What a day I've had.  Tom and I left home about 9 am, stopped for gas, then to Mc D's drive through for breakfast.  We got to Merrillville about 11:45 and Tom H got there about 12:15.  We had our lunch (mine was tomato basil soup and garden salad) and left about 1:30 or so.  Tom H and I made one stop coming south for something to drink.  Shortly before we got to Indy, we could see it raining ahead of us; it was like a curtain and I've never seen anything like that before.  Tom gets a special bread so we stopped for that (it is pricey, but oh, so good).  Tom gave me the combination to get online here and I managed that, then Tom left for his minister's for a usual Friday night get-together.  We were going to a restaurant for supper, but the minister and his wife showed up with a pizza.  Tom H has subscribed to a Blue Apron food delivery and his came today so he and the minister's wife decided to make one of the dinners.  In the meantime, Tom's brother, Bob, showed up and later a friend of Bob's came in.  Talk was lively and I knew some of the people they mentioned so I could join in too.  The minister and his wife came over to see me and I think Bob did too.  We will be at Bob's Sunday.   Tom and I had root beer floats before calling it a day.

And I'm going to quit while I'm ahead - my cursor is jumping around and I don't want to lose the post.

MaryAnn, it sounds as if you had an enjoyable start to your trip and I hope the rest is as enjoyable!

We have that type of rain here. There are certain areas where it can be divided along a street or block or some other odd way. When I lived by the wildlife sanctuary, it often happened along our street and  the kids would jump in and out of the rain.

I had a call from a friend today saying he hadn't seen me lately. I'll tell it pretty much verbatim.  I told him about my sinus, the bus incident and how, when sick, I was like a bear. I didn't get sick that often so I would repair to my bedroom slash den and snarl and snap at those who disturbed me.

He went into this big lengthy discourse about not letting being sick win, on how to just power through it. He stopped and asked what I was doing. I told him I was breathing really heavily into the phone. He laughed, said it doesn't work that way and he never gets sick. I said, yeah, I've heard that one before.

Hi everyone on a beautiful and clear South Carolina Saturday morning.  It is a very pleasant 72 degrees, or was when I was outside watering my plants.  We are suppose to get to only the mid 80's today.

I had an enjoyable and laid back day yesterday and the car didn't leave the garage.  As far as I know now that will be the same today.  I got my desk cleared away yesterday so will have a light schedule for the football Saturday.

MaryPage, I got the original photos and saw that big drink cup you were holding.  Very nice photo.  So sorry to see that you are experiencing such bad knee pain.  I hope the doctor will have something to offer to lessen or stop the pain.  I know you appreciate Chip being able to help you.

Patricia, we are weeks away from the trees losing their leaves here.  What unusual weather you are experiencing.  Do you have problems on your buses with non-handicapped persons taking up the reserved seats?  Atlanta also has a special service that picks and up delivers handicapped folks at their residence and takes them where they need to go.  I forget how much that cost but $3 seems to run in my mind and it required advance reservations.  I think Pat does get frustrated and discouraged by the seemingly non-improvement.  I do see a little improvement as she was able to do some walking yesterday without the walker or a cane.

Mary Ann, it sounds like a very full but very enjoyable day with folks coming to see you.  What is the Blue Apron food service?  Are these meals ready to prepare?

Only 71° here this morning, with a grey overcast day.  The sun is supposed to turn off and on as the day goes by.  Chip is leaving shortly to umpire a couple of baseball games.  It is supposed to go up to nearly 80° as the day moves on.  I have the house open at present, and am enjoying the lovely breezes wafting through the rooms.  I so wish I could go out and take a nice healthy walk, but am hobbling about with the walker and pretty housebound.  I do so enjoy my decks full of lovely garden blooms.  Too soon it will be time for Debi & Steve to come and take the hibiscus and about 4 of the geraniums to winter over in their Florida room, but not quite yet.

Mary Ann

Larry, Blue Apron is a subscription food delivery service, not like June's Von's delivery where you order what you want, but you sign up for 'x' number of meals a week, month, or ---  They send the food, packed, even frozen, along with recipes.  Tom H received a box yesterday so he and Jenni (minister's wife) put together a fish dish which was very good.  It was almost gourmet, however, they included all of the ingredients needed and in the proper quantities.  Tom has been getting a box a week with three meals but realizes he doesn't need three big meals a week.  He's going to change.  I saw an ad on Grand Rapids TV about a service called FreshFoods, or something similar.  I'm going to investigate for Tom Tock and me.

