Good morning, Buddies.  My cleaning ladies couldn't come on Tuesday due to the storm and were scheduled to come this afternoon at 3:00.  However, one of them called while I was out walking to ask if they could change the time.  She didn't remember her cell number, so I had to call the main office and ask them to tell the ladies anytime today is OK with me.  I've already washed the sheets and a blanket I had on the bed, so all they'll need to do is put them back on and clean as usual.

Tim has come over the past couple of days and has taken pictures of the damage with his phone, so we'll have that to show the insurance guy/gal when he/she shows up.  I've had USAA since 1958 and have always had good service from them.

It's about time for me to get out to the kitchen and start a pan of rice and cut up veggies for a stir fry.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Sue, I meant to ask - since the tree was in your neighbor's yard,  wouldn't their home-owners insurance take care of it.  I remember once, we took out a tree because we were afraid if it ever did come down in a storm, it would fall on our neighbor's house.  Just curious.

We've actually seen a little bit of sunshine today - first since Monday.  And, I did something I never expected to do - I bought a piece of furniture.  The girls had suggested I might think about replacing the loveseat in my living room with a loveseat-sized sofa bed.  I guess I should have thought of that myself.  Anyway, my dear friend, Vicki, shopped for one for me ( you know how I would have hated to do that myself) and picked one out today.  I've given them my information, and it's to be delivered in about three weeks.  Painless, except when the credit card bill comes.  LOL

Mary. I changed to a love size in my living room and now wish I had bought a sofa bed. I don't get many people staying over anymore and my extra bedroom has just a twin bed. Last time there were 4 coming but cancelled because of daughter car wreck. They won't come in winter.

Insurance companies seem to now just work together if damage comes from other than your property. My last claim came from a big limb  falling off tree next door onto my patio roof. Check cam from my ins.

Jeanne, you're right - for my car wreck, I was reimbursed by my insurance company, but they'll get reimbursed by the other guy's company.

I waited yesterday for a call from the breast dr. , the dr. said she wouldn't be in the office on Wednesday so maybe the office was closed . I called this morning & have a consultation  Monday morning .

jane

Good!  I'm glad they got you in quickly, Alpiner.

We had a great lunch yesterday with Ia-Tx friends and got caught up with them.

Quiet day here today...it's suppose to be in 90s.  Too hot to be outside for me.  Yesterday got to 87 and that was miserable outside.

jane

maryz

Glad you've gotten the appointment, alpiner!

jane, sorry about your heat.  It's glorious here today - I sat on the deck to read my paper.  Now (12:45), it's 69*.  Over the weekend, when it's in the high 80s, I won't be outside.  ;)

jane

Mary....87 here now and a hot, dry wind blowing all the allergens around!  Inside I am.

I did make a run to the grocery story and to WalMart and did one load of laundry....but that's it for today.

Time to sit back in the AC and read.

JeanneP

It is 89 deg here also.  Just ran to the library and pickup up 4 movies. Weekend going to be just as hot. Be a quiet weekend. Lots of things going on in Town but will skip them.

Did a stupid thing today. Made that Beef, potato cabbage casserole. Covered the dish with Siran wrap and put in the MW for 5 min while the over heated. I then just moved it to the oven leaving the wrap on. At a little of the under part but tossed the rest out. Thing was I made in in 2 dishes and so the other one is O.K for baking later.

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been up for a while, fixed and ate breakfast, and had a good morning walk before it gets too hot.  We're expecting high80's, low 90's today.  That'll be hot for the football fans who are already starting to tailgate over at the stadium.  My neighbors with the 2 pretty little pre-school girls were loading up their truck to go over to the stadium with their tail gate stuff.

I need to pick up more limbs this morning and put them out on the curb.  Lots of little ones all over the yard.  I think I have finished the biggest limbs and have them all down at the curb.

I have to make phone calls this morning for next week's Thursday bridge game which will be here at my house.  Other than that and football games, not much else going on here today.

Sue

jane

Same here, Sue...a few tiny drops of rain, and body says there should be a lot more!

It's too hot to walk outside already for me...in high 80s.

Today is the River Runner Regatta....cardboard boat races through the White Water Park run.  There's not much water in the river since we've been 7 weeks without rain...so I don't know how it'll be.  It starts at 2:00 after a Yellow Duck Dash "race" at noon.  We'll probably go down later this afternoon for a bit.

Otherwise, it's a slug day and lots of football and reading.

jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm dressed for SS and church and am waiting for Olyne to pick me up in about 30 minutes.

Yesterday after lunch I spent several hours picking up downed limbs all over my back yard and put them on the curb.  I finished in time to watch football games and enjoyed most, except South Carolina lost--yuck!

I need to go watch for Olyne.  I'll probably be back later today.  I hope all are well and not inundated with rain or other weather problems.

Sue

Morning!  After a hot, humid day yesterday, it's delightfully cool here this morning.  We also had thunderstorms overnight, so that's a good thing too.

