Shirley, that's a shame about your teeth.  I have always, with one exception, had dentists I liked - not that I liked going to them, but I feel it helped my dental experiences.  I had soft teeth to begin with and had fillings in probably every tooth except the eight in front - top and bottom.  Somewhere along the line my teeth got harder and also I began to take better care of them so I still have fillings in those teeth and I have 13-14 crowns and I have all of my roots which makes it possible to have those crowns - and I'm going to get another in a couple of weeks!

Shirley, these little girls are only four months old, so not able to play with them yet.  They did seem obvious to those around them, however, and one even seemed to be watching the TV (golf).

I just learned my longest-time friend died yesterday.  She was two years younger than I am.  We didn't see each other often, but we did keep in touch.  What makes it hard is there is no one to tell - all other of my long-time friends have died too.  Another "benefit" of getting older!

Hi everyone. It looks like it is going to be another overcast, cloudy day with highs in the 90's again as it has been the last several days. It looks like we will be having some rain over the next several days.  I did remember to turn off my sprinkler system late last evening.  I have no plans to leave the house today other than to get the mail.  Pat has a doctor's appointment this morning but said she didn't think I would need to go with her.  She slept in a little later than usual so I fixed her breakfast to give her a little more time before she has to leave.

I am dealing with Internet problems this morning and pretty certain my hard drive on my big desktop computer has failed.  I have an old computer that I am going to try to use but for some reason it doesn't want to find the Internet.

After church yesterday it was so hot out we decided to get a fried chicken dinner for Pat and I still have half of my lunch from Saturday for my Sunday meal.

Shirley, I always appreciate seeing your input and hope you can become more active again.  What an ordeal you are having with your teeth.  They certainly shouldn't be making your mouth sore.  It has been several years since I have watched baseball.  I watched it a lot when they were doing so well with Glavine and the other fine pitchers they had but they have sort of fallen on hard times.  We are getting a new baseball stadium being built in North Augusta, down by the Savannah River that is suppose to be ready for the 2018 season but am doubtful that I will ever go to it due to the walking that would be involved.  This will be for an AA or AAA club related to one of the major league teams.

Thank you all for the Father's Day greetings.

Marilyne, so sorry to hear that you daughter was laid off from her job.  Hopefully she soon will find another one that she will like even better.  Nice she could be with you yesterday. I bet Winnie will be glad to have access to the upper floor of your home today.  Do you have a finished basement that you can go to when it gets so hot.  You certainly are having hotter temperatures than we are now.

deAngel, sure hope you are feeling much better and that sore throat is a thing of the past. It just sounds like you may have lost your sign in to the discussion but glad to see you are now able to post.

Mary Ann, you are so fortunate to be able to see those new babies and see how quickly they are growing.  It always brings job to my heart to see little ones.  Speaking of the strange package you received, I was finally able to contact the buyer of our last home where the package for me had been delivered and he plans on mailing it this afternoon so another problem will be solved.  He also said he has seen our former neighbors outside.  I haven't been able to get them on the phone and was concerned about them but it sounds like they are OK.  That was a nice finish to the golf tournament yesterday and what had looked like it would be a close finish suddenly took a turn and the winner played wonderful golf to pull away from the pack.  Sorry to read of the loss of your long-time friend.

Marilyne

shirleyn - Good to see you see you here this morning! I also have a lot of problems with my teeth, and will have to go to the dentist soon, and start in on a lot of painful visits. I'm going to wait until after the middle of July, if possible, as we have so many other obligations until then.

We will be attending a big party on Saturday, in honor of our grandson and granddaughter, who both just graduated from college.  Jessica from LSU, in May, and Jake from Oregon State U, just this past weekend.  It will be a large gathering with lots  of friends and relatives.  They are our two youngest grandchildren.

We also have a memorial service and luncheon to attend this week, for my husband AJ's  cousin.  He died recently, two years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's.  That will also be a large gathering, with all members of AJ's family.

Maybe after July 4th, we'll drive down to Long Beach, Southern CA, to see my cousin, who has been in a rehab hospital for at least a month.  She isn't doing well, so I feel like I need to get on down there ASAP.