I talked to Terry's daughter this morning and she will be here around noon and we will have lunch, probably at a restaurant.

Tonight two of Tom H's friends will fix dinner for us; there will be one or two other people here too  I have met one of the men and heard about the other.

Tomorrow we will go to church, and in the afternoon we will be at Tom's brother, Bob's.  This is the family with the quads and an older sister.

While I figured this might be my last trip down here, I learned there will be a wedding in May and I would be invited.  I hope I'm able.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

MaryPage, last winter I kept over two geranium plants and two gerbera daisies.  All survived the winter and thrived this summer - as long as I watered them.  I plan to do the same this winter.  My living room looks like a forest!

Now to see how Grand Haven is doing.

Larry, re Blue Apron, they sponsor a couple of cooking shows I watch on PBS - Cook's Country and America's Test Kitchen.

MaryPage, I am so sorry about your continued pain with your knees. I hope it will begin to improve soon. I know how that type of pain can become and wonder if it is affected by the barometric pressure as my arthritis is? I often hear folks talking about leaving your house open to let a breeze blow through or so a person can sleep. I never leave anything open unless I am here, and it's in the daytime.

MaryAnn, you sound as if you are enjoying your trip and it is good that your whole family is close. My family is cantankerous at best, so I love hearing about it through other friends. None of the food services or food clubs deliver here. I know the state bans some and the higher freight costs hinder others. Most plants and food are undeliverable to Alaska.

Larry, yes at times others sit in the reserved seats but know to get up if someone needing the seats comes aboard. If they don't the bus driver tells them. Swearing, yelling, no shirts or shoes, sleeping, drunkenness, obvious eating, drinks without lids, radios, etc, gets them shut down or off the bus fast.

A drunk person is usually let off the bus at the next stop and if they refuse, a security guard is dispatched and takes care f the matter. If a drunk manages to get past the driver and onto the bus, and then passes out, that is the ones I hate as it usually involves having the security come out and everyone's time table is thrown off.

We do have VanTran which is the same as yours, scheduled, 2.00 per way and only to and from your destination. However, the bus is free for over sixty and goes all over town and the outskirts, eight separate buses running their daily routes.

Today's leaves are looking more copper than gold and the wind is busy doing its job of scattering them. Farrah is on her table watching the wind surfing birds.

Thank you, Patricia.  I have only one ailing knee; the other is just fine at present.  The one is probably a case of a piece of dried up cartilage that has broken off and is floating around.  It will cause intense pain until it finally dissolves or something.  My right knee had that situation from August 2009 until March 2010, and then the pain intensified for 20 hours until I wanted to die, and then quit.  Flat out quit!  Went away and never came back!
So now the left knee started this August, and worked up to intensive pain.  All a bit different from the 09/10 one, but also much the same.  I think, and deeply hope, the worst passed last Sunday night, and I am on a slow slope down to getting all better.  We'll see what Dr. Mary Michels has to say on Thursday morning.  She is a specialist, a rheumatologist, and quite renowned for her expertise in these matters.  It was she who figured out what was going on with the right knee.  It was also she who diagnosed my Sciatica last year, right after my hairdresser told me what was ailing me!  Ah, what would the world BE without hairdressers?

We had some rain over night and this morning which knocked some of the leaves off the trees..  Looks like Fall out there now.  :)

Mary Ann

I pulled a June Drabek and fell coming out of a restaurant this afternoon.  I want to tell you, however, I am OK!  I think I caught the heel of my shoe on the doorsill of the building and lost my balance.  I could just fell those around me watching this little old woman fall.  I really was lucky because much bad could have happened.  I have a scraped elbow and two fingernails broke, but, really, nothing hurts and I expect to be sore and/or lame in the morning.  I AM OK!

Mary Ann

Sandy

I am so sorry Mary Ann to hear that you fell today.
Fortunately,  you didn't get hurt,  (much?)...

Tomorrow your body might protest,  but that
is to be expected.

My phone is now fixed and working splendidly ....
I am much more comfortable with it now that
I have been working with the Techs at Project Fi.
That was just what I needed to get comfortable
using a smart phone,  again.

Mary Ann, glad you are ok after your fall.  They can be dangerous at our age.

