The doctor called last Thursday & she said she would work on getting the oncologist to call . I'm still waiting .

Marilyn

Jane I live in Oregon, The aline that was here went out of business and there are no more flights to Portland unless we drive 2 hours to Eugene to get a plane that would put us halfway to Portland. So It looks like I am driving again next Wednesday the 11thy returning on the 13th as far as I know at this time. It depends on the outcome of that appointment with the neuro-ophthalmologist. We live on the southern coast of Oregon.

jane

Alpiner...hang in there.

Marilyn....I know you're in Oregon, but I thought you had posted that you were looking at flying up, so I guess that's when you learned flying wouldn't work.  Driving may give you more flexability if the doc wants him to to stay for tests, etc.

SharonE

Marilyn, I'm sorry you have to drive so far for K's appt, but we do what we must.  John has to go back to Duke U Hospital for more eye tests and the only time they could schedule him before my surgery is next Monday when I have a mammogram scheduled, so I'm going to have to reschedule that.  They gave him a 2:00 appt this time, so we can drive up and back the same day--unless they want to keep him over which I think is unlikely.  I hate driving that far too, but with John's eyes dialated after his appt, he can't drive.

I still can't get that blasted Echo installed!  Lori's time and mine haven't synced so that she can help me.

Alpiner, let us know as soon as you hear something. Prayers going out.

No major plans here today.  Sharon

jane

Those long drives for medical care are a nuisance, but it's nice to know quality care is available when there are problems beyond the scope of the local medical people.

We have flu shots scheduled for 10:00 this morning.  The Clinic is doing a Wellness Senior Fair this Thurs. at the Fairgrounds, but that's always busy and I'm not into waiting in line when I can make an appt and get it at the Clinic, rather than one of the drugstores, etc.

After high 80s yesterday, it's suppose to cool to high 60s by tomorrow.  I hope so.

SCFSue

Good morning!  I had my flu shot last Friday when Tim and I were at Kroger.  I've been getting it there since I moved to Auburn in 2004.  I was glad to get that over for another year.

My plan for today is to do more weeding along my sidewalk leading toward my front door to the living room.  I have lots of ivy growing there and it needs to be cut back.  I'm expecting Tim sometime this morning and he will be happy to see the check USAA has sent me for the roof damage--so I'm thinking we'll go to the bank to deposit it.  Tim has talked to a roofer about replacing the entire roof and we think this check will cover most of it.

It's feeling "fallish" here this morning, but still expected to get into the mid 80's  this  afternoon.  I am wearing a sweat shirt over my t-shirt this morning, but my neighbors probably think I'm nuts.  I am always feeling colder than anyone else seems to!

Not much else to report this morning.  I hope you all have a good day.  Sharon, good luck with your trip to Duke about John's eyes--and also with your Mammo.

Have a good day, Buddies.
Sue

I, too, would hate having to go such long distances for health care.  But we do what's necessary.  So far, I've found great medical care close to home.

I got my flu shot today, too.  They had a clinic here at the Terrace.  I went in toward the end of the scheduled time, and didn't even have to sit down.  She took my name, pulled up my sleeve, shot me, and put on a Band-Aid.  I was out of there in less than 5 minutes.

I played duplicate last night - we came in last out of 5 tables - terrible cards, played worse.  >:(  Then, when I got home, there was a high-pitched noise in my apartment.  Turned out it was coming from one of my toilets - it was running constantly - and whining.  I knew I couldn't get maintenance at that hour (9:30), and I couldn't get to the valve to turn it off.  I finally pushed my emergency button and a couple of the CNAs came to find out what was wrong.  Bless them - they turned it off for me.  At least I do have another toilet to use.  But I put in a work order for maintenance to come fix it.  Sighhhhh.

We're getting back up into the 80s this week, with no rain.  So no real "fall" yet - just a teaser.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

I'm glad that there is good medical care available also. I'm surprised his regular doctor can't figure this out, but apparently, his field of vision is not good even though the eye pressure is where they want it.  Anyway, it's a doable trip for such an important thing.  I was able to change my mamm to the next day.