Nothing planned for today, other than to take some stuffed mushrooms down to our friends/neighbors this afternoon.  Both are sick after their Columbia River trip...smoke was so bad they couldn't even see the banks of the river at times and she couldn't get off to visit any of the towns because of the heavy smoke.

jane

We were along the Columbia Gorge a few days before the fire . My cousin posted pictures of before & after the fire on facebook . Only a bit of small vegetation was burned in the Klamath Falls area .

Not so Good Morning here, Buddies.  Last night before I went to bed I checked my alternate e-mail--the one I reserve for junk mail and some business notifications.  To my horror I had a Fraud Alert from my bank--and I need to get down there ASAP to see about it.  A few weeks ago I sent a request for new checks, haven't received them and think someone must have taken them from my mail box.  This is on top of the $2500 I just paid to a tree service to cut down my neighbor's tree which fell on MY roof!  Keep your fingers crossed for a solution.

Sue

so_P_bubble

Are you sure it is really from your bank? You checked?

jane

Sue....yes, go directly to the bank.  It may be a scam thing and not connected to your bank at all.

Our nephew found out that in MN, that even a neighbor's tree falling on your property is your problem, not the neighbor's.  I don't quite understand that, but that's what they were told, too.

I hope you got good answers and your insurance will reimburse you promptly.  I'm glad Tim took pictures, too. Those always help.

Alpiner...good luck with your doctor appointment this morning.  We're thinking of you.

Sharon...safe trip back home after your reunion.

Jeanne....cool morning her...but back to 80s by tomorrow.  I sure hope we get rain soon.

Good morning to Mary, Joy, Darlene, GinnyAnn, Marilyn, and anybody else reading here.

The water softener salt people are to deliver here at 10:00. Ray's gone off to golf, and I'm having a lot of fun doing the neverending laundry!   :buck2:

jane

jane

Bubble...I'm thinking that it is a scam, too, so glad she's going right to the bank.

Hi Gals. I got home yesterday afternoon, but was so tired after I unpacked, I didn't  log in.  I had a wonderful time and am very glad I went. Using a wheelchair makes airflight a cinch. The bus from Chicago to Indy was great also. Had a woman seatmate from Cincinnati who was a little younger than I, but we still had lots in common and chatted the whole way. Really made the trip go fast.

Lori's loft/condo is beautiful. She did a wondeful job on it.  On Monday, she took me to the Chicago Art INstitute and pushed me around in a wheelchair since it is much too big for me to navigate.  I love the museum and was very happy with my art fix.  We had lunch at their restaurant there.  Tues. Lori came down with a cold and I was ready to rest anyway. Wed, her friends were supposed to come for dinner but backed out when they heard she had a cold.  Lori had also decided to celebrate my birthday while I was there (a month early). Melanie sent flowers and Lori gave me an Echo. I'm sure most of you know what that is. Alexa is the name of the responder in it.  It had never been on my wish list, but may be fun to play with.

The reunion was lots of fun. My friend from Fla who was in Germany when Irma hit had to fly into Indy instead of Orlando to pick up her husband and drive up, but he was okay and she was able to enjoy the reunion. My friend from WA state was there in spite of multiple health problems. The 2 Indpls girls were also there and I stayed with one of them.  I couldn't recognize most of my classmates without looking at the name tags, but it was still fun to reconnect.  Two of my sorority sisters were there. One I am in contact with on FB, but the other I hadn't seen in 20 years.  All of the activities were great--boat cruise, country-club dinner, brunch at our old swim club which is still in operation.  I skipped the Sat noon box lunch and tour of the HS in order to take 2 of my grandsons, one's almost fiance, and my ggs, Leyton out to lunch. They picked me up at my friend's house, went to the Cheesecake Factory, and to the mall and had a lovely visit.  After the brunch yesterday, my friend took me to the airport as I had a 1:30 flight home.  No problems.

Alpiner, I'm sorry they found 2 malignant spots. I ditto all the other advice.  Get them out quickly while they are small.  Mine was rather large, so I had a lumpectomy, chemo, & radiation followed by Femara, an estrogen blocker. That was 16 years ago and so far so good! :)

Sue, I'm so  sorry your house got hit by the tree, but it sounds like you are getting it all taken care of.  We had no problems at all here.  Only 2.5" of rain in Charlotte. Some small branches and leaves blown down, but not much.

Marilyn, I'm so glad your smoke has cleared--at least for a day or so. I hope that means it's contained. All the places you mentioned in N/SC were spared any effects of Irma.

Jane, how sad that your friends paid for that great raft trip and didn't get to enjoy it and are still suffering.

Mary, I'm sorry you gs in Charleston is going through the flooding again.  How about the GD in Annapolis with Jose? Hope they're okay.

