tonight as she gains her strength to get home soon.

MARYPAGE. stay strong and get this needed procedure over and done. Prayers for you and your surgeon to get through this and let you start your recovery.  Can not wait to have you back posting🥰

Rick, I hope the good heavy frost has taken care of your allergies 😘

JEAN, so nice to see YOU in your avatar. Glad you two are doing well.

Carol, nice to see your post.  We sure are having some wonderful weather, but we need moisture so badly.

SHIRLEY,  I always hold you in my thoughts and prayers but especially right now with the concerns and thoughts about if and when you will feel OK to move forward with your surgery.

PHYLLIS, I am sorry to read you have been in the hospital.  I do hope you continue to get stronger so you can go home🥰

Seems I did not post what I wrote earlier today, so best hit POST now.

Pleasant dreams to all.