Sue, so glad you got your ins ck and will be able to get a new roof.  I don't know how you weed flower beds with your leg in a foot cast.  I just can't weed period unless I can reach it while I'm sitting on my garden stool.  With the amount of mulch they put in our front gardens, weeds just don't often come up.  In back, I occasionally have problems, but John has been using  Round-UP on the grass that tries to edge into the back beds.  I picked 3 beautiful hydrangea blooms and put them into a vase on my counter today. So pretty.  The one bush blooms its head off and the other two haven't even had a bloom this year.  I'm going to have them pulled out and see if I can put some Encore azaleas or Sasanqua camelias in place of them.  They get sun till about 1 or 2. Do you think they would survive that?

I haven't gotten my flu shot yet, but will get it the 10th when I go in for my pre-op visit with my internist. I already checked to make sure that was soon enough.  You guys are ahead of me.  John got his last week

Mary, yesterday must have been a bad day for duplicate.  John said he blew 4 boards!  He's going to a regional tournament in Charlotte the last week of Oct. I hope he starts playing better.  He did so well in the sectional last month. (15 pts!)

SharonE

I just finished a mega job!  The 10th is Brian & Traecy's 25th wedding anniversary and they expressed interest in my silver when I was done with it, so I spent the afternoon polishing it all up and even shining the wooden case for them. Now I have to get a card and some silver paper, wrap it and send it UPS to IL. It will probably cost a fortune, it's so heavy, but it is family silver and I wanted it to stay in the family. The girls weren't interested.  Now, I'm done for the day.  Sharon

maryz

Big job, Sharon!  I'm always glad when one of "the kids" wants something with a family history.  So often that doesn't happen.  :smitten:
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

So true, Mary.  I always loved setting a pretty table when I entertained with crystal, silver, & good china, but we hardly ever do that sort of thing anymore, so I decided this was a good time to pass it on.

I'm going to Beltone this afternoon. Cross your fingers that they are able to boost the sound on the hearing aids I have without buying new ones yet.

My cleaning girl is here. Having her do some extra things today. I hate the thought of leaving the house in less than ship shape.  She will be here to do regular cleaning the day before I go for surgery.

Another beautiful day here, but then it's to go into the low 80's for a while. Maybe rain on Sun & Mon. We really need some.

Nothing much else going on. HOpe everyone is out enjoying the fall weather.  Sharon

jane

Bridge was Ok...came in 3rd so got my quarter back!

Tonight we're going with Kathy and Gary to the Community Church's Fall "Festival" which is a buffet style dinner open to the public...a fund raiser, of course.  It's a sloppy joe or hot turkey, baked beans, potato salad and a dessert.  The desserts are homemade and are usually wonderful.

Hello girls! "Long time no see", but the floods have kept Louisiana ---and Texas---
BUSY.  Today's paper says that  Louisiana may be in the path of Hurricane Nate. :(
It should not strike the Gulf Coast until Sunday,  but WHO KNOWS? Louisiana has
become "friends" with hurricanes.
I got my flu shot right here at Williamsburg Senior Living.  Had no waiting whatsoever. By the way, Williamsburg  is celebrating its 30 year anniversary as a
Senior living facility and the FIRST Senior Living to open in Baton Rouge .  There
will be lots of "hoop-la" on Sunday  here.
Joy

maryz

Joy, good to see you.  And glad to see you are happy with your living arrangements - as am I.  ;) I guess I need to turn the TV on - haven't seen the news that the "low" had developed into a hurricane.  That's supposed to bring us some much-needed rain over the weekend.  I know y'all certainly don't need any more.

My new love seat/bed has already been delivered this morning.  They had said between 10 and 1, and they were here shortly after 9:30.   It fits fine in the space and looks good.  I must admit I haven't even sat in it or tried to open it yet.  I need to get some double-bed sheets for it, and then I'll be ready for company.  Y'all come visit sometime.

Morning, Buddies!

Joy....great to see you here.  I hope Nate avoids you and TX.

Mary...loveseat/double bed sounds perfect for guests.

It's a cool 60 now and right where it should be for Oct. 5.

I'm off for a hair appt and then, I think, we'll tackle defrosting the chest freezer in the garage.

