Hi everyone. It is another beautiful and sunny Sunday morning here in South Carolina and our temperatures are only to get to the mid-80's today.  I expect this to be our typical Sunday except we will not go out to lunch after Sunday School and Church.  We have some left-overs in the refrigerator that need to be eaten so will just come home and have lunch.  After resting awhile this afternoon I will probably watch a little football and keep my eye on the golf match.

Mary Ann, we will be having the remainder of the BBQ pork I had on my plate at the BBQ barn.  I could only eat about half of it and the remainder will make a sandwich for both Pat and I to so with the soup Pat made a couple of days ago.  I knew what you were saying about "nothing in my head" but my sense of humor kicks in occasionally and I have to tease a bit.  It sounds like you had a nice outing with Tom yesterday.

Marilyne, do you know what caused the paralyzed vocal cord?  I would be in bad shape if I couldn't talk. Your weekends sound like a good time to stay away from the malls and other stores.

Joan, I am looking forward to a few days in the 70's.  We are having mornings now that start out in the 60's and then most of the morning is in the 70's but by noon it gets into the 80's.  Glad you are getting temperatures you can enjoy.

Patricia, I never knew that about birds gathering like that for the winter.  Do those birds winter in your area?  Too bad about the mix up on your food boxes. Was there a problem about people taking boxes of food and not delivering them where they were suppose to go?  People would certainly have no reason to be mad at you as it wasn't your policy nor your responsibility to see that they had taken the proper actions. It sounds like some of the folks are really not independent living capable anymore.  I need to do what you do as well as sometimes go through my emails and delete any over a year old with a few exceptions.  I seldom refer back to anything in the emails so am not sure why I keep a lot of them as don't even remember receiving most of them.  No suggestions as how to spend your time when your decluttering is through but bet you will find something worthwhile that you enjoy doing. We are very aware of the changing of the seasons with the hours of daylight growing less.  This morning it must have been 7:30 before it became light outside and it is getting darker much sooner in the evenings.  I just have no memory of the winds in Anchorage.  I sure remember that the wind always blew in Oklahoma that years we lived there before going to Alaska.

Joy

Good Sunday morning.  It is another beautiful sunny morning here in Central Maryland.  The temperature is supposed to be up in the 80's again today, but, sadly, by the end of the week,  Fall will be showing up.

My son has a big family/friends party next weekend, so even tho it will be a little cooler, we are hoping that the hurricane, Maria, will be far out to sea by that time.  He has been having this party for a long time now, and has really been lucky with the weather.  Even tho, in different years, there seems to have been the threat of a hurricane bringing bad weather,  it hasn't been bad enough to cancel the party. So, we are hoping for a nice sunny day.  Lots of good food and fun and a chance to catch up with friends and family we don't get to see a lot.

Larry, you asked me about whether I stay in the laundry room or not.  Fortunately, the laundry room is right across the hall from my apartment, so I can put the clothes in the washer and set my timer and come back to my place.  Sometimes, I will go back before the timer goes off, and just sit there for a few minutes and wait.  It does make it convenient.  I usually wait until late afternoon to go over, as it seems most people on my floor tend to do their laundry in the morning.  So, usually I will have the room all to myself.  it is not a job that I particularly like, but one of those jobs that you have to do.  At those times, is when I really miss my condo, where I had my own washer and dryer.  But, life changes and you just have to adjust to those changes.

Nothing special going on today.   The Baltimore Ravens are playing their weekly football game in London today.  I think they are playing the team from Jacksonville, FL.   Not sure the reason for this big event.  Our TV stations this morning have been having lots of remotes from London promoting this game.  Many Raven fans have traveled over there for the game.  And, lots of restaurants in the area have been advertising special breakfasts to watch the game.  With the time change, I think the game starts here at 9:30 a.m.  I heard one comment made that it was too early to get up to watch a football game.  I will probably have it on, more to just listen.

I am not a morning person, so it will probably be hard for me not to grab a short nap during the game.  Just another Sunday with nothing else special going on.

