Larry, after seeing the cat this morning, and the condition he was in, I doubt he was far from home and he may have spent the night on the patio.  As soon as Tom turned on his bedroom light, the cat made his presence known.  He was not dirty and had not been in any animal fights.  He has done a fair amount of sleeping today, however, cats are good at that regardless of their activities.

I don't know what he ate over that time, either, but he's making up for it today.  He missed his treat last night too.

MaryAnn, cats are known for their bad sense of direction, so Kendrick probably hadn't gone too far. It sounds as if he is happy to be home and fed!

I had maintenance in this morning to fix two kitchen outlets and the minute he came in, Farrah made it to under the bed faster than the speed of light!    ;)

However, with me, she is very verbal, sits next to me on the couch and sleeps on the couch at night or on the bathroom rug. She will respond verbally to questions, (Probably asking me to repeat that in feline!);  and has different sounds for food or a treat. When she wants to play, she comes up to me, says "errr" and then does a full body stretch as if she is shaking and stretching everything out before a game.

It took me awhile to connect those two behaviors to competition, but I'm learning. Farrah still has never meowed or made any typical cat sounds at all.

Today I learned about how well trained I am. I always turn out lights behind me and shut doors after I check for my keys and then check the locks. This morning, I made coffee, poured a cup and went to dress. When I tried a second cup, it was cold. I had poured the first cup and then turned the coffee maker off!

Farrah, is playing a new game right now. She mouths and throws a felt mouse high into the air and then makes a quick dash and leap to catch it midair. She then repeats in a burst of energy I can only image and envy.

Hope no little baby kittens will be coming in a few months. Maybe your can had a good time while out. (can't think whether yours if boy of girl cat). Fixed or not fixed.
Glad he came home though. They do say that cats can find their way home from anyplace. Even across country.
JeanneP

JeanneP

Yes. We are always reading in paper about people whose cat jumped out of car in one State and then found its way home.  One in the paper not long ago that had been gone 2 years.  But I have heard of MEAN people who took their cat that they didnt want any longer . The took it miles away thinking someone would give it a home. After a few weeks it was at their back door again.  Not much I fully believe anymore. Specially on TV or Computer.
JeanneP

JeanneP

Angel. Looks like I am answering you on something that has just vanished off the Forum.  Did you take it out.? (It was about what your Vet said.)
JeanneP

Mary Ann

Jeanne, it would be difficult for Kendrick to have kittens because he is a male.  And he couldn't father any kittens either as he has been neutered.  He had slept a lot but cats do a good job of that anyway.  I had all sorts of bad thoughts about him being gone.  We live near the intersection of two busy roads and he is a nosy cat.  I wonder what he found to eat but he is making up for the loss of his regular food by eating often today.  Kendrick has a few hidey-holes and he's been in them today.  Mostly they are places under chairs or small tables where he has some protection but can see all he surveys.

Patricia, I had two videos (VHS) back in the nineties when I had Hobbes and then Brandy.  They were made JUST FOR CATS, and featured birds and squirrels and so forth.  Hobbes would watch TV, but pretend he wasn't.  Brandy would jump down and sit upright on the carpet right in front of the TV and his head would go back and forth and forth and back, from one side to the other, watching avidly what was on the screen.  I bet they have them on DVDs now.  I know you don't have television, but don't they have some sort of DVDs that can be played on computers these days?  I haven't had to check that out, as I no longer have a cat;  also I have 3 televisions, 3 DVD players, and 3 computers in this small apartment, so I am not needing to play DVDs on my computers.
Both Brandy and Hobbes, who were Totally unrelated, adored those birds on the end of strings attached to the end of reeds, like fishing poles.  I would sit and swing those things back and forth in a lazy arc high in the air, and they would go crazy trying and trying and trying yet again to catch that bird!  Hobbes would eventually quit, but Brandy could always keep at it longer than I could.

JeanneP

MaryAnn.  Maybe he didn't go very far away from your porch. We have a couple of cats on my street. Different people. The people let one of  them out in the evening before goes dark. He just roams around and then head back home with in 30 min.  I see a few in windows and they never get out.
JeanneP

angelface555

MaryPage, I like your cat's names. My mom had Nietzsche, Polly, and Rochester, from the Jack Benny show.

Farrah likes the simple ones and doesn't care for the toys with sounds squeaks that Sarah so enjoyed. Sarah would sit and watch the computer videos where Farrah hasn't quite made the connection; she zooms in on the audio player instead of the screen.

I never can find those videos when I think to look for them, but there are plenty of YouTube videos and bird recordings.

I have two fishing pole like toys, one with a mouse that bores Farrah and one with feathers that she loves to try and catch as well as a two-foot pole with bright feathers like a feather duster. I do let her find them occasionally because I learned with my previous cats that they grew bored if they never caught them.

Today's play of tossing the felt mouse high and then leaping to catch it is new. But one old favorite is her putting her felt mice in the paper sack and jumping on the sack growling. Then lying on her side, to reach in and take out the, (dead?); toys to begin again. I've tried catnip, and she isn't a fan, but some of my other cats never cared for it either.

