Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Oldiesmann: The chat can be accessed from the menu but I don't kow how often anyone is in there

Before I closed my account and transferred my email, outlook email.com was behaving sluggish and took forever.Whenever I would forward anything I would receive an empty text. I had emailed their text support twice and all they ever told me is that they were working on improving that system and were going to come out with a new program.

Opera and Firefox are open systems but the bug came from Chrome which is why we had the discussion on it. Chrome also has 54% of the market share but I no longer trust it.The quote said that Chrome browser is derived from an open source browser chromium and its source code is available on the Internet.

Read my post about browsers.

angelface555

This is something few people often think about and why it is so often cautioned to download only from the direct manufacture and to not use a download manager.

"Every application adds direct risk

Every application you download and install on your computer â€" be it your desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone â€" is an opportunity for your security and privacy to be compromised.

We regularly give applications much broader permissions to operate on our information than they need. In Windows, most programs can read any file, whether they need to or not. For example, that desktop chess game you just downloaded has complete access to the financial spreadsheets stored elsewhere on your computer."

Firefox's latest incarnation has added a new feature that flags websites that are not secure (https//). This one and SeniorLearn are both being flagged. I can still log-on, however; it is just a warning. Thought you'd like to know in case you get questions.

I've been resisting using a password protection program, but I guess I will have to look into it.

angelface555

McAfee also flags this site as having risky behavior.

I no longer use my Microsoft Outlook email as browsers Chrome, FireFox, and Opera will not go there saying it is unsecured and vulnerable to identity theft. Malwarebytes, McAlfee, and System Mechanic do the same. Edge will go there which raises a red flag, and I emailed Microsoft's live chat, and the tech admitted to only having a cheat sheet for callers and said they would pass the information along, so I don't expect much from that.

Besides FireFox's saving passwords and Opera also saving passwords, I rarely have to log in except after deleting cookies. However, since my memory has gotten so bad, I keep a cheat sheet off the computer.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I have never used Outlook because of something I read, possibly what you wrote.  I click on something that Tom set up when I got this computer and the menu/index comes up and I'm in business with S&F.  I don't have the problems others have, but I don't mention it because I don't want to jinx myself!

MaryAnn, back in 2000 when I purchased my first computer, I was told to use just under half of its memory, use a good antivirus, firewall, and second opinion antivirus and to pick a day to weekly clean my computer of temporary files and crud. I use the weekend for weekly cleaning.

Nowadays with more spam viruses and pups, that is even more important. Many formally good sites such as Microsoft, Java, and Adobe carry spam and other dangers onsite or with their downloads either unintentionally or to pay for things. Also, some popular sites such as comics, kids social pages or music sites are expected to carry malware. Porn, gambling and those type also generally carry malware.

You just have to be even more observant and careful. It amazes me what some people download or use without thinking even with the high cost of computers and high cost for replacements or repair. Someone I know regularly downloads "cash or value cards" from supposedly "manufacturers" such as Google or Walmart, even though I have told her several times its spam.

Last summer I had to do a clean reinstall of my computer as I picked up something that I couldn't get rid of. If all my browsers hadn't gone to the extent of refusing to go to my outlook email, what type of damage would I have incurred?

halkel

Strange, I use Firefox and get no such warning when I log on to S&F

MaryTX

Hal, I use Firefox and don't get any warnings either.

Mary

I use both FireFox and Opera browsers. The warnings about this site for me, come from my McAfee antivirus app.

JeanneP

I use firefox and use to get that warning about S and F. Someone told me what to do so that it didn't happen. Can't think what now.  Was a change in the Firefox I think.

I given up bothering about what can go wrong now on computers.  If the government cant stop the Span from getting in theirs then no chance we can.
I even go  a out of the country phone message on my Mobile phone today.  So they can be got into also now.  I don't do any banking or even have payment going direct anymore other than one to my newspaper and another on my Mobile phone. Usual deposits go into my account.  I just found out the other day that Comcast charge $10 on our bills if you mail them checks.   Sure don't want them deducting from my bank.  I have to get onto them every month about something wrong.

JeanneP

angelface555

Jeanne and all; it IS NOT Firefox that is giving the warning about S&F but antivirus apps particularly McAfee. Antiviruses are coded to pick up certain clues and while good, don't always work out. I know one antivirus that continually blocked WinZip for someone.

Not caring or using a computer without safeguards endangers us all.

JeanneP

I have the MS Security on mine and another one thing that I run but if we go into our spam file we will see a lot of things that are in there.  I even get more on the 2 tablets I have.  Not many on my IPad though.  I think even the Apple camputers are safer.  I really don't do a lot on the desktop anymore and it seems to run O.K.
fast.  I never have gotten int Games etc.  use to do research but use the Library and they can bring up the LDS in Utah and I don't want to join any on my computer.  I need to get back to doing some research.  We also have a LDS church here in town that is good for researching.

