Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Good Morning,

Marilyne,  I do remember "Switched At Birth" and Marlee Matlin's role.  Have seen her in several other shows, also.
I learned about the deaf football team when they were the "Persons of the Week" on the ABC National News the week before the Super Bowl.

I recorded Episode 4 of "The Gilded Age" on Monday night because I just couldn't stay awake to watch the 11:00 p.m. broadcast.  Apparently, HBO has an "HBO East" and an "HBO West" and we don't get the earlier broadcasts. Something about Tammy Faye Whatshername was on at the time MaryPage mentioned watching TGA.

I did watch the recording last night and, while I think the story line is a bit predictable and the actors aren't delivering their lines "with feeling" (probably the director's instructions), I am enjoying the fashions and the settings.  Will keep watching, though.  I like this kind of drama show.

Have always enjoyed the Olympics but just can't get interested this time.  Not sure why - maybe because there seem to be commercials and/or commentaries every 30 minutes.

We're having 70º temperatures but the weather gurus (and my "squeaks and creaks") say that will change tonight/tomorrow.  Oklahoma gets warm winds from the Gulf of Mexico bumping into cold winds from the Arctic and they seem to "battle it out" across the state. Have even seen predictions of possible "weak" (?) tornadoes in the southeastern part.

Plan du Jour is to make slider sandwiches and work on tax organizer for accountant.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Oh, about forgot to mention to Marilyne that report on the Eagle webcam was that an egg was laid yesterday morning.   On my way to check it out now.

FlaJean

Thanks so much for the birthday greetings.  I had felt bad a couple of days before my birthday and then it hit me on my birthday.  I had chills so bad my teeth were chattering   Stayed in bed and then during the night woke up completely drenched in perspiration.  That must have been good because Tuesday morning I felt much better.  Today I felt almost normal.

Today I still didn't feel like going out to eat so we ordered roast beef dinners from Cracker Barrel and drove over and did a pickup.  It was very good and we have enough left for tomorrow.  My son and daughter sent me two boxes of Godiva——-so good.

Thanks again all of you for the Happy Birthdays.  So nice to hear from you.  We can always count on our Senior Friends can't we?

Jackie, what a lovely graphic.

Marilyne

Jean - Sorry you were so sick on your birthday.   I'm sure the first thing that popped into your mind, was Covid!  :yikes:  I'm glad that wasn't the case, and that you're feeling much better now.

Still morning here, so looks like a  long day ahead for me.  I woke up very early, and got up when it was still dark, so seems like the day should be over - but still plenty of hours ahead.  I have a dermatologist appointment this afternoon at 2:30, which is never a pleasant thing to look forward to.  The waiting room is always filled with people wearing masks, looking down at their phones, and hoping they'll be called next.  So I will join them, and check in on S&F while I'm sitting there.

That's all for now.  Hope to see lots of messages here when I return.

FlaJean

Marilyne, first thing I thought of was Covid!  I had sent for the test kits so Tuesday I took the test and was negative.  These test kits are from Abbot and supposed to be good ones.

It is very likely Gigi's husband has prostate cancer.  The doctor wants to do another biopsy while he is getting an MRI.  I don't understand how that will work.  I hope they know what they are doing.  And Gigi had to put their little 15 year old dog to sleep.  Poor little guy was in so much pain.

Larry had one bad cancer cell removed from his neck several years ago.  Thankfully it never came back.  At his last visit several months ago, the doctor said he didn't need to come back unless he had a problem.  He had been going to the dermatologist for about 5 years.

I hate posting health news but that's the way it is sometimes.  Today is fairly warm but overcast after having two beautiful sunny days.  The weather just isn't as nice here as it was in central Florida——too much rain.  It seems today I am just an old complainer.  So forgive me please.  I hope Marilyne's doctor's visit goes well.

Hope you are all having a good day.

Vanilla-Jackie

FlaJean...
...just wished i could have sent you real ones ( flowers )... :rose:

Tomereader1

Jackie, so good to see you posting! You must have found a really active community with people and places to keep you busy!  Good on you!

Vanilla-Jackie

MarsGal

Jackie, I sure hope you haven't blown away in all that wind. I watched some of the clips on YouTube, especially the planes trying to land. Terrifying for both passengers and crew. Very brave pilots.

Marilyne

Jean - Glad you'e feeling better, but sorry that Gigi's husband has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.  Lots of successful treatments available now, compared to in the past. Best wishes to him, that it will be taken care of as soon as possible.  Like you, I hate to post "health news", but as seniors, much of our time is spent dealing with the seemingly endless health issues, and doctor visits.  One problem gets taken care of, and before long another one appears that has to be dealt with.  I guess that's the price we pay for living a long time.