Mary Z: You are very correct-----Rain is the last thing we need now.  We have had
enough for a while

Marilyn

Good morning, I haven't posted for a couple of days. Did all y'all miss me?

Yesterday Freckles and I visited the residents at Baycrest 2nd floor while two other teams visited the Rehab and bedridden residents downstairs. Today Freckles and I along with 5 more teams will visit the Bay Area Hospital (the only hospital here). We don'\t go to the area where the joint replacement patients are the emergency waiting room, imaging waiting and a couple of other places. I have to go to the human services office and get a sticker put on my hospital badge that confirms I've had my flu shot. It's been a busy week.

We leave for Vancouver on Tuesday, Corey (the youngest son) will go with us to the Neuro-ophthalmologist, I am also taking the paperwork for Keith's Camaro so I can convince him to give Corey the car. I don't know why he wants to keep it here, he will never be able to drive again. Plus the Corvette is still here but that is Ok with me. He [probably will never let me drive the Vette.]

SharonE

I'm back from the grocery and UPS. Everything is put away, I've had my yogurt and can finally relax!

Joy, last night our weather guy said that Nate was supposed to hit AL and come up here to Charlotte!  I do hope he avoids LA.  I don't know if AL needs the rain or not but we sure do.  None of us need wind damage though.

Mary, so glad you got your love seat.  It sounds like just the right thing for a small apartment.

Jane, wow 60 degrees!  We're back up to 80 today, but our average is about 76.  So not bad.

Marilyn, you have been busy with your visits.  I know how nice it must be for the patients. I know you are dreading your long drive. It would be nice if K would give Cory the vette.

I got the makings for meat loaves and will make up about 5 of them tomorrow so that they will be in the freezer to have when I get home from rehab.  I like to keep some in there anyway.

I'm not looking forward to our trip to Duke on Monday either. It is supposed to be rainy all day. I hope he can get finished and out of there so I can drive home before dark.  We should.   Our neighbor is going to come in and feed Bunny while we're gone.

Hi to Jeanne, Ginny, and Darlene.   Sharon

Marilyn

None of the kids want the Vette. However on my side Forest would love to have the Ope,l as a project car. It is at least 45 years old, but I think Corey might take the Camaro.

SCFSue

I got up early this morning and weeded/cut out lots of ivy which is climbing up the side of my house near the place where the tree fell on the roof.  I have about another 40 to 50 minutes of ivy disposal left--and will work on it tomorrow morning early if we don't get rain.  But I'll have to be showered and dressed by 11:00 as Tim is coming over for our lunch date, stop at the bank, and also Kroger shopping, so a busy day ahead tomorrow.

Bridge was fun, but I didn't get great cards and didn't play the ones I did get very well.  So not poor enough to get my quarter back (that's what low gets) and certainly not high enough for place 1 or 2!

I'm having leftovers for supper.  It is cloudy now and we might get some rain this evening.  It's possible that the hurricane in the Gulf will bring us some rain tomorrow or Saturday.  I hope to get the ivy eliminated before that!

Sharon, my leg is not in a foot cast, but I must wear a brace which goes into my right shoe and is fastened to my calf with 2 straps.  One is around the ankle and the other is just below my knee.  It's not terribly uncomfortable, but is awkward when I'm weeding or other jobs down low.  I hope the trip to Duke goes well.  Have a safe trip!

Hi Joy.  I hope the rain misses you--and it's great to see your post.  Come back soon.  My weatherman thinks the new hurricane is going to swerve toward Georgia.  We'll get rain if he's right, but not as much wind.

Mary, your new love seat/bed sounds great and will be really nice when one or more of your girls visit.  I've decided to go shorter with my hair, so am not going back to Bonney's hair dresser, but am going to walk down to Great Clips on Saturday a.m. for a haircut.  Probably not as short as yours, but getting closer!

Jane, you're brave to start defrosting your extra freezer.  Mine extra fridge gave up the ghost and I have to put everything in my newer fridge/freezer.  So far that's working out OK.

Marilyn, I hope all goes well with Keith's exam--and am glad Corey can go with you.  Good luck on convincing Keith to give Corey the car!

Have a nice evening, Buddies.
Sue

jane

Sharon...great planning ahead with stuff in freezer.