Mary Ann

Sandy and Joan, thank you for your concern.  I really am not feeling any ill effects but wait until morning when I expect to be sore, maybe lame.  Tom H had told me earlier that we would be sitting downstairs in the church instead of the balcony where his family has sat for ages, but I don't feel I want to climb the steps to the balcony.  Not only that, if we go in the main entrance, there is a flight of steps to get into church and if I don't go in the main entrance, there is a long walk around three sides of the sanctuary.  So we will sit downstairs in the sanctuary.

Three of Tom's friends came for dinner tonight - and they brought the dinner.  It wasn't elaborate but was hamburgers, sliced tomatoes, tossed salad (with some hot peppers so I could not finish the salad).  It all was good.

Tomorrow we'll be at Tom's brother's so I will be well fed for a few days.  I do not dare weigh myself because by the time I get home, I am sure I'll have gained a few pounds.

U of Michigan won today and now the Michigan State/Notre Dame game is on.  Most Hoosiers will root for ND, but I am not a Hoosier, but I am a Michigander!

Mary Ann, happy that you didn't have any major injuries.  Hopefully tomorrow will just be a few bumps and bruises.

hello Mary Ann
So sorry to hear of your fall and hope after affects are not too bad.  It really is what we all fear and specially in front of an audience.

Keep enjoying Hoosier land.

Joy

MaryAnn,  Hope that you are not too achy this morning from your fall yesterday.  I am happy that it wasn't any worse than it was.  I am sure you will be feeling some after effects and hope that it won't put a damper on your visit.

Sounds like you are getting some good meals.  Hope you have a nice afternoon with your friends.

Take care and be careful.

Hi everyone on this beautiful Sunday morning.  The sun is out and it is still fairly cool here in the low 70's.  I am ready for Sunday School and Church this morning and then will stop to get something to bring home for our lunch as the kitchen is basically closed for business on Sunday's.

Last evening I fixed us Tilapia and steamed cabbage and green beans.  The fish and green beans turned out well but a few of the cabbage leaves had a bit of a singe to them but still tasted fine.  I had not made steamed cabbage before.  I stayed awake late last evening watching the Georgia/ Missouri football game.  It was an exciting game and Georgia got the win by scoring with only about 1 minute to go and then Missouri fumbled and that was the game.

I am rushed for time this morning so will try to hold my comments to only a few.

Mary Ann, we had a similar company that put together all of the ingredients for a meal which you prepared at home.  I expect a similar company exists in this area.

Patricia, I also would not leave a window open at night.  We left a garage window open just a bit and went out to dinner during the summer.  When we got home we found we had been robbed as they came in through that open window.  Stacey only used the special van transportation a couple of times but was quite proficient with the bus and subway system.

Mary Ann, seeing that you had fallen gave me a start.  Glad you were not seriously hurt.  Perhaps you should hold on to an arm of someone you are with when you are out and about, especially in unfamiliar places.  I hope you are not too sore and stiff this morning.

Sandy, good news regarding your phone.  These smart phones can do so much.

angelface555

Good morning from the Interior. Same old thing here so no new  news.

MaryAnn, I'm so sorry you fell and hope any aches and pains you have will be minor.

Larry, you've become quite proficient in housekeeping. I know Pat appreciates it!

I was hoping to come here and see a message from MaryAnn.  I sure hope she is doing ok today.   I know she is away, but not like her to be here, even just to say "Hi" and let us know that she is ok.  I know we all are a little concerned about her.

Tom H and I went to Sunday school and church this morning and when we left we took the route past Jim's house where his granddaughter now lives so I could see how things looked in the neighborhood and it looked good.  Later the granddaughter came here to see me because when we leave for Bob's house (her father), she will be elsewhere.  I understand her mother won't be there, either, but I hope some of the quads will be there.

Larry, I think if I had hold of someone when I went down, that person would also have gone down.  Picture yourself going down a flight of stairs and missing the last step, that's kind of what happened, except there was only one step and I stepped on it wrong.  This morning it surprised me to find I had no new aches or pains.  I do have a spot on my right elbow where I hit the pavement and that is the only evidence of my fall.

I am having trouble with this computer cursor moving so I am not going to type more.  It is the same one I use at home and I have trouble there too!

Joy, thanks, but I haven't had time to browse here, let alone post.  Tom has gone to the store, then we will go to his brother's and won't get home until late.