Hope everyone will have a nice Sunday.

Good morning to everyone. :).

No message from Mary Ann, yet this morning.  She's probably enjoying breakfast at the Cholesterol Pit,
about now? I'm looking forward to seeing what she and Dot, shared for their Sunday meal?

joan - It's still cool and comfortable here, but supposed to start warming up again today, and by the end of  the week it'll be back in the 90's again! That's typical for California, as you probably remember.

Joy - good to see you here this morning.  I enjoy reading your messages . . . they're always long and interesting.  My son and family, are the same way when it comes to parties.  They have lots of parties for different holidays, birthdays and other events over the course of the year.  It's usually a mixed group of friends, family and neighbors . . . all ages, and lots of fun.

Patricia -  your messages are also full of interesting stuff as well! Thanks to you Patricia, I've learned more about Alaska, in the past couple of years, than I have in my whole lifetime.  We always wanted to take one e of those Alaskan cruises, but never did.  As I've mentioned before, I really enjoy watching the show called "Buying Alaska", that is available on HGTV.  It's not a show in their regular channel lineup, but is available On Demand.

Larry - My paralyzed vocal cord was diagnosed last December, so it's been almost a year already.  The ENT doc said that he see's it often in seniors.  Fortunately, we all have two vocal cords, and in my case, only one has stopped working, so the other one does all the "talking", which sounds very weak and strained.  By the end of every day, that one cord is exhausted, I'm pretty much finished with conversation. It's very quiet around here in the evening! ha ha!  Some days are better than others . . . I don't know why that is?

Mary Ann

I'm here, Marilyn.  I had a different morning, waking about 3 am, so got up and read the computer for a while, then went back to bed until 8:30 when I had to get up to get ready for church.  I didn't post at those times, didn't want to scare anyone with my being up so early.  When I got up at 8:30 am, Kendrick was on my bed and decided he wanted to be covered up.  This meant he wanted to be under the blanket, so I lifted the edge of the blanket and he went in and laid down and was there while I got ready for the day.  I think he got out of the blanket before I left for church.  The cat does not get between the sheets with me!

Dot and I went to church, then to the Cholesterol Pit afterward.  Today we each had a burger - mine was a regular hamburger and Dot's was an olive burger.  The place was crowded, but we are getting there later now with the time change of services.

I feel the need for a nap, but I am sure I'll watch golf today.  Sunday is always more interesting because it's the last day and there must be a winner.  The golfers do all right financially.

My computer is in the sun and it's hard to read and/or type, so I'll return later.

My Desktop is getting so old now that I don't even bother what hits it. I just have the MS Security on it. Never had to many problems but notice it is slower. Don't do a lot on it anymore.  Just E-M and very few of those. Search Google and just check up on travel info etc. Buy on line for Amazon. once in while.  Nothing a big secret. Never was into putting bank or business info on anything. Can't even talk to Dr. office anymore. Have to Text. Same with banks.
Newspaper this morning saying that Thieves are likely to now have Data on most peoples personal data. Can pick up the SS numbers from the day that a baby in registered. You take out loan or make investment. Picked up right away. I don't know why the common person is so excited about getting phones so can do everything. This Apple 10 is amazing and by next year will be doing more. Those phone I don't need. Could get by with a old mother Bell hanging on my wall for what I do on them. Technology use to be fun for most of us but not anymore. What will come now after TEXTing. People will not be talking to each other. I still miss the old EMailing. Fact miss the Snail mail.   Must be getting old. Never know where family are anymore.
Just look at how the forums like S and F and before was Seniornet. was. We had hundreds on even putting messages in. Still see some on the Facebook (Not the best forum).

Good morning from a bright, rainless, Interior day. The skies are a mix of clouds and pale washed out blue that passes for a winter sky here. There are very few yellow furled leaves on the birch directly before my balcony so Farrah has a ringside seat to any avian acrobatics.

