Marilyn

When we were in Vancouver in August, Keith's sons had long talks with him. He4 was to have the paperwork done by the Wedding in September. and to give copies to the boys. We that didn't happen and I am sure they are going to be after him again to get it done. I have just about given up[ on requesting to be put on his checking account as a signer. I have to find the deed to the house so he can take care of that, I will probably have to go to a title company to get them to find the title Nola said she signed off at the divorce attorney's office.

maryz

How tough for you to have to deal with all that, Marilyn.  I hope his kids will see that you're taken care of.

It's looking like Nate is going to come ashore right at "our" house in Gulf Shores - or just west of there, which would be worse.  And that means Sue will probably get a lot of wind and rain.  At least this one seems to be fast-moving.  It's already cloudy here, and we're predicted to get 1-3" of rain with 40 mph gusts over tonight and Sunday.  We can use the rain, but might wind up with some power outages.  I hope Sharon gets some rain out of it, but that Joy doesn't get too much.  This has been quite a year for hurricanes!

Darlene...GREAT NEWS!  Did they drain the cyst?  I had one of those and it had to be drained every year or so until the doc finally said it was time to take it out.  Maybe they don't do that anymore. This was 30-35 yrs ago.

Marilyn....I hope you're putting your SS money and other $$ you have into a separate account in your name only.  How does K think you're going to pay the bills if he's unable to?  I guess he thinks he's going to live and be in good health forever.  I hope his boys can talk some sense into him.

Mary...Gulf Shores and Orange Beach got hit so hard before, too...some, what? 15 yrs ago now?

Joy...hope you and your family are safe from this one.

Sharon...the aids are so expensive. I know we aid $3700 for one aid Ray needed.  No insurance, of course.  We did put them on our homeowners in case it's lost.

Sue...you have a lot more energy than I do to work outside like that.  By this time of year, I've lost interest and just want to get the hostas cut down and the annuals pulled up and thrown away and the garden put to "bed" for the winter.

Cottoncandy

Jane...want know until I go in to Dr on the 17th...his office just called with the report....If any of you can think of important questions to ask on my appt...appreciate the feedback..Darlene

jane

Just the questions you probably already have ready...

Will they drain the cyst?  If it reappears, is it best to consider having it out?

maryz

jane, the last one I remember was in 2004, I think (don't remember name).  That area didn't get hit quite as bad with Katrina.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Darlene, I've never had a cyst, so have not input. Just glad it is benign.

Marilyn, I would be at my wits end if I had no control of finances and my husband had  some dementia.  If the boys can't force him to do anything, can you talk to your lawyer about getting guardianship or something? Without your name on anything, you could really end up in a pickle.  Talk to the boys if they don't bring it up.

Mary, we are already getting some rain. I didn't think we would get any until tomorrow.  I hope Nate moves fast and is gone by the time I have to drive back from Durham.  His appt is at 2:00, so if it doesn't take too long, we may be back by dinner.  I hope your house in Gulf Shores doesn't sustain any damage. I know you and your family have made many happy memories there.

Jane, with the cool weather coming in at your house, I fully understand your wanting to shut down gardening for the year.  Those of us in the South never completely stop.  I'm still trying to convince myself to plant pansies.  John will be gone the week before my surgery, so maybe I will do it then. I haven't put out any mums this year though I love them. Last year's didn't come back up this year. My hybiscus and pentas are still doing beautifully. Pulling them out seems like throwing money away, but they won't last much longer. The first hard frost will kill them.

I've washed my hair and read my SS lesson, but not much else.  I still need to make those meat loaves. I never got them done yesterday.  Sharon

Hi Buddies.  It's 1:05 here and I'm home.  I walked down to the Kroger shopping center to get a haircut from Great Clips.  The young lady did a good job and it's very short, but it'll grow.  then I walked back up that hill to the library and checked out books, plus enjoyed a great display about the "Bravehearts" program at our church.  The Bravehearts are a group of young adults with disabilities who attend a daily program of enrichment activities, field trips, etc.  They have instructors in daily living skills, art, music, and others.  Their parents are very supportive of the program and our church members love being able to furnish room for them.

