I am still using W7 and once in awhile will Manual  Disk Check and Defrag after. Maybe time to do that today.  I like to watch the one Called "Cleanup" work Talk about speeding through.

MaryAnn, on windows ten, go into your settings, or go to your start menu and go down to Windows Administrative Settings. All of the defrag, optimize and clean up tools are in there.

MaryAnn   if you go to the search window and start typing in Defrag, then Defragment and Optimize drives comes up.   Click on it and you will get this screen   You are probably being checked weekly but can change.   You will note on my screen they also list my external hard drive, and it can also be analyzed.  They give you the percentage. You can analyse by clicking but again if you are showing a low percentage, no need.



JeanneP I can also recall on a boring day, running the defrag and got a kick out of seeing the files moved about.

Which is better -  0% fragmented or 0% defragmented?  I ran a check.  HP and Factory Image (D) are 0% fragmented.  System is 23% fragmented.
Automatic  defrag runs at 4:30 a.m. once a week.  Should I leave my computer turned on the night before?

Patricia, I clicked on Fittings and got nothing like you mentioned.  I went down some of the items to see if it was in one of them and it wasn't.  Some how or other I did something that prevented me from closing.  I went all over the place and I had no idea how I got there or where I was.  I couldn't even turn off the computer.  All of a sudden, I realized I was using the right mouse to do anything and how I got that, I have no idea; I wasn't in the place to check my mouse.  I did get to the control panel and checked on my mouse and it was checked for left hand.  I changed that and managed to get back to square one, restarted the computer and here I am.  I don't care if my computer is being defragged or not - I am not going to go through that again. 

Jack, when I go to search, I get ads for defragging, not the screen you show.  Sometime I'll try it again, but I'm going to stay where I am because it works!

Mary Ann  I was talking about typing in the search window on windows 10, lower left of the screen.   You might give it a try, but a this point I believe you would also be having Microsoft optimizing for you.   

Callie 0% fragmented is fine.  If it were high % you would then defrag.

If your puter is 23% fragmented I would guess it hasn't been defragmented in a VERY long time. Your computer must be on (powered up) in order for any automatic things to be done - including Defrag.
I would suggest either leave it on over night or start it manually (my pref). It will likely take a long time to complete so do it when you have no computer stuff to do. Don't do any other computer operations while it is running.  Start early and check from time to time to be sure it is perking along.

Jack, I did it and I have 0% fragmented and 0% on everything else listed.

And I didn't have to go through everything on the computer.  I have no idea what I did but I was so happy to get things back in order.

MaryAnn, I have no idea what you did either. If you go to your start menu which comes up when you click the windows symbol at the very lower left of your taskbar or screen. And go all the way down alphabetically to Windows Administrative Settings, you would click on that and see the Windows Defrag and the optimizer tools listed. That's all.

At least Rick and Jack were able to show you via a search.

Has been so long since I defragged, I had forgotten all about doing it.  I have Win 7.

It worked!   Left computer on all night and by the time I got to it this morning,  everything had defragged.
Now to figure out how to remind myself to do that every Tuesday night!!

Jack. My Defrag seem to not be working.  It scanned the Disk O.K. But then when clicked to Defrag. Will not do it.  Tried getting in a couple ways . This old W7 needs retiring.  Still works good though.  Not a whole lot I do on it anymore.

Be aware that Yahoo has been messing around with some of their stuff. Don't know if their email is included in that but I just checked a Yahoo address I have and it was OK.

Hal, she is unable to get to her Yahoo mail list.  I had something display larger than usual this morning, but I don't think it is Yahoo's doing; it has to do with my local news, however, I am online when I view the site.

She can't see well enough to find other sites, so posts on Norm's B&T and if you go there, you can see what WJoan has posted.

This is what I CANNOT do in Yahoo mail.  I cannot read email, cannot send mail, cannot forward mail, cannot delete mail.  I want to change it all over to Gmail and need someone with authority to change my email address in here for me cuz I cannot see it.  PLEASE.  Thank you/

Joan. I use to use yahoo for Emailing. It got awful. I left it on but now for a long time I have used Gmail. It is hard to take a site like Yahoo off. So just quit using. Go into www.google. .com  and open a G.mail.com account new one.

JeanneP, it is easy enough to open a gmail account, but what Joan needs is to have the e-mail address changed here and someone has to do it for her.  I hope someone in authority reads her message (or this one) and changes it for Joan (aka WJoan).

Rick, are you able to change Joan's e-mail here?

Jane, that is fine, I just had my son move all my contacts to Gmail for me.  I rarely get any email from people on here anyway. 

Sounds good, Joan!  I think you'll like gmail.  I love it and have had no problems with it.  It does, of course, take some getting used to and finding out what they call "stuff" and where it is.  You are very computer savvy, however..and have been on computers for a long time.  You'll figure it out easily.

Jane.  Now I thought that one could just go into their account here and change their E-M address listed.  I thought I did when I changed it from Yahoo to Gmail.
But now realize that Joan has a problem typing so can't do that.

A few months back I had issues with Outlook.com being open to identity theft and spyware and then also Yahoo. I was able to have both emails sent to my Gmail account. Perhaps, Joan, your son will be able to link the Yahoo account to your Gmail and you will catch any missing or stray emails.

Angel, son imported my contact list from yahoo to Gmail.  Glad that is done. Now just need to tell everyone.  LOL  Damn, I hate being so blind, used to do all this stuff by myself.
