Thanks for changing it.

The teal does not bother me, and it was not that which I was thinking of.  It is that pale green without the bold that I cannot read.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I could read both posts in the different colors.  Where I have trouble is in the posts that are not enlarged and are in regular font and size.  I have to make that post larger.  It is t he same as when I write in "Reply" before I change the color.  I know W Joan has sight problems.  I should post something in other folders but I don't feel as "at home" as I do here.

Well, don't feel bad about THAT, Joan!  I don't have MD, and I can't read that light green EITHER!  So there!

Here is a copy of a letter I sent just this week to the editor of TIME magazine:

I am 87 years old, and when your layout artists try to jazz things up by putting white type on a darker colored background, or any pastel type on such a background, I go nuts because I simply cannot read it.  In the on line social groups I belong to, such as SeniorLearn and Seniors & Friends, everyone complains about the same thing.  But old folks are not the only would be readers who have difficulty with these color combinations.  Let the artistically inclined work their magic elsewhere on your pages, but please rule for BLACK type for anything you would really like for us visually challenged to read.
Hoping, with thanks

Hooray for you, MaryPage!   I may send in a "second the motion"!!!!

I would also write in applauding that idea, but in addition, abolish the use of "handwritten fonts" for use in publications. I have a hard enough time reading some handwriting now, without it being published!

Hi everyone on another hot day here in South Carolina.  We had another 1/2 inch of rain yesterday evening so I am not going to water the grass tomorrow.

It has been a busy morning.  Pat is really laid up with the sciatic nerve problem and had to use the walker yesterday and again this morning.  She is going to try to get an appointment with a chiropractor as she has to do something.  I fixed her breakfast yesterday morning and again this morning and also put together the dinner last evening, fortunately from left overs.  Scott will be with us tonight and I will ask him to prepare the hamburgers or whatever else we have for dinner.  I will go to Aldi shortly to stock up on some fruits and vegetables (I didn't get there yesterday as had no energy left after going to Walmart).

I just dealt with a scam email supposedly from PayPal.  I won't click on links in such emails and went directly to PayPal and contacted them through customer service.  They told me my account is fine and to simply forward the email to them at the address she gave me and then delete the bad email.

Mary Ann, I am getting a habit established of putting in the coding at the first of the message . I just put it on a quick Word document and saved the link to my desktop and just now decided to pin it to my task bar for easy reach. While I have good eyesight, I agree about how difficult some of the colors are to read.  Some of the colors present no problem especially when bolded.  Here is the coding I use (just remove the spaces after and before the codes)  [ size=14pt ][ b ] [ color=black ] .

MaryPage, a great letter to the editor. Patricia also has a good point about the font we use.

Larry, I got no relief from my Sciatica until I had the surgery.  Has Pat seen her personal physician or her (if she has one) rheumatologist about her situation?  We are all different, and I sure don't want to advise you, but I cringe when I think of anyone else suffering the pain I did.  I feel such an urge to send them rushing on wheels to my surgeon for complete relief!  Please forgive me for this impulse: you and Pat know what is best for her.

Mary Ann

Larry, I write my message, highlight it when finished, then code it.  It comes out in the same location as yours, I think, at the beginning and after my name.  Mine probably is 12 pt just because it fits my screen better.  Yours is very easy to read and I appreciate it.

At nearly 11 am, our temperature is about 85 degrees and supposed to go to 91 degrees.  Today is our family lunch and I'm wondering if there will be more than Tom and me.  Apparently Terry is in Holland.  Because of his absence, Jan suggested to Dot that she would pick up Dot and take her to their house for lunch.  If that takes place, Jan's parents would not go out to lunch, which leaves Tom and AMA (me).  Is a puzzlement!

Mary Ann

Cool enough during the night to open my window.  I slept like a log.  :)  Amazing what fresh air will do to ya.  LOL

Mary Ann

It's 11:20 am and we have our lunch straightened out.  Dot had the wrong day - it is Thursday when Jan will pick her up and take her to her and Terry's house.  I was thinking Dot had not been there before, but we had Christmas Eve there and Dot was with us.  So three of four of us will have lunch together and it could be that Terry will return in time, so there could be seven of us!  Whew!

Good morning from a still soggy Interior. Rains expected now through Tuesday, some more flooding and the flood advisory extended for one more day. So nothing new here to report. Farrah has gotten impatient with my slow understandings and attempts to chivvy me along at times.

MaryAnn, I envy you your family OTCs. Being so connected as you are must be wonderful!

Joan, you may have our wind and breezes! The clouds out there remind me of giant, scalloped shells with purple air underneath and deep purple inside. If my camera weren't in the shop, I would have quite a few examples in Photos!

The only news has been  I downloaded the new W10 update and did not see any change in overall performance. I had moved all my necessary and important info to my off bandwidth Dropbox app or my external, most of it was already there.

