Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Sue concerning your Swedish Oatmeal Cookies ,  was the brand of flour  the same brand you have used in the past ?  I found if I use the store brand my baking doesn't turn out as good . Also in making chocolate chip cookies I didn't put in the correct amount of butter  & they turned out different . I actually liked them better !

SCFSue

I just tried to go back to the previous page and review my post and it took me to another forum.  Sometimes I wonder what's going on--either with my brain or the forums!

Re:  the basketball scandal.  I am shocked that Chuch Person who was an outstanding player at AU as was his younger Wesley.  I haven't heard anything about Wesley.  I wouldn't be surprised if Bruce Pearl might get some attention, too.  I was upset when AU men's basketball hired him as head coach as he had legal problems at his first school somewhere up north and some questionable behavior at Tennessee.  However, AU men's basketball fans think Pearl can do no wrong--I don't think they care about what he did in the past.  Winning seems to be THE THING with lots of fans.  I do like a winning coach, but integrity is first with me.

Alpiner, I was using a new bag of store brand flour--so perhaps that was the difference.  These Swedish Oatmeal cookies have always worked for me--and I just can't figure out what happened.

In the previous post Jane made about the basketball scandals, I wrote a pretty long one about Chuck Person--which was lost when I lost the post.  I was very surprised that Chuck is involved in this mess--he was a great player here at AU as was his younger brother, Wesley, who went on to play for a while in the pros.  They come from the same home town or nearby that Charles Barkley does.  I'll be interested in hearing what Barkley has to say about the situation.  I'm not overly surprised about the Louisville coach.  He's seemed pretty sleazy to me for a long time.

I don't like Bruce Pearl, the men's head coach, as he has had some questionable activities at previous schools.  However, the men's bball fans think he's next to G-D because AU men are finally winning.  I think the team will probably get some sanctions, too.

It's very hot here today and I didn't get out of bed until almost 9:00 this morning.  By the time I finished my walk I needed another shower.  We're to get into the 90's today.

Tomorrow Tim will take me to Montgomery for my annual visit with Dr. Davidson, my oncologist.  I had my mammo up here this year as Tim didn't want to drive down there for that.  I wasn't happy with the mammo, though.  My boobs are so small, especially the one with BC, that it is hard to get them under the masher.  I doubt the picture is as good as at the Cancer Center in Montgomery.  And at Montgomery, when I get the mammo there, I am not free to dress until a pathologist reads the film.  If he/she doesn't like what they see, I get more mashes!

I need to do some pruning of flowering shrubs today, but it's so hot, I doubt I'll get around to it.

I hope all are feeling well and have a nice day.
Sue

Hi Gals.  What a shame about all the college corruption. I hope none of it happened at IU or PU.  NC has had a lot of problems for several years.

I'm off to the grocery shortly. Bunny goes to get groomed this afternoon. Boy does she need it!  Her hair grows so fast and with the leaves etc in the yard and wet, dewy mornings, she is dragging in a bunch of stuff.

John just got back from the eye dr and she said he needed to go to Duke to get them checked again. The appt was set for Nov something, so, since he needs a driver, I told him he would have to reschedule. He had completely forgotten that I had surgery scheduled for 10/31!  No way I will be up to making that trip in 2-3 weeks.

Sue, you reminded me about my mamm. They are supposed to call me, but it seems like it's been a long time. As to the heat, we almost broke a record yesterday 92 as opposed to 93 in 1900!!  However, a cool front is on the way in. 80 tomorrow and 70's by the weekend.  I hope that's the end of the 90 degree days for this year.

Nothing else going on here.  Hi to all.  Interesting about the therapy vs service dogs, Jane.    Sharon

alpiner1

The breast cancer dr. called this morning & asked if I had gotten any calls about setting up an appt. with the oncologist for the cone radiation following the lumpectomy . No one has called & she is going to see to it herself .
I was relaying the conversation with my husband & he said he wants my surgery over with & for me to be healed . Then he said he wants to take me to Las Vegas !!

