Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Got it done..thanks Angel..Candy

I'm having what may, or may not, be a problem.  When I turn on the computer, the little icon in the lower right on the Taskbar that shows the Network/Internet access icon, is staying lit up with a little blue circle in it (not spinning).  I am able to receive email, and send email, and open various "news" sites, but this light staying on is upsetting to me, as the blue circle usually goes off after the computer is completely warmed up and ready to go.  Any suggestions?

jackwv

Tomereader it sounds like you have access.  With my windows 10 when I hit the arrow lower right it includes a logo for network and internet access, no circle.  If I click on it I am told it is working and also includes entry for settings that I did not touch.   Do not know what may be happening with yours but think I would reboot.  If it continues you might give us your operating system.

Tomereader1

Windows7
And when I click on the icon, it says "Currently connected to
"Network 4 Internet Access".

jackwv

Tomereader1  a long link that may have the answer.  I would just reboot and ignore it if all seems working.   You might scan to be sure no virus.

Tomereader1

Thanx Jack.  I am going to reboot, and then see what happens.   If it's still there, I will try some of the other suggestions in that link.

Tomereader1

Rebooted, Jack, and let the computer sit quietly and out of use for awhile, and when I came back in, the little circle was gone, and everything seems to be working OK
Thanks again.

jackwv

Tomereader, hope that solved the problem.   Nothing is routine anymore.

Tomereader1

Yes, JackWV, it solved the problem, and I'm sorry I have been so long in thanking you.  Now for a new "question".
Do you, or anyone here, use a PDF program?  I had the usual HP "trial software" for PDF Complete, and the freebie ran out.  Now if you try to print something w/PDF, it shows the PDF watermark.  The PDF Complete software is $69.95, and I only use PDF stuff about twice a year, so I think that price is ridiculous.  There are several PDF type software programs on the market, and I really wouldn't know which one to choose.  So, if anyone can vouch for a program like this, please let me know.  I have read some reviews of some programs, and they are not at all up to snuff with their purchasers.

I use Winzip, a subsidiary of Corel. They open just about any type of compressed file or PDF. I also have Open Office which opens and uses PowerPoint and PDF files.

I have a strange problem that is only on Seniors and Friends. I tried emailing Michael, who never answered, Jeanne Lee who suggested just holding down the control key and scrolling, (didn't work); and Beverly who had no idea. Jeanne thinks it is only on my computer. However, every other site doesn't have this issue.

Every picture or graphic is regular size and compression. Yet, since last Friday, all the graphics in PSP show so far to the right that you have to scroll to see the right side. If it was on my computer, them why is it only here and not on other sites such as news pages that use photos?

Okay, it doesn't do the same with the Edge browser, but I really don't care for other hassles that browser has. So before I go looking for a new browser, any ideas why the one I have is only having issues with S&F's  PSP graphics?

I use Chromium for a browser and Windows ten.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I often have pictures come up in S&F that are way to the right of the screen and where it is necessary to scroll to the right to see the entire picture.  I use Control â€" (minus) to make the picture smaller then I can see the whole picture.  I have problems with this computer where the font increases or decreases at will and I don't know if the problems are connected.  I don't use any of the programs you listed and this computer is W-7 but I am convincing myself to get a W-10 â€" soon.

MaryAnn, it worked! I got a message saying font size is and the graphics are back! Thank you!

The font is really small for me to read so I probably will look for a new browser, other than Chrome. Now I know why it was happening so I know what to look for.

IMHO --- you do NOT usually need the full PDF software, BUT - most people at one time or another need the "PDF Reader". It's used for User's Manuals and the like. It is available FREE from Adobe at -
https://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/.

Angelface555 - Are you sure you use Win-Zip for PDF's? - Very possible, but I have never tried that (but I will   ???  )

I just used WinZip to open a PDF. It did work, but it used Adobe Reader to open the file. Adobe Reader can be used directly to open a PDF, thus saving a step or two (faster).

Thanks for the information Rick. I'm so used to using Winzip for all types of files that I never think about it.

I have a little 12" Toshiba laptop, probably 6-8 years old using XP... all of a sudden I can't get the curser to work (& I don't know if that's the name of the little arrow you click on to do anything).  I've tried 3 different mouses (meese?) & even the little pad but nothing makes the arrow click on anything to even get into the computer to see if something has happened to a setting because I've accidentally hit a key or if because of an update..... or if those little USB ports have a problem (but that wouldn't affect the pad, would it?)  This was a really good computer when I bought it to replace my desktop unit.... only I discovered real fast that 12" was not large enough to play with photos like I enjoyed working will old cracked & faded prints.  Eyes couldn't take the tiny monitor.  Don't know how people do so much on their phones, but probably not messing with photos.