Callie - Like you, I haven't been as interested in the Olympics, as I had been in past years.  Too many controversies now, what with the Russian skater scandal, and many people still complaining about the fact that the games are taking place in China.  ::)    I lost interest in the skating, once the Ice Dancing was finished. This year, I enjoyed the Bobsled, Luge, and Skelton, more than anything else. Quite thrilling to watch all three.

Jackie - Hope to see you posting here more often. Also hope that your MS is fairly well under control for now?  I know it never goes away, but sometimes goes into remission.

MaryPage

Cold here, but very clear.  I got some big chores done yesterday and today, and am feeling the relief of a nagging conscience that you can Finally sweep out the door, so to speak.  I am sure you each know THAT feelingQ

Still have myself a list, but it is marvelously less weighty, and I can watch the 3rd wedding veil movie on Hallmark this evening, followed by some more CROWN on Netflix.  Fun!

I even plan to steal a couple of Chip's stash of Dark Chocolate covered Honey Grahams with SEA SALT.  Now, I have always though Trader Joe's the finest emporium in this land; but these are the best thing since popovers.  Woo hoo!

MaryPage

Some days ago I posted in here about one of my daughters (I have 5) suffering with SEBO, a gut disease most of you had not heard about.

Debi sent me this new report about it, and I think you will be interested:

https://ktla.com/morning-news/underdiagnosed-gut-health-issue-sibo-affects-millions/?fbclid=IwAR3TtNnv4vhA6M7MzaKO479Lwl3XN9T64Jw6gDJ7le74MR6A35CVW3mTEUA

Marilyne

Mary Page -  Very interesting report about SIBO.  I would like to read the book, when it becomes available. Sounds like the doctor has discovered something new, that will help all who suffer from this debilitating illness.  Whatever it is, I hope that it will be helpful for your daughter, Debi.

I've been thinking about you, and wondering how you're feeling, since you started with the oxygen?    Much easier breathing, I hope?

Also, I took note of your comment about Trader Joe's Honey Grahams with Sea Salt.   Makes me want to visit TJ's, and buy a box.   We have a store here in town, but I haven't been since the Pandemic started.  It's a small store, and is constantly packed with customers.   Always a long wait to check out, with only two cash registers.  I like everything I
I've ever purchased there, and will try to get back as soon as things calm down a bit.  Masks still required here, inside all stores, restaurants, schools, and everything else.

MaryPage

MARILYNE, the honey grahams are small.  Not as large as regular grahams or saltines, but larger than Wheat Thins.  They are covered in delicious dark chocolate, sprinkled with sea salt. They come in smallish bags, which are brown & dark beige in color.  They cause serious addiction, but it would be a great pity to live a whole life and never experience the sensation of enjoying at LEAST one!

MarsGal

Trader Joe's. We are getting one close by, in Camp Hill. It should be open "before July 4th" according to a news report.

What bugs me a little is that the several grocery stores we had nearby for years have closed up either for good or moved to a new location farther away over the years I've lived here. Of course Trader Joe's is opening on the other side of Camp Hill. So it goes. They tend to cluster in high traffic areas and around areas where people with higher income live. Makes sense from a business point of view, but it is mighty unhandy at times. While I have used a grocery delivery service occasionally, I much prefer to do my own grocery shopping.

What we did gain is a is satellite PennDot center so I don't have to drive across the river to get my driver's license renewed, etc. and most recently, a Tractor Supply store. I expect to visit them again soon for the mulch I need to repair my flower bed around the porch. Otherwise, I would have to go over to Lowe's or Home Depot which are in a very high traffic area that I avoid unless necessary. They are both just off an expressway where people have to do a lot of lane switching to get on and off the expressway, to the Navy depot, and to all the businesses clustered there. If you don't time it just right you have wall to wall traffic and very little time to cross lanes to get where you need to go, even with all the lights.

I guess I just like open spaces with few or no crowds. Even my "backdoor" way into some of the stores along the "pike" are becoming crowded since Hampden Township continues to allow more and more housing developments and recently, another hospital (across Rt 81 from one build not more than 10 years ago) and more office buildings. Even my bank is building a huge new headquarters building. Oh, the two hospitals, the two grocery stores, the new bank headquarters, a new daycare center, and it looks like a few more smaller buildings being built all empty out onto what was a two lane country road. All of this is right beside a highway exit/entrance. Except for just around the new construction and the expressway, it remains so, but with all the extra traffic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z_SOobHOw4

Marilyne

MarsGal - Your general area, sounds a lot like mine.  Meaning: constant building and remodeling, stores expanding, or moving from one spot to another, traffic becoming gridlocked, etc.  I think you'll like Trader Joe's, when it opens.  Unique packaged or frozen food items, that you never see anywhere else.  The fresh veggie and fruit selection is bad at my TJ's, but probably because the store itself is so small, there is no room for a produce section.   I rarely go there, even before Covid.  Just too crowded for me.  Mostly young shoppers in a hurry.  However, I will make a point of going soon, to try some of the chocolate covered grahams, that Mary Page recommended!