Wonderful support from your hubby, Alpiner.

Friday morning and almost end of Sept. greetings.  Yikes...Sept.is over tomorrow and Oct. here on Sunday.  Time is whirling by me.

Nothing much going on here...supper out tonight with friends.

Jane

maryz

Yep, times goes by faster the less we have of it, I guess.  But the lower temps and lower humidity are wonderful.  I read my paper out on the deck this morning.  :)

SharonE

Las Vegas will give you something to look forward to, Alpiner.  John took me to Palm Springs after my surgery and before my chemo. That works too.

Mary, I agree about the cooler temps. We hit 93 yesterday and supposed to top out at 79 today!

I got reprogrammed again and no injections as he was planning to inject me around the battery pack that was bothering me a month or so ago and is not longer a problem.  But I had to wait forever. I was in the office for 2.5 hours!  Grrr.

Bunny got bows in her ears at grooming yesterday and looks so cute. She doesn't think much of them though.

Sharon

alpiner1

No word from the dr. today . This waiting is making me weary .  The dr. is trying to line up this particular oncologist she has a lot of trust in .

Marilyn

Sharon, a Service dog is trained to do a specific task for the owner, It doesn't necessarily have to be something the owner can't-do. The ADA doesn't state that. Nor does the dog have to demonstrate the task to anyone. and No one can require the owner to make the dog perform that task. They are not telling the truth, they just want to get rid of the pit bull. they can be very gentle dogs. it is the person on the other end of the leash who makes them be bad dogs. They live to please the owner. The town must have a pit bull ordinance for them to be so aggressively pursuing the situation.

Freckles is a Therapy dog when we are out visiting, but when she is just with me she is my service god and sometimes wears a service dog vest when we travel and sometimes when I am out walking with her. She knows the difference because when we go visiting I am also wearing a vest that matches her therapy dog vest.

Sorry alpiner - and now you'll probably have to wait over the weekend.   :(

alpiner1

Thank goodness tomorrow is grocery shopping day !!   My eyes have been tearing so much & a day out will make me feel better. Some times I can't seem to talk without my voice cracking .

SharonE

Marilyn, I wasn't the one who brought up the pitbull therapy dog. I think it was Mary.  Dogs are like children for the most part--they learn what you teach them.  Some children are little "hellions" because their parents never discipline them. Dogs are the same. Pitbulls have such big jaws, etc, that if they aren't brought up gently, and they get vicious, it can be deadly. Same with several other breeds

It is nearly 2 AM. My shoulder/rib was hurting so much I couldn't sleep, so here I am.  Did I mention that I fell at my friend's house in Indy?  I fell putting the towel up over the shower curtain rod, lost my balance and fell forward. I got several bruises on my right side and also did something to my rib/shoulder blade. The bruises are healing fine. I haven't gone to a dr about the rib because I know they don't do anything for them. It really only bothers me much at night, so it occurred to me that maybe my bra was stabalizing it during the day. Consequently, I just put my bra back on under my gown and we'll see if it works.  I also took a pain pill.  Hopefully, I'll be able to get to sleep soon. Sharon

maryz

Sharon, sorry you were up with the pain last night.  And awful about your falling.  I'm glad it wasn't worse.  Let us know if wearing the bra helped.  It wasn't me asking about the pit bull - I don't know anything much about different dogs.  If I did anything with them, it would be a shelter adoptee/mutt type in any case.  ;)

It's a lovely morning here - cool, with a little breeze.  Only supposed to get up to about 80 today.

Happy Weekend, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've putzed around this morning, didn't get up until a bit after 8:00.  After breakfast I dressed and walked for about 20 minutes.  I stayed away from Samford Avenue which is down the hill from me.  Tailgaters for tonight's ballgame are already on their way to the stadium.  We have a pretty large lane for walkers but some of the out of towners get too close to it, IMO!

