Callie, I clicked on the link just in time to see a man walking on a wire (or whatever they walk on) and I am sorry, but I did not want to watch it.  I am sure every thing will be OK, but that sort of thing gives me the heebeejeebies.  It is just after 9:30 as I type so you are right about the timing.  I appreciate their nerves, but mine aren't that steady!

I went out on the deck for quite a while but I felt sprinkles so came in.  I won't have to water my plants out there if we have a decent rain.  Tom is at a gathering at a restaurant that features outdoor dining.  He's likely to be under the awning if it rains.

Barrow, Alaska  Why the Northernmost Town in America Exists $20.00 for diapers or toilet paper for a town of 5,000? *******6 months of darkness versus 6 months of 24/7 daylight?

P.S, He made it across!

Mary Ann. The Wallenda family have been circus aerialists for several generations. This was a brother and sister walking toward each other and crossing in the middle.  They both made it.

Normally, I wouldn't have been interested but was curious about the live webcam showing. Interesting differences.

Callie and Patricia, I'm not surprising the wire walkers made it but I just don't enjoy watching it.

Patricia, I did not realize Barrow AK had a population of 5,000.  Even that average wage of $80,000 yearly wouldn't go far with those prices.  One of my co-workers had a nephew working in Barrow, must have been in the '60s or '70s, maybe earlier, and she flew up there to visit for a few days.

I went down further on the list and viewed ice at the Strait of Michigan and the date 3/25/19 was at the end of when shipping was stopped during the winter.  Paul must have gotten a head start.  I know the Mackinac Bridge isn't as well known as the Golden Gate Bridge, but it's beautiful to us Michiganders.  I remember crossing so many times by ferry, driving the car onto the ferry, then going to the UP - before the bridge was built.

One year Jim and I were in the UP in October.  Ordinarily October is a beautiful month up north, especially near the Strait.  That year we had snow.  We had Jim's car and had no trouble crossing over the bridge at the 20 mph limit, but semis, cars with trailers, trucks larger than pickups all had to be escorted to make sure they did not exceed that 20 mph limit.  There might have been some wind, but with the road conditions and possible wind, a tall vehicle could have gone over the side of the bridge.  I am sure we had to travel on the inside lane, too.  That lane is a grid and snow would fall into the lake when driven on.

Hi everyone on what looks to be a beautiful but hot South Carolina day that is to be sunny, with no  chance of rain and a high of 95 degrees.  Today is the day my sister and brother-in-law have to return to their home in NW Iowa.  There visit has seemed much too short but it has been a wonderful, memory filled experience.  We have laughed a lot and cried a little as we recall our childhood and the many years since.  Fortunately they will be able to stay until mid-afternoon.

Yesterday Scott and Bob (BIL) got my new beautiful TV on the wall and Scott  went through the process of getting it all set up, something he really enjoys doing.  I got my new blue tooth headset and am enjoying the XM music station Escape that plays beautiful music.  I had a very restful night.  I was really exhausted when I went to bed right after dinner and slept for 2 or 3 hours, then was up for an hour or so and then sort of followed that pattern for the night. I just don't want to waste one of these very precious hours and know that later this week everything will pretty much quiet down.

Today Scott will install our SimpliSafe home security system.  He advised me last night that we really aren't going to be able to eliminate the Ring Doorbell as that is the outside camera and the SimpliSafe works within the house.  He wanted me to order a couple of key fobs so that the alarm can be activated or deactivated from the car rather than having to rush into the house and remembering to turn off the system.  I will do that later this morning when I can just call and order them.  We will activate the system and we have a 72 hour testing period where they would not call 911 as get everything set up and in place.  I also get a one month free monitoring.  So by this evening we should be pretty well protected and monitored 24/7 with a good deadbolt system on our front door.  My new glass chair mat for the big computer is to be delivered today and finally Scott and Bob may install the four grab bars around the area where I will be sitting at the large computer in the mornings.  Am I a lucky man or what.