MaryPage

Marilyne, you are going to swoon!

MarsGal, do you live in or near Camp Hill?  Pennsylvania?"  If so, I know it well.  I spent a lot of time visiting with cousins who lived there in the nineteen-forties. They got married, moved elsewhere, and died.  I was with them on VJDay, and we all piled into cars and went over the bridge into Harrisburg and marched in the streets and yelled and chanted and sang for hours.  I got back to Camp Hill with gifts of TWO sailor caps from two sailors.

Every town, large or small, was out in the street yelling that night.  Oh, what a thrilling relief that gave this country!

MarsGal

I am just up river from Camp Hill a few miles, MaryPage.

Been seeing some Bald Eagles off and on for a month now, and just the other day, I think I was some Ravens heading up the creek. My sister says she saw some Robins in her yard the other day, but I haven't seen them here yet. Haven't heard them either. It's pretty quiet here, birdwise. Right now, it is 63o and the sun is shining.

Marilyne

Let's see . . . it's been a little over 6 months since we ended the War in Afghanistan?   So time for a new war to begin, and take its place.  >:(    Got up early this morning, and immediately turned on TV, to see if Putin, had invaded Ukraine.  Sure enough - he's been threatening for weeks, and has followed through.    Now what?    We sit back and watch the action?  ::)

Anyone who wants to see fair and unbiased reporting on this latest turmoil - go online to the Wall Street Journal.
Other than that, too early to talk about anything else.  Oh yeah - the Stock Market took a major plunge.  No big suprise there.  :'(

The usual stuff here - cold windy Winter weather.  No rain in sight - last drop here was 55 or 60 days ago.  Dry dirty air, causes major allergy problems.    I think I'll just go back to bed and start the day again in a few hours.  Maybe it will look better?

CallieOK

Good Morning,

We're "sleeted in" again today.  Sun is shining but temperature is 16º and feels like 10º.

Rick (Rammel),  I am really enjoying watching the various bird feeders you posted a link to (to which you posted a link?? <can see my h.s. English teacher shaking her head  ;D >) Looks as if more than the Oklahoma eagle mama have settled in to wait for eggs hatching.

I saw the 5 pairs of cardinals at my feeder yesterday.  Hope they don't eat up the seed too fast because I can't get out to fill the feeder without slipping and sliding.

Marilyne,  the t.v. show I was watching last night was interrupted by a lengthy report (and, of course, even lengthier commentary./opinions) on the invasion of Ukraine.  Fortunately, our local station returned to the regular show afterwards - even though it delayed the local "news".
I haven't even had the t.v. on yet this morning.

Have caught up with Domestic Duties so started another "desk project".  I have quite a few heirlooms from various relatives from both late hubby's/my families.  All My Children (and The Grands) started asking who/where/when about things so I began an "Heirloom Album".  Still had pictures with no story so have begun catching up with those.  Problem is that now I can't always remember "who" so can't provide the "where/when" on some of the small items - and one trunk.  ???

That's it from my corner of the world.

FlaJean

The sun is shining and the temps will be in low 70s this week.

Stay safe and hope all of our posters are having a healthy day.

MarsGal

Cold, getting snow flurries. Doing some house chores and reading. That's about it for today.

Tomereader1

I think the worst is over here.  We had freezing and below temps since Wednesday and the roads and overpasses were ice rinks.  Not many people went anywhere.  Ones that did, mostly got stuck or had a crash.  Yesterday afternoon, my patio had all melted off, and suddenly out of nowhere, it began to SNOW! Covered all the grassy areas and roofs, and quit shortly thereafter.  Today was another ice melt day, and tomorrow is supposed to be rain all day (we need the moisture). Then for next week, temps in the 60's and 70's.  Howzat for changing weather! Kind of par for Texas!  Hope everyone is doing well.  Stay warm!

Tomereader1

Oh, for my semi-annual anecdote:
Heard a loud thump in the kitchen after I had gone to bed last night.  Got up to check.  Nothing obvious, opened the pantry doors and one of the shelves had collapsed; the one with all the canned goods.  Guess it got too heavy.  Today I took everything out, tried to figure how I could put all the stuff back, since the shelf seemed to prefer staying on a slant.  The shelf support had kind of opened the hole up and didn't want to stay in that one.  I had to locate my box of shelf supports and move the shelf up to the next level (about l 1/2" and replace all the items.  The shelf underneath it can now store "taller" items, but can't double stack the canned goods anymore.I guess when the spirit moves me, I will get everything off that shelf, and re-arrange everything.  I had that stuff actually organized, i.e. baking needs, pastas and rices, etc. So, said Scarlett, I'll think about that tomorrow!