Mary Ann - I'm glad you had a chance to see and hold the twins!  I hope that you'll post the pictures that you took, in the Photo forum? I'd love to see have they have grown.

Larry - I wanted to ask you a question about something, but now I can't remember what! ::). I will return later, when it comes back to me.

angelface555

Good morning! I wanted to say hello to Shirley and commiserate with both you and MaryAnn about our teeth as mine are soft too and I will be looking at both crowns and bridges being replaced in the next few months. I've been avoiding that.

MaryAnn, babies are sweet and you are lucky to have them in the family. I also saw the three generational photo on Facebook.

Marilyne, I'm sorry about your daughter. I was working for a company years ago that sent out the word that each store had to lay off 7% of their staff arbitrarily and I was one of 200 laid off at my job. It was an experience I have never forgotten and it may have helped their bottom line but not their staff! That is a wonderful thing for your youngest grandchildren! I hope they have a wonderful time at their party!

We will be having a memorial service this week for Zeb. His entire family is gathering and I think no one was expecting this. Someone actually told the mother that she still had the other two! People can be such idiots!

They had a huge party, Sunday for the Solstice due to the somewhat new policy of having a party any old time as the actual solstice is Wednesday. One of the street fairs was just two blocks away and their party went on until one AM. So I was up until at least two. I'm beginning to hate loudspeakers...

There are also numerous soccer, softball and baseball fields around town so loudspeakers and the roar of the crowds is a common theme the majority of summer nights and weekends. Unfortunately, there is no way to escape all of it unless you go upriver quite a ways.

Gloria, I hope you are feeling better now. I always try to drink lots of tea with honey and lemon and run my humidifier when I'm ill. I saw two posts from you in the soda shop yesterday.

Yesterday I opened my door to get a notice from the permanent clip by the side. Farrah came up, crouched, looked both ways, then she looked up at me, back down and looking both ways again before finally actually shaking her head and returning to the living room. She is a character.  :)

Graduation is all over now and pics up on Facebook.  One is missing but we will find it and post it.  It is of Dan and his gal friend and the blonde gal is a friend of his who also cleans my apt. for me.  Will post when we can.

Father's day was busy.  Put up a pic of my Dad <who I miss terribly> and talked to Candy and then Dan and his gal friend dropped by for a visit.  Kept me out of trouble for a bit.  LOL

Tis 10:30 and already 82 degrees.  Gonna be a hot one.

Mary Ann

I swear Kendrick has ESP.  He will be nowhere in sight when I go to my bedroom to make the bed and all I have to do is pull up the sheet and he's there.  I just gathered my clothes and went to the bathroom to get ready for the day and when I got back to the bedroom, he was elsewhere so I could finish the job.  He knows when 10 pm comes around because he comes in to remind me it is his bedtime.

I took another 3-generation picture yesterday of Tom, James and the twin girls.  I haven't sent the picture to anyone yet but I will send one to Tom in hopes he puts it on Facebook.

What a horrible thing to tell a mother after the death of a child!

Larry, I hope you get your Internet problem settled.

Mary Ann

angelface555

MaryAnn, that sort of thing is very common unfortunately. I remember being asked shortly after my daughter's death from a brain tumor, about some headaches someone was having and did I think she also had a brain tumor?

We got up to 92 today.  Same for tomorrow.

Good Morning, everyone from the warm
and a bit humid, rocky coast of Maine.

After today it is suppose to be dryer and a bit cooler,
for the next ten days.     (My kind of weather) ...

Tomorrow my Kelly leaves for her three week stay in
Switzerland, Ireland and Germany/ Italy ...
She will be visiting and hiking with her friends
from there.      I of course,  am worried about her,   but
hope that she has a great time.    Maggie and Maeve
will also be joining her next week.   They will be gone for
six weeks.    (Oy Vey!)

I don;t want to wish the Summer a  way, but I wish my gals
back home safe and sound.

All is well for me here on the rocky coast.
My wing is healing slowly,  but much easier now with
the soft cast.

Have a good day,
everyone!

