Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Oldiesmann: The chat can be accessed from the menu but I don't kow how often anyone is in there

Jeanne Lee will have to change it for you.  Email her, Jeanne.

Tomereader, my son has Yahoo on his Fire reader and hasn't had any problems at all.  We have Yahoo on both our desktop and laptop, email addresses and never had a problem with them either.  We will both continue to use Yahoo until they tell us they are shutting down.  Then we will probably go to our internet provider (att.net).  Several years ago I had a major problem with Google and Gmail and now avoid them like the plague.

Jane.  I sent a E-M to Jeanne.  She must be busy.  Now is she the only one that can take that e-m address out of my profile.  Sure will not let me do it.
JeanneP

wjoan

Not yet.  Can't see well enough to do it myself and son has to do most of this stuff I used to do now.  Frustrating, but I need to be patient.  Thanks.

jane

JeanneP....Jeanne Lee is unavailable for a few days, at least, so it may be a bit before she can get back to you.

JeanneP

Jane. Now taking the one that is in there now OFF is all I want.  I am not interesting in putting a new one in until I get the mess I am having with EMailing.  Giving it a rest for a couple days.
Gotten so cold here so fast. However they are saying back up over the weekend to 80
I just went and got my Flu Shot. Asked about the one for Pneumonia they same to be pushing bit told me unless you know when you took the first one after the age of 65. If you got one then don't take this new one.  Another thing I don't know if they know what they are doing. Don't know when I took mine but know after 65. Saying you can't mix them. So I will forget about the new one.
JeanneP

Tomereader1

My doctor knows when I got my pneumonia shot originally, and she has recommended (last week) that I be sure and get the Prevnar now.  There will also be other pneumonia shots to be introduced in a year or so, covering more strains of pneumoccocal pneumonia.  I got my flu shot today, as well as the Prevnar 13.  She said there was no harm in getting them both at the same time.  Biggest thing is, I get mine at the pharmacy, and one pharmacy didn't have the Prevnar, so had to go to the CVS to get it.  I get all my flu shots at one or the other as they are free for us Medicare people.

jane

Jeanne....I think you need to have a valid email here.  It can be changed again, if you get another one.

MaryTX

When I had my first pneumonia shot in 1995, they were supposed to give you lifetime protection.  In 2005, my doctor said they were only good for 10 years so gave me another one.  By 2013, "they" decided they were only good for 5 years so he gave me another one.

The "new" pneumonia shot Prevnar 13 covers 13 different strains of pneumonia that the first shot didn't cover. My pulmonologist was giving it to all his patients when it came out in 2013.

I have COPD and have been hospitalized three times with pneumonia before the shots came out and it's not pleasant.

I had my first and only flu shot in 2005. I had never had the flu but all my friends were telling me to get one. I did and within 24 hours had a terrible, fourteen-day, feverish  case of the flu. First time in my life that I have had chills running up and down my arms and  legs. I decided after that to skip the flu shots and have never had a case of flu since!

so_P_bubble

Naturally immune, Patricia, so don't add artificial immunization   ;D!

JeanneP

I just skipped the Prevanor 13 shot when I got my flu shot yesterday. No one seemed to know who should take it. They knew after 65 but saying not to take if you have had the Pn. shot  in the last 10 years.  No way I can fine or think of when I got mine. (Years go so fast). Doubt it is past the 10 years.  I try to stay away from place where can get flu or going to hospitals etc in the winter time. Careful of wiping carts in stores etc and live alone.  So just take my chances.
JeanneP

Tomereader1

Bubble, how does one become "naturally immune" to flu? That's an interesting statement.

angelface555

I think Bubble was just reacting to my statement about my one and only flu brought on by my one and only flu shot. Altho I am rarely sick, but when I am, I tend to retreat and baby myself out of it.