MarsGal

It is always disturbing to hear strange noises in the middle of the night.

Sue's birthday today. Later today we will be heading over to Red Lobster for, surprise, lobster. She loves it. I never thought it anything special.

Allergy season appears to have begun already for me.  My ears are itching and my nose is getting stuffy.

FlaJean

Allergy season has started here also, Marsgal.

It was warm a few days but now a few cold days.  Both the recent big rain storms missed us and went north so we have had some sunny days.

Lots going on in the world.  Hope all of you are having a good day.

Marilyne

Good Morning to Tome, MarsGal, and Jean:
Good to see some messages here today.

Tome, your post made me think of that poem or children's book  - "Things That go Bump in the Night".  Knowing you're there alone, I think it was brave of you to get up and check it out!  I'm quite sure I would have pulled the covers over my head, and waited until morning!

MarsGal, hope you had a nice Birthday Dinner with Sue, at Red Lobster.  Unfortunately,  "The Last night at the Lobster",  occurred here a couple of years ago.  (Remember that book? I liked it very much, and I recall that we discussed it in the Book folder?)   Anyway, all of those restaurants closed here a couple of years ago here - along with, The Outback Steakhouse.    I don't know why they closed, but I do miss my favorite dish at the Outback . . . the Alice Springs Chicken.

Jean,  If I remember correctly, you were also a fan of Alice Springs Chicken?   I hope it's still on the menu, in case the restaurant ever reopens here again.    Hope that your daughter's husband is doing well, and  has received a good prognosis for his prostate cancer?    Yes, lots going on in the world.  I brought it up in here a couple of days ago, but no one responded.

Denver

A good Saturday afternoon hello to all.  I have not been able to get in here for quite sometime.... Lost the log in page....seems gremlins are against me🤪🤪

We just finished a week of very cold temperatures.  Not much white stuff to count on,but a bit here and there every day.  Glad it has moved on and we have warmer temperatures to look forward to this week 😻

Dermatologist called....there was not a deep enough sample for pathology to get a good reading on, so now
I have to go back and get another one done😩😩

Surgeon agreed with myPT in that a nerve test is in order to find out what we are dealing with.  I will not bore you with the problems
I have had getting this EMG test appointment made.  A two month wait to SEE the doctor that would do it then another month until the procedure done.  I just felt this was not the best nor my only choice to accomplish this, so I kept calling the surgeons office with my concerns and yesterday they finally did get involved and now my doctor just ordered the test and I will have it done in a month with nor prior jetting with the doctor that will do the test‼️‼️  So discouraging....I will be getting done on the one year anniversary of the day I fell in Tulsa.....What a LONG year it has been🌚

I wish you all a good rest of your day.  I miss reading the posts, so I just have to be diligent in making my way back in here🤪🤪

Marilyne, I awake to almost any noise, and if my sleeping mind doesn't recognize it, I'm up and doing a "night watchman's walk-through".  I don't always get a good night's sleep, in example, last night.  Went to bed fairly early, slept my usual 2 hour before the "facilities" beckoned.  Darn, I wish I had a heated toilet seat.  With the 28 degree temps, and that bathroom on the North side of the house, it is a wakeup call in itself. Needless to say, I was awake for another hour or so, dropped back off and neighbor or her son, came in late and was revving his engine. I'd love to tell him not to do that, as he just had to have a new transmission put in the vehicle, and all that revving will not serve his engine well either. (wife of mechanic for 56 years, so I know that for a fact). As far as Red Lobster is concerned, my favorite place to splurge.  As you know, hubby and I and daughter used to do all our celebrations there.  I read that book, and loved it "Last Night at the Lobster".

MarsGal

Marilyne, you can still make your own Alice Springs Chicken. YouTube has some videos available. Here is one of them. https://www.alyonascooking.com/wprm_print/14995 It took me a little while to find a printable copy. There are several websites that have this recipe and videos (including YouTube). I don't see it on Red Lobster's menu, but I did note that several of the recipes I found on the net list themselves as "updated".

Lunch was very good. We both had the Lobster-Topped Seafood Stuffed Flounder. There wasn't much stuffing, but the fish melted right in my mouth. No, I don't remember the book. It is still in print and Audible has an audio version too. It looks interesting.

I sympathize with you Jenny. It has been a long year for you and still no real resolution. Plus, I don't know about you, but I very much dislike having to go back and fourth for appointments in the winter, even for relatively short trips.

FlaJean

Marilyne, it was good to see your post after a couple of days.  I hope your hand is continuing to heal.  My son-in-law is still waiting for his MRI appointment and they are getting a little anxious.

The afternoons here are warming up but the temps go down to 50s and high 40s at night.

Larry and I have been glued to the TV to keep up with all that is going on in the world.  I won't make any comments except to say we are pro Ukraine.

I hope everyone is having a good Sunday.
