Another "Atmospheric River" last night, but this one wasn't as bad as the one in January.  The wind was wild, and continuous heavy rain all night.  We did not lose our power, so that was a good thing.    Another storm is predicted for tonight and tomorrow, and then the weather will calm down.

I see in the paper this morning that Robert Blake has passed away, at age 89.  We all remember him as the title detective character, "Baretta", in that old  TV series.  He solved crimes, with the colorful parrot sitting on his shoulder.  ::)  He was also a child actor, who was one of the kids in the "Our Gang" comedies that were popular in the '30's and '40's.  He will be mainly remembered for being charged and finally acquitted,  for the murder of his wife.  :o  A high profile trial with lots of TV coverage.

It keeps swirling around in my head: "I can't BELIEVE that's California!

We have been so extremely lucky here.  A very mild Winter.  No snow, no ice, no storms.  We have been luckier than the whole blooming South!

My word of the day today - try to repeat that a few times!

Bubble - The trigger fish, Humuhumunukunukuapua'a, is the official State fish of Hawaii.  Native Hawaiians are known for their extremely long and hard to pronounce names.  I read online about a woman who had to have her last name shortened because it was too long to fit on her drivers license!   Most people have heard of the late,  Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole: The Voice Of Hawaii.  He was known best for his ukulele-backed rendition of  Somewhere Over the Rainbow.  I have read that his recording  has been played over a billion times on YouTube!  He was a man with a standout voice and of tremendous size.

Good Morning everyone, from the cool
and cloudy,  Rocky Coast of Maine.

All is well here.
Not much going on these days.
Still wearing a mask when I go out
tryig my darndest not to get sick,
just because I don't want to pressure
my kids.      So as long as I can stay healthy
the happier everyone will be, including me.

Have a good day,  everyone!

Power still out here. Three days and two nights so far.

RAMMEL

Hope you got that generator.

Our power was restored last night, just around 9:00.  I am so grateful to the PG&E and Cal-Trans workers, who work 24/07,  during these terrible storms.  I was dreading another overnight without heat. This house is old, not insulated, and has single pane windows throughout, so cools down quickly and stays cold.  Many many others were worse off than we were, so trying not to ever complain.

This was another wild storm, that brought down trees and power poles, onto houses, cars,  and forced closure of roads and major highways.  Strongest gust measured here in town, was 88 MPH.   Hoping this was the final storm of the Winter of 2023.

Rick - Yes, our son's generator worked well, but it's the smallest size, and not big enough to plug into the furnace . . .  only big enough to use in the kitchen to keep the food in the fridge/freezer from spoiling, and a couple of other small things, which I'm thankful for.

We have been having a tough time in our family lately.  Daughter Pam came down with serious breast cancer and has been on chemotherapy.  Daughter Debi came down with Covid.  Daughter Anne's house burned down last night.  She was here, as it was her turn to take care of me.  Son Christopher came up from Fredericksburg, Virginia to take care of me.  Anne went home to Claiborne, on Maryland's Eastern Shore.  Chip was able to change his flight plans and get home tomorrow, a day earlier than planned.

We are all unharmed, and we have the strength as a family to see this through.  A neighbor saw the flames and ran over and pounded on the door and got Greg and the dog out.  We were called here and then were up all the rest of the night.  Now the insurance adjusters have been already, and Anne & Greg have had many offers, but have chosen to stay right next door in a home owned by friends for whom it is a 2nd home they use just for the summer sailing.

So Anne & Greg can have it indefinitely, and will be able to watch over the work on their house. We are told everyone in their village, population 100, was out for the fire.  It is a Great place.

This, too, shall pass.

Marilyne

Mary Page - So sorry to hear about all the troubles in your family!  Your daughter Anne's house burning down is a true catastrophe, and a tremendous shock to her and her husband.   Wonderful that they will be able to stay right next door while their house is being rebuilt.

Hoping that your daughter Pam, will do well after her chemotherapy treatments, and that Debi will have a light case of Covid.   Lots of my family members have gotten Covid, even after being fully vaccinated and boosted.

Please keep us updated on how everyone in your family is doing?

MarsGal

That is a bit much for the family to have to deal with all at once. Best wishes for everything and everyone to come out of all this in great shape.

MarsGal

All very quiet here.

I see by the Marine Traffic website that the ships are starting to wake up from their naps, so I looked up when shipping season officially starts. The Soo Locks will officially be open on March 25. The Montreal/Ontario section and the Welland Canal both opened this morning. Yipee!

My current project is to find a replacement for my recliner chair which I have been wanting to do since last year. Sue and I are planning a trip up the Carlisle Pike to several furniture stores and then a stop at Lin's Wok (her favorite) for lunch. I am contemplating a switch to a small sofa or love seat rather than another recliner, even a futon (which is what the recliner replaced). One critical need is a material that is cat resistant.

A late good morning and HELLO to all. Kind of nice out today, even though it's overcast. Temp is above 40. I keep busy paying bills - today the Rel Estate taxes for the County got done. The next biggie is the good old IRS. Still have to check and be sure I have everything that will be needed. I only want to make one trip to the guy who does my taxes. I certainly can't do it.
All the wildlife that went south for the winter seems to be back now - except the chipmunk - and he doesn't go south, but goes underground.

Time to catch up in here!  I've been reading posts every day but our weather has bounced from below freezing to 80+º - and back again - sometimes within 24 hours. This has resulted in very gloomy days with either drizzle or high winds and is not kind to my "squeaks and creaks". So I just haven't had the energy to think of things to say.

Jackie,  Belated Happy Birthday  Looks as if you celebrated in style! And so glad you're feeling better.

MaryPage,  I'm so very sorry about the issues in your family and hope things have settled down a bit.

Marilyne, one of our weather gurus went into a long explanation of the reason for the California weather issues (which have been - and will be - crossing Oklahoma).  He said it's because La Nina ( "the periodic cooling of ocean surface temperatures in the central and east-central equatorial Pacific" - according to Google  ;)) is over and El Nino hasn't started yet - so we're in a "neutral" time period. And that's causing all the storms.  ::)   The one that caused the tornado in L.A. is due here later today.

My current life is basically the necessary Domestic Duties, reading e-books, "maintenance" medical appointments and occasional family visits. No "socializing" activities.  Ho Hum.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.