Yesterday in the daily devotional book the Upper Room was a reference to Galatians that I am going to make my new Scripture reference and that is Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Gentleness and self-control." In other words "Playing with Joy" and that is the way I hope and want to live out the rest of my life here on this earth.

Marilyne

Larry - Good to see you here this morning. Sounds like your visit with your sister and husband, was a wonderful time for everyone.  It is such fun to reminisce with siblings and cousins.  They are the ones who shared your life when you were growing up, and were there with you for all occasions, both big and small. I used to love talking with my brother about our old home town, our house, school, and all our old friends, neighbors, holidays, etc. I do miss him so much since he has been gone. (Oct., 2017)

Mary Ann - I'm with you, when it comes to watching the Wallenda Family, and their high wire stunts.  Risking their lives, is a show business thing, for their Wallenda family, and that that is how they make a living!  I'm not a fan of any activity that takes place any higher up than two stories, so I didn't intend to watch.  However, as soon as I found out that they were wearing safety harnesses, I relaxed a little, and did watch the actual half hour walk at the end. (I couldn't abide all the talk, talk, talk and hoop-la, that went on before!)

One thing that's interesting about any event that takes place in the East, or Midwest . . . it has already happened, by the time we see it on TV, three hours later!  Now, thanks to the internet . . .  if we want to find out the results of a contest, the final score of a ball game, or what happened in an important episode of a TV show, we can get the answers long before it is actually shown here.  I think that's one of the reasons that I enjoy watching the webcams from different places in the USA.  Whatever is on the camera, is happening at the exact time that I am watching it.

FlaJean

Mary Ann, I don't watch anyone tightrope walking either.  I don't like those circus high wire acts either.  It makes nervous that someone will get hurt.

It is 87 degrees here and our high is supposed to be 89.  This is tourist season and three men were caught in riptides in the Gulf and died.  The red flags are flying as a warning but some just don't pay attention to the danger.

Larry, what a nice post from you today.  Good to hear about the nice visit with your sister and brother-in-law.  My husband asked me yesterday if I would like to have a new MAC computer.  My iMAC is 10 years old but is still working good so I said no I'll keep using it as long as I can.  It has several good apps that I like that won't work on a new machine.  After using my iPad, the computer seems so slow but I don't use it that much anymore.

We think Mrs. Bluebird is sitting on her nest.  I saw Mr. Bluebird get mealworms from the bluebird feeder and go over to the house and stick his head in and then flew up to the tree.  While ago my husband saw a different bluebird feed a baby bluebird on the feeder and then they both flew to the tree.  We have lots of finches and warblers and regular visits from a mockingbird.  We also have catbirds but they are solid gray and don't have the pretty white markings like the mockingbird.

We haven't heard from Joan in Washington lately.  Hope she is doing OK.  Have a good day everyone.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I saw on the news that your "neighbor" had a bobcat in her back yard and a couple of coyotes chased it away.  Too close for comfort, however, I read about black bears in Michigan towns where people have taken away the bears' territories.  All they need is a tree to attract the bears.  What a world!

I am trying my "new" a/c system that I signed with the power company  last week.  It is the same system that Joy has and I don't expect any problems.  I turned on the air because it felt a bit close in here this morning.  It was nearer 11 am and the temp was already 79 in the house; I keep the a/c thermostat at 78 degrees.  The a/c went on immediately but now has cycled and is not running.  I will see how I like it and I had to agree to a year.  We usually do not have excessive heat, however, things have been changing so I'm not going to say we "never have excessive heat" because sometimes we do and being near Lake Michigan, we do feel humidity.

...Larry, could you tell me who the author I need to look for when I am looking on Amazon (UK) for the devotional book you have mentioned..." The Upper Room, and The Upper Room Disciplines " I would like to purchase it but I dont want to get the wrong book, seems to be a few books with that title with different author names....Yes i like what is says...

