Good afternoon, on this very hot day.  78 when I got up.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Joan and many more.

Patricia I think most men had one suit,  When my children were going to school dungarees (as we called them) were not allow, At work no slacks only suits are dresses. always wore high heels.  Later years we were allowed to wear only pant suits. We were told when a patient was being admitted, it made a difference if we looked neat, as they were nervous  enough.

Larry dress codes have really changed, since i was a girl.

Patricia, my maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather both were one of 13 children.  Even my paternal grandparents had six children, but two of them died before my dad was born and only Dad and his brother married and had children.  In Mother's family, there were four children, but the boy died when he was four, many years before Mother was born, so there were the three sisters and one of them did not marry.

My mother made and wore many aprons and I kept them for years after she died.  I have one apron that I bought and I'd have to hunt to find it.  I doubt my mother ever bought an apron.

Being a teacher, Dad always had to wear "good" clothes, however, his suit coats and trousers didn't always match, but they did coordinate.  He would take the coat off and hang it up at school, maybe roll up his sleeves; he was a shop teacher - printing presses.  I don't think Dad ever owned a pair of jeans, but they weren't so stylish in those days.  Weekends, he wore older trousers.

Happy Birthday, Joan, and may you have many, many more.

Gloria, Spencer rings a bell with me as far as corsets were concerned, but no one came to our house to fit my mother, she ordered from Sears or Wards catalogs.  Norm and I used to love looking through those catalogs and when the Christmas catalogs came, we had a ball choosing what we wanted.  Of course, we didn't get everything we picked, maybe we got none of them, but it was fun anyway.

Radar shows we should have a nice day today and our temperature is in the low 70s so far.  My kind of weather because both doors are open.  Soon I'll go out on the deck and let the cat play among my plants.  Or he may stalk a bird or two.  He wouldn't know what to do with a bird if he caught one, but if something moves, he's very alert.

Gloria, I wore dresses except for the few weeks after I broke my leg.  Mostly those who wore slacks were neat.  But when hot pants were "in", one of the women who was too old to wear them, did wear them and she also did not have the figure for them.  He sister was secretary to the head honcho of our division and I think she was an embarrassment to the sister.  My shorts are not of the hot pant variety!

Callie, I met to tell you I love my TV ears I have them on all three set. they are very light weight, they work for me. for the last 5 years.

i am quite stressed and worn out. My nephew that was hurt is staying with me until he has to fly back Sat. AM to Calif.  My other nephew brought him from Pa. ,as his wife was flying in from Tokyo to Kennedy
Airport on Wed. and Keith ticket is from LaGuardia A,P. When he came from Calif, he plan to leave from NY as he would be staying with me. Of course he did not know he would have and accident in Pa. Now he is here. He can only use one arm, as the other is in a cast, he has may broken ribs, and broken sternum.

Thank you Lindancer and Mary Ann for the Birthday wishes.  :)  Don't feel 84 but then not quite sure what an 84 yr. old is supposed to feel like.  LOL

Gloria, I am so sorry to hear you are stressed out with your nephew's visit and neither he or you able to do much. I am sure he wishes it was otherwise. I also wish and or hope that he will get a big payout from those responsible, but I do know how that works.

My dad had a couple of suits. I guess I should have said tux rather than a suit but he wasn't fond of them at all, any suits. My mom, when we were teenagers, purchased some denim and sewed my dad a pair of jeans but he never wore them.

Have you heard about the on the run twenty-six-year-old girl scout leader in Kentucky who made off with $15000.00 worth of unpaid girl scout cookies? You can't make this stuff up!  ::)

Joan, I didn't know it was your birthday! I hope it is everything you wanted for the day!
:wave2: :happybday: :congrats:

Mary Ann

Joan, I don't know how I'm supposed to feel at my age, either, but as long as I feel good, I'll take it!

Have you noticed some baby storks in the nests?

Mary Ann

wjoan

Mary Ann, hard to see but it looks like the bottom one has 2 chicks in it.

Marilyne

wjoan:happybday:  I hope you're having a nice day. Don't forget the cake & ice cream!

My grandmother and my mother always wore aprons, when they were doing anything in the kitchen.  They would insist that I wear one when washing dishes, cooking, etc.  However, once I left home and had my own houses to take care of, I never again wore an apron.  It drove my mom nuts, when she would come to visit, and there were no aprons! Especially when it was a holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas, and there was a lot of cooking to do. Finally she started bringing an apron with her when she came, and often left them for the next visit.