It's in the low 80's here but sunny.  Hi to Jeanne & Ginny & Darlene. All for now. Sharon

I saw the beast cancer dr. this morning . I misunderstood the dr , there is only one malignant spot!  It is about 2 centimeters . I'm waiting for a call to set up an appt. for an MRI , its been approved by our insurance . I will have a lumpectomy & radiation using a cone & the dr. mentioned me taking a little pill . She said its an estrogen blocker .
My husband went with me into the examining room , glad he was there . I almost broke down , my eyes were tearing & I tried hard to hold myself together . He said " you are scared aren't you ?" I sure was . I can't talk to our daughter about this . Her husband's son  has been diagnosed with mouth cancer & she is easy upset ( her youngest son died 4 years ago & her other son died this summer ) . She has too many worries herself . This might push her over the edge .
Thank you ladies for being here for me .

jane

Alpiner....it sounds as if you have a good doc and the one pill is probably something like Sharon mentioned...Femara.  Many of us took another one...Tamoxifen, but it's been replaced, I guess, by several new ones.  I'm glad you have an appt to get this taken care of.

jane

My dr. wants  certain dr.s to do the MRI & our insurance wants another , she said she will insist !
She thinks their dr.s & equipment are better .

A friend had this procedure about a year ago .  I asked her about hers & she told me what to expect .  I feel better now that I know what to expect .

maryz

Sharon, glad you had such a good time at your reunion.  And also that you didn't get any damage from Irma.  I haven't heard anything from our Annapolis grands about what they expect from Jose.

Sue, I agree with the others - your bank e-mail sounds like a scam. What did your bank say?

alpiner, it sounds like you're getting good care and good advice.  I'm glad your husband was so wonderfully supportive of you - that's so important.  We always seem to be able to deal with facts - it's the uncertainties that are so difficult.  We're with you all the way!

It's been really quiet around here.  We did have a birthday party after swimming for one our group.  She's just turned 90! And she is very faithful about coming to class.  We all sort of wish she weren't still driving  ;), but she's a role model in any case.  I finally got back to duplicate this evening.  My partner and I tied for second - Wow!

Hugs and Happy Monday to all the Buddies!

Fog in the air here this morning.

I'm not sure what we're doing today....

Have a good Tuesday!

Jane

SharonE

Alpiner, it sounds like you're getting good care and support from both the doctor & your husband.   In such a situation that's all we can ask for.  I'm so sorry for your daughter's loss and understand your reluctance to tell her anything. However, if she is like my daughters, she will be upset you didn't tell her. That depends on her personality and like you say, she has had enough to deal with.  Just remember we're all here for you to vent or ask questions or whatever. It does help.

Mary, congrats on the 2nd in duplicate!! Woo Hoo! According to the forecast last night, Jose is going to fizzle out out in the ocean and not impact land.  Just some rip tides, etc.  Now we have to worry about Maria!  However, early forecast is that she, too, will head out North into the ocean and not affect us.  We'll see.

I just got home at 10:00 from getting my gall bladder test. Won't know anything until tomorrow or day after. I had to be there at 6:45!  Couldn't eat. Nearly froze to death in radiology, but he did get the IV in on the first try! Yea!

I get to go see the Ortho surgeon tomorrow.  I have such a fun life!!

Jane, supposed to be 87, I think, here today & sunny. Chance of rain tomorrow.

Hi to all. Sharon

maryz

Sharon - had to laugh at your doctor visits (although I know they're not funny).  Isn't it what we all do, though???  Good luck on all of them.  I saw the orthopedist this morning - all looks okay on x-rays.  Exercise more and lose weight - usual stuff.  Except - he's going to retire at the end of October. He made some recommendations for a new doc, gave me all my x-rays, and will send copies of his office notes if requested.  I still see a rheumatologist, so I guess I'll hold off on starting with a new orthopedist for a while. We'll see how that works out.

I checked with the Maryland grands - they're expecting only some slightly higher tides from Jose, but that's not unusual for Annapolis.  So all okay from that department.

Nothing else exciting going on around here.  jane, how did the cardboard race go on your river last week?

Happy Tuesday, Buddies

Good morning, Buddies.  Tim took care of my e-mails from the bank and cleaned up some other stuff on my computer, so I'm OK at least for now.  I had some problems with my ATT online service, but Tim called them and they said that there was a problem with storm damage in Birmingham which put service out for a while, also my telephones, but all's well now.

It's a lovely day here.  I've been out to walk and have read the paper, have a load of wash in and am ready to make Swedish Oatmeal cookies.  I have bridge here on Thursday.  Also am waiting for a call back from Sara who plays in my Wednesday group to see if she can sub on Thursday.  Bonney's son who lives in North Carolina will be here Thursday and she can't play.

I've cleaned up most of the downed limbs from all the trees in my yard.  Tim will cut some branches in the back yard when he has time, so I'm pretty much fixed now--just waiting on the insurance adjuster.  USAA tells me it'll be a while as all of their adjusters are still in Florida.

I need to get busy in the kitchen.  Have a nice day, Buddies.