I had a bad night, up until 4:40 last time check so slept in until 8:34 this morning. Now I'm up, turned on the plant light for my elephant's ear palm that's situated just under the 8' ceiling and as blocked as I can make it from Farrah. I've caught her eyeing it a time or two and then checking out the surrounding area so I make sure all of the shelves are full around their edges. I had originally donated it to the entryway bordering the main security, mail room and the area outside the offices. It wasn't doing well and our resident plant guru said it was in too big a pot, so roots spread out instead of growing up. It had a large sign taped to the pot saying DO NOT TAKE as out of the nine I donated, this was all that was left.

I bought it back, purchased a smaller pot, replanted and reaffixed the sign before returning it to the entryway. A day or two later, I noticed the sign was completely gone. No evidence around the plant and bookshelf nor in the trash. I guess they thought a different pot made it free? Someone had also been snipping at it with scissors as they were straight cuts. I can only imagine they thought they were getting cuttings altho how they expected to do that with a palm, I can't imagine! Anyway, that is how it returned to my apartment. It's 11:15 AM and I'm already on my second cup of coffee. I think today is going to be a day of rest physically for me.

Larry, the smaller birds stay in the woods and meadows in specie specific flocks during the summer. In the spring and in the fall, there are huge winter flocks of multispecies that congregate in town for safety from owls, ravens and some remaining hawks. We, Farrah and I with our balcony only a block from a river, and surrounded by firs, blue spruce, and paper birch are a premium spot for viewing.

The Interior and further north in Alaska serves as breeding grounds for an estimated 85% of the world's birds. Charles Creamer had a dairy farm that each year hosted thousands of migrating birds either stopping to breed or to rest and eat before flying further north. He deeded his land after death to the state for a sanctuary for the birds and other wildlife in perpetuity. A very small portion of the 2700 acres is available to the public in fenced off front viewing areas and three trails going a mile or so into the woods in the city limits. I think most of these small birds summer in the sanctuary.

The problem with the food boxes was that people didn't answer their doors, expecting the boxes to be left unmolested in the hallways. Also, many folks didn't fill out their paperwork and get it in on time. And those of us that volunteered had to be the ones who "forgot" to tell them. Even tho as I said, numerous attempts by the office, the volunteers, and the various agencies each verbally reminded them, sent personal letters, placed notes on all bulletin boards, and reminded all personal care attendants to tell their charges of the changes.

These bimonthly deliveries are a service. Otherwise, they would need to go to the various distribution sites, offices or churches to pick up and bring their boxes from various agencies home, providing their own transportation. The Salvation Army volunteers provide a service, bringing the various agencies food boxes to each senior building or different agency homes. They don't have to do that and only stay in the first floor common room. You had to sign for your box and take it to your own apartment. Attendants were supposed to gather the ones for the housebound and bedridden. That didn't work so they asked for volunteers to take them from the first floor around to the apartments. Attendants were no longer allowed to pick up their client's boxes. Folks got lazy and felt entitled I suppose.

The way each of the five hallways is set up in this building as there are two very long hallways with two smaller halls branching off at each end by the stairways. In the center of the two halls are a common room, two elevators and a small laundry room with two machines. There is also a paper recycling spot and a gate in the wall for your trash, (One of my favorite building features!). There are several fire doors and air intake stations in the center area as well as along the hallways every few feet. There is also a stairway at the end of each hallway.

The main floor common or social room has a kitchen with 24/7 coffee, juice, and baked goods, plus a daily $2.00 lunch; a room combining mailboxes and security offices and then managers' offices, the residence advocate offices, staff bathrooms and lounges for housekeeping and maintenance, along with four monitored, keyed entries with one leading to an enclosed, locked dog park. The building and grounds take up a full block. And this is only one of seven buildings belonging to this particular company. The housekeeping and maintenance rotate among all seven while security, advocates, and managers are based in each particular building.

Marilyne, I'm glad you enjoy my rambles. I also enjoy reading various posts here and love hearing about other areas and customs. Sports, however, are not my thing as I am more into graphics and photography.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I'm sorry to hear you had a bad night so I hope tonight is better.