I need to do more weeding in my flower beds as it's almost time to pull up the summer flowers and put in pansies.  The local Beautification Council will be selling them along with other fall flowers in a couple of weeks.  I haven't put an order in yet, but need to do that soon.

I have a load of wash in the washer and will put it in the dryer soon.  Yesterday when we got back to Auburn, Tim took me to Kroger for a few necessary things and I bought a frozen pizza.  I'm going to bake half today for eating during the football games and save the other half for next week.

Have a great Saturday and Sunday, Buddies.  May your teams win today--unless you're pulling for Mississippi State against Auburn!

Sue

SharonE

Hi Gals. I finally got to bed about 3:30 or so and didn't get up till 11:00!  I hate that.  The bra helped some but not enough. I still hurt a lot all night.  Mary, you're so right about it not being a more serious fall.  I turned my back control down a notch to see if that would help today. They had it pretty high.  I'm glad the weather is cooling down.

Sue, I don't know if I will get my pansies and bulbs planted this year or not. So far, my flowers are still looking pretty, so I'll wait a couple weeks and see if I have the energy, etc, to get them in. I can't imagine a winter without pansies in my front pots.  John went out and watered and filled the bird feeders and bird bath for me.

I was going to go to the library to pick up the book I had ordered for book club, but checked the hours and discovered they are closed Sat afternoons and Sundays, so guess it will wait till Monday.  Nothing else going on here. I need to read my SS lesson for tomorrow, but nothing else on the schedule.

Have a nice weekend, everyone.  Sharon

I thought I posted this morning, but I don't see it anywhere.

Alpiner....I don't think Docs realize how much we worry when we don't hear from them.

Marilyn...It was I who talked about the therapy vs service dog dispute in a little town north of me. They have an ordinance against pit bulls in town...been there for 20 yrs.  It's headed for court. Lawyer says "emotional support" means therapy dog, not service dog, so not entitled to an exemption.  The Judge will decide.

Sharon...I'd missed about your fall.  I sure hope that heals soon...that much pain is such a drag on your health overall.

Beautiful day here. Ray and I thought we'd be renting the walnut "picker-upper" but as he was about to head out, he said Matt, our yard guy, was out raking up the leaves and walnuts.  He went ahead and rented it for Matt to use.  We were then headed out to an Amish country store up north of us with neighbors, so Matt said he'd return the "picker-upper" to the Hardware store. We had a nice drive up and got loaded up on stuff.  It was a beautiful day for a drive.  Fields are full of harvest equipment chopping corn for sillage or picking soybeans.

Time for football now tonight. Ray will pick up a steak at the Amer. Legion's last steak fry of the year and bring it home after Mass.

Jane the lawyer is correct. A therapy dog is NOT a Service dog. And an emotional Support dog is NOT a Service Dog.

I've been watching the Auburn-Mississippi State football game and it is in the final quarter.  ESPN took it off because the Alabama game is starting!  What a crock!  They put the Auburn game on some alternate channel.  So unfair!

So I'm off to soon watch my Saturday evening shows on PBS.  And am not in a wonderful mood!  Auburn is playing really well and will win handily, but it just stinks!

Sue

SCFSue

P.S.  They just flashed the Auburn final score and Auburn won--but I still think it's unfair!

Sue

jane

Marilyn...yep, and that's why the woman changed her story to say the pit bull was a service dog and why it's going to court.  Who knows when it'll go to trial, but I'll keep an eye out for news about it.

Sue....not nice at all to remove AU for AL.

Have a good sleep, everyBuddie!

Happy October the Oneth!!

Beautiful morning/afternoon almost here.  We've had our usual big Sunday brunch...kind of a weekend treat we do...and so will now will put a roast in the oven for supper after some football games for Jane.  Ray doesn't care for sports like I do...so we'll probably be in different rooms.  He'll be watching the History channel or something, and I'll be on football.

