There used to be a pretty lively forum about the weather here.  I wonder what ever happened to our friend who lived in Portugal.  He was a regular on the weather site.

Western NY is covered with a few inches of frozen slush this April morning.   By the way I heard first thing this morning on radio that today is "square root day"....4-4-16 !!

It's a beautiful morning here and supposed to be in the low to mid 80°s all week :).  My kind of weather :)

Rammel, how do we get the weather thingy back under our posts like yours?

In the South East of England  it is partly cloudy.  It is 56F or 13C, with 8 mile per hour winds and 70% humidity.

Still cold here in. Western NY state.   The daffodils look as though they are going to recover from our snow and ice of the past week.

I have just about given up on the storms stopping here. Been cold wet weather for over a week.  Waiting to go to grocery store. Packages need mailing and Laundry needs picking up.  Soon will have to just go out and get wet.
Had my limbs all picked up yesterday from the bad wind 4 days ago. More back down today.

The fallen branches are a continuing job.  Each morning when I go out for the paper I take a detour around the yard for a "pickup" of whatever the wind and trees left.  There is almost always something new. :)

The weather people on the radio tell us that we need the rain we are getting.   It hasn't been heavy but just enough to keep it uncomfortable for getting out in the yard to work.     As my DH says,  "we will just have to get through it, until we get those nice days." :)

Rainy and cold again today.    The rain was pretty fierce during the night with thunder etc., BUT we are lucky to be having just this.    When I see what the other parts of the country are getting, I can't complain.    The flowering trees are continuing on to a beautiful spring show!

JeanneP, I don't put the code in first, but I know Larry Hanna does.  I write my message, highlight the message, then go up to the first line where there is a B for BOLD, then go over to Change Color and go down to Blue.  If your method works for you, for heavens sake, do it that way.  I appreciate the darker colors because they're easier to read.

Not here, Rick - on the Hudson river, 50 miles north of Albany.  We've had the frost and some light snow twice so far, with daytime temperatures staying near or below freezing.  Actually just about the normal late November.   :)

Here in Alabama, we've had a very dry summer.  We finally got a bit of rain yesterday.  We are under drought warnings and I'm only permitted to water my flower beds from 8:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.   Fortunately I have a rain barrel and have about half a barrel left.  I've not been watering my azaleas because I have 36 in my back yard and 20+ in my front.  Hopefully yesterday's rain will help and I'm still hoping for more soon.

It rained quite a bit last night here in Auburn, Alabama.  I haven't been out to check my rain gauge yet, but think I may have received at least an inch.  We've been in drought status all summer and my azaleas are looking pretty sad.  I hope this rain will not be the last in January.

Happy New Year!

Crazy weather.  It was up to 60º then within a day we get just short of a foot of snow.  The following morning (today) we awake to ice. The temp is just at freezing and it has been causing a layer of freezing ice/slush.  Luckily there is still some warmth in the ground so can remove the ice coating.

bubble.  Now will that hour make any difference to you. It doesn't me. I have always gone to bed between 10pm and 11pm and get up 8am or 9am.  it did bother me before I retired a little. I didn't like the darkness in the morning but like it not getting dark before 7pm
I remember growing up in the UK that it would stay light until at least 9 or 10 pm. Never here in Illinois. Maybe to 8pm
We are having 74 deg here today.

Alabama is HOT, HOT, HOT today.  Very high 90's and not a sign of rain.  Early daylight and late dusk.  We have had rain at least once or twice a week in June, though, so grass is green and flowers are doing well.

How's the weather in your neck of the woods?

Been in the 90's here for the last few days but only into the 80's today.  The humidity "hurts". - makes it miserable.
Title: Re: Weather Around the World

Not as hot here for the next 2 days but then back to the90s again. Humidity is what gets so high.  We have not had more than 3 inch of rain since the beginning of June.  They say Illinois never had it so bad in History. Corn way behind but looking O.K.  Don't know about the Soy Beans.

I just don't have good energy in heat like this. Can't stand to stay in the house all the time.  A/C doesn't agree with me. Never did.

Two posts up I was commenting about the heat.  Last night it surprisingly went down to 20º F.  I had to hustle and get some plants in.  Also it reminded me to shut off one of the outside faucets that doesn't have a freeze proof valve.
Spring and Fall seasons should be extended

Good morning from a cold Interior. My temperature reads minus 27 and the weather report says Today's high is minus 11 and our low is minus 12, up from yesterday's high of minus 23. Today was said to be zero, then it was to warm to that on Sunday and now they're saying by Tuesday. Actually fairly typical in the Arctic.

