Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

What this means literally besides your ISP having the legal right to sell your private info as they please, it also means that any corporation, entity, business, insert legal term here, has the legal right to sell any and all information of your info that they come in contact with to anyone. Basically, you now have no right to insist your info remain private. This includes not just public records that were available anyway, but all private records such as banking, medical, automotive, insurance, etc. I am sure there will be legal orders and injunctions popping up but perhaps too little too late.

Think of it this way, your insurance company could sell your medical information with name, address and phone number to a drug company, legally. or to a medical lobbyist.

JeanneP

I agree Rick. It has been done for a few years now.  You can tell by what will show up on your computer after using it to research. Get E-M and phone calls from a lot of companies after just looking for a car. Checking Ins. companies. Need just one person given you E-M address. Fastest one was within 10 min. of checking Insurance  I got 3 email and one on the phone.

Angelface....the selling of my social security number, and medical and bank info really bothers me.  How are we to protect our identities when they're able to sell that info?

Search histories are one thing...my ss number, my medical, bank and investment data should not be allowed to be sold.

angelface555

Trump has indicated he will sign the bill. Another thing is what about military service related PTSD or civilian? Or a scammer operation looking to profit? Any type of info will be available for sale unless a judge puts a stop to it. The FCC and Obama squashed a bill last year but Trump favors it.

We can't put a stop to it when people are complacent and uninformed.

RAMMEL

Sounds like we are going a bit political here.

From today's news - Apparently Obama put the Bill in question through in recent history (shortly before leaving office). It hasn't taken affect yet (due later this year). So, the reversing of it will leave us where we have been in the past.  I believe they said the Bill would not have affected "Social Media" sites but rather service providers.

Maybe somewhere down the road we will learn what the whole thing is about.

October 27th 2016 from the Washington Post regarding FCC ruling stopping sale of personal info;

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-switch/wp/2016/10/27/the-fcc-just-passed-sweeping-new-rules-to-protect-your-online-privacy/?utm_term=.82c9ed312334

03/28/2017 the US House passed a bill saying it could be sold. Consumer advocates say this means broadband providers will sell your browsing history to the highest bidder. Industry groups say it preserves competition.

Rick is right, this discussion is veering away from computers toward politics.  Please continue with any more information on this subject in the political folder HERE

Jeanne, I don't do politics. This is my last post on the matter. It is up to everyone with a computer to stay informed on what is happening with the Internet. It is all over the tech and antivirus sites.

JeanneP

The Big April Fool one for this year that the kids found. If someone walks away from their computers. Just hit their Ctrl+Alt+down arrow.  Will put screen upside down.
to put it back Ctrl+Alt+up and back in business.   I never knew that one.  Fooled me
JeanneP

RAMMEL

Have you tried doing that ?

JeanneP

Rammel.

Yes, Works. I couldn't resist trying.  So much I don't know about what can be done on these computers. After so many years.
JeanneP

jackwv

Clever.  I ignored but had to try.  Was using the plus or minus on the keypad and did nothing.  Then tried the up and down arrows,  8 and 2.    Something more I can just forget and not use.

RAMMEL

I tried it using Firefox and it didn't work.
It's the WINDMILLS

It doesn't work with the Chrome Browser or the Opera Browser.

JeanneP

I use Firefox and works fine.  Now its using the UP. Down arrows by my calculator. I don't think it should make a difference what Browser one used.
Not something needed other than as a gag.

This is a video card option.  It's good for things like Projection it the projector is inverted or a laptop laid flat while showing images to someone across the desk.

Rick thanks, that explains a practical reason to use.

JeanneP

Never thought about that.  Always has to be a good reason things available on computers. Bet there are lots of things I would use if I only knew more.  The young kids of today are learning so much more than we did.  My one GGS smarter than I could ever be.

Cottoncandy

Do any of you use google chrome...if so do u like it....CC

jackwv

CC I tried it, did not like (never like change)   I am back to Internet Explorer.

halkel

CC, boy what a surprise, a nice one at that.  Happy to see you posting.

angelface555

I sometimes use Chrome along with FireFox, CC. But I use opera more. I'm the opposite of Jack as I've never cared for Internet Explorer or Edge. It is all in what we are used to.

MarsGal

My best friend is using Chrome. The only complaint he has is that it likes to drop PUPs into his computer that show up as malware. PUP-Potentially Unwanted Program. I am not sure what they actually do, but the ones I usually see are associated with Conduit. I've never actually looked up what they do, but it is a safe bet they are ad related or site tracking devices of some kind. Anyone know for sure? It is one of the reasons I don't use Chrome.

angelface555

Chrome uses open ware software that is freely available on the web. So it is open to spammers. Pups are software that bring unwanted adverts, adware, and unwanted toolbars to your browser and computer. Pups will often change your homepage, close or try to close your antivirus programs and use up your bandwidth. They can install keyloggers that will download everything you do on your computer including personal info and account numbers.

It leads not only to spam but to malware and may quickly damage your computer. I use Hitman Pro that constantly monitors my computer as a secondary antivirus program that eliminates the majority of these pups. This is why you should never do anything but a custom install of programs, watch to see what's downloading and always download from the program's original website and never, ever, use a downloader.

Sandy

I use Chrome all the time,  and I love it.

I like this post.  So simple but so true.  There are so many things in life that any one of us may wonder just why the h--- did anyone bother to do that. But most always, maybe down deep, there's a valid reason for doing that. My son always challenged why something was done, or why do "they" need that.  We have people with all sorts of ailments/disabilities but often our computers give us a way around these problems.  Speech recognition is a great example.

Rick, I use the Dragon voice recognition computer program and I would be lost without it.

I was reading earlier that they are already actively seeking places to land on Mars if suitable. Now we are really entering into what I used to think was the realm of science fiction! We are said to be in the midst of another industrial revolution with technical advances and discoveries, computer software, and space.

RAMMEL

Think way back to Dick Tracy and Diet Smith (remember them?).  We used to laugh at the way out Diet Smith inventions, like a wrist radio, pictures in a watch like device.

Rick that was interesting about Diet Smith.  I only thought of Dick Tracy.