:D

SCFSue

Jane, I like some programs on the History Channel, but I'll take football first any day--unless it's having to watch Alabama plow some team into the ground.  I think they should be banished into the NFL!  I liked Coach Bryant when he was 'Bama's head coach for so many years, but I didn't cheer for his team.  I just thought he was a good coach.  I dislike Saban intensely.  He just seems to have an "ATTITUDE"!

I had to eat at Burger King after church.  My usual ride, Olyne, had a son here from Gulf Shores.  He's going to have back surgery next week and wanted to visit while he can still drive.  So she stayed home and I caught a ride with Ethel who eats at BK after church.

I don't have much planned for this afternoon, but when the shade comes over my flower beds out front, I hope I can get up enough oomph to go out there and do some weed pulling.  It's about time to pull up the pansies and other spring and summer flowers and get ready for some new fall ones.  Then I'll have to get someone to take me to the Beautification Council's annual fall sale to get some fall annuals.

Have a pleasant Sunday, Buddies.
Sue

Cottoncandy

Well I had my mamagram done Friday...and got a call today from Dr wanting me to go for ultrasound on one breast..I go Thursday..so asking for prayers... I do have dense breast...so don't know what showed up..other than a change from last year...Thanks for prayers in advance Darlene

SCFSue

Darlene, I'm sending up prayers for your Mammo on Thursday.  I hope they get a clearer picture then and all will be well.  Your doctor will know what is best--and I pray the second picture will help him/her decide what to do next.  Big Hugs for a good result from this test.

I've been doing laundry this morning and have weeded the small flower bed near my side door.  Thank goodness for my nail brush.  Lots of dirt under my fingernails.

Tim came by while I was weeding.  He took measurements on parts of my roof and is going to talk to a roofer.  I got a check from USAA in this morning's mail after Tim left, so that should pay for the re-roofing.

It's looking like rain here later, but may not happen.  I'd love to see some so that I don't have to drag the sprinklers out.

Have a good day, Buddies.
Sue

Marilyn

Praying for you Darlene.

SharonE

Me too, Darlene. I do hope it is just a calcification or something. Once I had to have an US because I had changed where I got the mamm done and they saw a calcification that had been there before, but I about had heart failure till I found out it was nothing.  Going through BC once is enough and more than enough, although I know Ginny & Joy have had it twice.

I just got back from the DMV in Lancaster--about 30 miles from here! I had to get my license renewed since it expires in a couple weeks.  I had hoped to get a "Real ID" since SC licenses will not be accepted for airline travel, etc after next year, but they won't be available till 2018.  Grumble. Of course I can use my Passport, but I'm not sure when that expires. I doubt I will renew it.

Some good news, since my last programming, my back has been better!  Whoo Hoo!!  It's not pain free and I doubt it ever will be, but there is definite improvement.

I have an appt at Beltone Wed to have my hearing aids boosted in power and to have my hearing checked.  I just hope that they can increase their power without new aids.

I also called about my mammogram and can you believe they have no record of my getting one last year!  Anyway, I've scheduled one for next Monday.  I wonder if they don't send reminders out anymore.  If not, that stinks, but since I'm getting it in Oct, I should be able to remember it in the future since it is my birth month.

John has to go back to Duke for his eyes, so that has to be worked in too before the 31st.  So many things to take care of.

I did get my fall decorations up inside and a scarecrow outside. I think I will skip the mums this year.  I also did 2 loads of laundry yesterday after church and then made ratatouille & lamb chops for dinner.  I do hope my renewed energy lasts.

Hi to all. Sharon

jane

Darlene....definite prayers for you!

Sharon....glad to hear your back pain is better.

Marilyn...when do you fly to OR for K's eyes?

Sue...hurrah on the check coming for your roof damage.

Hot today....upper 80s!  Too much  for Oct.

The LV shooting is so horrific it's beyond words.

Jane

maryz

Darlene, that's so scary!  My heart goes out to you.  We'll be waiting with you for more information.
