Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Tomereader1,   are you addressing icons/shortcuts on desktop, or tiles on start screen.
Let us know what operating system you are using.  Someone may have the answer, I can only try to look it up.  It is probably a setting, but not sure where to look and change.

Spotted this
http://www.winability.com/how-to-i-stop-windows-from-rearranging-my-desktop-icons/

Tomereader1

Using Windows7.  And these are Icon/Shortcuts on Desktop.

Tomereader1

I probably can see where this might happen.  I play a solitaire game before I shut down, and its resolution is rather small.  I bet this is the problem.

Tomereader1

Okay, I did a "test".  I shut down the computer, without playing the Solitaire game.  When I opened up again, the icons were all in the correct places.

Tomereader great now wonder if you exit solitaire and go to another site, then shut down, if the icons are ok.   The article did mention checking the solitaire program to see if there is a setting.   You might also check another solitaire program.  On windows 10 I use their app, Simple Solitaire, and no problems.

RAMMEL

I believe (but not sure) that changing screen resolution will cause "scrambling" of the desktop items.  It lines them up all nicely --- for that resolution.  :(

I hate it when that happens.

No "settings" on that particular Solitaire game.  It is Pyramid Solitaire, and it is addicting.
You add the value of cards until you clear the Pyramid.  Anything adding up to 13.  It's fun and I just have to play it!  I will try going to another site, after I shut down Pyramid.

It is possible that there is a program conflict that is causing your condition.

As Jack said "if you exit solitaire and go to another site, then shut down, are the icons are ok."

My problem is this: I upgraded my desktop to W-10 and for the most part everything works ok except for my WordPerfect programme.
I can open the programme, I can access my list of files, but when I try to open any file my computer locks up. I even left it on all night and it was still locked up in the morning.  I then tried to uninstall the WordPerfect programme, but no success.  Half way through the process a message appeared: ERROR: INVALID DRIVE J:\  OK I don't have a drive "J".  I let it run to the end and got the message that the installation was not complete and had encountered a Fatal Error
So I can't run it and I can't uninstall it;  any suggestions?

Don I do not have WordPerfect.  Did a quick look around and question of incompatibility comes up.  Think I would contact WordPerfect but here is an interesting thread.

http://www.wpuniverse.com/vb/showthread.php?37161-WordPerfect-X6-and-Windows-10

Have spent over an hour on my Windows 10 not picking up photos from my iPhone.   It has for months and now suddenly  a problem.  Tough keeping up.

JeanneP

Now does Windows 10 still have the MS Word pad on it.  I have used it more than the MS Office that has always been on my computers. I think I bought that. Also use to use a Free MS word program that Is still on this computer. LibreOfficeWriter it is called.

Notepad, Wordpad, and Sticky Notes, as well as Shape Collector and Snipping Tool, are listed under standard Windows accessories with W10.

Don, for several years on seven and months on 10 I just plug into a usb port (have tried all 4 and different wire)  The phone asks if I trust the computer, I press yes and the computer comes up with auto play and I am able to transfer the new photos.   I tried  my camera that also plugs in the usb (I never remove the card to insert but of course no card in the phone).   I checked drivers and appears I am up to date.  Have read and followed what I think to be the correct settings on autoplay, but even in devices the phone does not show up.    Would like to solve, but if not will have to limit use of the camera on the phone.  If I catch several I want I can email to myself and open on the computer.

I have kept trying and did an adjustment on phone going to settings  - general - reset - and - reset network settings.   Not consistant but it has worked several times.  Not a big deal  -------- Computers!!  (or iphones)

I'm thinking I need to change my password on Facebook on my computer...forgot how...can someone tell me....also when I change it on computer..will it automatic chane on my iPad...or do I have to change it there too...I guess this is a dumb blonde question...but thanks if you can help. CC

angelface555

Cotton Candy, I am no longer on Facebook, but there should be a place on the upper right corner that you may click for changing your password or finding other options available on Facebook.

Your computer is separate from your iPad so you may need to change both passwords separately. Unless there is a link between the two devices, computer, and iPad, I do not believe you need to change both.

I change all my passwords every three months just because and most of my phones, emails, and business accounts have a two step system. They send a six-digit code to my phone when I change a password, and I enter the new code which then allows me to change my password. On delicate accounts, I use the two step system each time I open the account, skipping the need for a regular password.

Further to my issues surrounding WordPerfect, I contacted the manufacturer and was advised that my version is not compatible with Windows 10 and I have to buy an upgrade.  I guess the moral of the story is not to upgrade before determining whether or not your existing programmes are compatible.

Wasn't Windows-10 supposed to do that?  :tickedoff:

I wasn;t aware of that, but I wish they had. So I got a free W-10 and had to pay $150 for a WordPerfect upgrade >:(

jackwv

WordPerfect should have been able to offer a patch, and not charge  for an upgrade.

Jack this is the written response to my query:
"I do apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused you. However, the product you are inquiring about is no longer supported and is now considered as obsolete software. The latest version now is WordPerfect Office X8 (Compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10). Also, WordPerfect Office X4 is not compatible with Windows 10 and there were no updates or patches released to make this program work on this platform since this version is obsolete and the engineers are now focused on the latest version."

angelface555

Don, I have gotten angry several times when what I have used faithfully for years, without incidence, suddenly becomes obsolete for some reason. This has happened to me from Vista on up and the photography programs such as Corel and Photoshop are the worst in my opinion. What I did for many years was use a free office program, there are several good ones, just go to a "geek" site, not the manufacturers and look for their reviews.

I do have Word on my W10, the 64-bit system without incidence, but it must be another program. There is also the option  of a monthly subscription to Microsoft Office with all its programs. Photoshop has also gone that subscription route and this way you receive all the latest updates and fixes.

jackwv

Don thanks.  Microsoft is often deservedly the villain, but felt WordPerfect did not have clean hands.

JeanneP

Now I still have not gone into W10. Will use W7 until I go to a new computer. Now I remember buying MS office a couple of times.Always bought my own along with a new MS System when it came out. ( SIL makes my computers).
Now I have no use for Microsoft Office. Just don't use it enough. Word pad or the Free one I put on this computer. "Libre office Writer). Both are enough.
Now Can't the Free ones still be installed on W10?.
JeanneP

so_P_bubble

Sure, Open office can work on W10 and free of course.

JeanneP

Bubble. Now the one I always bought was
Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Product Keycard License

Digital Download
$ 197.99
It had the Word, Excel and Power Point.

This is what it cost right now. Think I have a couple of old one. Going back a few years. You got a license number with it.
JeanneP

angelface555

Jeanne, I receive all that for three computers and all externsions and up dates for 9.99 a month. I used to use, Open office and then Libre Office program. A couple of months back, I bit the bullet and went on the subscriber program.

RAMMEL

"Open Office" is free and seems to do all the things MS Office will do.  May require a bit of re-learning but I had no problem figuring it out.  I put "Open Office" on the puter I put together.

Rick, LibreOffice is just as good or similar as Open Office and I would recommend either.
