Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Ciaobella, I agree with everyone, your ornament covers are wonderful, colorful, and must look lovely on your tree or mantle.

Ciaobella

Bubble, thank you for the edit on the pic.  I don't know how to resize, do I resize it before dragging it into the square?

Rick, IrfanView?  Do you load your original pic from your computer to this site?  I have only ever had to copy & paste on other sites, so I guess I'm a bit lost with all of this. Ginny, our dear member on SeniorLearn who recently passed, had sent me directions on how to do pics to that site and to resize this is what she said:

Here's how to resize them in future:

Post it just like you did and then hit Modify.

Here is what you'll see: I will remove the first img so you can see the coding

[width=600 height=800]https://scontent-ord5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/488910388_10236930611508416_8659239630470605113_n.jpg?_nc_cat=105&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=833d8c&_nc_ohc=hhOG1zD4NC8Q7kNvwGCP3V7&_nc_oc=AdkowkJBn1qVKpPimLiUxMvdULQkNZhyNDZqdHcyZJXwxQ0ini99cFdwJds9-iGDmyyN_e8L6QLvkyjx1IP615xi&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-ord5-2.xx&_nc_gid=sv4Mj96rT0d_fJFVIaNvbg&oh=00_AfE03PRyn_yPIwiMoqOEIK0B1Tzi3aGtLnxHMJz_3NUMOg&oe=67F9C86A[/img]

You essentially want to change what's in red here. Make the first number 500, and remove all the blue bit, but be sure the ] is still there, so it looks like this:  (You want 500 to be the maximum width, otherwise everybody else has to scroll).

Thank you all for the compliments on the ornaments.  I gave away most of these bulbs to the kids and grandkids for their tree and kept a few for myself.  They did look so pretty on the tree.  I have homemade ornaments on my tree that goes back to the 1970's, and some the grands made for me.

OLM, so you made a shamrock dress!  Oh, how I would love to have seen a pic of that! I am Irish/Italian with some other European DNA and I just love celebrating St. Patrick's Day.

Barb, I will have to go take a look at the books you mention.  My grandfather was born in 1891 in Larino, Campobasso, Abruzzo/Molise, Italy and my grandmother was born in 1898 in Casacalenda, Campobasso, Abruzzo/Molise, Italy. They met when their families migrated to Canada.  They both deported from Naples, Italy on different ships at different times that first landed in Boston, they immediately got on ships to Canada. Years later they met, married and came to the United States to live in Michigan. I spent endless hours, days and months with a research expert who was able to finally locate their birth places and correct legally born names.  I grew up as Patterfritz (which is a fictious name), and found my name is actually Pettofrezza! I put together a packet of all the records, ship manifests, etc., and sent each of my 6 siblings a copy to surprise them for Christmas a couple of years ago once we were finished researching.  I have packets for my children as well.

Ciao for now~

Ciaobella

Oh, oh, oh...by golly I think I figured it out!!  These as you can see are the crests of the areas my grandparents were born.  I designed them myself to add to our genealogy packet.
Ciao for now~

IrfanView is a software Program that would be put on ones computer. Takes up little space, and is all in one folder/place. Easy to get rid of if you don't want it. I like it in preference to the other image programs. -Simple. easy to use to change colors, sizes, brightness, and other stuff. Better to read on the IrfanView site what it does. I use it mostly just to view pictures.

Good Afternoon everyone.   A lovely sunny day here, so I can't complain.  High of 67,  when I last looked at WU.  Lots of interesting messages posted here in the past couple of days!  :thumbup

Ciaobella -  I like your knitted Christmas bulb covers, and would love to see a picture of your decorated tree.  Also I enjoyed reading about all of your relatives from Italy.   I've done some research on my family, (with the help of Ancestry), and have had some wonderful contacts with cousins that I didn't know existed.  This is on both sides of the family.  It gives me a melancholy feeling that there are so many relatives out there that I would love to get to know better, but too late now, except for messages.

OLM -   You wrote that you might be able to go back to the farm in about four weeks?  I  hope that  holds true?   Also hoping that Ron is completely over the flu?  I remember that the cough tends to linger  for weeks.  You're very lucky that you didn't catch it from him.

Hello to Barb, and Rick and Patricia!   Barb,  I'm looking forward to hearing about your upcoming visit with Katha.   You seemed to have such a good time the last time she visited.

patricia19

I did DNA research with Ancestry and then later for medical DNA with 23&Me, years ago. I wanted to check and see if old tales passed down by my maternal side were true. Surprisingly, they were to a certain extent.

My large maternal farming family was very proud of their Irish heritage. My almost as large paternal side was just as proud of their Welsh-Scottish background. I'm glad that my parents and grandparents are long gone before discovering the information my maternal cousin David and I found out.

Of course, the percentages change as more people sign up for their DNA.