Got my car all cleaned up for the snow fall Wed. Just looked outside and another snow blizzard out there. I had showered and dressed and was ready to go over to Comcast to argue  with them before I paid. Just went ahead and paid on line and will argue next month.  Not in the mood to take care of the car and drive today.

We are having some really COLD weather here in northwest Florida.   It will get down into the middle 20s the next three nights then suppose to warm up.  The neighborman was going to throw away his old rusty metal birdbath, so Larry took it and now it is all new looking in a pretty blue color.  Today it is covered with a layer of ice.

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ:
A friend stopped at a pay-at-the-pump gas station to get gas. Once she filled her gas tank and after paying at the pump and starting to leave, the voice of the attendant inside came over the speaker.. He told her that something happened with her card and that she needed to come inside to pay. The lady was confused because the transaction showed complete and approved. She relayed that to him and was getting ready to leave but the attendant, once again, urged her to come in to pay or there'd be trouble. She proceeded to go inside and started arguing with the attendant about his threat. He told her to calm down and listen carefully:
He said that while she was pumping gas, a guy slipped into the back seat of her car on the other side and the attendant had already called the police.

She became frightened and looked out in time to see her car door open and the guy slip out. The report is that the new gang initiation thing is to bring back a woman and/or her car. One way they are doing this is crawling under women's cars while they're pumping gas or at grocery stores in the nighttime. The other way is slipping into unattended cars and kidnapping the women.

Please pass this on to other women, young and old alike. Be extra careful going to and from your car at night. If at all possible, don't go alone!
This is real!!

The message:

1. ALWAYS lock your car doors, even if you're gone for just a second!

2. Check underneath your car when approaching it for reentry, and check in the back before getting in.

3. Always be aware of your surroundings and of other individuals in your general vicinity, particularly at night!

Send this to everyone so your friends can take precaution.

AND GUYS...YOU TELL ANY WOMEN YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS Thanks.

THIS IS TOO SERIOUS ... DO NOT DELETE PLEASE PASS IT ON!

Thank you, Jeanne, they're always trying something, aren't they?

I can say that when I was driving and pumping gas, I always locked my car.  The only thing that went out of the car with me was my credit card (I did not use my debit card for gas).  It never occurred to me to look under the car, but maybe, my being short allowed me to see there without realizing it.

We're still in the middle of a cold spell, as I'm sure many of you are.  Snow due here some time overnight till tomorrow night.  It will all stick as the ground is frozen.  Many people in the area are having water problems with frozen pipes. The freezing causes the pipes to break. In this area we should all be aware of this but seems many aren't aware.

Keep warm everyone.

Maybe it will make you all feel better to know that here in Israel from North to South we too are in the middle of a cold spell.  It is thunder storming with high winds and last night even hail. Two days of snowing on top of Mount Hermon and warning of floods in the south of Israel.

As Rammel said: keep warm everyone!

It's almost 11:00 a.m. here and the temperature is 32.  I've just been out for my morning walk but fortunately I have nice warm clothing left over from our 6 years in Maine, so was warm except for my face.  We are not expected to get much warmer here today.  Auburn is located in the middle of Alabama, not far from Montgomery.  No snow, though.

It is still very cold here but creeping up a little this afternoon. Be snowing again soon the say and only 6 deg. tonight. Going to stay in for one more day but do have to get my laundary over to the cleaners as it is really piling up. I am running out of Sweat sets. I do need to go out and start my car. Been 3 days. Also get the mail. Usually when we have these bad freezes (Not had them for last 7 years they say). We only seem to get one and then just a normal winter. Hope that's true.
So many sick people still. Seems the Flu shot only working at 43% so both Hospitals  full. Pneumonia mostly.
Horrible thing happened at one of the Nursing Home. A 72 lady with Alzheimer got out of a door left open and not missed for 5 hours. Found dead outside the place. 7 deg. weather  this is the second one now as one in July got outside another one and sat in the Patio in 89 deg weather. Again died. Different Nursing home.
Both families are suing. Thing is none of the family member ever spent much time visiting them.  I volunteered at one a few years ago while my friend was in. I know how it is.  So sad. Families just think to let others take care.

Weather, weather, weather. ----- Anyone getting washed out today?