I too would like to follow your philosophy..." and that is the way I hope and want to live out the rest of my life here on this earth.."

Mary Ann - Interesting that our local story about the standoff between the mountain lion and the coyotes, was shown on your news channel!  We saw it too, and were trying to figure out exactly where it was, in regards to our house?  It didn't give a specific address on our news, and I didn't recognize the name of the woman.  They will probably give an address today on Next Door.  There was video about a week ago, that was shown on our news, of a Mt. Lion, outside of a glass slider at night, looking in, while the family was sitting right there watching TV.  The little dog was barking, which is probably what the lion was after.

The big cat you saw in the video, was a Mountain Lion, or sometimes called a Cougar.  A bobcat is smaller, is striped, and has a short tail. Mt Lions have a long tail, sometimes fluffy, and the ones around here are a solid gold or pale yellow color. The name of my town is Los Gatos, which means The Cats,  in Spanish.  They have always been here, but now have become very bold and unafraid in recent years.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, where I saw the story was on the computer.  I was paging down Yahoo news and they have headlines and opening paragraphs so when I saw Los Gatos, I had to read the story.  I am sure when you live in a mountainous area you have many exotic animals, ones we would not see here.  We have raccoons and other water animals, also a few varieties of birds, such as Great Blue Herons, an occasional egret, bittern, sandpiper, cardinal, blue jay, nothing unusual.

Rick, Thank You - I hope we soon hear from Joan.

Jean - Have you taken any pictures of Mr. and Mrs. Bluebird?  It would be fun to see them in the photo folder.   AJ and I have always had iMacs, and whenever they slow down and start getting sluggish, there are certain things you can do, that will get them back to original speed?  I'll check with him, and see what he says?  My new Mac is only about three years old, so it's still in great condition, and we've had no problems. I can tell when something is starting to go wrong, when that rainbow colored ball starts spinning, and won't stop! ha ha!  Then I turn the computer completely off, and leave it off overnight. Whatever the problem was, it seems to be gone by morning.  :)

Rick, Joan had been posting regularly until then and things sounded as if things were going OK with Joan, but I think Candy was having medical problems and maybe things aren't going as they should.  10:54 PM our time would be 7:54 PM her time in Washington State.  I hope she does respond to your e-mail.

Marilyn, that is the way I cure my PC problems too.

Tom went to therapy this afternoon so we went out to eat at Cheers.  I had a sandwich and he had a burger and we both had cole slaw.  As usual, I brought half of my sandwich home.

God evening  I'm sitting on the patio enjoying a bit of cool breeze, my flowers and a few birds at the feeder.  Earlier, there were two rabbits, two squirrels and a dove looking for leftovers under the feeder.
One squirrel had started using a planter pot as a launching pad onto the feeder so I moved it farther away and turned the edge that the penta covers toward the feeder so he can't get a toe hold.  So far...so good but I think I've said that before  ::) !

Neighbor just peeked around the fence. Visiting time.

Mary Ann

Good luck, Callie, on out-foxing the squirrel.  It rained much of the afternoon and I did not know it because I was inside watching ships.

Just when you thought the fires were out, less than 2% humidity with no more smoke presently. However, no thundershowers expected after yesterdays. Not good when you live in the midst of an enormous arboreal forest but then they say that the Interior is a fire ecology.

It was a busy day around here and I am just getting in to see how EVERYFRIEND is doing?  Many loads of laundry, cleaning up the patio and plants.  It was 80 degrees today.....a real heat wave after several very cool days.

It was good to see the family at dinner Saturday Night.  Michele is doing OK, just very tired as always.  She is to have a scan this coming Friday that will give her an update on how the tumor on her lung is doing.  Of course we hope and pray that there will be improvement and they might be able to adjust her chemo to something that does not zap her so much.

Yesterday our Grandson Matt had his review board process and he is now officially a Eagle Scout.  We are so proud of him.