One thing I appreciate about the long posts by so many is the ability to learn about those posters, also about their vicinities and their animals if they have any.  Also their likes and dislikes.

I am not a sports fan as such; I used to be a BIG baseball fan, I can watch football and basketball but I don't, and the reason I took to golf is there was nothing on TV that I wanted to watch plus the fact there are fewer computer posts.  I am watching golf now.  I have learned a lot about golf just by watching the players, how they study the layout.

Tom just called that he was driving for Uber and had a fare to Chicago.  That will put a good amount in his checking account but the bad part is he has to drive home alone - about 200 miles.  He does not mind as he loves to drive.

Mary Ann

Lots of boats and people at Grand Haven.  Temperature there is 80 degrees, here it is over 90 degrees.

Mary Ann,  I hadn't looked at the lake for a while  and just now went to look after reading your message.   It is a shame that those trees have gotten so big that they block most of the beach and the water now.   Still people in the water and on the beach and boats going in and out the channel.

It  was almost 90 º here in Central Maryland today, also.   I just came in from sitting outside for a while and it was really nice with a nice breeze.  We won't be having many more days like this for too much longer.  I just hate to think of winter time coming.

Joy, it is 36 degrees here now at 1:55 PM.

MaryAnn, perhaps he could pick up a fare for a portion of the way back? I used to go and watch friends and family play basketball, soccer or softball, stock car racing and sometimes hockey or ice skating. But kids grew up and out and their parents slowed down and those seats suddenly became a lot harder for any but short periods so that's gone by the wayside.

Everyone in my family was or is into golf. I am the only one not inclined. I always equated golf and bowling programs no doubt because of the announcers whispering? Of course, there is the fact that I don't have a TV and few television programs are offered for free on the computer anymore. I have looked at Netflix and Hulu on their free trials but just was never interested. You can still get many news reports, talk shows and late night shows on YouTube subscriptions but I rarely even watch those.

You may laugh at the news that Dora has just offered me free taxi service for six months if I come and declutter her house. They have a full basement and two floors plus a two car garage and a shed! And I was actually considering it until I wised up and said no.  ::) They also just spent $349.00 on a complicated cat furniture slash tree so they can afford professional organizing help.

Farrah is never going to be a lap cat and she is never going to be a playful, affectionate cat. However, she has taken to occasionally coming over and leaning against me at times and while never meowing, she is increasingly verbal. The last couple of days, she has often come close to me, sat and sharply called "erna!" Is this a demand for treats or play? It's a new development. I am the slow one who simply doesn't quickly pick up on what she is trying to tell me.

She is always in the room with me and figures if I am in the bathroom that means I am in the perfect spot for some petting and back rubs. This morning she did her usual jump on the bed, stroll around me a few times and then leave when I didn't immediately jump up to serve her breakfast. The second attempt, I crab-walked my fingers slowly towards her and instead of taking off, she purred and dropped onto her belly to await a play attack!

She often will suddenly cry out and flop down on her side in front of me. Lest you're inclined to think she has taken a spell, this is her way to let me know she wants a good rubdown. You lean down and with your thumb on her stomach and four fingers on her back, rub firmly up and out while she stretches out for the full effect. Alan attempted this with his cats and Bonnie bit him! Apparently, it is personal preference?

According to her chip's paperwork, she turned five on the twelfth of this month and is considered in her prime according to the charts. And she is firmly aware of this!  ::) So different from all those months spent under the bed and keeping an eye on me from afar!

wjoan

Mary Ann, I have tried on numerous occasions to view that CAM you are so fond of.  Every time I do, all I ever see is water.  Not sure why that is but never see people or boats.

Mary Ann

Joan, I was thinking the time difference might be the reason you don't see anything on Lake Michigan, but unless it would be early morning, that would not be the case.  Today being Sunday and hot is why there was so much traffic.  It could be you don't know what you are looking for (not trying to be insulting!), but at the channel between the two piers, if you see something white moving in either direction, those would be boats.  During the week there is not much traffic because of kids being in school.  I'll see what I can find now and try to send you a picture, but don't hold your breath; if there is nothing there, no e-mail.

