Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

2024-05-02, 00:07:54
Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

2024-05-01, 23:57:58
Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

JeanneP: I am trying to get into the Archives of the Recipes that where moved over from Senior net few years ago, Can't find them

Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Oldiesmann: The chat can be accessed from the menu but I don't kow how often anyone is in there

Google account, I think you have one when you take an email address

Maybe I do... but never used anything except the mail. I seldom even use goggle.

JeanneP

Google Acct.  That is their Home Page.  Pretty good for a lot of things.

I have a Google account but rarely glance at it. I rarely glance at my Yahoo account either and just use each one's email.

Screen shot of just some of what is on Google, and like JeanneP I do not log in. I use "image" and it never fails to provide photos of people, pets, decorating etc.   When you click the small boxes to the right of Images the dropdown opens.  I Like Google Maps, and view all over the globe.  In many places they have street view and you can almost walk down the street.  I view their news, use the link to YouTube but seldom use the remainder.  Do not use their mail program, still with Windows Live Mail and Comcast.

quite a selection.  I had never seen that menu before. Thanks for the info Jack.

I have three emails and a fourth for ones that are probably going to spam me. I have Yahoo for business, Gmail for friends, recipes, and PSP. I use Outlook for computer antivirus information and emails as well as for Amazon and the 3 or 4 daily emails alerting me to free books available or a favorite author or series new release.

If Yahoo mail is discontinued, I will need another email for business or official purposes. I work better with my info so clearly defined.

The translator is also interesting, but not sure about this one.

Translation leaves much to be desired.   I tried for PaintShop with Portuguese and it looks like they are doing guess work   :uglystupid2:

angelface555

I use Grammarly which is spelling plus editing if you wish. There is also a premium but since I use the free portion, I am unaware of costs. Grammarly is perfect for my needs.

I use Google page translation, mainly for tuts.

I have Hotmail, but is hasn't been working well, so I'm mostly using Yahoo--I have lots of my e-mail addresses in Yahoo.  So I guess I need to make a copy of them so that when they stop, I'll be able to e-mail my friends and family.

Sue

P.S.  Do you know when Yahoo is closing?  they haven't sent me a notification.

wjoan

I have had Gmail for years but have never seen that screen that Jack showed.

jackwv

wjoan I do not use gmail but do use Google.  You may not see it when you go to mail, but check this link to google. In the upper right corner.

jane

I use google drive as a storage space for a book log I've kept for years.

I also used it for photos I shared with two other nieces...who live in IL and MN...when we were planning a birthday party for my husband last year.  I could upload what I had, each of them could contribute what they had, and the one in IL could then make a slide show for the party.  The three of us could share that file.  I guess they do this all the time in business...when people are working from a number of different locations and yet need to share some information.  I wouldn't put anything that was personal and "sensitive"...i.e., financial, etc. on any "cloud space," but for sharing photos and having the three of us have the same access was perfect.

Joan, what Jack showed is on the Google home page - and comes up when you hover the cursor over the grid of small black squares in the upper right-hand corner of the page.  It's just the menu of what's available.

Sue.  Nothing has been said about Yahoo closing out the E-M system.  I use it just if I don't want to give out my main E-M address.
I think that they are going to be going into other types of things.  They did changed the E-M about 2 months ago in order for it to be better.  Did you notice it?

In a few months, Yahoo will cease to exist.  The bits and pieces sold off to its competitors. It will depend on what company absorbs the yahoo email and if it keeps the same name or if it is changed to something else.

Right now Yahoo Inc.  is arguing with the bankruptcy judge on some of his requirements so it will be a drawn out process and no need to do anything with your email as yet.

I came in to ask questions... didn't think I needed to make a list but y'all have brought up some news that washed away what I was thinking.  I've used Yahoo mail from the first week I used a computer, have 2 accounts, one for family & other for SeniorNet, now Senior & Friends & the "Steps" with Yahoo.  Do you think everything saved in the accounts will be wiped out?  Would hate to lose addresses but also saved family e-mails with photos.  Sad news.  I do have a g-mail account & one with my provider (Cox) but never thought either as photo friendly as Yahoo.

Oh, one question was how to dump the cache on Windows 7 using Google Chrome & other was how to dump cache on Vista using Google Chrome... I will copy any & all advice & save.  I used to dump cache on IE regularly... my son uses Firefox so hesitate asking him... he disapproves of Chrome & I didn't like Firefox.

I also use Google maps & am impressed with how often they update their street maps.  We always had an extra car/pickup or RV in the driveway & they updated our street in the last year.

