Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Oldiesmann: The chat can be accessed from the menu but I don't kow how often anyone is in there

I've never had to do that.  Can't recommend as I have no idea of what's involved  :(

CC are they discussing updates for windows defender or just for the definitions.  If just the definitions it would not take long to do.  When you open defender and click the tab updates you should see the screen I posted and click the update definitions tab.

RAMMEL

Jack - not sure but I think there are different versions for W-10 and the prior versions of Windows. My comments were considering Win-xp.   The laptop has Win-7 but I didn't check there (yet). Maybe tomorrow.

Rick, my defender came with the Windows 10 update.  Not sure if there are versions.  Appears updates to defender come with all updates. Will be interesting to see what you find out.
I get notifications when they scan.  If I were to scan I would update the definitions first.  Have not run a full scan for some time, would do overnight.  The quick scan does not take long.

My MS Security Essentials on the W7 Desktop has vanished for sure yet it I try to download again it does say that I already have and and can only get it free one time.  I think will just play on the computer until it quits all together . I don't do a whole lot on it now anyway. Just some old Internet Web sites I have used for years.

Jeanne, check and see if you have Windows Defender on your machine, it replaced MS Security Essentials.

Jack ---

It's all confusing, but I found this - which seems like it might be reliable.

https://blogs.microsoft.com/microsoftsecure/2013/11/14/windows-defender-and-microsoft-security-essentials-which-one-do-i-need/

My version of Windows Defender says     1.1.1593.0

Jeanne, do a search and see if it does show up.  Use you start icon and search box at bottom.

Just looked at Win-7.  It shuts off Windows Defender if another Anti-Virus is on. Looks like it is similar to the Win-10 version.

Jack and All.  Now I search back and finely found a way to get into MS Essential. Said I had not Checked lately. (Couldn't). And so I did a scan on it. Took over 4 hours.  Still doesn't come up when I just click on the Icon on my desktop. So doubt it now does it auto at 2pm on Sundays.
JeanneP

jackwv

JeanneP  May be a problem with the shortcut.   Found this with google

To create the desktop icon, follow these steps:

1.Click Start, click All Programs, and then locate Microsoft Security Essentials.
2.Right-click Microsoft Security Essentials, and then click Copy.
3.Right-click on the desktop, and then click Paste.

JeanneP

Jack I finally got it put to work again with I icon that will be set to run same time each Sunday.

Takes a long time if Run a full scan.

Is windows defender and Microsoft essentials the same thing . C. C

CC   I believe Windows Defender replaced Essentials and is the program that now is on Windows 10.   I like that it runs full time..

JeanneP   I have seen no need to run a full scan, but no harm.  Problem is it takes so long, so do it overnight.   If I am curious I will on occasion run the quick scan and it runs in less than an hour.

Good link if you do not have Defender  with your version of Microsoft and still want Essentials   https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14210/security-essentials-download

Cottoncandy

I guess my windows defender is working...I did the full scan...took 4 hours..the quick scan less than a hr....I'm not going to worry about the definitions updates....tried everything except doing it manually...don't know how to do that...so will just keep going till it crashes...CC

jackwv

CC when you open Windows Defender   It should indicate the definitions are up to date. The update button will give the date of last update, it should be within days, if not we have to determine why you are unable to update, I never do manually.

Cottoncandy

Jack..if I knew how to post the picture I would...when I open Defender.....check for new definitions is highlighted top left page...to the right top page highlighted in blue is check for updates now...when I click on that..it takes me to the same page..underneath saying....view troubleshooting tips on the web....that tells me to update manually???  CC

jackwv

CC would sure like to see the screen you addressed.   You should check out the snipping tool and youtube has tutorials.  I am going to do this post in two separate views.

This is what I get when I open Defender

jackwv

When I press the update tab I get this.  The updates are automatic and I never bother to click the update definitions tab.

Really would encourage anyone looking in to check out the snipping tool, really comes in handy saving a portion of the screen as a jpeg (photo)  sorry to say you still have to resize to post here.

jackwv

Looked at a number of tutorials for the snipping tool they differ a bit by the windows program you are using, but like this short one, worth a look.

Now I only run a full scan because they do take a long time. Maybe do one every 2 months or so.  Usually its set on fast one that takes a hour. Set Auto to do it Sunday at 2:30

What does it mean when a pop-up screen tells me "Facebook is not responding due to a long-running script"?
I have the option to "stop script".  Am I stopping something I should let alone?

angelface555

Programs are run by various scripts. If you stop a script, the program will not run correctly unless you back out, turn it back on and hope the script will then run correctly. Often, issues with scripts mean your computer memory is too full or that you need to clean up and defrag. And clean up the junk on your computer.

When I get a script message like that on a particular webpage (not not elsewhere) I always think it has to do with something not programmed well on that site or something that my ad blocker program flagged rather than something in my computer programming. I can generally just cancel out of it and keep going or go somewhere else and come back to that page later if I really want to see something there. At any rate, I don't see that problem much anymore.

However, a reminder to everyone to clean out their cache and defrag when necessary is always good maintenance advice. I use CCleaner to clean up unnecessary and temp files but there are other good monitor and clean up programs out there if you don't want to use what comes with the OS you are using. DeFragging isn't something that usually needs done very often.

angelface555

I have a program that I really like but the main thing is to have a regular schedule and also not to run two types of the same program as they compete against each other. Not every program runs the same way and two will not work together. Your computer's operating system comes with two or more good programs but they may not suit you. There are both free and paid for programs but I would look for what you want to do and look at reviews and customer comments on good sites such as Ask Leo, How to Geek or Pitstop.

The only time I have had issues with scripts has been when I have overloaded my computer's memory with two many programs and need to scale back to just over half of the memory used. I defrag probably monthly, but I run both daily and weekly schedules for cleaning, optimizing and other tasks.

What I really need is a way to deep clean email contacts. It's my own fault for not doing it before  I merged three email programs into one and I have duplicates, no longer viable and unknown emails. It is a daunting task to one by one, clean 1,219 email addresses so I always put it off.

jackwv

I have not manually defragged for possibly a year.  Had to go back to see the routine.  My settings are for Microsoft to do weekly.   I just went into my PC and analyzed, it said 0% fragmented.  I do, on occasion, get the script message, but stop it and move on.

angelface555

I don't think I have ever manually defragged.

Mary Ann

I put "defrag" in for search and all I got was offers of programs to buy.  I am on Windows 10 and have never defragged.  I remember on older computers that it was fun to watch the defragging.