I got home in time to watch the 2nd quarter of the AU/Ole Miss game.  We're ahead 38-10 and I'm happy about that, but the 2 SEC announcers sure have spent a lot of time extolling the virtues of our nemesis, Nick Saban--not very nice, IMO!

It took me 30 minutes to walk to Great Clips, 10 minutes back to the library and another 20 back home  (I had to sit down at the top of the big hill to rest and a driver stopped to ask if I were OK.  I said yes, just resting, so he drove on).  I've showered, dressed, and had left over pizza for lunch.  Not much more planned to the rest of the day except more football and probably starting on one of my new library books.

Have a great Saturday and I hope your teams win, unless you're pulling for Ole Miss!
Sue

Marilyn

Sherry, I have often thought about what would I do if he just keeps refusing to do anything. I  am so fed up I would probably just walk away from it all and go live with Gilbert, Let the boys handle everything. But as his wife, I am told that the wife automatically gets half of everything, That could or could not be true.

maryz

Marilyn, I think I'd talk with a lawyer to see what my rights were before walking away from the situation. Maybe it's time to make that investment.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

I hope Sue is okay.  It looks like Nate is going just west of her location. It's raining here now, but still too dark for me to see the rain gauge to how much we've gotten so far. The wind is not due here for several hours.

SharonE

We got about a third of an inch yesterday and so far nothing today, but it's predicted to hit us later this afternoon & night. I hope it's not too bad tomorrow when we're driving.

I got all my meat loaves (5) made yesterday. Froze 4 and had one for dinner with enough for tonight too. I did fairly well on my feet till the end, but I'm hurting today.  Part of it may be the weather though. We did go to SS & church and stopped at HT to exchange a couple items that were wrong. Since I've gotten home, I've done 2 loads of laundry and had lunch. Not much else. John is off to a church financial meeting.

Because of the trip to Duke tomorrow and my knee next month, I won't be able to go to my book club meetings.  I really wasn't too enthusiastic about the books, so I probably won't read them. I started the first one and while I agreed with most of what he was saying about the churches and LBGT people, I don't think I really want to wade through it all. It was written by a gay Christian man and relates the problems the church raises for gays and turns them away from the church. I don't think all churches do that, but certainly some do.  The other one I haven't touched. Don't even know what it's about.

Going to pack an overnight bag for us this afternoon just in case we need it tomorrow. Hopefully not since I have 3 appts on Tues morning that I would have to call and reschedule.  One is my mamm, one is a pre-op lab and the other a pre-op appt with my primary dr.  So all important.

Nothing else going on here.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, now it's looking like there are tornadoes in your area.  Be safe!

My NOAA weather alarm hasn't gone of yet, but I'll stay aware.  Thanks. Sharon

maryz

My rain gauge shows 4" of rain so far, and we haven't had any bad winds. There was a tree down on the road near the Terrace.  It didn't affect power here, though.  Our weather guy has said that the hardest rain is almost over here, but still more predicted.

I had buckets of rain last night.  About dark, the wind was really raging, so I went out on the deck and turned the wrought iron chairs upside down and went next door and asked David to come over and help me take the umbrella down and turn the table over, too.  Thankfully nothing fell against the windows and nothing is broken.  I woke up to more rain this morning and ate breakfast, read the paper, and dressed for Sunday School and church.  Olyne picked me up at 9:30 for SS and we went to church together afterward and then the whole SS class went out to Jeanne's for the luncheon which her chef son prepared for us.  We were celebrating Alice's 100th birthday.

Alice is an amazing women--sharp as a tack and although moves more slowly now, keeps up with many who are much younger.  Her son, a retired MD lives with her.  She moved to California to live with him when his wife died from B.C. and helped raise his daughters.  They moved to Auburn when the girls were pre-teens.  Both are out of school now and working in Atlanta.

It is still raining here, but not as hard.  I've been watching TV and reading this evening and will go to bed shortly.  I hope you've all had a good Sunday.

Sue

maryz

Sue, glad to hear you didn't have anything worse from the storm.  I had put my umbrella down before the rain started, so I knew that wouldn't be a problem. The sun is shining now, and it's really steamy outside.  I finally wound up with 4.6" of rain in my gauge - that's a lot!

