Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Fun to watch, Beryl.  A lot like the catbirds that nested in my honeysuckle a couple of years ago.   :)

Being somewhat confined of late, the back deck seems to be my home. Not too much to get excited about, but a few new friends seem to be coming by in a more frequent fashion. This Red Billied Woodpecker seems to have moved into the area. Saw him a few times last Summer and was in hopes he would return. Not the best photo in the world, but will have to do for now. Some really nice photos in this thread. :) THANKS to all

Marilyne

J R Weems - Welcome to Seniors and Friends! :) Your photo of the Woodpecker is beautiful!  Please return often, and visit some of our other discussions.

PatH2

Great photo, J R Weems.  It shows the details of plumage perfectly.  I've always wondered why they're called red-BELLIED woodpeckers when the reddist part is the HEAD.

J R WEEMS

Pat, unsure of the answer to this one as I have often wondered the same thing. In the sunlight the head has a bit of orange / red look to it as well. Still good to see. Had a Pileated woodpecker stop by for a moment the other day but was in the house. I doubt I would of seen him from the back porch because of the trees. Sure wish he would move in. :)

J R WEEMS

With wildlife sometimes you get what you get. This Scaled Quail was doing his best to hide, but I sort of got him anyway. :)
Found only in the Southwest of the USA this was another first for me. :)

FlaJean

Good capture.  I like the framing also.

Chocky

Nice capture. Well done

Today two birds were having a tender conversation on the tree in front of my  window.   I have never seen or heard anything like it.  I bet they are "tourists" stopping on the way of migration.
The pictures are not too good, too many branches on the arocaria, but maybe someone can help me identify them?
The size is about like a very small pigeon.

Have had a look on the net but can't find a bird like it.

If you can get a better shot of it . It could help  :)

Mary Ann

I thought they looked much like our starlings, but I'm not sure starlings are the size of a small pigeon, however, they're pretty good sized.

I am not familiar with the birds. I also didn't realize we had starlings in Alaska. But, apparently, with climate change they are moving north. They are in Juneau and there is a small population in Anchorage. The state is trying to get rid of them as they are a threat to some of our native birds.
