Marilyne, when Annie comes, Kendrick does not run downstairs so he does recognize her.  If anyone else comes, he disappears.  Annie brings him toys, brushes him and pays attention to him.  She also cuts his toenails which he doesn't like and which I cannot do.  She takes pictures of him and I know she posts them on Facebook as "her" cat and that's all right with me.  She bought him, all I do is let him live here.  If she would move to a place where she could keep him, while I'd miss him, I'd let him go gladly.  Kendrick has a long way to go to catch Winnie in age.  On the other hand, few cats are as long as Kendrick; he is one big cat.

Tom was out this morning, so brought back a sandwich from Jimmy John's.  It was a very good sandwich, but very messy.  I ate only one half and will save the other half for supper if Tom meets anyone for supper.  It is comparable to a Subway only with bread instead of a roll.

Sandy, I hope your arm is not being too painful and heals quickly.

Patricia, I got a chuckle out of the confusion over magnesium and magnetism. Magnesium is highly flammable. It is what is/was used in flashbulbs, marine flares, and fireworks. You all probably already know that. Anyway, your Mr. Knows Everything sure ran with it didn't he. I certainly wouldn't put electricity and magnesium together except in special cases, like the small electrical charge that triggers the flashbulb.

I had a nice few hours with my sister today. We had lunch (at, it turns out, a rather expensive Pizza place), and then went to Boscov's and Barnes and Noble. You just know that I did not escape from B&N without books. I got jeans at Boscov's.

Hi everyone.  After an overcast day with rain in the afternoon today is sunny and clear skies.  We expect to be in the low 80's this afternoon.  My only commitment today is to see my cardiologist late this morning.

My granddaughter called yesterday afternoon to advise us that our son was headed to the hospital in an ambulance.  He had to leave work early the night before due to severe chest pain and was able to control the pain with nitro and sleep that night but yesterday he didn't feel good so got in to see his doctor and the doctor sent him to the ER from his office.  The blood work so far indicates he didn't have a heart attack but they admitted him and will do some testing today.  So we will be anxious to hear today.  My cardiologist is also his cardiologist.  He has had one heart attack and several stents in the past.  If you would say a little prayer for him it would be appreciated by this dad.

Patricia, hope they got your power back on as they expected and that you enjoyed the afternoon out.  You can't blame Farrah for trying to get the treats rather than the regular food.  :)  I did a quick search and don't see anything about magnesium being other than a poor conductor of electricity and does that because it is a metal.

Jackie, I hate to say it but I don't understand the "Thought for Today" unless it refers to not needing to steal food if you have a full belly.

Mary Ann, a cat's purr is a very soothing noise.

Marilyne, I wouldn't think the work "plethora" is ugly either.  I understand it to mean a wide variety or quantity  of something. I think cats have good memories.

MarsGal, I love to browse in the library or a bookstore.  However, haven't done it for a long time as I can access the library via the Internet and no longer have the energy to browse a bookstore although I know that Barnes and Noble have places where you can sit comfortably and read or rest.

Larry, I hope there is nothing seriously wrong with your son.  It is so worrisome for us older people when the younger family members have problems, especially with the heart.

It is a dreary 41 degrees so far this morning and we'll be lucky if we get to 50 today.  I have seen snow west of us and I hope it doesn't come our way.  Tom, Dot, Jan and I will be going to the Olive Garden today for our weekly luncheon together.  We will miss Terry and probably much of the conversation will be about him.  I wonder if Jan will bring her parents.

Today is Erin's 27th birthday.  My mother's oldest sister was also born on May 2 and she was a multi-great aunt of Erin.  Of course, Erin did not know her, but she was a favorite aunt of Norm and me.

It is rainy and windy at Grand Haven.  Cold, but a good day for viewing.

Larry, I'm so sorry to hear about your son's heart problems.  I'll say an extra prayer for him.

I have always been a book lover and my kids also.  Jeff worked part-time in a independent bookstore while he was in high school and it was always his dream to have a bookstore of his own someday.  There are very few bookstars of any kind now.  We only have a Barnes & Noble left here.