She's very athletic, jumps high and runs hither and yon, also loves getting into or out of tight places. Farrah is very verbal, will come up and talk to you or answer with a questioning sound if you say something she doesn't figure out. She's healthy, active and happy and I sometimes wonder if I'm boring her as I'm not that active.

Now I've written a book!

Hi everyone. Decided to post late this evening rather than in the morning as have an early appointment at the hospital for an ultrasound on my liver. It shouldn't take too long but one never knows. This area is now expecting some impact from the hurricane.  Most of the schools and government offices are going to be closed tomorrow. The last report I saw expects the rain to start about 11 am.

Today turned out to be quiet. I was just too weary to go to coffee and the Wisdom group at the church. After resting and sleeping some this afternoon I felt better. After Pat's appointment late this afternoon we went to Ruby Tuesday's for a good dinner. I am watching the South Carolina and Vanderbilt football game in bed and writing on my iPad.

Hope your results are good.
That Hurricane looks horrible and I feel for all those people in its path.
Where do they shelter?

Jeanne Lee

We had two cats who loved to chase a light - until Gene used it to lure them into a carrier.  From then on they simply ignored the light.   :D

Since I posted last evening I will just do a quick check in today.  At least it is going to be nice day temperature wise only getting up to 76 degrees.

I went for my ultrasound test but had goofed and ate breakfast so they had to reschedule it for 2 pm this afternoon.  We are getting the rain from the Tropical Storm and have already had over 1 inch.  It is suppose to be heavier this afternoon with more wind.  Of all the days to goof up this wasn't the one but I won't melt and need to have the test today as will see the doctor who ordered it on Tuesday.

Pat is showing some signs of beginning to get better.  The chiropractor re-evaluated her yesterday and was very satisfied with the progress she has made although she is still having the muscle spasm but perhaps less often.

wjoan

Mornin all.  Our weather is cooling off some and I am glad.  Will have Dan turn off the a/c this a.m. when he gets here.  If we get a rare hot day I always have the a/c in the bedroom.  Rarely use it but it is there just in case.  :)

Having some cereal this morning since I ran out of yogurts.   Good thing today is shopping day.  :)

Have a good day all and HUGS all around,

Mary Ann

I'm not Old Mother Hubbard, but our cupboard is almost bare.  I can make a sandwich, but I have nothing to snack on - and I need something to snack on!!!

Our cat had a laser light at one time, but it disappeared.  I should get another because that is something I could play with him while sitting on the couch.  Most things he has require sitting on the floor and I don't do that.  He's back to normal activities now and I guess I was the only one worried when he didn't come in that night.

Last night was lovely sleeping.  I had the fan on but I also was able to sleep under the blanket.  I think I slept from 11 pm to 5 am - 6 hours - and that is unheard of for me!

Jeanne Lee, your post about your husband Gene, cats and laser lights reminded me of that old saw, "Fool me once, etc.  I am so glad to see you are feeling better, we have missed you. Sarah never cared for the lights, but I should find one for Farrah, as she might enjoy one.

I hope everyone has a good and pain-free or less painful day.

Palmer, a town just a few miles from Anchorage, just had their fair and announced a winner in their pumpkins contest. The new winning pumpkin was 1,469 pounds!

Sandy Dapph, I hope your newly received SmartPhone does not contain one of those exploding batteries.  For heaven's sake, check it out BEFORE you try to recharge it!  Want you Safe!
Following the Weather Channel news closely, they have the hurricane hugging the Carolina coasts for a while, having become a Tropical Storm.  Then it will shoot up northeastwards and go right past the mouth of the mighty Chesapeake Bay.  Then it will hit some extra warm water up in the ocean parts there, northeast of the bay, and likely turn into a hurricane again, and may turn in to the coast once more and batter up there.  A lot of folks, especially on the beachfronts, may suffer a lot of damage, but they showed the figures, and this storm is A LOT smaller than Sandy, with no chance whatsoever of it getting as big.
In the meanwhile, our Maryland beaches will suffer wind and rain, and a not as hoped for and anticipated Labor Day weekend.  Our lower southern counties, St. Mary's and Charles, will have a lot of rain.  We don't expect much more than some gloom and rain here.  Right now, the bay waters up here are choppy, but I see absolutely no whitecaps whatsoever, and everyone is out on their boats celebrating T.G.I.F.  They'll be filling up our taverns and bars come nightfall, for as you know, ours is "a Drinking town with a Sailing problem!"

Just watched my second network news program of this evening, Sandy Dapph, and it is the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Smart Phone that is exploding.  I think I got that right.

Mine is a Google Phone "Nexus 5X"...
Phew !!!

But thanks for thinking of me, Mom...

MaryPage, I hope you are safe from Hermine.  I have been watching the Weather Channel and I really hope all of our East Coast people are safe from Hermine.  I suppose eventually some of the moisture will make its way to Michigan, but not in the form it is in the East.

We've had a lovely day today, cooler than in days past, but toward the middle of next week we will get up into the 80s again.  That's about as hot as I want it to get because I can have the doors open and don't have to use the A/C.