Now will our W7 still be O.K on Firefox.  They sure want people to keep spending money on getting new systems don't they.  Lots of people still do not want to move to W10. To many don't care for it.  I know many who never get on their computers now.  Just use the Apple Iphone which does everything for them.  Texting has taken over from the Emailing.

I believe the article said that W7 would continue to be supported. Just XP and Vista being abandoned.

Windows defender has my laptop locked and says I have the Zeus virus. I tried the phone number given and the recording said the office was closed. Call again tomorrow. Is that for real? And what's with no 24-hour tech support?

From my own recent experience with their live chat, the techs only know their cheat sheets and judging by their already answered questions, have only a rudimentary command of the English language. I was referred to three other people in one chat. I don't know what time zone they are in, but I wish you luck.

The new addition is for the new version 52. Please see the Whats New page on the Firefox website. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/52.0/releasenotes/  Click on the "non-secure..." link to see what the message looks like. I don't know what it does for those who type in their name and password every time, but for me it comes up in the Name box when I double click to bring up my login info.

I have a moron at Dell support who has been sending me letters in an extremely tiny italic script font. I tried increasing my font size to 72pts. which did nothing to the size of the email but raised my page's print to enormous!

I have twice sent back emails saying I cannot read any of this tiny print and each morning I receive another email in the extremely tiny italic font. Is there any way for me to enlarge this so I can read it?

so_P_bubble

forward one to me and I will see if I can change the font.

Sandy

Or copy and paste it to Note Pad or Word and change the font to what you are comfortable with.

angelface555

Update; he finally got the point as he changed the font and according to him, enlarged the font size to 72pt. I saw it as 10Pt which is basically what shows here. But thank you for the help  My computer is slow. You can turn it on, go to make coffee, feed yourself and pet, come back and it is just getting to the website you want.

Or you get the message that a script is no longer working, do you want to wait or stop the script? And the last annoying part is some programs only open when you first turn the computer on. If you try later, nothing happens period, no app such as PSP or Dropbox opening. When you restart, then they open.

The first guy did a remote and unplugged everything working so I had to go back and restart. The problems persisted. Then the second Dell tech came on and had me do a clean install. Still the same issues. Now a new Dell tech wants to do a remote and I said no, leave it be.

It is not an antivirus, it is the Dell laptop. I am so tired of paying top dollar for junk!

maryz

I'm glad nobody answered the phone last night. I took the laptop to Staples this morning. They've kept it till tomorrow, but will get it all cleaned up and protected. This was my first experience with a virus. Guess I've been lucky.

FWIW - My son's computer had a problem of being slow. Slow to do anything - start, run, stop. He had become frustrated with AdWare, malware, and a virus, so he installed a program to help protect him (in addition to his Anti Virus)(don't recall the program). Then he added another, and a cleanup program. I've been uninstalling and removing certain programs and with each the speed picks up.  Sort of like becoming insurance poor.

I will eventually upgrade that puter to W10 or a unix based prog.  I'm just "playing" with it now to see what might cause what.

I did that Rick, it isn't working on this computer. Thus my dancing with the Dell techs. I have less than half the memory used as well.

RAMMEL

A clean install should fix everything, unless one of the programs you add is creating a problem.
Have you tried it in "Safe Mode"?

It is the Dell computer. I have less than half of the memory used, I keep my temp files cleaned up and I do weekly maintenance. They check my resources and my antivirus and have done 3 remote views and three installs since the purchase of 08/16.

My laptop is at Staples, getting cleaned and protected. Should be able to get it tomorrow.

Three times since Aug, 2016 - sounds excessive  :o  Maybe a bad unit.

My HP Laptop went back to them three times because it wouldn't work right.  They couldn't fix it and took up hours of my time running their tests.  I finally found a fix on line from another (non HP) site. It fixed the problem but the funny thing is  that it was an HP file that I added to resolve their problem.  I'm sure they didn't make a buck on me. They paid for shipping both ways three times.

I spent hours Thursday with Comcast. on the Computer. Finely other than my account that was still messed up everything on TV taken care of.  They could do that on the phone. Looks like connection to Box had been turned off someplace.
Now today. Computer turn.  It was coming up Server not found.  I have unplugged, plugged in . Lights just would not come on the Modem. Finely can get on to a server and Internet working but I don't have any Wi Fi.  Ipad won't work or the Readers.  I just gave up.  Be a weekend not turning any thing on.
Now they will be over again Monday. Will get some reading done for a change.