Well, she would be very happy to see that I'm now wearing aprons!  My arthritic hands are so clumsy, that I'm constantly dropping food when I'm preparing a meal, but I especially make a mess when I'm sitting at the table eating! Now it's truly a matter of protecting my clothing from food stains! (What a slob!) LOL

wjoan

Thanks Marilyne, no cake but I do have some chocolate ice cream.  :)  Thanks

Lindancer

WJoan, at 93 you seem still like a kid to me. :) I am sure june and MaryAnn feel the same way. I was still playing golf.

I am showing my age. My DIL in Fla. sent me money to buy plants for the yard,, I put the check back in the envelop to save, but must have torn it up with the other envelops and threw it away/ I think they call it a senior moment.

i also think I had another moment as i posted in here this AM and meant to post in Soda Shop. mow I do not know how to move it. Oh well maybe I will be more careful the next time.

Patricia Taffy stays in the bedroom all day, now that Keith is here.

Hi everyone.  This has been an interesting morning.  Late yesterday afternoon our kitchen sink clogged up and so I had to call our handyman to fix it and he was here shortly after 8 am.  Then I get a call regarding my echo cardiogram that was scheduled for 3 pm asking if I could come in at 11 or 2 pm today.  I said I would be happy to be there at 11 rather than late this afternoon.  Our cleaning lady should be here before very long.  That is enough for one day.  I am hopeful Pat will want to go out to eat late this afternoon for our evening meal.

I didn't make it to the Wisdom group yesterday as after going to coffee and returning my friend home I decided I was just too tired to go back downtown and try to concentrate for an hour.

Patricia, it sounds like your mother was a very talented and accomplished person.  I hadn't heard about the girl scout leader and the unpaid girl scout cookies.

Marilyne, I am sure you are not a slob.  Pat has always had a problem with getting something on her clothes when eating.  At home she has the clips on a string that goes around her neck and she attaches the napkins to it to protect her clothes.

deAngel, I have never had a lot of clothes.  I had to have some suits while I worked but after retiring am down to one black suit and a couple of pair of nice Sunday pants and four suit coats I can wear with them.  I do have several everyday type outfits.  You are sure right about dress codes.  Years ago I had a set of TV Ears but didn't care for them and find the bluetooth over the ear type headphones more to my liking.  I can certainly understand your being stressed with your nephew there although sure you are happy to see him.  Just having someone else in our house disrupts our routines and it sounds like he is not able to do much on his own.

Mary Ann, my suit coats and slacks do not match either but they are not complete suits.  I do try to dress up once a week to attend church but don't wear a tie or coat during the summer months.

Lindancer

JeanneP, thanks so much for your help. I am good at turning the computer on and off. :)

Larry, I am enjoying my nephew to a point. I think you understand. When my husband died he came out from the city, nearly every weekend to help get things straighten out. Now I can help him, I am at a loss, as my legs and breathing are not great. As you say I am not use to anyone here, and then 4 days. He is of very little help, as his right arm is in a large cast, he also is in pain from the broken ribs and fractured sternum. I am now trying to get him a ride into LaGuardia AP. No one who lives in the park that I know drives into the city anymore.  I will have to get limousine service.  I will be happy when I know he is safely back in Calif.

Marilyne

Daughter and granddaughter left this morning, so all is quiet around here now.  It was nice having them here, even though it was only for a few days.

Larry, I was just kidding about being a slob, but sometimes I get so mad at myself!  Getting a good grip on a spoon or fork is not so easy anymore.  Good to know that Pat also has a problem, so I know I'm in good company!  Please let us know about your echo cardiogram?  As I mentioned, my doc had very little to say about mine, except that he didn't see anything that needed immediate attention.  Then in the next breath, he said he thought I might benefit from a pacemaker, because my heart rate is so slow.  So I guess I'll find out when I see him in early June.

Gloria de - I feel bad for your poor nephew.  It sounds like he must be in a lot of pain.  I didn't realize that he lives out here in California.  I know you'll be glad when he is safely back home again, and you can relax and not worry so much.

Mary Ann - You haven't checked in today, I don't think?  Maybe in another discussion that I don't read.  I usually look at Soda Shoppe, so I see you haven't posted in there either.  I hope that everything is okay, and that maybe you're just having some computer trouble?

