Mornin all.  New names in here to me.  Oh well.  Busy little place too.  LOL

We are having lovely weather the last few days.  Bought me a new air filter for my apt.   The other one had bad bearings and it made a lot of noise.

Today I will switch clothes from Winter to Summer.   Quite a chore every season., but has to be done.

Have a great day all and HUGS all around,

Joan

Sandy, people are cutting the cable and using the computer to watch their TV.  I am not sure how they do it.  My son-in-law and I have discussed it, but I swear, even though I did communications work all my working life, and some parts of the technical end, I have forgotten or the technology has all changed.  And I am left in the dark about most things now days.  Well not completely in the dark but the part that I know I cant do.  No way can I get around and crawl on my knees and under desk or behind things to plug/unplug or climb up to get to some piece of equipment.  And it never fails I never have the right cable if I do try and add something.  Which reminds me I need to order some cables.

angelface555

Hal when I first signed on to this Internet company, they gave me a free Raku. This device allows you to watch both your TV and computer on the television using it as a monitor. Since I do not have a TV, I've never used it.

You can also watch many free TV shows on your computer or by paying a small fee.

Hi Joan, good to "see" you again!

Kelly

Hi Hal
At the moment I am using a laptop connected to a 19 inch TV with an HDMI.

As I don't have my larger TV on the Island.

However, doing it that way I still needs TV licence.

Sandy

Hal ...
None of my kids use cable tv.   They use their computer to see what ever tv they want to see.

I want to do this,  but I am afraid to do it.
I just need to talk to my son Paul so that he
can help me get started changing over to
getting rid of cable ...

Decisions?  decisions?  decisions ?

Mary Ann

It's a relatively nice day here today; sun is shining and at 3 pm the temp is 45 degrees.  It is quite noisy here today because a crew is working on our road, tearing up the asphalt in places so they can replace it.  They are working near my unit now.

Dot has brought some of Norm's things here since he died; things that date before they were married.  I am going to make a list of them, then give the list to Tom and Terry to see what they might want to have in memory of their dad.  I will dispose of a few pictures - pictures unidentified of people I don't know.  Other than that, after T&T make their choices, I will hold on to what is left and they can decide at that time what to do with it.

Tom, Terry, Jan, Dot and I will go to a hot dog place tomorrow for lunch.  It is at a mall in the south end so we will pick up Dot.  I understand it is like a deli so I suggested to Dot that she give her order to Tom, as will I also, to order because ordering is kind of chaotic.  Tom used to eat there when he was in college and seminary.

I think I hear my bed calling me for a nap.

And we end up having to pay and pay and pay because  they essentially  have a monopoly,
which leaves us here in apartments,  with no chance to choose  a less costly way to have the
benefits of cable TV.

I can't help complaining... sorry...   Someday I may have to cut the cord.
But I hope not for a long long while.

Otherwise,   EVERYTHING is GREAT!
Sandy
:crazy2:

You're right, of course, Sandy. Under the guise of breaking up the monopoly that was Ma Bell, the shysters unloaded these new demons on us. They promptly price-fixed our cable and landlines (cell phone prices are no better, in the main) and we have been captive to the new group of cooperative monopolies ever since.

The cord does have to be cut altogether, I believe. I now pay for HULU and Netflix, because cable has hundreds of channels of garbage. When I tried to pick and choose, i.e., get Basic Cable and add back what I wanted - remember the brief idea of a Menu driven cable, which was promptly shot down in Congress because the cable companies have such a strong lobby? - it would end up costing me almost as much as I pay now. I only got a tiny respite by dumping one premium channel and being forced to go with digital voice.

Larry, I just checked.  I have an MI424 Wireless Router (already out of date, according to Google) and get my phone, internet, and TV from it. That's why I find it odd that Comcast demands a modem in addition to a wireless router. But I thank you all for the info on buying a modem, rather than paying them the outrageous price of $10. a month.

Hi Deedee
How has your gone?

Kelly

Sorry, Kelly? How has what gone?