MaryAnn,  I am sure you are being kept on the go.  But, thanks for letting us know that you are feeling ok today.  I really thought you would really be hurting today, and I am happy that you are ok.  But, you know how we all are when we don't hear anything, especially after your telling us about your fall.

Joy, with the exception of the time to nap, we were on the go from 8:45 am until nearly 9 pm tonight.  Sunday school, church, visit by Tom's niece (Jim's granddaughter), supper at Tom's brothers where I saw the girl quads (boy quads were not there).  The quads are 25 years old and the older daughter is 28.  It was a full day but I don't do that often.

Monday we will drive to Milroy, Jim's hometown.  When he was alive and I visited, we always drove to Milroy (very small population) and his son follows the tradition.   We "do" the cemeteries because that's the only place there are Jim's family now.

I am very surprised I don't have any new pains, but I don't.  Maybe tomorrow!

Mary Ann - I'm so glad you weren't badly hurt in that fall. I know from my own falls what a scary, helpless feeling it is. Sounds like you are having a good time in Indy.

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  It is another nice morning here in South Carolina.  As I write this morning they are unloading the sheet rock for the inside of the house so the walls will soon begin to take on shapes and the outside siding is being installed.  They are coming right along with the house across the street and I have the perfect view from my office window.

Today will be fairly business.  The morning chores are done but still need to attend to the washing this morning and afternoon.  I will attend my noon Monday meeting and then may make a quick stop at COSTCO for an item or two.  Then Pat has her Monday appointment with the chiropractor at 4 pm and that 6:30 this evening we have the first men's meeting at church for the fall.  We always have a nice steak dinner and if any steaks are left over they will sell them for $5 or $6 dollars so will try to get one to bring home for Pat.

I am beginning to see some indications that Pat is improving, although it seems very slowly.  Her eyes are much, much better now that she is putting lubricant rather than gel in her eyes are night.  She also tapes them shut and wears a sleep mask to protect them during the night.  She did a little walking yesterday in the house without the aid of her walker or cane.

Mary Ann, like others here certainly glad to read you didn't have any new aches and pains from your fall.  It sounds like you are having a busy time but enjoying it. I have missed a bottom step on occasion or caught my heal on a step but so far have avoided falling.  We have one step down from our house to the garage floor but am careful with it and Pat hold on to the door  frame when she goes to the garage as she doesn't raise her feet up very far.  Do you have the touchpad on your laptop covered over with an old credit card or heavy cardboard?  I have found over the years that I need to do this to prevent my mouse from bouncing all over the place as sometimes can touch the touch pad without realizing it.

Jeanne Lee

Mary Ann, I thought you were old enough to know you're supposed to pick up your feet!   ;D

Seriously, like all your friends, I'm ever so glad you didn't get hurt.

Larry, I've tried to remember if other restaurants have flat entrances to their buildings or raised ones.  I don't remember so I'll pay attention in the future.

I did not have trouble with my cursor until I put Windows 10 on my old computer, but this one has W-7.  There is a computer repair shop near me and I'm going to take it there. I have to remove some financial data first.  I hate to buy another computer, but I will if I have to.

Today we will go to Milroy IN, Jim's birthplace.  We'll have lunch there.  Milroy is one of those towns that if you blink going through, you miss it.

Jeanne Lee, I think I did not realize there was a step there and may have stepped on the edge and that threw me off balance.  I realize I was very fortunate because I could have caused a lot of damage to myself - away from home, too!

Mary Ann

Larry one of your function keys should disable the touch pad on your lap top.  I think mine was F7.

angelface555

Good morning from the Interior, It is still windy and many trees are now bare, the winter combined flocks have now gathered and the hawks, ravens, and owls have moved down from the mountains and ridges into town after those flocks. Winter is here, skies are white and we are only awaiting that first white dusting.

MaryAnn, I am so glad you are not feeling any pain or any bruises!

Many of the newer laptops have a feature in settings that will disable the mousepad.

Larry, I'm glad that Pat is feeling better and becoming better. It seems everything takes longer and longer anymore.

My sinuses are finally almost back to normal which is a good thing as I finished the sinus medication! I hate being sick!

Farrah is busy doing her usual,  throw the mouse, kill the mouse and then run away only to dash back and repeat, growling all the way. Sometimes she will take one up onto the table and then sit up on her haunches and toss away the poor felt mouse five or six feet away before beginning all over again. She is amazingly quick and agile!

As you can see, nothing new here. I hope you are all having a good morning and that your days are more interesting!