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I thought I had posted here today, but I see I haven't.  I've been busy doing my usual nothing.  Tom and I did go to Jimmy John's for lunch and we each had a sub - mine was Turkey Tom and Tom's was Tuna Something.  Not expensive and good.  I did watch golf this afternoon but I don't know who was ahead.  The proof will be in the pudding on Sunday, so I don't care if I miss the end before then.  Annie came tonight to take care of the cat's litter and some of Tom's trash, however, trash was picked up today and we both had some.  Also it was recycle day so that stuff went out too.

I asked Annie if she had time to change my bedding and to cut my toenails.  It is disgusting when I can do neither of those things but she is a good help.  At least my toenails are cut before I go to Indps.

Other than that, things are as usual.  Oh, I did go after the mail but there was nothing of importance there.

The cat is always glad to see Annie because she pays attention to him, more than I do.  He helped me make my bed this morning and I couldn't complete it because he was on the cover.  I got ready for the day and later I went to the bedroom and decided to complete making the bed.  I picked up one fold of the cover and there was Kendrick under the cover.  He likes to sleep with something over him.

Hi everyone.  It is an overcast and very humid morning as I found when I went to put letters in the mailbox.

I have been busy this morning and made myself a to-do list of things I hope to accomplish today and have several done already but had to sit down and rest.  I soon will fix Pat's sausage muffins and have already fried the sausage.  I have grated the two pounds of cheese.

On Wednesday Scott rearranged our family room furniture so that my easy chair is facing the TV, as does Pat's. rather than be to the side.  I was finding that if I watched the TV my neck started hurting so we put the divan where my chair and side table had been.  Now the electrical cords are visible back of the end table next to my chair so I need to get them hidden as much as possible as they are unsightly.  We have a plan in mind and hope it will work. I also need to bring Pat's laptop down and get the software all updated, which is not a hard job.

Last evening we went to the other new restaurant in North Augusta that opened last week. It is called Diablo's and is called a Southwest Grill.  It was quite tasty and I know we will go back from time to time.

deAngel, it sounds like you have a full plate for a few days.  I know you are happy to help him but just don't overdo and put yourself back into the hospital.

Marilyne, the Echo Cardiogram was a limited one just lookiing at the sides of the heart to determine if they are functioning together as they should.  It took no more than 10 minutes, if that, to do this limited test.  Pat and I both see the Cardiologist next Wednesday.  Don't fret if you need a pacemaker.  I have had one for at least ten years that included a defibrillator.  It does pace my heart about 98 percent of the time.  After seven years it had to be replaced and that was a breeze.  I am not even aware of it unless I touch the spot in the upper left side of my chest where it is implanted.

Mary Ann, if you are like me I find it takes quite awhile to get that nothing done.  :)  Glad to see your posting.  I have never eaten at Jimmy John's although we had one close to us where we lived.  I checked the golf scores this morning and see that Jason Kokrak is a -12 and is five points ahead of everyone else.  For the second week in a row my favorite player Jason Spieth didn't make the cut.  I will likely watch some of it this afternoon and then tomorrow after will watch to the finish.  It sounds like Kendrick is very satisfied with the bed partially made.

Mary Ann

Larry, I so often forget what day it is.  I know today is Saturday because I've showered and washed my hair but I forgot about the golf.  So often, it doesn't come on until 1 pm anyway, but when I forget about it, it doesn't make any difference when it comes on.

It is funny with the golf tours; just because one player wins a tour, he is expected to win big thereafter.  And it doesn't work out that way.  I don't recall Kokrak winning before but I know he's been in the top 10 so I am familiar with his name.  I'm sorry Spieth didn't make the cut.  Now I'll have to look in to see who did make the cut.

Kendrick did try to help me make my bed this morning and I left the flap that goes over the pillows available if he wanted to get under it, however, he is now sleeping on top of the flap.

Tom brought up my clean clothes so now I can think about packing.  My slacks had so much cat hair on them and I am wearing other things this week so I don't have to wear the slacks.  However!  If the weather should turn cold, I'd be forced to wear something warmer.

Mary Ann

Lindancer

Good afternoon, right now I have a sweater on, yesterday I had the AC working it was 92 to day is 62.  Suppose to be cool all next week.

MaryAnn, Taffy gives me a hard time sometimes when i am making the bed, she tries to ketch the sheets, as I am trying to straighten them out.