I had moved some items to my documents or my pictures on my computer in the past for ease. However, after spending a couple of hours moving the items back to the external, I decided to leave them there and just link to them. So my windows files, Documents, Music, Video, Pictures, and PSP are all empty. I believe I prefer it that way.

I'm expecting an Amazon delivery today, and that is about it. Yesterday's medical visit has new appointments to schedule for my balance, eyes and finding a dentist to repair the bridges I have so I will be busy this winter.

He was concerned about my bloodwork and pernicious anemia and that the anemia may be related to my balance issues. I told him I had grown up with these problems, and some of it was related to my not tolerating Ferris Sulfate, or iron.

I guess it is usual for meeting a new physician, but sometimes I felt as if I was in a tennis match, lobbing questions and information back and forth. I lead such a darned robust and exciting life don't I?  ;)

wjoan

Angel, you can keep your clouds, not wanted here.  Today may be the lovliest day I have seen in a very long time.  :)  Off to get my hair cut.  HUGS all around

Here is a webcam of the real Annapolis Harbor from the Eastport Yacht Club.  See all those tiny little sailboats going down the Severn River to the Chesapeake Bay?  That is a sailing school of youngsters.  They will wind up outside in my view.  Heaven!

http://www.beachcamsusa.com/md/annapolis/eastport-yacht-club-webcam-in-annapolis

That is Naval Academy property right across the river.  See that long skinny peninsula stretching out up there?  That is where Annapolis settlers originally came.  They had a town there called Provincetown, but after a couple of years they found it just too windy for words, so they moved down the river to the natural harbor that is Annapolis today.

See those three (3) signal towers on that peninsula?  They are for cell phones these days.  There were still seventeen (17) of them when I first moved here, and during World War II there were over thirty (30).  This was a HUGE intelligence signals gathering spot for our war effort.  They just don't use that sort of technology any longer.

If you want a good laugh on a hot summer afternoon, have a look at this video.  Her name is Etta, and she is my daughter Debi's college roommate's granddaughter, who lives in Seattle, Washington.  Too cute!

MaryPage, I already had that setting for the cam, but upon viewing it today, I noticed that the movement was not only a mite jerky but that I had unconsciously set my inhales and exhales in time to that movement!  ;D

Also, Etta Irene is adorable, she didn't want help, liked her sweet corn and dug right in! Funny!

MaryPage

I enjoyed being tickled pink by her, so am not surprised you found pleasure in it, as well.  Etta is at that "I do it Myself!" stage, which all of us parents remember so well.  I think Etta's parents are very wise in that they do not throw fits, but gently encourage her in accepted behavior.  She'll get it, but in the meanwhile, I am feeling ripples of joy.  Have at it, Girl!

Mary Ann

Etta did well eating that corn, better than many adults.  She's so cute.

Six of us went to lunch today at Little Lucy's.  Little Lucy's is a new restaurant in a former grocery store.  I thought it was in a block of stores, but it is a stand-alone building.  I struck out when it came to ordering; first I ordered a Hoosier tenderloin sandwich and they were out of tenderloin.  When I chose a Waldorf salad sandwich, they were also out of that.  I ended up with a Reuben.  Their menu had many unusual ingredients and I would like to have tried many of their offerings, but I wanted to stick to a sandwich because that is easier for me to eat.  Tables are too high, or high enough that I can shovel food in to my mouth.  I do get entrees but often do have sandwiches.

Tomorrow I am going to join Dot and Jan at Jan's house for lunch.  Terry will pick me up and Dot will bring me home.

It is plenty warm here and one indoor/outdoor thermometer reads 93 degrees.  Based on the location, I think that thermometer reads a bit high when in the sun, but it is around 90 degrees anyway.

I think a nap is calling.

Patricia, I meant to comment earlier about family:  We all live near each other and there are only Tom, Terry and me.  Tom's son lives in Holland MI and his daughter works so cannot attend our lunches.  Terry's son lives in California and his daughter in Indianapolis.  Tim's daughter lives in Eaton Rapids MI.  When we have this family gathering, it includes Terry and Jan, Tom, Dot, Jan's parents and me - seven of us.  If the children could attend, there would be six more, a total of thirteen.  That includes spouses.  My mother was originally from Wisconsin and had a slew of cousins.  Dad was from Minnesota and also had a lot of cousins.  But anytime most of the Michigan clan gets together, it is a "family reunion".  We do maintain a close connection.

I didn't mean to be so wordy, but you mentioned our family and I think you are alone in Fairbanks.

Maybe this is the way it is done. What a bad memory I am getting to have.

worked. Now does it stay or do we have to do it on every Forum?

Will go to another one and check.

No, it does not stay.  You have to do it every time you post.

MaryAnn, my one sister and two nieces and a nephew are in Idaho. My older sister lives in Tuscany. I think one nephew is in Portland, Oregon at present.

I have relatives outside my immediate family in Kansas, Colorado, and Missouri.