Patricia, it seems Farrah has some of the same characteristics as Kendrick.  He is not a lap cat but he seems to want to be wherever I am.  I can't play with him and he has very few toys.  At present he does have three scratch pads (don't know why!) and the first thing he does when he goes to the living area is go to one of the pads.  It is not unusual to find him sleeping in one of them.  He comes to check on me at least twice during the night, will lie down beside me for about five minutes, then leave.  He does not mind when I hold his tail and I don't pull on it.

Reading all of the preparation for your foods, I find I would not have the patience to do what you do.  I'm not sure I would have when I was your age.  I cooked out of necessity, but I did like to bake cakes and cookies from scratch until box mixes became more popular.

Mary Ann

wjoan

Mary Ann. do not see TWO piers, just one long one.  I have tried at various times but never find anything but water.  LOL

Mary Ann

Joan, actually there are two piers but the angle of the camera doesn't show it that way.  There is a channel between the piers and that is where the boats go in and out to and from Spring Lake and several marinas.  If you noticed three lighthouse, the smaller white one is on the far pier (north) and at the end of the south pier is a building which also is a lighthouse.  In the middle of the south pier is the big red lighthouse.

Keep on trying, but during the week, hot weather or not, there is not the activity there is during the weekends.  People camp in tents or RVs close to the lake.  We used to drive to Grand Haven when Norm and I were young and we could park along the beach and we'd sit on the sand and have a picnic.  We never had trouble finding a parking place, but today, you have to have a permit to get to that area and parking spaces are at a premium.

Good morning. It is going to be another hot day today, getting up to 88 degrees. There is nothing special on my agenda except to continue to move furniture around.

I recently switched to FIOS from Comcast which necessitated moving the cat's furniture to another location, which in turn meant I had to move a bookshelf which displaced a desk which is going to displace something else, most probably two small bookshelves, and so on. This is what happens when you have limited outlets and wall space do to steam radiators and lots of oversized windows.

I am surprised that the cats are not too upset by the moves. It remains to be seen whether or not they accept where I put their furniture. Even I must get used to the rearrangements.

larryhanna

Hi everyone. The forecast is for partly cloudy all day long with a high in the upper 80's.  I expect to enjoy a very quiet day as have nothing on my calendar.  I am sure I will find something to keep me busy today.  We enjoyed attending our Sunday School class yesterday and then had a fine Church service.

I was very saddened yesterday evening when I read of the man attacking the church service in Nashville, killing one and injuring several others.

Joy, it is looking like Maria will have some impact on the coast line areas to the NE. I do hope your son's party will still be able to continue. Your laundry is almost like having the equipment in your apartment.  You are so right that we do have to make adjustments as our life situation changes from time to time.  It sort of staggers my imagination that fans of a football team would actually fly out of the country to watch a game they could see on TV.

Marilyne, thanks for the info on your vocal cord situation.  Glad you have only one paralyzed.  Maybe a weakening of the cords is why older people speak softer or the tenor of their voice changes over time.

Mary Ann, that was really an interesting day of golf yesterday. There is a very rich young man now after winning the $10 million dollars for the Fed EX Cup and the other young man that won the tournament also had his bank account fattened with I heard over two million dollars.  I hope Tom had a good trip to Chicago.

JeanneP, have you seen the ads that we will be issued new Social Security number in 2018?  I detect from your comments that you are not a person who enjoy all the technology that computers allow us to have available.  :)

Patricia, it was nice to read that you apparently had a bright and rainless day yesterday.  You had quite an experience with your plant and trying to share it.  I guess birds know a good thing when they see it in terms of where to live and congregate.  Too bad the food box situation has deteriorated over time.  You have quite a complex building with many services available. It sure is getting chilly up your way and very close to freezing.  Farrah has certainly come a long way since you got her.  She obviously brings a lot of joy into your life.