Earlier around 5pm the sky just went dark. A violent storm came through knocking down trees and wires. Weather map showed a line of bad weather from New England right down to Tenn.  We did have a report of a twister up State a bit but I don't think it has been verified yet - unusual here.  Half hour later it was pretty much gone but Police and Fire Dep'ts still busy cleaning up and making things safe.
About 8:00pm at sunset the whole sky was RED.  Never saw it get that red

No damage here.  Just some small twigs/branches with leaves, and some wayward garbage cans.  But within the City there are trees and wires down, streets blocked and a few houses with trees on their roofs.

Other than that things are as usual here.  Big event  ----- tomorrow is haircut day.  A good excuse to visit a coffee shop with my son and get in some BS.  I'm pretty much held down as a caregiver so any time out is fun time.

How's things on the other side?

We are having temps in the 90's  right now.  I am ok.  Both kidneys are going, but I am still alive and kicking.  LOL

We had an unusually wet, cold, snowy winter and that cold and snow lingered on into April with the first part of May only reaching the low sixties.  :( June finally warmed up into the seventies with temps starting to look good until Sunday when an odd cold system moved in, (Thanks Canada!); and squatted directly overhead. Temps plunged to the fifties with lows in the thirties with scattered snow showers in the mountains and foothills. Altho we're told things should be getting back to normal next week; I don't hold out much hope for this summer.

diglady,
I know you often posted in the Pol area, along with Kelly and Hal. Sadly both of them are not with us any more (for different reasons).  I often would drop in to that discussion but would not post there, for reasons you've probably heard before. If my wife were interested in on-line things she would likely be a poster in politics  :)
Anyway - poke around the available discussions and hopefully you'll find some of interest.   Surely there are some good ones.

Rammel, Kelly is doing well.  He and companion are living together now and she is a good friend and helper to him.  We are e-mail pals and talk online several times a week.

The good-ole weather people are predicting 101º tomorrow (actually later today).  Looks like a stay in and a/c. I just don't get along with any level of heat (hot) any more.

Will that affect 4th of July celebration you think?
In Canada  for their 1st of July celebration the Environment Canada has issued an extreme weather alert.

We just finished having a dandy thunderstorm along with pounding rain. We did need the rain though.
I know I won't be going to any Canada day celebrations in this heat. Like Rammel don't do heat well. This heat is to keep up for about 5 more days.

We will probably stay in on the 4th.  Too hot for us but there will be plenty of young families enjoying the festivities.  We will be content to watch the fireworks on TV.

From CNN

"About 250 million people -- 77% of the continental US population -- face below-freezing temperatures this week. But this isn't just a typical January cold snap. These are some of the coldest temperatures we've seen in a generation, caused by the polar vortex paying us a visit. If you're 25 or younger, "you've never felt this cold before," CNN meteorologist Tom Sater said. In the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes, temps will plunge to 20-40 degrees below zero. Wind chills will be even worse: 35-60 below (here's how to protect yourself,  https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/28/weather/wind-chill-explainer-wxc-trnd/index.html?utm_source=CNN+Five+Things&utm_campaign=4070111835-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_29_08_17&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_6da287d761-4070111835-87090417). There will be blizzard conditions in some places, too. Snow is even forecast for Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. More than 3,400 flights have been canceled. The weather has already killed two people, in Minnesota and Illinois."

I probably didn't realize this cold is a record-setting cold.  I just hope that peoples' furnaces hold up.  I do recall going to work in -20 degree weather.  Fortunately, one of my co-workers picked up my neighbor and me so we did not have to stand on the corner waiting for the bus.

Looking at the closures on TV, Ottawa County MI was not the only nearby county to have a lot of closures - so did Kent County (where I live) - and actually all the counties that were mentioned.  The closures are from this afternoon through Wednesday and I have an idea tomorrow will see additional closures.

Jackie, I'm happy to report that our section of the US is bright and sunny.  When I rolled  out of bed about 8 am, our temperature was 13F degrees and is now around 35 degrees.  I'll take it.  We are not windy today but often do have winds.  Hang on to your hats!

All winter long we complain about the cold and snow. Then suddenly we have a heat problem. After tonight we are not predicted to go below 70 for a week. We've been up to 90 every day lately. We used to see this as August weather. I say it's the windmills (bird whackers) making this happen.

Bring back Spring and Fall.