When I was Claude's 24/7 caregiver for so many years, I seldom was able to go to the library. I started ordering online from our main library and had them sent to our local branch. The kids would then pick them up.  Claude's been gone for over 8 years now but I still order books that way.

Larry - I'm sorry to hear that your son had to go to the ER, and also that he has had serious heart problems in the past. We think of our sons and daughters, as being young and strong, so it's always a shock when they have an emergency health issue. I hope we hear from you soon, telling us that he's doing better.

Mary Ann - I like Olive Garden, but it's just far enough away from here, to make it inconvenient. There is only one, and it's right in the midst of a heavy traffic area with lots of shopping centers, Costco, Home Depot, et al.  So as much as I enjoy eating there, it's too difficult to get there and to park!  We now stick closer to home when we go out to eat.

MarsGal - I also can't resist buying something when I go to Barnes & Noble.  The one closest to me is large and comfortable, with a coffee bar, and plenty of places to sit down and relax. Lots of people go in with their lap top's and sit for hours.  Even though I know it's much cheaper to order  books and other things from Amazon, I still love to spend time there, and always buy something.  I may go there later this week and look at the adult coloring books for my autistic granddaughter.  She and my daughter will be here next week, and I always like to have some little gifts for her when they come.  I bought her some coloring books for Christmas, and she loved them, and posted the finished pictures on Facebook.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, plans have changed - Jan's father is not feeling well so she is not having lunch with us today.  I don't know if she was planning to bring her folks or if she felt they could be left alone for an hour and a half; her mother is in better health than her father but her mind is going.  So we are going to Boulder Creek Country Club where we like to eat.  Being a lousy day, there should not be too many golfers to compete for tables.  I like their napa salad but it depends on the soup as to whether I get the salad or not (combination deal).

Mary Ann

Larry, my good thoughts and good vibes being sent your way.

MarsGal

Good Day, everyone! It is a beautiful, very breezy day here today.

Larry, I sure hope your son will be fine.

I took one of the books back to B&N this morning because I ordered it at a little less than half the price online. Actually, the other two books were less expensive online, but I already knew they would be a few dollars more at B&N. But to drop and extra $20 for a book is a bit much, even if it was a gift card paying for it.

I have some yardwork I want to do, but I think I will wait until tomorrow to do it. Meanwhile, there is the laundry and some paperwork to get out of the way.

Lindancer

Good afternoon, it was raining when I got up, but now the sun is trying to come out.

Larry, I am so sorry to read about your son going to the ER.  It is a good idea, they keep him to check things out. I do understand how you are feeling.

the neighbor  who cleans for me every 2 wks.(she is in her 70's) fell on her face yesterday, has a fracture bone in her face, cracked a took, and broke a bone in her foot. the doctor tole her she would be laid up
up about 8 weeks.

Maryann, hope you had a had a nice lunch.  I have not been to and Olive Garden, in a few years.  the nearest one from her is about 20 miles away.

Gloria, because Jan could not come today, we did not go to the Olive Garden but went to a nearby Boulder Creek golf course.  When we were going to the Olive Garden, it was to accommodate Jan who lives nearer that restaurant.  She was going to bring her parents but her father was not feeling well and he can not be left alone.  We will go there another time.  Or we will go to Jan's house.  Jan's parents both have been diagnosed with Alz's, however, in the early stages.  Poor Jan, she has so much - too much - going for her these days.  She works for Hospice but also has been doing some volunteer work there too.  She is not going to volunteer, Dot is not going to volunteer any more.  Terry had been volunteering too, so there will be three fewer volunteers now.

One broken wrist later:

On the sidewalks here in Portland, they allow restaurants set  up a place to put out a couple of tables, so people can "dine out" in nice weather.

I was out for a stroll  Sunday afternoon, and I managed to inadvertently plow into the barrier around the tables, and fell
landing on my hand, bending it backwards, dislocating and breaking some of my wrist bones on my right hand/arm.

So I am now in the process off healing and recovery with my right arm splinted....  and you know the rest.    No operations needed,  just a series of painful manipulations..

You all know how that goes.

i was lucky not to damage other parts of my body like hips, shoulders or head.     Just my right hand/arm...