Back to the problem, is there any key or combo of keys that will let me get into the computer settings to even restore back a few months?  I've restarted & left it off for weeks but since it is battery back up, have to recharge it every so often to keep that alive.  I have to give it the "hard" shut down to turn off & it doesn't come back with the screen to offer "safe-mode"..... I'm not too bright & don't know names to even Google so appreciate any help so I can take this with me to dump photos on when I travel.  My sons are both too busy right now so I have not even mentioned this to them.   Thanks~  Shirley

Shirley

Cancel that request.... I did Google "cursor + Toshiba" & came up with the fix.  It  works!  Now I am running the Windows 7 adviser to see if this little puppy can handle the upgrade.  I don't know what or how to answer questions when doing things like this (do I click on OPEN or RUN?)  This is stressful so will go wash the RV & then the car.  Thanks again... Shirley

Mary Ann

Probably a stupid question - I am considering getting a new laptop with Windows 10.  If I don't change my password am I going to have the same troubles I have on my present computer?

Should be no problem re-using your password ---------- unless someone else has become aware of it and has access to your new computer.

I have Windows7 Home on my desktop computer. I have been thinking about upgrading the W7 Home to Windows7 Professional.  Can someone tell me anything about W7 Prof?
I saw it for sale locally at about $119.  Is that a good price? Or can it be found at a lower price?  Is it worth the upgrade?
I don't want W10 on my computer.  (I have a laptop with Win 8.1 which I thoroughly H A T E).  Any input will be appreciated (as always).

jackwv

Tomereader, no help here on your question, but I wondered about Windows 7 Professional and asked the question in Google.  Read that for most there is not that much more to Professional.

http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/article/386085/windows_7_home_premium_vs_windows_7_professional/

I was a big fan of 7, had no use for 8.1 but am very pleased with 10 and use it much like I did  my 7.   No touch screen that I do not want.   I use a desktop and shortcuts and seldom use the tiles on the start screen.   Not suggesting an upgrade, but still possibly free, but you should get your hands on a 10 at WalMart, Best By etc. and give it a look.

RAMMEL

I agree with jack Re: windows_7_home_premium_vs_windows_7_professional.
Look at the comparison.  I would keep what you have UNLESS there is something in the Pro version that you need.

I think you guys answered my questions.  Professional would not be suited to my type of computing.  Eventually I might get W10 for my desktop computer, but would prefer it to be on my laptop, which has that 8.1 junk.
Funny thing, when MS was offering Win 10 Free Upgrade, it didn't ever show upon my laptop.  It did on my desktop, and I downloaded it, but after a short time, found the instructions to remove it, and did so.
Thanks.  Will stick with W7 Home Premium.

https://techtalk.pcpitstop.com/2016/11/01/microsoft-security-vulnerability/?microsoftsecuritygap=

"A security vulnerability within the Microsoft software has been exploited and there is yet to be a patch to fix the issue.  Fortune reported Google notified Microsoft of the security issue on October 21st.  Typically when a vulnerability is found by Google, they provide 60 days for a patch; however, since this particular vulnerability has already been exploited by cyber criminals, that timetable is cut down to one week.

As of today, this security gap remains exposed.  This is clearly a security concern, and Microsoft software users must proceed with caution.  In the meantime, there are a few pieces of good news: ways to protect yourself until Microsoft offers a solution to the security hole.

Chrome has actually began blocking certain system calls, which prevents exploitation of the security gap.   So if you are using the Google Chrome browser, you should be safe.
Any malicious executables used through the Microsoft security vulnerability will be blocked by PC Matic.
According to The Verge, exploiting this security vulnerability requires collusion with the security gap associated with Adobe Flash.  Since being notified of the security gap, Adobe has fixed their security hole, therefore as long as your Flash is updated you should be safe."

Now I use for E-M. Gmail and Yahoo.  On Gmail for some reason when I forward one to some other person it just vanishes after sending. Can't find it anywhere. Not even in the SENT.

I have a question about the use of the snipping tool. Several of you use it and there was a brief discussion on it awhile ago. I put a link to it on my taskbar but other than that regrettably did not pay attention. Would someone be able to explain it's use and advantages to me? I am sorry that I wasn't paying attention earlier.

jackwv

Patricia, I use it often.  While you can  combine Prt Scrn and windows button to do a complete screen shot,  I find it useful to simply snip the portion of the screen I want, with the snipping tool.  Believe it best to link to a short and decent demo (there are others) I save as a jpeg so can sent the results in an email, or as a picture using wordpad.