LARRY, I am so happy that you were able to enjoy the nice visit with your sister and BIL. The reminiscing was very special to both of you.    I know it must have been sad to tell them goodbye.

CALLIE, Squirrel can be so annoying....I hope you are successful at keeping them at bay!

Tomorrow we have our yearly physicals and I am sure not looking forward to it.  Hopefully my blood work will be good and I will only get a good talking to about my weight😩😩

Präsent dreams to all.

...oh yes it is always about our weight, this is the first thing our medics bring up, they look at the size of us as we are walking into their room, this is there " be all and end all cure for everything" ::) .......Well when something happens we will automatically lose our weight overnight anyway...Richard too had done, followed all medical orders, he lost a lot of weight, he chose to do this himself, but even that did not save him, did not keep him alive any longer...

We just returned from my having my hair shampooed and cut, then we went to breakfast at the restaurant next door.  My hair will look nice for a few days but when I lie on my left side at night, the left side never looks nice.

Jenny, I remember when you were awaiting Matt's birth, the first grandchild, and now he's an Eagle Scout.  Time certainly does fly!  You are right to be proud.

I can honestly say that it's been many, many years since my doctor has remarked about my weight, which is too much for my height!  Or I'm too short for my weight!  I think they're amazed that I'm still here.

Robin will be here sometime early afternoon for us to work on the computer room mess, although I do want to say the room looks much nicer with stuff out of it.  But where we put the stuff is not as neat!

I confused Kendrick last night by sleeping on the covers instead of under them.  He did not know where to settle but he finally slept on the edge of the bed.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Good morning to everyone who has arrived this morning - plus those who left messages last night.

Jenny - I'll be keeping Michele in my prayers, that the lung tumors have shrunk, since her last X-ray.  Congratulations to your grandson Matt, on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout!  That is something very special, and I know that you and Bob, as well everyone in the family, will be attending the award ceremony.

Patricia - I can relate to the fires!  When the humidity gets down to single digits, it's inevitable!  Some of the fires here get started from sparks coming off of electrical power lines, as a result of high winds and low humidity.  This season, our NorCal electrical utility, (PG&E), is going to try something new, which will be to turn off the power in outlying towns, during those dry, windy spells.  People will complain, because it will be off for a couple of days - but better no power, than having your house and community burn down!

Mary Ann - it must have felt good to have someone wash your hair?  I get my hair cut every six to eight weeks, but I don't get it washed at the shop.  My hairdresser prefers to cut mine dry.  That's fine with me, because she charges me less, because of no shampoo.  However, I do miss that little bit of pampering.

I've been having a terrible time sleeping in recent weeks.  Seems that I wake up at around 3:00 AM, and cannot go back to sleep.  So I get up around 3:30 or so, and clean up the kitchen, or put a load of clothes in the washer, etc.  Then spend some time on the computer or reading, and then back to bed around 4:30 or 5:00.  I'm still wide awake, so I finally get up for good at 6:00, and make the coffee, and get started on the day.  So far, it doesn't seem to be bothering me.  Today I plan to go to the SAS shoe store and maybe buy some sandals, and then to Sprouts grocery store, to get something for dinner, as well as some vitamins and bakery items.  If I feel like it, I will then stop at the Hallmark Store, just to spend some time looking around.  It's such nice place to shop, with lots of lovely things to look at.  I rarely buy anything there, except cards, but I find it to be a nice, quiet, relaxing store to visit.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, by the time my stylist has dried my hair, it is almost dry.  I have had my hair cut wet in the past but not now.  This is a well-known place in town and they have prices to match.  I've gone there for about 35 years and I think I pay a lot for just a shampoo and haircut.  There isn't much styling, just cutting and combing.  My stylist's rate has increased by $8 in the two years she's been cutting my hair.  There are less expensive stylists, but not by much.  I am satisfied with the cuts and I probably will not do anything - but complain!

I have a pair of SAS shoes that I've had for some time and they are very comfortable.  I haven't worn them for a while but maybe I should get them out.