Larry, Keith finally got off at 6'30 this morning.  That also was stressful, he thought he had a ride to LaGuardia but the fellow decided that was to take him, called and said he could not make it. We called different Van and car service to the airport, the cheapest was $350.!!
So he called a few friends and everyone was bury.  Called and old school pal in Patchogue that he talkes to some times on Face Book, and he said he would be glad to come out and take him into the city.

As for the 35 year old tickets he finally got to Southampton and went before a judge, and he laughed and dismissed. this is ticket #39  He asked if there was some kind of card he could carry to show this is all identity theft. The court said they would mail him one. The person who was using his ID, has used it all up and down the east cost. He was driving for Uber in Calif. and lost his job because of  the tickets, it showed that he had not paid. When he called NY they said he had to come before a judge. the other states dismissed the tickets. They were between 1988 and 1990.  I am sorry, guess that is more then you want to know.  But it can happen to anyone, my husband had a card he carried saying he was a victim of ID theft.  Which happen when he was in the city to get his pacemaker.  The person was in the Bronx

I usually stay home on Saturday, because dealing with the weekend traffic and the long lines in the grocery stores is too exhausting for me.  I was going to go to Bed,Bath & Beyond, today, and buy a new Mr. Coffee.  My old one is just about ready to call it quits . . . takes about 20 minutes or more to slowly drip-drip-drip the coffee every morning.  However, I think I'll put up with it for two more mornings, and wait for Monday to go to BB&B.

This weekend and next, are two that my husband really enjoys and looks forward to every year. Memorial Week, is when the old World War II airplanes fly into a Naval Airbase near us called Moffett Field, for The Wings of Freedom Tour.  They call these old planes, The War Birds. Many of you who remember WWII, would remember the B17 Flying Fortress, or the P51 Mustang?  Those two, and others from the War years, fly low, right over our house multiple times during this coming week.  They're extremely noisy, but it's not annoying at all.  Every time we hear one approaching, my husband rushes out the door and watches it fly overhead.  He never tires of looking at them.  They offer rides in the B17, but it costs $450 for one person!  It would be a thrill for my husband to take a ride in one, but just way too pricey.

Mary Ann - When are you leaving for Indianapolis?  Sounds like it will be a nice vacation for you, although Kendrick will miss you!  This time of year, you probably need to take clothing for both hot and cold weather.  Right now we're having temps in the high 80's, but supposed to be a cold front moving in next week, so temps will drop into the 60's.

junee

Marilyne
I certainly have a good reason to remember The B17 Flying Fortress.  May 1942 I was in a RAAF training school, and returning from leave , can you imagine as I entered the gate to see on our parade Ground a B17.  I had never been in a plane or even been near a plane.
This was not an aerodrome but apparently this plane had either run out of gas or lost. Must go back to look up about it on Google.
A few days later that huge machine took off from a short runway  but lifted up over the water that lapped the parade ground.  Of course all emergencies were standing by.
Those planes were certainly Flying Fortresses and Australia certainly welcomed them, as our country was surely under threat of invasion.  Interesting that  your husband has that interest in B17.

Mary Ann

Junee, how interesting that you were so close to that B-17.  I remember the number, but I would not be able to identify the plane.  I think I could identify a B-52.  Norm would have been able to identify those planes.  He was 12 when WW II began and young boys were (and are) interested in anything like planes and cars.

Marilyn, I will go to Indps Tuesday, May 23 and return Saturday, May 27.  The two Toms will meet at Merrillville IN Tuesday afternoon and Tom H will take me either to his house or to Jim's house, now occupied by his granddaughter.  My great-niece, Erin, will pick me up from wherever I am on Saturday and bring me home.  She will go back on Sunday, after staying overnight with her mother and grandparents.  She bought my car so I will be riding in it again.

Gloria d, that's terrible that NY made your grandson come all the way from CA for nothing, and with him being in a serious accident.  I think I'd complain, but I have no idea who to complain to!