Andie

I have been a busy gal today but I am now totally insured with a different company.  The house insurance is a bit more than the old policy but the savings on my auto insurance more than makes up the difference.  I had  second thoughts about what to tell the local independent agent because he was not the one to blame and I was so mad I didn't give him a chance to find another company for us. I did let them know that we had done business with State Auto for over 50 years and they showed me their idea of loyalty and so I was following suit and cancelling everything.  I feel so much better!!

Again, thank you for the advice and support.  I will send a letter to the Insurance Commission as some suggested.

Kelly

Hi deedee
Sorry!

It should have read how has your day gone.

kelly

Kelly

Hi Andie
Surely with being with State Auto for over 50 years, the one thing you deserve is loyalty.

Do companies not value customers the same these days.

You would not BELIEVE how cold it has become here in Annapolis!  We are to have a FREEZE tonight!  Brrrrrr!

I went to physical therapy today, and then to the medical supply place to pick up my second pair of $78 socks that were on backorder.  Then we got caught up in a horrific traffic jam, because a FUEL truck had somehow gotten completely overturned at a big intersection we normally drive through to get home.  And it was leaking fuel.  And lines and lines of cars were driving every which way to try to find their way SOME where.  We, Chip & I, just wanted rather desperately to get HOME!  So Chip went up this street and down that, hoping to find a way.  It took ages, but he finally did.  We came out just on the Other side of the mess and sprinted for home.  Yay!

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  It is another cool 45 degree, sunny and calm morning but we should get to 70 degrees this afternoon.  We have to do a bit of grocery shopping today as this evening my sister and BIL will arrive. It will be after the dinner hour so we may have a big lunch out while we are shopping so dinner can be a light one.  I had an email from her yesterday saying they were having a great time in  Gatlinburg, Tennessee and they certainly have had nice weather. Don't be concerned about my not posting the next couple of days as want to spend as much time as possible with our visitors. I will just have to play it by ear.

Kelly, I have never heard of a TV license.

Mary Ann

I couldn't get on earlier this morning, but after doing other things and getting ready for the day, I got on.  I think today is to be nice, however, we're not into warmer weather yet.  At 10:30, our temp is 35 degrees.

Today Tom, Terry, Jan, Dot and I will have lunch at a hot dog place.  If available, I'll have a couple of chili dogs.  I understand it is a deli-style establishment so I will give my money and order to Tom and let him take the punishment.

Dot has brought a couple of boxes full of Norm's stuff and I am going to list them so Tom and Terry can pick what they might want for memories of their dad.  I will keep what they don't want and they can do with it what they want when I am no longer here.  I will dispose of some pictures of people I don't recognize and some loose scenery pictures.  I went through a scrapbook yesterday and you would not believe how thin Norm was in his youth!

Kelly, I have never heard of a TV license.

Larry, I had never heard of a TV licence until quite a few years ago, and got into an Ugly American back and forth on a British television site.

Seems Auntie Beeb (BBC) - btw, correct me if I am wrong, those in the know - has managed to charge those with a television a yearly fee..................just to have a television in their houses. The BBC is commercial free, so imagine our PBS channels charging us to watch their channels, on top of the price we pay for cable? Yes, the Brits have to pay for cable and pay a yearly licence. It's explained below, and I couldn't believe anyone would agree to it.

The BBC makes millions and millions from these fees, and as you'll read, there's collusion between the government and the BBC, no surprise. After all, our politicians are paid off by the cable television lobbyists. Enjoy:

MaryTX

Deedee - WOW :)  In April, 2010, by today's pounds to dollars conversion,  the fee would have been $207 yearly to watch in color or $69 in black and white, plus the cost of cable.

Kelly

Hi Larry
in the UK the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) charge a yearly fee to watch all their TV Channels.

We know it as a Television Licence.

And if you don't have one and are caught watching the BBC channels without the Licence you will be fined.

Kelly

Kelly

Hi deedee
A colour TV licence is £145 or $205

And if you want a black and white licence they cost £49.50 or £69

Not certain there is collusion between the BBC and the Government, as they do not always see eye to eye.