MarsGal, it sounds like your weather will be much like ours temperature wise.

Carol

Fall is here.  It has been snowing in the high country and temp is into the 40's this morning.  That is very normal and probably a bit late this year.

I heard a noise last night and had to get up and check everything in the house.  This is something I have done for years since Don traveled so often and I would wake and get up to check the 4 children, and go all over the house. We had a stray dog, we named Spike, for years he would be my point guard.  I sure wish we could have another dog but all the stairs to get out doors to the back yard plus coyotes living in the ravine in back - it just would never work.  Instead, I go to the children's homes and pet the dogs.  It is enough!

Speaking of talking softly, we visited my 102 year young auntie in Minnesota this year.  Her daughter asked if she wanted to go fishing and Auntie said, "no, I would rather go dancing". She spoke so softly, Don couldn't hear anything but we all thought that was such a cute thing to say.

Larry, we are not being issued new social security numbers in 2018.  We are being issued new Medicare cards with a new number.  It shouldn’t have any affect on our SSN for other uses.

“The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced it is preparing to issue Medicare cards that will use new unique numbers in place of cardholder SSNs. CMS said it would begin mailing new cards to beneficiaries in April 2018.”

Mary Ann

Thanks, Jean, I had wondered how that would work.  I'm happy I don't have to learn a new SS number.

We're going to have another hot one today, up in the 90s.  We're used to temps in the 80s, but not the 90s.  Later in the week, we'll drop into the 70s, also a comfortable range.

I have plenty to do, but will I get at any of it???

Mary Ann

wjoan

Our weather remains the same; 50's at night and 70's during the day.  Darn good sleeping weather IMHO.  LOL

Marilyne

joan, looks like you're weather is cooling down and staying that way.  We were in the 70's the past couple of days, but expected to go into the 80's today, and then the 90's by the end of the week.  I'm so tired of it, but I know I'll get tired of the really cold weather, once it arrives.

Jean, thank you!  I had a moment of panic, thinking we would all get new SS numbers. That would be an impossible task for the government, I would think.  Good idea to get new Medicare cards and numbers.  My card is paper, and is very ragged and worn out.  The new ones will probably be plastic.

Not a great weekend here.  I was suffering from what we used to call an upset stomach. Now much more specific names used, but still the same old misery. I really takes a toll on you when you're older.  I'm much better this morning, but feel like I've lost about five pounds.

Larry. No. I have always enjoyed technology and been using it for 30 years. I got the first Compaq computer that came of the line when it came out. (GS was one of the founders of Compaq.  ) That was before there had  the Internet. Email, Google all the stuff that is done on them now.
It is just that now it has gone to far for me. Not that can't learn but just that it has made thing so complicated. Even the phones. Now they don't want to talk, Want to read a text. Can't get through to any businesses by getting one person on the line. It is push button  for this push for that.
My Medical centre take 20 min just to get in and them not a human. Have to use buttons.  We all have to go into their Program on computer. In a way that is good because they dont tell you much in you appointment. they are typing it in a computer and then you can come home. Get into 'My account" and read everything . I asked what older people do that don't use a computer. They have to request a copy of their records be sent within 30 days.  I also think that men find computers more exciting than women. All my GS. SIL. in the business and its like their brains have a built in computer and now the little ones are getting as bad.  Sure keep them quiet in cars though.  They know nothing about what it was like 30 years ago.  All have phone glued to their fingers I think

Hi everyone.  We are headed back into the low 90's for today. Our Senior Adult Monthly luncheons resume today after the summer break.  Our speaker today is a lady involved with the rescue dogs and I understand we will be having several of those dogs also in attendance.  If the menu is the same as we had last year we will be having soup and a sandwich for our lunch.  I can't remember whether there is a dessert served or not but we can always have an apple or banana to take home.  That is all that is on the schedule for today.