Thanks for any & all advice.

JeanneP

I could be wrong but I thought that everything you did like photo and copies of E-M remained on your computer not on your E-M acct.
But if you want to make sure.  Spend (can get now for around$39  a external Hard drive or use floppies. Can get lots on them.  Some as much as the older computers had on a hard drive.  Should do that anyway as now, if you computer goes wrong then you do loose everything. I don't save a whole lot on mine.  Just print out a list of all my E-M addresses or things like that.
Only lost one  computer and lightning did that.

JeanneP

Photos received in emails were always viewed and if I wanted them saved them at that time.  I also back up all my photos on and external hard drive and also have most on dvds.   Shirley I would not wait for email problems but go back to saved emails and copy the photos.

Shirley

Thanks, JeanneP.... I do have an external hard drive but lots of time I don't download photos the kids or my brother send, leave them on the Yahoo mail & so far they have stayed there even when I change computers.  I bought one external hard drive & copied everything but didn't know how to read what it copied.  My son tried to show me...  I'm not sure what I did wrong when copying but it was too much trouble trying to pick out what I wanted.  Told him he could have it, was a good one, Toshiba 1 T... I think I paid $70 on sale for it...  I gave it to him.

Have another that my husband had copied everything from his computer & still enough space to copy all from my last one.  Right now the only thing I don't have copied is the Yahoo mail that I never downloaded.  I did try to copy the mail from my brother that included a lot of genealogy... but could not get a whole file to copy to read individually.  I don't have the patience & don't know the right terms.  Do hate to see Yahoo mail go, hope someone picks it up.  If we hear it is going to shut down I can go through the Genealogy folder & copy each letter to a new folder & then copy that folder to a thumb drive or the external.  Maybe I can find it then.

Right now it's time to feed cats & get busy, house painters coming tomorrow.

Thanks, Jack, I do need to clone me for this week.  Painters for the whole outside which means I have to clean storm windows that are floor to ceiling in most rooms when they take them off to paint (that is 4 layers of windows for each window), have a dinner to go to next week end that is for the college Engineers/seniors & my daughter is getting a special award at the banquet. I volunteered to have the whole clan over for Sunday after church... for Mother's Day, a birthday for #2 son & going to save the graduation party for the next week end.  In the mean time, besides painters, I have a pair of dress slacks that are not comfy around the middle for sitting several hours, so plan to alter them (3 closets full of clothes but got to have THAT pair).  Got the menu planned but will take a trip to the store for supplies (15 people at least) & will have to clean house...

Just some thoughts ---

If you use an on-board mail program like Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, your received e-mails should be on your computer - unless you deleted them. Email on Fios (Verizon), AT&T, and other Internet providers are on those Internet sites, subject to their rules on saving e-mails. Sites like Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, and the like, are similar to Fios (Verizon), AT&T, and other Internet providers.

I have three external hard drives that are 3T each. One is a copy of everything on my computer, one is a copy of all my PSP and Photos and one is a copy of all my business and important papers. The main thing is to never ever leave them attached to the computer when you're finished as if there is malware, they will get on those attached drives as well. I always put them in a drawer when finished copying new information.

I have three accounts and even though they "say" they will delete after thirty days, they don't. When I am finished with the inbox and delivering any emails to an appropriate folder, I always delete any trash or spam. I also have not only the email's spam or antivirus, but I also use a function of System Mechanic  that checks my email as well.

I also use Amazon Cloud, Dropbox and Microsoft's one drive as extra insurance with some information on those server based saves to back up my own externals. Better safe than sorry even if it is a bit of overkill, but I've3 been in the position before to lose everything.

angelface555

I had a strange issue last night. I suddenly lost access to my start menu on W10. It said access is restricted in so many words. I went to settings and discovered a way to click on the icon and have the start menu items and shut off or restart pop up on my desktop but I would like my original start menu settings returned!

I ran a malware scan, 4 hours for a thorough search, using Hitman Pro and System Mechanic and other than basic cookies, all showed clear.

How do I start my own topic and my own photo album on this site?  I don't get any tabs that give me that opportunity.  I read the "rules" etc but I don't get the "start new topic" etc tab.

so_P_bubble

Only a Global Moderator or an Administrator can do that.  You have to ask them to open the discussion you would like. Send a PM to Phyllis or Jane for example.

What topic would you like to have opened?  For a photo album, click on Gallery at the top of the page and you can open an album from there by simply clicking on "Pets and Kids" (which is really just a generic general title) and uploading a photo.  Then there will be "my images" to click on which will be your album.