Hi everyone. Today we will have a partly cloudy day with a high of 91 but no rain in the forecast. We had quite a day yesterday.

Scott got the new SimpliSafe home security in place and was really impressed with the company and the system. A representative stayed on the phone with him and guided him each step of the way. It was not difficult as there is no wiring except a power cord for the video camera that shows a large part of our home. I had not purchased that originally but in talking with them we found it could be easily wired into the home doorbell and so no more batteries with Ring. We will be able to cancel the Ring doorbell contract and they provide storage of the footage of the camera and they don't increase the monthly fee for this service. I now have a panic button that I can carry around my neck and have ordered two more panic buttons so Pat and I each have one permanently by the bed as well as keep one with us. That also saves on a separate Life Alert type monitoring service as this service is a monitored one 24/7. With my iPhone app I can monitor our home from anywhere and do things like set the system on. It is really quite something. I don't want to sound like a commercial but just speaking as a very satisfied customer.

Scott noticed how much both Pat and I enjoyed getting out of the house when we all went to dinner and suggested that we do this at least once a week on one of his days off. It may be just a little drive or to go out for lunch. Pat and I both thought that was a good idea. Also now with the Panic Button Pat should feel free to leave me alone.

Finally I made a decision that I want Pat's upcoming birthday and our anniversary to be very special as this could be our last one. I think I mentioned this yesterday. I set the wheels in motion bought this 65 " Sony TV that is blue tooth equipped and does a lot of other things. I am getting Pat a set of the Bluetooth headphone like I recently got that will fit her head. One of the nice things was that they offered a 5 month repayment plan with no interest if paid over the 5 month period. So I will just have smaller charges for the five months rather than having to pay for it upfront. It is being delivered to Scott's home and right now I have arranged with my good neighbor, who has a pickup, to bring it out here as it won't fit into the car. It weights 51 pounds. We will cover it with black plastic so that what is in the box can't be seen until it is time to install it. Now she will have the best TV in the house in the living area where she spends so much time in her easy chair and hopefully will have many, many hours of very enjoyable TV watching in the days ahead.

This afternoon the man should be here to start working on the new ramp in our garage. He said he would plan on doing it this afternoon and then on Thursday,

Scott is coming over to change out the Modem/Router as this may be the problem with our internet being so sporadic.

Janet, I certainly agree with you that it is time for some younger folks to take over the responsibilities you have had for your annual fair. You have certainly reached the age where you need more time for the things you enjoy without all the pressures of direct involvement. Also, it sounds like a wonderful thing to go visit your sister. Is she under Hospice care? Pat's sister must have her gall bladder removed as she is in severe pain a lot of the time. The doctor told her she wasn't like to have a ruptured gall bladder because there are no stones. She was going to come and suffer during her visit in fear that I wouldn't last long enough for her to have the surgery and recover 3 weeks before she would be cleared to travel. I had suffered the same terrible pain before they finally tested and found I had a bad gall bladder and once it was removed I was fine and all the pain and discomfort went away and I was able to eat anything. I got a commitment from her that she would do as I asked. She has always looked to me to help her. Now when she comes she should be able to really enjoy being here. I know everyone isn't the same but waiting just a few weeks to recover will make her visit much more enjoyable. I had never heard of the glass mats until the ramp building mentioned them. I love mine already. They are pricey but I no longer have to fight that old black mat that buries the wheels in those little holes.

Jackie, I did send you information via email about the devotionals I follow each day. I look forward to getting the emails and doing the short devotional readings each morning. While you can purchase a subscription for the little monthly magazine they publish the same material for free in the daily emailed devotional.