In other words, it's fewer birds that are causing the problem?  Just kidding!

Well. ---- I guess we are the only ones having weather (I know that's not true).  It's been around 30º for a couple of days but it has been leaving frozen rain/sleet on everything. My boxwood bushes in front are now one solid ice bush. Icicles hanging from wires have caused many down wires locally. Sunday should get us above freezing.  Extra feeding for our local wildlife.

Rick, we've been fortunate in that we haven't had a lot of snow.  We don't have a lot of ice, maybe except in March when we have had some doozys.  I like it best when I don't have to wear boots, however, I know our day will come.  It is 18 degrees now.

We are having what we consider cold weather. 😊  it got down to 30 degrees during the night.  Right now it is 1:40 central time and the temp is 57 degrees.  Next week is supposed to be warm in the high 60s.  Christmas Day is supposed to be around 70 degrees.

Jean, we started out this morning at 16-18 degrees and at 4 pm it is 33 degrees.  I think by Christmas Day we will be in the low 40s.  I know 30 degrees is very low for you but I remember a friend who wintered near Orlando would tell about covering his plants occasionally.

Still below freezing here and the ice is still on everything. The sun did melt some of it but then we got a dusting of snow. Still Sunday for 32°+

Rammel, it was 65 here this afternoon.  Felt great!!!  I know all about those cold wintry days.  Had plenty of them when we lived in Maryland, and funny thing, I didn't really mind it too much.  We moved to Florida because my husband (an Ohio boy) said he was sick of snow and cold.

Mary Ann, it is supposed to get to 70degrees here on Christmas Day.  I'll think of all you northerners up there in the cold.  But as long as there is heat, you won't mind, will you.  I do miss seeing the snow falling and it looks so beautiful when it is new and white.

Jean, I really don't care what the temperature is on Christmas Day because I'll be inside where it should be cozy and warm.  I don't even want a fireplace.  Of course, I don't want a power outage, either.

We have gone from amber warning alert to red warning alert for my area...

Red warning of extreme heat

Starts: 00:00 BST on Mon 18 JulyEnds: 23:59 BST on Tue 19 July
An exceptional hot spell on Monday and Tuesday leading to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure.

- Population-wide adverse health effects experienced, not limited to those most vulnerable to extreme heat, leading to serious illness or danger to life. Government advice is that 999 services should be used in emergencies only; seek advice from 111 if you need non-emergency health advice.
- Substantial changes in working practices and daily routines will be required
- High risk of failure of heat-sensitive systems and equipment, potentially leading to localised loss of power and other essential services, such as water or mobile phone services
- Significantly more people visiting coastal areas, lakes and rivers, leading to an increased risk of water safety incidents
- Delays on roads and road closures, along with delays and cancellations to rail and air travel, with significant welfare issues for those who experience even moderate delays

Jackie, we had 103 today from one weather report, but each reporter likes to believe what their corner of the city shows!  Hot & like you, I don't handle heat, had my first heat stroke at 18 so try to stay in air conditioning & fear power outages. Much rather layer on winter coats than battle the heat.

One thing that I learned before the houses had AC was to freeze blocks of ice (in loaf pans or something large) put the ice in a flatter pan that is deep enough to hold the water as it melts & sit it in front of the fan.  The other tip is if you start feeling sick at your stomach, run cold water in the bath tub & chill your feet.... works for me.

Hi, Rick! Warm up your way?  Our 10 day forecast shows NO cool down at all so I'm watering all I can (well water) but everything has that wilted look. Looks like mid to late August with brown grass & sad trees. My oldest grandson (45) tested positive for Covid a 3rd time... had all the vacs & boosted... Big surge with the latest version.

Take care. Stay out of the sun.

Shirley...
...i will heed your advice and tips, as you know this is not our usual for UK and most dont have nor ever need a/c cooling just electric floor or desk-top fans...They are saying this will be our first ever of reaching this top figure...this will be our record...Yes, power outages is a concern...Yesterday i took in an order for an electric 12 speed fan, a next day delivery, ( glad i have it ) and today it is showing out of stock...

Shirley - It has been hot around here too. But I don't think as bad as it has been in other parts of the country (and world). We've been hovering around upper 80s to lower 90s. It has NOT been dropping at night, with temps staying above 70.  Like you, I don't do heat. A/C has been running continually. I don't see much change showing on our local weather predictions.  Should be a nice electric bill this Month.