Sandy

Hi everyone. It looks like we well be staying in the high 70's today with a 90% chance of rain throughout most of the day.  It likely will be raining when I make a quick trip downtown to pick up our online grocery order from Walmart and a quick stop at Office Depot for a new hard drive for my desktop.  Then I should be able to stay in for today.

Yesterday afternoon we did go to Costco and loaded up our freezer with meat, probably enough to last us 4 months or more.  I forgot to take over the ink cartridges for refill so may try to drop them off this morning while I go downtown and then stop back by and pick them up either later today or tomorrow.  I have already accomplished several routine household duties this morning.

Marilyne and Patricia, I sure don't envy you both having serious dental problems to deal with.  My teeth seem to have hit a point where there have not been too many problems in the last couple of years although have certainly had my share of bridges and filling and crowns over the years.

Marilyne, I hope the party is a lot of fun for your grandchildren.  It is something to have two graduating from college the same year. I'll be here when you think of your question.

Patricia, I firmly believe it isn't necessary to say more than you are sorry for a loss and give a big hug to the person grieving.  At least that has been my experience, especially when Stacey died and we had the Memorial Service. So many of our friends came and that was so comforting.  I still haven't been able to look at the guest book and may never do so. It sounds like you need to get some ear plugs to shut off the noise from the street that gets to your apartment. Farrah knows where it is safe for her and stays in her comfort zone.

Joan, it sounds like you were kept busy on Father's Day. You are going to be much hotter out your way today than we will be here.  We were about the same as you yesterday or a few degrees higher.

Mary Ann, I am confident that I will get the computer problems sorted out.  Fortunately I have my Chromebook, which I am now using to write, my iPad and my iPhone which I could use in a pinch.  I could use my iPhone even if the internet went down as it has a data plan and isn't dependent on my home or away internet.

Sandy, I bet today is an exciting day for Kelly and I hope she has a wonderful time. I know you will be happy to see them return home safely.

Denver

Good morning.

I am having issues when trying to get into the Soda Shoppe.  Is any one else having a problem?

GLORIA, de, I see you, too, are having problems with SS.  I posted a long post on Saturday p, I believe it was, and it never posted.
LARRY, we are going to get in the mid 90's here in Denver today.

SANDY, how exciting for your girls to be heading to Europe.  I understand your wanting them to return home safe, even at the risk of wishing your summer away.

MARYANN, I sure would love to see the three generations photo....

SHIRLEY N, sure is good to see your post, but I am sorry to read about the teeth problems.

I wish you all a good Tuesday.

Good morning. Just a quick note as I have several things going on presently. I did want to mention that I saw both postings from Jenny and from Gloria in the soda shop. June and MaryAnn also posted in the 5/29 soda shop page.

Mary Ann

I think I just read in SS, but did not post - that is for today.

Jenny, I'll see if the pictures look good enough to post.  They really are funny with two heavy set men holding two fragile little girls.

We had lunch with Dot and Terry's family today.  This is turning out to be a very busy week for me.  Usually I don't have so much activity, but this morning I had my hair cut and we usually go out to breakfast afterward.  We changed our weekly family luncheon to Tuesday and I think Tom wished it were not so, but Jan said her father wanted to get out, so we met for lunch.  Tomorrow we'll go to a funeral for a long-time friend of mine.  Tom is included because he is now my transportation.  Friday I have a dentist appointment.  The dentist is up the street, so Tom can come back here until I call him otherwise, he takes his computer with him and he can do some work in the car.  I try to pace my appointments but this week everything came at once.

I think we'll get some rain before the afternoon is over.

Thank you, JEANNE LEE.  I finally found my way into he SS, but do APPRECIATE you doing this as I was about to go crazy trying to figure out where the SS was.

MARYANN, I can almost picture the guys holding the little girls.  Bet it did look funny.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Jeanne Lee, I think that is what happened to me, I didn't see any post on SS and was wondering why and then it dawned on me that maybe I hadn't posted and sure enough I hadn't in the current session.  Been working okay since I post a quickie and then came back later and did a regular post.  Love senior moments.

larryhanna

Hi everyone. It is to be another overcast day and we are starting out with humidity of almost 90% with continued chances for rain.  The excitement for yesterday was that we experienced a 3.2 earthquake within 10 miles or so of us.  I didn't feel any shaking but heard a loud and fairly long what I thought was thunder.  However, apparently it was the impact of the earthquake.  As far as I know it didn't cause any damage in the area as realize that really isn't a very strong earthquake.