Ellie, thanks for that additional research and sharing on Invictis. I agree with your husband in that I want to continue to share as many of the household chores as I am able as it gives me a sense of accomplishment. I just have to be smart enough to know which I can and which are really too much for me anymore. We are very blessed to have a fine housekeeper so other than the kitchen area and the bathrooms basically we don't have a lot of housework to do and Pat takes care of these, although I help keep the kitchen clean when I feel up to it. One of the problems with just reading words without the benefit of further discussion or observing facial expressions is that it is easy to misunderstand what is really met. I didn't read your comments about your husbands enjoyment of the poem as negative. I always thought it was a pretty neat poem myself and if the lad was only 16 he had had a lot of bad experiences. I guess in many ways we are the masters of of fate by the decisions we make to believe the Bible or not.

Jane, I think we only way we will be able to keep these discussions going into the future is if we can tell enough people and convince them to come and see what we are all about and that we would welcome them. Certainly Michael is doing all he can to be sure we have the site. Unfortunately over these twenty plus years we have lost so many fine fiends and those of us remaining won't be here forever. I bet those raspberries are very tasty. I think you must have inherited some of your father's love of farming.

Lloyd, I hope you were able to get some good sleep last night. One of the joys of the journey I am now on is I can get up and work on the computer at anytime of the day or night and also lay down and rest or sleep anytime I want.

Mary Ann, Pat has worn SAS shoes for a number of years.

Marilyn, I had one of those nights where I got very little sleep.  I think I just got too wound up with all the planning and arranging I was doing.  I should be able to rest well tonight.

Joy

Good morning.  Another pretty sunny morning and looks like a nice day ahead.

Sounds like everyone is keeping busy.  I am just saying a quick good morning. I need to get myself moving along and get something accomplished today. I have been a little lazy this week.

Hope everyone will have a nice day.

Mary Ann

I heard noises at the front door this morning and found Tom coming in with our groceries.  I held the door open for him!

It is going to be a warm one today, up into the 80s.  It is already 72 degrees at 9:45.  I know, it is the start of the a/c season.

Larry, you really are on the ball in getting things in order for your comfort; it is good to read about.  I'm happy that Scott is able to do so much to help you.  My dad was like that, but I think the talent did not get passed down.  I think I was able to help my dad more than Norm but I'd never attempt doing anything constructive now.  Norm did learn a lot when he married and he had a father-in-law who could do everything.  Dad often said he argued with kids all day long and he wasn't going to argue with his own when the got home so I think he didn't have a lot of patience with Norm, who would not take 'no' for an answer.

I don't have anything on the agenda today but tonight is the annual condo meeting and Tom is going to represent our unit.  He is not a co-owner but he is a resident so is eligible to be my proxy.  I attended many meetings of years ago and I was secretary, then treasurer of the Association so I feel entitled to stay at home now.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Joy, Mary Ann and Larry - I enjoyed reading your messages first thing this morning.  It's very quiet around here . . . AJ is still sleeping, and I'm just sitting here, waiting for the coffee to be ready.

Today I have to go to the Imaging Center, for an ultrasound on my thyroid.  I've had lots of ultrasounds, over the years, so I know what to expect. A painless and quick procedure.

The coffee is ready, and after I enjoy my two cups, I'll take a shower and get ready to face the day.  I will return later, and will be hoping to see lots of messages in all the S&F folders!  :)

Mary Ann

Marilyn, good luck with your ultrasound.  I had one once on a leg and I don't remember why; it had to do with a constant ache I had - I think.

You probably won't find too many posts because I posted about 9 am and you're the only poster since - at 9:30 my time - and here it is 2 pm.  I've been typing a letter to go with a retirement message and printed that and the address label.  While looking for a stamp, I discovered I had not paid my estimated taxes and now I can't find what I had put together for those.  I think our trying to "un"mess the computer room, something was put where I can't find it.  I can go to my return and get the information.

Today on the Marine City cam I saw the Pearl Mist, a cruise ship on the Great Lakes go by.  I missed seeing it at Port Huron because it is now on Lake Huron.

People on Soda Shoppe are concerned about the lack of posters too.  Both folders have lost people to death, but there are no replacements.  We need new members!!
