Victoria Holt, pseudonym of Eleanor Alice Hibbert (née Burford), was a popular writer of Gothic romances.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't use a pseudonym, but this is the only name I knew her by. It turns out that Hibbert wrote a total of 191 novels under seven different pseudonyms plus her maiden name, Eleanor Burford. Interestingly, she passed away at the age of 86 during a Mediterranean cruise and was buried at sea.