David and I, our mothers were sisters, are only 7% Irish, 39% Central Scotland and Northern Ireland, 2% West Midlands, 34% Southeastrn England and Northwestern Europe, 9% Southern Wales,  5% Norwegeian, 2% each Northern and Southern Germanic Europe, mainly Belgium and the Netherlands. Out of over 50 relatives, signed into Ancestry, David and I are almost identical, other than my nephew William, who almost made us triplets re DNA.

And that's not counting my paternal side, who seem to prefer 23&Me.

So, I can literally claim most of Western Europe. What I found fascinating was where they landed in America and being able to accurately follow their routes across the country.

QuoteI use my PaintShoPro program to resize. I have no idea how to resize any other way.  Phyllis would probably be the best teacher for S&F.  Sorry!

But I am willing to resize for anyone who wants to post here.

Ciaobella

Patricia, isn't it so exciting to know your DNA and the regions of your ancestors.  I used Ancestry for much of my research and then my research angel I call her had subscriptions to many international sites which is how she was able to finally find out my legal biological name and the correct spelling of my grandparents' names and where they were born.
My results are:
37% Central Italy
14% Central Scotland & Northern Ireland
10% Southern Italy
7%  Southern Germanic Europe
7%  Northern Wales & North West England
6%  Northeast England
6%  Southeastern England & Northwestern Europe
+5 more

I can tell you where my family is concerned the old tales passed down were almost completely false.  My research angel told me to be aware of upsetting family members if I choose to share the information we found which were undisputable records for proving the family tales were not at all correct.  My one cousin who I had been working with prior was very upset but had to come to terms with the records and certificates showing the family history she was told by her mother was not at all correct. We found divorce records and long-lost cousins who we did not even know existed.  Through Ancestry I was able to contact a few family members who were also researching, and I shared all the information with her, and she likewise informed me of some things I had no idea of.

Surprisingly there were newspaper articles from incidents that occurred in my family such as the NY train company that my father was killed by on his way to work with his fellow workers were covered throughout the United States.  I also found articles of the abuse that was taking place in a mental institution my uncle was placed in and how a patient had wandered off and got hit by a car. I couldn't help but think of the quote:

'Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive ' by Sir Walter Scott

Mariyln, I know how you feel about that melancholy feeling of not knowing family. My kids gave me the Ancestry DNA kit for my birthday one year because they knew I had no idea what my true last name was. I am so glad they did and it took me a bit to decide to even submit it.  On my mother's side we were able to find out the tale of us having Native American ancestry was finally debunked.

Okay off to a busy day of Euchre and Book club with my church members.

Bubble, please feel free to resize any of the pics I post that are too large. I'm still working on learning this.  Thank you so much for all your help.

Ciao for now~

OnLonelyMountain

Good afternoon everybody :D
That little googley eyed face is about how I feel. It was update my operating systems on all my devices day, followed by trouble shoot the fall out.

What a fantastic conversation on ancestry! I too am part Irish... my maternal grandma was a 'Keefe (her dad) and her mom was German, Zoller. They settled in Michigan. My paternal grandpa was Welsh/Scotts on his dad's side and Swedish on his mom's. She was an indentured servant in Canada. Then there's my mom's side, Native American, French Canadian, Ukrainian Ashkanazi Jew. I did the 23 and me thing. We actually have just about every race on the planet except Pacific South Islanders, Australian Aborigionals and Inuit. I even have Mayan fragments, SE African, Italian, Jordanian, SE Asian and several other interesting bits and pieces. My report said mostly European, Western & Central. We had some real traveling ancestors. My father told me we were Heinz 57 when I was a kid. He was right. Though the interesting part I learned is that you could actually be a lot more of a race than your DNA report found. For instance my mom's father was full blood Black Foot. Her mom was 1/2. That would have made my mom 5/8ths. But my % DNA report was way less than 3/8ths and my full sisters had none. Its pretty wild.

I and one of my sisters have done some sleuthing up documents and old newspaper clippings. The wild tales were all true!

Marilyne, its 3 weeks now.😀 I have a bit of a virus. Not much. Ron is at the lingering cough stage.

Thanks for the tip Rick. I checked the Apple store, but there isn't an app with that name.🙁

Its currently sunny and 53°F. It was 28°F this morning. 👋🏼

Sorry bout that.  It is a Windows item, and I wasn't aware that you use Apple.  There's some talk about using it with Apple, but I would be no help there. It would probably end up a disaster.

Marilyne, You posted a photo of a nice china cabinet in the older Covid discussion instead of in Photos.

Marilyne

Thank you Patricia!  ::)   I thought I had deleted it, but obviously I hadn't!   I've been practising my picture sizing on/in the old  discussions that are no longer being used.   Of course I delete afterwards, but I missed that one this morning.    We used to have a practice board, but it's long gone now.  Or maybe I'm remembering way back to Senior Net?