Tom and I went out for a late lunch and/or early supper about 2:30 pm.  I haven't eaten since, but I will have to before long.  I don't want to eat just before bedtime.

Sandy, that is a cute picture of the kitty as your avatar.

Marilyne

I received an email from Kelly, asking me to please copy and post the following message on Norm's B&T, Soda Shoppe and the Games Board.

Dear S&F members

It is over four months since I posted on seniors and friends, because of health issues.  When I am able to return I cannot say, but in time I will post again if on a much reduced basis than I used to.

I now live in the United Kingdom in a community helping with health matters.  Replying to members by emails is not possible at the moment for me because of these health matters and my inability to use voice recognition.

I am unable to access S&F as I have lost my username and password.  If anyone has asked about me, I thank you.

Regards

     Kevin

MarsGal

Thank you for the post Marilyne. I am happy that he was able to give us an update, sad that he is still unable at this time to participate in Senior and Friends at this time.

Hi everyone from a soggy but cool South Carolina.  We had 3 inches of rain yesterday as it rained without stopping for about 12 hours.  Today we have blue skies and a temperature of 67 with a high of only 84 predicted for this afternoon.

I did go back yesterday afternoon and had the ultrasound done, which took all of maybe 10 minutes.  I had attended to do some cooking when I got home but just wasn't feeling up to it and so we settled for a scrambled eggs, green onions, bacon bits and cheese for dinner with some fresh cantaloupe.  It actually made a very good meal and I am sure we will have it that way again.

Today I will go to COSTCO for more items, including a big block of cheddar cheese that I need to make the sausage muffins for Pat's breakfast and a few other items.  Then I plan to get some cooking done and get things in order for our dinner tonight.  I will watch some college football this afternoon and then this evening Georgia plays so may watch a little of that game.  I was shocked to find yesterday morning that South Carolina had come back with 55 seconds left to beat Vanderbilt as didn't have a good first half and I had turned it off then.  The pro football season starts next week.

If you haven't seen Pat's posting on Facebook I will share with you all that she spent 8 hours in the ER Thursday night.  Fortunately Paul was there with her.  She did not say the reason for the trip to the ER.

Joan, we will be using the A/C for a couple of months more although I hope it will not be worked as hard as we get some cooler nights and early mornings.

Patricia, it must have taken a fork lift to get that pumpkin to the fair.  I remember some of the huge vegetables from Palmer and the valley up there.

MaryPage, glad you are not expecting to be bothered much by the storm going up the coast.  I haven't seen the forecast for this morning.

Marilyne, thanks for sharing the email you had from Kelly.  I know it puts our minds at ease that he is still with us and do hope his health issues resolve before long and he will be able to post once in a while, if just to say hi.  It sounds like he has relocated into the type of community he needs.

Mary Ann

Since Kelly mentioned it, I think he wrote at one time that he was going to move to the UK.  He didn't say it was a health place, but he may have known that is where he was going.  I'm glad he was finally heard from.

Mary Ann

MaryPage

I remember Kelly saying he wrote by voice.  Amazing the technology involved in that!  It is no wonder he tended to write a number of short little posts rather than one larger one each day.  I admire the courage he has to keep up his cheerful spirits in the face of numerous discouraging handicaps.

June Drabek

MaryPage, I had the impression that Kevin Kelly was still a rather young person, so his disabiiities must have been even harder to accept, that for we older ones.

June, Kevin is my age, 65 and while he did use a very sophisticated voice recognition software, I use the Dragon voice recognition software that is a third of the cost of the one Kevin used but also did far less than his. This is the one, Dragon that we were trying to see if Sun could try. However, she wasn't interested.

Farrah is not happy with me today as I brought my plants back in from the balcony and now she is unable to jump onto "her" table to check out the balcony. While we are still having evenings in the forties and days in the late sixties or early seventies, the leaves are beginning to yellow, and the other colors, red, russets and browns can't be far behind along with colder weather.

I want to buy a large shelving unit for my plants, but since they are large, especially my ponytail palm and Christmas cacti, that I'm not sure just what to buy. It also has to be secure so Farrah can not reach any of them.

Today was our building council board elections, and someone put my name up for secretary, but I hastily declined. There is also a new craft club beginning Monday as well as a Senior stretch and another tai chi class on Tuesday I want to check out as well. Monday is also a potluck holiday barbeque which should be fun.

One thing the building owners did today which has some excited is in each floor's social room there is a printer and two Dell desktop computers. That's five printers and ten desktops. They are connected to the Internet, but you must stop by the office to get your password, and the printers are a dime a page which will go into our general fund for party supplies and club accessories. The new computers came as a big surprise to most.

June Drabek

Patricia, it sounds like you have very considerate building owners where you live. Do you have the name of the company ? In Hemet we were purchased by a huge Conglomerate, Brookdale. They own buildings all over the United States. Here, where I live now, it is run by The Quakers, and they too are very considerate of we tenants. I feel it is far more "family" oriented than a big Conglomerate. It is open to all people, not just Quakers. They are very caring people.
As long as we are here, let's dance.