It will take a few days for me to get back to feeling like participating on line.
I really am just fine and a bit humiliated..  (For sure}

:'(  So sorry Sandy.

FlaJean

Larry, I sure hope all goes well with your son.

Sandy, it seems those accidents happen so suddenly and when you least expect them.  Hopefully, you will heal quickly.

My oldest grandson will be 36 in two days and he was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.  He's trying to stay upbeat and positive for his wife and two little ones.  It sure is heartbreaking for us.  Praying and hoping the treatments work.

Marilyne

FlaJean - I'm so very sorry to hear about your grandson.  What a difficult situation for a young family to deal with.  Cancer treatment is so much better and more successful than it was in the past, that his changes of a complete recovery are very good.  I will be thinking about him, and hoping for the very best.  Please keep us posted on how he's doing.

Mary Ann

Sandy, we all do unexpected things that end up as accidents.  I know, because I broke my leg about 30+ years ago.  Fortunately for me, it was my left leg and I could drive.  I hope you get along OK and I am sure you will because of your upbeat attitude.

Jean, I am so sorry to hear about your grandson.  He is so young.

Hi everyone on another clear and pleasant morning here in South Carolina.  We are suppose to get into the mid 80's this afternoon.  The good news is that Scott didn't have a heart attack and they found nothing that could be attributed to the pain and disorientation he was experiencing.  In fact, he told hi mother than the hospital doctor had implied he wasn't having the pain he was having.  He will see his cardiologist as soon as he can get in to see her.

I did see the cardiologist yesterday.  She took me off of one of the medicines I have taken for years, ordered a bunch of blood tests and a limited Echo to see how symmetrically the walls of the heart are, i.e., are they functioning together or at different times.  She also gave me a prescription for nitro patches to use if needed.  I have to go back a week from Friday to see her to see how I am doing without the stopped medicine and find the results of the Echo. Nothing one the schedule for today unless Scott and Jennifer want to eat dinner at the Church. I did cancel our reservations but know there would be no problem if we showed up as there are always those planned for that don't show up plus there is always plenty of food.

Mary Ann, it was a relief to learn that Scott had not had a heart attack. Sorry to read that Jan wasn't able to join you for lunch but hope you enjoyed your lunch at the country club. We haven't gone to one of those since we moved but ate there many times in our old community.

Mary, thanks to you and other who included Scott in your thoughts and prayers.  I have always loved books and bookstores.  I used to have a lot of books but got rid of them in a garage sale when we left the Kansas City area many years ago.  I now have a large library of Ebooks but seem to be gravitating to audiobooks as our library system has so many available and it is so much easier on my eyes, which I usually have closed while I listen to the book.  Too bad your son couldn't realize his dream of having a bookstore.  Does he still read a lot? I liked going through the book catalogs on the library website and putting them on request.  However, it has now been a long time since I have done so.

Marilyne, you are right about having a hard time thinking of our children as older with their own set of physical problems.  Our son is now 54 years old.  My wife got interested in the adult coloring books and has a couple of the pencils but really never was very interested in working on them.  Nice that is something that your autistic granddaughter really enjoys.

Joan, I appreciate your good thoughts and good vibes for our son.

MarsGal, it really pays to shop around for books and other items.  Unfortunately our brick and mortar stores are quickly disappearing but that is the nature of competition.  Glad you could save a few dollars.  Hope you didn't overdo on the yard work.

deAngel, this certainly has been a tough week for you with the news of your nephew and now the lady who cleans for you falling.

JeanneP, I hope the guy had a wet suit on.  That sounds like something that would be very risky at this time of year.

Sandy, I would think the restaurant would have liability for putting things on the sidewalk like a barricade.  Glad you didn't need to have surgery.

Jean, that is so young to have cancer and for it to be so advanced.  A positive attitude can do so much for healing and he certainly has a lot of fight for with a young family.

Joy

Jean, my thoughts are with you and your family.  Yes, your grandson is so young,  but that is in his favor.  So many new treatments now that , hopefully, he will have a good outcome.   Is he the one who lives up here in Maryland?