I do have some maternal second and third cousins in Fairbanks but have lost touch with them.

Many of my friends are also leaving to be with grandchildren or other struggling family members, so I only have about five or six friends left here and some new acquaintances in the building.

I do envy you and MartyPage and your family closeness. I had that in my mid-thirties before I lost my daughter and my parents.

The median age here is about early to mid-thirties due to the military bases and the University here so being older is sometimes singular.

Hi everyone.  We awoke to a cloud covered morning but almost 80 degrees.  Our high today is predicted for 85 with a 65% chance of rain by mid-afternoon.

I woke up around 4 am this morning and couldn't go back to sleep.  Pat also got up early for her.  The morning chores are over as have taken out the trash to the street, flowered the flowers, fixed breakfast for Pat and I and have a big load of wash going.  Pat had to tell me what to do to get the washing machine started.  It has way too many bells and whistles.  It was easy when I knew what to do.  I will take her to the chiropractor in a little bit and sure hope he can give her some relief.  This is a first visit, of probably many, so not expecting too much but anything would be worth it.  It is here in North Augusta so won't take long to get there.  If I am not too tired I want to attend a concert tonight at our church.  It is a group called Tim Zimmerman and the King's Brass.

Scott was here late afternoon and finished up the supper by fixing the hamburgers and then he kindly cleaned up the kitchen.  I had about done myself in getting the salad ingredients fixed and a few other things.  My shopping at Aldi's yesterday morning really left me tired for the rest of the day.  I am going to try to have a quieter and less stressful day.  I haven't decided whether I will go to the Wisdom class at the church this morning or not as am not going to coffee today.

Patricia, you just have to get your new doctor trained to understand your particular needs and conditions.  It seems that a doctor's appointment always leads to more appointments with more doctors.

It used to be that families stayed in one general area because transportation was Manual Training School in Detroit.  From there he went to Flagstaff AZ and then to West Virginia and ultimately to Michigan.  My mother stayed in lower Wisconsin until she met my dad at a Normal school in northern Wisconsin; they married and that is how she got to West Virginia and I was born there.  Norm was born in Michigan!  Now it is not unusual for family members to be on both US coasts and/or in Europe and other countries.  Do they say that travel is broadening?

It's 78 here at present and we're to go to 92 before the day is over.  Dot and I will be at Terry and Jan's for lunch today.  Gadabouts.

Good Morning from the Interior! Weather is to be consistantly rainy through Tuesday so no news there.

Farrah has discovered jumping in and out of boxes is fun and educational, as is dropping into the tub and attacking through the shower curtain, those unwary enough to get close.

She naps inside her paper bag in between dragging toys in or out with a fierce growl. When Farrah hears a loud or unexpected noise, she investigates instead of running for under the bed.

In the morning she comes at the first sign of movement and verbally explains to me about how sad it is to see an empty food dish. This is the important news, and Farrah is an entirely different animal than she was in early May!

I received my new space heater yesterday which resulted in those boxes and seven new audio books as well. I've already read two of those books. I have received invitations to join three new committees here and an invitation to enter nominations as either secretary or treasurer of the building council and numerous bits and pieces of paperwork and telephoning per medical and dental issues so this next week or two will be busy.

The state fair is due to begin here on August 11th, but I don't plan to attend in rain or crowds, so that's the last of our summer festivities here.

"Patricia, you just have to get your new doctor trained to understand your particular needs and conditions.  It seems that a physician's appointment always leads to more appointments with more doctors." Larry, I agree with MaryPage, but I am hoping after a few initial procedures long overdue, that things calm down a bit.

MaryAnn, my family, have been wandering since the British transported them here in the mid seventeen hundreds.

We appear to hog everyone's rain; I am sorrier than you know...please come and take your portion with you!

MaryPage

I am just SO relieved that Farrah is a normal, confident cat now.  You have done a terrific job in reassuring her that you are HER person, Patricia.  Now that she is certain she has you and all that is yours as her forever home, she is not skittish at all.  Heaven!

I feel so desperately sorry for cats that lose their people and their homes and get sent to shelters.  They haven't a clue what is going on and they Yearn for the normality they are accustomed to.  It is heartwrenching, and so very many of them are given an early death, albeit a quick one.

angelface555

I agree MaryPage as the aminal shelter here is a kill shelter. Any litters are promptly put down as they do not have the facilities and they, the animals are killed after 36 hours with no tags and 30 days, with a tag, but no response to any shelter inquires.

People here are not animal minded, and animal cruelty laws are not working. A few years ago, some horses had been abandoned, starving,  by a hunting guide and were brought into foster homes. The guide sued and was given them back!?!

There are rescue groups for dogs and other animals and Pet Pride for cats but as with people, there is a type of frontier mentality here, regarding independence and helping oneself.

Farrah is happy, playful and typically a cat now and she thrived when accepted for herself and allowed to feel safe.