Marilyn...glad to hear Cory is going with you to also hear what the doc says.  Since you're having to do all the driving, it's good you have a better car now and new tires.  Can Cory help convincing K to get his legal affairs in order?

The defrost of the freezer went quickly.  We also got rid of stuff that had been there too long, so it's in good shape until next summer, I'd guess.

jane

alpiner1

Finally got the okay from our insurance for the lumpectomy but now I have a cold !

SCFSue

Alpiner, I'm sorry about the cold.  I hope it leaves soon so that you can get the lumpectomy ASAP!

Sleep well tonight, Every Buddy.
Sue

maryz

alpiner, glad you've finally got the insurance OK - hope the date is set soon.

Marilyn, like others, I'm glad Corey is going to the appointment with you.  And like jane said, maybe he can help convince Keith to do some paper-signing.

Sue, I hope you enjoy your new haircut - and get good cuts at Great Clips.  They've always done pretty well for me.  With it short, at least for me, it seems to grow faster, so I really can't go much more than three weeks between cuts.

jane, kudos for getting the freezer defrosted.  That was a job that John always did, and that we both hated.  ;D

Sharon, glad you're getting some meals stocked up in the freezer.  Have you ever thought of using Blue Apron or one of those other companies?  I've heard good things about them.

We're supposed to get rain from Nate beginning Saturday night and all day Sunday - maybe as much as 3".  We'll see.

Sleep well, Buddies!

How well I know that you cannot count on any absolutely positive path of a hurricane,
having been through a "FEW" in 88 years.  However, Nate's prediction is now

that PROBABLY it will be Louisiana's "guest".  >:(
Joy

jane

Joy....hope it isn't too bad when it hits.

We're to have rain today and tomorrow...and I hope we do.  Everything is so dry.  Sybean harvest is about over...and those awful, biting orange beetles are everywhere.  Corn harvest will have to wait a bit if we get the rains predicted.

Jane

SCFSue

Good morning!  I've been outside and finished cutting the ivy back from the front wall of my house.  Hot job, although I started before 8:00!  I've showered and dressed for lunch and grocery shopping with Tim at 11:00, so am just going to sit down and read until he gets here.

Joy, our weatherman last night gave 2 alternative places for the hurricane to hit--one is to hit Louisiana and the other to veer toward Mobile and then up into Georgia.  However, IMO hurricanes are somewhat unpredictable, but I'm getting out my hurricane lamp and my battery operated storm radio just in case.  I do hope it misses you.  Take care!

Mary, when I first moved here I had my haircut at Great Clips next to Kroger until they moved to another location.  Now there is one again near Kroger and I'm planning to walk down there tomorrow morning and just walk in.  I'm also taking my library bag with me and will stop at the library on the way home.

Not much else to report.  I have to go make my grocery list and then I'll read until Tim gets here.  We're also going to the bank to deposit the check USAA sent me for my insurance settlement.

I hope every Buddy has a good and pain free day.
Sue

SharonE

Good news, Darlene.

Alpiner, try some Coldeez to speed up the end of your cold, then you can get your surgery scheduled. Good on the ins.

Joy, our weatherman changed to a more western path starting in NO also.  Maybe it will change again.  As it is, we may not get much rain which we need badly. None for over 20 days.

Sue, you must really be feeling better to get all the things done yoou are doing!  Wonderful.  Hope the new hair style suits you.

Mary, you are west of us, so you may get the rain and we won't.

I don't think I reported on Beltone.  She didn't have the repair kit for my Seimens aids and called the company, but they said they no longer had one because they are too old. So today, I need to see if I can find a siemens vendor who does have the kit. If not, I'll have to bite the bullet and pay $5,o00 for a new pair.  I really like the Beltone ones better. There is no tinny sound, much more natural.  Because I have BC/BS ins, there is a large discount from the regular retail price, but 5,000 still sounds way too high to me.  I'm still thinking about it.

Our financial advisor calle this AM at my request to discuss readjusting annuities and income before John turns 80 next Oct and his annuity stops.  Decisions, decisions.  We love our advisor though. We've had him for about 30 yrsl.