All is well here.  Supposed to get up to 82 today.  That will be a change.  ;)  We have been having rain off and on for a week.  Have a good day all and HUGS all around,

Marilyne

joan - It finally started to warm up here too, but of course it's either feast or famine!  Jumped from the low 60's to the 80's and today expected to be in the 90's.  Why not just some comfortable 70's?  ::)

June Drabek

W.Joan, I would welcome some rain down here. We are scheduled for some, but I will believe it when I see it.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Marilyne, need to open my window soon.  love the fresh air and look forward to it.

June, would share the rain with you gladly.  We have seen enough this Winter to water your area and mine for a couple of years.  LOL

Good afternoon from a drab and gray Interior. We are in the midst of drizzles again after two days of sunshine and plus sixties. Monday we had the nonessential electric turned off for five afternoon hours while the city replaced light poles and electrical wires. They also tore up the pavement to lay new underground lines. They are still out today and still occasionally shaking this building with their digging and work. Wandering about the neighborhood for five hours is not as easy as it once was....

Here is the link to some photos.

Patricia - What an interesting group of photos . . . I enjoyed looking at them, and will look again. (I always miss things on my first viewing!)  I see you got some nice comments in, Photos Old and New.  I'm also wondering about the colorful mural?  Keep us posted, as the street work progresses.

angelface555

Marilyne, there s a program here funded by something I believe is called one percent for art? Or something similar, but anyway it is very popular and so many buildings have murals, sidewalk corners, vents, etc. are painted. It has been going on for over ten years because some buildings with murals have been taken down and others put up in their place.

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  According tot he forecast we will be getting some rain, possibility some heavy thunderstorms, later today.  Pat has a doctor's appointment at 10:30 with her GP as she needs a paper prescription for her pain medication.  She had refills on her previous prescription but didn't realize the prescription was good for only 3 months since it contains a narcotic type drug.  We plan on eating at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant on our way home and then won't need to worry about a main meal this evening.

Yesterday was a quiet day.  Scott and Jennifer did join me at the Church for our Wednesday night dinner.  It was very well attended as it was Taco Night and also because following the meal they were having a Lip Sync contest.  We did not stay for that event.  Scott and Jennifer then came out to the house.  Scott was feeling better yesterday and plans on going back to work this evening.

Janet, it sounds like a lot of food prices will go up with the loss of so much of the wheat crop.  I remember we had to replant corn crops a few years when the initial planting was ruined in some fashion.  Scott had several tests including a new test that is able to make a 360 degree picture of the heart.  It sounds like it should eliminate the need for so many heart caths.  They also did a test to look at his brain as he was experiencing some disorientation.  All the tests came back negative, thankfully.  He was very displeased with the doctor who works for the hospital who told him he wasn't experiencing the pain he was still having when they sent him home.  I am sure Beth is tired of where she is but she certainly couldn't care for herself and needs the help from the home.

Joan and Marilyne, it seems we are skipping Spring some years going from winter weather to summer weather.  Of course here we really sort of skipped winter.

Patricia, I looked at your photos.  I am sure things will be nice when they are done and having underground utilities is very nice.  Will this eliminate the poles and wires?  That was a very colorful mural and thanks for explaining why they are there.

Several years ago when I was on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, they took me to a town north of Victoria where most of the buildings had murals on them.  Many of them were of prominent people - past and present - in the area.  Several were of Native Americans.  I think the town was Chamas or something like that; I'd have to get out a map to identify it.  PS - I wasn't even close.  I did get out my map and the town is Chemainus.

Our temperature about 7:30 was 44, a great improvement over the 29 degrees of yesterday, however, there was about 2 hours difference too.

The new season has started - our lawn guys are mowing.  It's kind of like - if you hear mowing, it's Thursday.

Tom told me he thought the cat would be unhappy with me - it seems I left him out on the deck last night.  He may have jumped down because Tom sleeps in the lower level.  Kendrick couldn't have been too unhappy because I woke up in the early hours and coughed and the cat took off from my bed like greased lightning.

Mary Ann

I added some photos from my Monday walk around town as well as some Native artwork from one of the tribal halls exibits here.