Marilyne

I've always been somwhat of a skeptic , when it comes to the necessity of a once a year flu shot.  I wonder why all other immunizations last for years, or for a lifetime, but flu shots only last one year?  I understand that there are always new strains every year, but do we have to get the entire series every time, plus one or two new ones? Do other countries, besides the US, recommend the shot ever year?  Could it be just another moneymaker for Big Pharma?

apparently some people have "protection" from birth to certain illness.
For example in Africa they have found that there are people immune to malaria caused by the anopheles mosquito.  Researchers now are studying their blood and DNA, hoping that it could help develop a cure or vaccine.

Marilyn, I too get that shot every year, as does everyone here in Israel.
Pneumonia once a 10 year.

angelface555

I know I am that way with sickness, not allergies or major issues however.

About bugs, they don't like me either. I can be out walking in the woods in the early spring when everyone around me is covered in clouds of mosquitos and tiny mites and I will have none around me or any bites. I am the same way with bees and wasps, but perhaps that is because I am calm around them so they do not get agitated.

Marilyne

bubble - I also get the shot every year, in spite of my skepticism! LOL!  I just can't help wondering if it's really ineffective after one year??

Pleased we have no computer problems.

Now I will join the health discussion with this report. ;) ;)
Had dexa bone scan August 16, 2016.   They called, said minor and no need to take any medication.  3 years ago after first scan had me take Fosamax and quit would not take again if they suggested.

Colonoscopy Jan 2002  have refused to get another.
Tetanus shot 8/8/2013
Shingles 8/8/2013
Flu Aug 30 2016 said for 3 years.
Pneu. PVC13 8/24/15 doctor said no need for any more

Marilyne

Jack - I've declined to ever have the dexa-scan.  I know I must have osteoporosis . . . not only my age, but I'm small boned and too thin.  I will never take the Fosamax or others like it, so I don't see the point in having the test, when there is nothing they can do about my problem.

My doc told me they don't recommend a colonoscopy after age 80, (unless there is an obvious problem), so I'm happy to have said Goodbye to that one as well.  I had a case of shingles about 15 years ago, so I haven't had the shingles vaccine . . . however, I've read that you can get shingles more than once, so I had better get that shot!

Mary Ann

I have never taken Fosamax but I do take 1000 mg of calcium every day.  I've taken various amounts (up to 1500 units) since 1983 when I broke my leg.  I am fortunate that I did not break anything when I fell in Indy last month and I have credited my taking calcium.  I may be wrong, but I know there is much damage I could have done - and didn't!

As for my computer, I wish I could give it calcium to see if it would cure some of its problems!  (to stay on topic).

Sandy, I'm tempted.  The trouble is I have three computers and all have problems.  My oldest one overheats and turns off.  This one is Windows 7 and W-10 has not been put on it and I still have problems.  The other one was W-7 and I added W-10 when it was possible so nothing works right.  If I do get a new computer, I would get W-10 and I know one reader here (who will be nameless) who would be happy.  She chastised me something awful when I said I was going to get one with Windows 7.

Marylyn  I had prostate cancer, removed with radiation, they had given me hormone shots (and then learned about hot flashes)  I had the bone scan and was pleased no prep, did not even have to remove my clothes.   The doctor laughs when she mentions the colonoscopy, and knows I will not have one.  Had shingles years ago, discovered and treated real quick and not much pain but was advised to get the shot.

Mary Ann I fell a half dozen times over the last year, but have not for the last 6 months.  Would bruise but no breaks.   Got a cane, and have it in the hall at home, tell myself if I fall again I will carry it.

Agree with Sandy, On computers I gave my Imac to my granddaughter, have been pleased with the 5 year old Gateway and windows 10, but would not hesitate to buy new if any issues.

Just a general computer question - my stepdaughter visited us recently & saw me using my laptop which was plugged in.  I had always worked with my last laptop plugged in.  She said this was bad for the computer.  Any comments on this - for or against?

What is bad for the puter?   Using it unplugged, or plugged?  I think either answer will be debatable.

She said leaving it plugged in was bad.  What is your opinion?  The reason I asked, is because it gets tiring to keep plugging and unplugging.
