Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Oldiesmann: The chat can be accessed from the menu but I don't kow how often anyone is in there

Being you are at the latest version and didn't have to do anything to get there, you are being updated automatically.

Now I use MS Security Essential only. Does it Auto every Sunday. Thing is I have it on Full Scan. Will say, takes a long time.  Think will change it to doing just the fast one every week and Full about once a month.

I am using Windows Defender on Windows 10.   It does a quick scan daily.  Has picked up several items and quarantined, then I remove.   Have run Malwarebytes several times but it has not picked anything up, so hope Defender is doing the job.   I am careful with sites I visit and avoid the popups.

angelface555

My System Mechanic and Hitman Pro, 2nd. opinion software is set to run continuously in the background although I do a weekly or bimonthly scan as well with both. They both will do popups if they find something that is over the limits I've set.

As long as you are comfortable and rely on your software to do it's job then you are good to go.

HAL, you helped with Thunderbird before and hope you have an answer for me now.  The WORD JUNK only comes up when Thunderbird thinks it is junk;  Is there some magic place I can click when all this other junk comes to my email?

Right click on it then click "Mark As Junk".    Assuming you have this option turned on.

More to come ---- when I go on my Win-7 laptop. I believe there is an option to set.

Take care of this before you get too old  :2funny:

Hi Rick & all.  I have just purchased a new computer (Dell) with Windows 10.  I have a five year old with Windows 7.  Sigh!  One big question about my Quicken.  I have put my info on a stick.  I do not have a Quicken on the new computer.  I have a disc from 2008 and one from 2018, whhichh I presume is what I used on thhe old computer.  Whhen I try to run it, it asks for my password, but it will not accept it.  I am frustrated.  So this afternoon I went to othher things - transferring from old to new.  How would one transffer bookmaarks?  Using the stick, whichh I can't seem to do?  Or is thhere another way.  Pardon the spelling mistakes, but that is why I got a new computer - couldnt seem to fix.

Shirley,

I think you would more likely get some help on the Win-10 discussion at
http://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?topic=21.90

I use Quicken but do not have Win-10 yet so am not of much help.

I might be able to help get your info on to a "stick".
Contacting Quicken might be a good path. They might be a bit difficult to reach but I'd bet there are loads of people with Win-10 update problems.

Shirleyn you did not do an update but a new computer.  With an update I retained all the programs I had on my seven.   Agree with Rick.  Quicken would be your best choice to have them reset the password for your disc.

jane

Shirleyn..also check and make sure your old Quicken will work with Win 10; I have Quicken 2010 and was told nothing but their latest... 2016 ...will work on Win 10.

If your old computer will still allow you to use your Q, you may need to keep it for that until you can find out if the old versions will load on W 10.

shirleyn

Okay, thanks all.  I had been thinking about getting in touch with Quicken.  I will try.

Daughter sent me a link with loads of silly stories about trouble with computers.   This was my favorite.

An elderly woman called, furious.

Tech Support: “How can I help you ma’am?”
Customer: “You had better help me!”
Tech Support: “That’s why they pay me!”
Customer: “Don’t get smart with me!”
Tech Support: “Of course, ma’am, how can I help you?”
Customer: “Well, I’ve been waiting for quite some time!”
Tech Support: “Yes ma’am, our current wait is about twenty minutes. It usually isn’t that bad.”
Customer: (yelling) “Twenty minutes! I’ve been waiting three days!”
Tech Support: “You’ve defied sleep and other bodily functions for a full 72 hours?”
Isn’t it wonderful when they get vague? Turns out she clicked on the “Help” button in Word or something three days prior and was waiting for us to call her…despite the fact that her computer had no modem and was not near a telephone line.

When optical mices came about I got away from the old ball mouse. They were forever getting dust and fuzz in on the rollers and making the cursor jump all over. It's been a loooong time since I had a mouse problem. Couple of days ago I noticed when I clicked on an email to see it's preview, it would open the email. I discovered the left button was single, double triple clicking when I tapped it.
Today was mouse surgery day. Surprise - A bunch of dirt, fuzz, finger oiles, etc inside. Blew it out concentrating on the little switches in there and now the old mouse is living a new life.

Optical?  How did you get inside?  I don't see any screws on mine.

Only opening I find is the battery compartment.

I have a Gateway, wired optical mouse.   Screws on the bottom but doubt I will remove (chicken)  With the old ball type mouse I would routinely clean it.

RAMMEL

Mine is a Logitech and has a screw on the bottom at the end opposite the wire. It needs a small Phillips screw driver. All the parts are fairly secured. Nothing to fall out leaving you wondering "where did that come from".
The scroll wheel has slots in it like a ball mouse does, and that had dust/fuzz on it too.  Easy enough job. Would not hesitate doing it again.

Mine is a wireless Logitech optical.     Maybe that's why no screws.

How about hidden under the batteries, or somewhere in the battery "box".?

I hate those snap together things.

My Logitech wireless with unifier has no  screws anywhere.
It stopped working completely two weeks ago.
I went  back to the local supplier and he changed it together with the wireless k/b for free, it was still under guarantee.  I have no idea what the problem was.  Neither did the man at the store.

Posted in Windows 10 about screen shots and snipping tool, that you may find helpful.

I have acquired a rather strange "happening" on my computer.  When I log out/shut down at night, all the icons on my Desktop are in the order I have placed them.  When I log in next morning, the icons are all scrambled up, in no order at all, and I don't know how they got that way.   I put them back in the order I like them, and overnight, same thing happens.  What is going on?