Carol, unexpected noises in our homes are not comfortable sounds.  I bet your auntie was very happy to see you.  A lady that sits in front of us most Sundays at Church is now 102 years old and there are two ladies that sit at our table on Wednesday evening dinners that are 96 and 97.

FlaJean, thanks for setting the record straight on the Social Security card situation.  I guess I had a senior moment.  I hope I didn't confuse anyone with the wrong information.  I haven't carried my Medicare card with me for several years due to it having my Social Security number on it.

Mary Ann, you had a hotter day yesterday than we did.  It was very nice here yesterday but back up there today.

Joan, I would love to have some 70 days here but it shouldn't be long now that we will have such days.  I think this will be my last week to wear short sleeved shirts as I am pretty sensitive to the cold.

Marilyne, sorry about the confusion I caused on the SSN and glad that Jean set the record straight.  I hope today find you feeling much better.  That upset stomach is never pleasant.

Patricia, cold and rainy days like you had yesterday are good ones to be able to stay inside.

Jeanne, you did get started with computer early.  I remember the first portable computer we had at work and I took it home only one night.  The think weighed a lot.  I started out with the Atari 400 and then got an Atari 800 and was amazed.  I often wonder where will we be with technology even in the next five years as things are changing so quickly.  I have reached the point in life where I just want my electronics to work right.  You are right about things being so complicated.  I agree about trying to reach businesses on the phone.  I tried to get through to the Service Desk at Costco recently and found no way on the phone.  Most of our doctors are a part of the University Hospital system and on check out they give us a report from our visit with upcoming appointments and our medicines listed and information about the results of our visit.

Larry, my first computer was a Tandy 1000 and I started my family on computing; that was in 1986 the year I retired.  I bought the computer, monitor and printer for about $2500 which was reasonable then.  I have no idea how many computers I've had since.  I still have my Windows 98 and that still works.  It uses the 3 1/2-inch floppies, has the CD drive (but does not record) and has a larger-than-the-floppy drive (I can't remember the name but it has a larger capacity than a floppy).  The computer I use now is a Windows 10 but I use Firefox on it.  I've had this computer a few years and my printer is not compatible with it and I have to use an older laptop to print, or send it to Tom to print.  I know printers don't cost much but I fail to see why one becomes obsolete just because I get a new computer.

When I have a doctor's visit, I also get a printout of the visit.  It's nice that I don't have to remember everything that was told to me or take notes.

We are to have a warm one today, back in the high 80s or low 90s, then the cold front is to pass and we'll be in the 70s.  Much more livable.

The name of the drive I could not remember is a Zip drive.  The disk is a bit larger than the 3-1/2-inch floppy and holds a lot more memory - maybe 500 mb.  The disks are also thicker than the floppy.

At nearly 10:30 am I see our temperature is 74 degrees already.

Carol

wjoan:  Don is from Duluth, MN and I grew up in Seattle so we both like cool nights - not as cold as Don ever experienced.  The cool nights for you should help in the fire situation which I have not heard about lately.  We did experience smoke from you and Montana.  It has been quite some year for that problem.

We had one of first computers at our house and I had to find a table for it and no one knew what we were talking about.  Don worked for Control Data and they sent us to Texas  - the kids and us played games and played them with others overseas. I wrote a lot of classwork on it and at night we had neighbor kids crowding around the table.

There are two things in life that take longer now. First, just try to leave a message with the doctor's office.  Second, using the chip in the credit card takes  too long.

And, I did not even mention the drive to anywhere in this mega city now.

Larry, I have been wearing sweatshirts now for over a week..  Not complaining however.  LOL

Carol, we have a system here, and I know other hospitals have it, or something similar, where I can sign in to MyHealth and a list comes up as to leaving a message, and to whom), results of tests, etc.  If I check on leaving a message, I write my message, send it and before the day is over I get a call from my doctor's nurse as to my problem.  Usually we make arrangements for an appointment.  I usually write my message at night, then get a call in the morning and make arrangements to visit the doctor.  I think it is quite efficient and I prefer it to calling the office.