I did go and pick up the groceries yesterday at Walmart and then stopped at the Office Depot nearby and bought a new hard drive.  Scott said he was looking forward to putting it in for me.  Hopefully by tomorrow sometime I will be back using my big desktop.  The only activity on hand for today is this evening when we will have dinner with Scott and Jennifer.  As far as I know we will be eating in. Update, I think we just decided to eat out tonight and then eat in next Wednesday evening.

Jenny, be sure you are actually signed in to the SS as the posting box will not appear if you are not or if you are trying to post on a past discussion and a new discussion was recently started by Jeanne and I see she has made basically the same comment.

Mary Ann, you do have a busy week.  I am happy to be able to say this is really a light week for me with just two or three things scheduled.

Hal, these senior moments seem to be happening more often for me.  When we went to Costco on Monday afternoon I got off the Interstate and should have gone down two lights but turned at the first one and got back on the Interstate going back East.  So I had to go to the first exit off the Interstate, where we had gotten on the Interstate and repeat our drive.  That is actually the second time that has happened.  However, no harm done and just as we drove up to the entrance at Costco a lady brought back a riding cart that Pat was able to use.  If we had been a few minutes earlier there probably wouldn't have been one available.

Mary Ann

Larry, you did get the run-around when you made that wrong turn, didn't you?  Been there, done that!

In a few minutes we're leaving for my long-time friend's funeral.  First we have to go by Tom's lady friend's so he can walk her dog for a few minutes.  The dog is very hyper and I won't go near him now, although I have in the past.  I forget what breed he is, but he looks like a setter and has grey and black wavy fur.  He really is pretty, but also pretty wild!

I won't know many at the funeral, just a few family members so we might or might not stay afterward.  I will want to see my friend's daughter and sister.  Her brother was a good friend of Norm's, but he died many years ago.  There are only two of us still living who lived in our old neighborhood - out of 14 kids.

Marilyne

Mary Ann - Sorry about the passing of your friend.  We have attended two funerals this month, and will go to another one on Saturday.  It will be for my husband's cousin Jim. In July there will be a memorial service for the daughter of my long time friend.  She was only 57, and died of pancreatic cancer.

Larry - An earthquake!! :o  Oh my, that should be happening in my part of the country, not yours!  We haven't had one in a long time, (knocking on wood here), and we are definitely due!

Mary Ann. I am now finding myself the only one left of the 6 friends I had for so many years. although my 2 best ones past at age 50. So many from the last place I worked for 20 years gone. Seems like for past years it was a daily thing in the paper. Me being the eldest of all of them. Just have to think of the early times and not get to sad. This year 3 in England that we wrote or E-M weekly passed. This I really miss. Letter writing I miss also.

It has been in the 90s here now for 3 week. Humidity so bad. I am doing nothing but read. movies, sleep . If I don't go out real early to shop then I have to wait until after 7pm.
Jean. I hope you are not getting any of the stormy weather that is down that Florida, La and Texas  area. I watch in on Tv and looks so cooling. Would stick with the heat though. Our poor farmers are having to plant crops again Corn is pretty well burned and no rain.
They are saying it is first day of Summer today. Feels like we have had it for a long time. Wondering about July and August our hot months.

Part of Texas Family suppose to come up day after July 4th. Grandson was going to rebuild porch but if this heat we can forget it. Good job for next spring. Rather go someplace. SIL wants to go to Mammoth Cave as he has never been.  That sound better to me. I love caving.
JeanneP

Mary Ann

I am surprised too about the earthquake in Larry's area, although we have had some here, just not often.