Mary Ann

JeanneP

What a crazy last 4 days. I was doing really good getting closets all cleaned out and gathering things I just wanted to get rid of. So 2 weeks ago in my nauborhood it was decided there would be a big yards sales. Sounded perfect for me. had 14 pr shoes never worn . dozens of T. shirts and tops. other clothing and few Electric things never use. Such a pile. Got all washed ironed ready to just put out on Patio from 8am to 4pm Today Sat. So tired from doing all that but happy. What happen. Friday Night Such a storm came .45 mile winds. Stayed storming until 1:30pm today Saturday . Had tables set up outside. Sale just could not be done. Stuck with all the stuff ready to go. So I just decided not coming back in the house. I put everything in my car and drove over at 4pm to a Charity shop a couple mile away. That sell to people for good price and part of their sales go to organizations they say. They were glad to have it all . Now got the place all cleared out again.  Came on and took a short nap.  Never again to try the Yard Sale way to go.
Looking out and looks like big storms coming again. Crazy weather

Only other thing I did was run the sweeper and sucked the charger cord from my IPad that was left in the floor outlet. Took over a hour to get that all unwrapped.

Also it got down to Friday morning to 42 deg. Furnace would not come one so had to call the company who came out and had to put a new Thermostat on. Never know if summer will come.

So that is my fun for the week.  Going to not do another thing for the next 2 days.
JeanneP

Mary Ann

Jeanne, as they say, it never rains but it pours.  Wouldn't your neighborhood reschedule the sales?  Prospective customers must have been disappointed.  We used to have sales and my garage neighbor and I went together; I think I made $60 one year.  I should get rid of a lot myself, but I don't have the ambition or strength to get things together.  Terry's wife was helping me at the end of last year, but Christmas came, then they became grandparents and went to California to meet their grandson, then Terry died and I don't know if we'll ever get at it again.  We did accomplish a lot and at the end of the day whatever was designated for Goodwill went in a bag and she took it to Goodwill.  So it did not stay here.

I had to laugh at your getting the cord stuck in your vacuum.  I know it was not funny to you, but I still had to laugh.

It looks as if your storm went directly west into Indiana.  We may get some rain, but no storm shows on radar.

Mary Ann

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  It is another overcast morning.  It is cooler this morning and only suppose to get up to 82, which will be a pleasant change.  We do have an 80% chance of rain today.  Pat and I will go to Sunday School and Church this morning, get something to eat before we come home and then have a restful rest of the day.

Mary Ann, the Sunday golf is what I really enjoy as that is coming down to the winner.

deAngel, I can almost feel the stress that Keith and you had when his ride to the airport feel through and the problem of lining up someone else to take him.  Glad he didn't have to spend $350 to get there. I hadn't realized that ticket that got Keith into all the problem with the accident was a matter of identity theft.  I hope that is resolved for him.

Marilyne, I am like you in not trying to shop on a Saturday although in this little town it isn't too much of a problem, especially if I go out early.  Glad your husband enjoys the old war planes.

Junee, we are watching a series on Netflix call Foyles War and it deals with Britian during the second world war and how terrible the conditions were there.  They show some of the old planes.

JeanneP, we had a similar experience with a yard sale.  Pat and my mother had worked long hours getting everything to be sold in great and clean condition and pricing things only to sell just a few things.  The rest went to charity and did not come back into the house.  You sure didn't have the best of weeks.  Hope that is nothing serious with your furnace.

Jeanne Lee

Electric outlet replaced and everything back to as normal as anything ever is in my house.

Jeanne Lee, good to see your post this morning.  :)

Marilyne

Mary Ann- Sounds like a well planned Indiana vacation ahead for you.  It's good to get away a couple of times a year and enjoy a change of scenery.  I'm hoping for an overnighter soon, to visit my brother and his wife.  They live about a hundred miles North of us, in Redwood country.  It's always cool and relaxing up there.

Nothing happening here today.  The temps are supposed to go above 90 degrees, so I'll stay inside most of the day.  My cat Winnie, loves the hot weather!  He wants to be out on the deck most of the day, and into the evening.  He looks kind of wilted to me, but he seems happy about it.  At his advanced age, maybe the dry heat feels good on those old bones?

Joy

MaryAnn,   hope you will have a nice trip to Indianapolis.  I know you enjoy being with your friends there.  And,  did see where you will be attending a wedding.  That makes it even more special.    Have a good time

Joan, nice to see your message this morning.  Always nice to see your greetings.  You have enough on your mind right now, so don't worry about posting your usual menu and little tid-bits.  We all want you to get stronger and be able to enjoy your new surroundings.  You will get back to all  the other things  with time.  I know that moving is a very traumatic event even for someone who is in the best of health.