The funeral is over and I felt a bit more emotion than I expected.  I wanted to see two people - my friend's daughter and sister and I saw them both.  The daughter saw me first when we got into the church and had some pictures for me.  I saw the sister after we were in the fellowship room and I never did find out what happened to her, but she is using a rollator and not getting around good at all.  I think she must have had a stroke; she is nine years younger than I am and my friend was 2 1/2 years younger.  It was a nice funeral.  She was a very busy person and will be greatly missed in many quarters.

When we were ready to leave the refreshments, Tom ordered a couple of Subways for us to pick up before we got home.  When Tom takes me somewhere, he is taking off work, so it makes it more convenient for him to pick up the Subways for us to eat after we get home.  I finished my Subway and I think I may be headed for a nap.

Jeanne, I'm coping with the heat but if it gets too hot, I turn on the air.  Today is wonderful and we are at 75 degrees or so.  I can take a lot of days like that.  It is good that your Texas family will visit soon.

Marilyne, there aren't many of my older friends left; I'm almost the last of the Mohicans as my friends would be the same age as I am and at 93 there aren't many of us left.

Mary Ann - I'm so sorry you've lost your friend. So nice you were able to see her sister and daughter. It's a sad fact of life for us. I graduated high school in a class of 25. 18 of them were girls and we had all known each other most of our lives.. There are now only 9 of us left and my best friend is the one with Alzheimers.  I'll have to go find the three generation pictures of the twins.

Shirleyn - We may be feeling the heat here, but thank goodness we're not in Arizona! I have two cousins near Phoenix. The temp there today was 119. Sorry about the problems with your teeth. That's no fun! Chape has some serious dental surgery the end of this month and he's dreading it.

Joan - I saw Dan's graduation pictures on Facebook. Very nice!

If anyone here lives in the Louisiana/Alabama area, stay safe. That tropical storm is due to hit the area tonight. From what I've seen flooding will be a problem.

I've been nursing a back problem the last few days. Lot of pain and could barely walk at times but I think it's getting better. I did a lot of lifting etc. and should have known better.

My daughter and her family are still traveling. Today they posted pictures of the Arches National Park. They plan to get home on the 25th.

larryhanna

Hi late Friday evening. All is well but want to get up in the morning and work on my new installation of Windows 10 on the new hard drive Scott installed for me this evening. We did get Windows 10 installed on it and it should get the updates installed during the night. So I likely won't post again until Friday.

Beverly, sorry you are having back problems and hope they are temporary.

Mary Ann

Beverly, unless Tom posted the picture I sent him, there is no picture yet either here or on Facebook.  The picture is not very flattering to either Tom or James and I'm debating whether or not I want to post it.  If Tom posts it, it is OK.  I will say the contrast is startling - here are these two big men and these tiny girls.

Things look OK outside right now, but I saw by radar we are expecting rain and possibly a storm.  I have no plans for today so I won't mind.

I'm not awake yet, so I'll go on to the next step.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Good morning Mary Ann.  I'd love to see the latest picture of Eleanor and Johanna.  Let us know if Tom posts it on Facebook.  I can probably see it there, even though I'm not "friends" with Tom.  I've looked at Annie's FB a few times, and have been able to see her pictures.

The weather has been extremely hot here.  Lots of warnings constantly on TV, on all the usual precautions to take to prevent heat exhaustion or worse.  It's supposed to be 103 here today, and even higher in the inland communities.  My older daughter lives in the Central Valley, near Fresno, where it's predicted to be 109 today! :yikes:

wjoan

Mornin all..  Just had breakfast while Minnie Pearl vacumed.    Have a few chores to do today, cooler today not in the 90's at least.  Windows still open here.  :)  Like that.

Larry??  You up and at em yet?

Mary Ann

#5429
Marilyne, unless Tom puts it on Facebook, I am not going to post the picture.  It isn't fair for me to post the pictures of them.  I did not take separate pictures of the girls and next time I see them, I will.

Dot and I went out to lunch today; she had soup and half sandwich and I had salad and half sandwich.  So far I've eaten out every day this week, even twice on Tuesday.  I don't like to eat out so much but it just happened that way.  I hope tomorrow will be different, especially since I have a dentist appointment.

Kendrick is taking things easy because of the heat.  He lies near the register in the living area where he can get some "cool".

Someone is flying a kite at Grand Haven.