Glad to hear our Southern Belles are safe.  I hope Sharon has a good trip to Duke and John's eyes are ok.

Beautiful here...in the mid 60s.  I've not got out to walk yet...need to do that.

I've been fussing with my laptop.  The *&^% thing wouldn't boot up this morning....after many many tries and digging out the old Gateway, I got it up.  My blood pressure was sure up, too.

Tomorrow is rain, so I think it's time I bit the bullet and went out and bought a new laptop.  We'll probably end up at Best Buy, but I'll also look at Sam's Club.

It's almost noon here.  I've been out this morning to Olyne's home for our monthly Circle meeting. We had a nice group and a former member visited again--she has left our church and joined a more conservative Presbyterian congregation, but has kept up her friendships with us.  I don't know which of our more liberal practices she doesn't like, and don't care to know.  I'm just sorry she felt they (she and hubby) needed to do that.  I miss her and am glad she still attends our Circle group.

It's sunny here and for once I don't have anything I want or need to do in my yard.  My cleaning ladies were here this morning and just before they left were cleaning in my family room.  One of them stood on a step stool to dust my book shelves and found water evidently leaking from the chimney outside.  I'm making a note to tell Tim on Friday.  We're having the roof replaced as soon as his friend who does roofing can get to it.

I have several books from the library which I have not yet read, so I have plenty to occupy my afternoon and the next day or two.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Sue

SharonE

Hi Gals. Glad to hear everyone survived Nate okay.  Mary you really got a lot of rain. I hope you needed it. We only got a half inch and need more. Some more is predicted, but so often it goes around us.

Our trip to Duke was uneventful as far as the drive goes. We got there early so were out by about 3:30 or so. We stopped for dinner on the way home, as my neighbor had fed Bunny lunch and dinner for us.  As to the results, I don't know any more than I did before. Apparently, John is losing some of his peripheral sight for no discernible reason.  The Dr. who is East Indian, thinks it may be nutritional :-\ :-\ so he ordered some blood tests and told us to come back in 2 weeks. When I explained that was impossible because of my surgery, he changed it to 2 months, so apparently it isn't urgent.  It's really strange.

This AM, I went in to see my primary dr, got a flu shot and another chest xray, then went to Ballentyne for a lab test and my mammogram.  They had put me down for a routine, rather than diagnostic one, so I won't know anything till they mail me a letter.  I got home a little before lunch.

Sue, it's good you're getting that roof replaced soon!  Glad your porch furniture was okay and that your lawn work is done.

Darlene, that's way too hot for Oct!!  At least in my book.

Jane, sorry your laptop needs to be replaced.  If it's not one thing, it's another.

Hi to all.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, glad your trip was uneventful.  But I know how frustrating "results" (or lack of them) can be.

Sue, it shouldn't be a surprise that you had a small leak after your roof damage and all the rain from Nate.  I hope you don't get a lot of rain before the new roof gets put on.  You probably should tell Tim about the leak before you see him on Friday.

Darlene, I remember those fun temperature swings in Texas.  Not fun.

I have a dropped ceiling in my bathrooms, and I noticed one of the pieces looked stained and possibly damp yesterday.  I poked at it with a hanger, and it went right through.  Oops.  Maintenance came and replaced the piece, but there will obviously be more leaking anytime it rains.  Fortunately the new owners are in the process of getting bids to have the roof replaced - not an inconsiderable expense, but definitely necessary.

Marilyn

I sure hope we get some results from Keith's eye appointment this time, at least tell us if it can be fixed or not.  I don't want to be driving to Portland during in the winter months, too much snow and rain. Too darn cold etc.

Sorry, you weren't able to get any new info on John, Sherry. Keith's peripheral vision is so sporadic and limited as well as his depth perception. He is a danger to himself and anyone else if he were to drive. He really scared me the last time he drove me to an eye appointment last year.

jane

Marilyn...if the doc doesn't say he can't drive directly, I'd suggest trying to take him aside and tell him to spell it out explicitly to Keith and Cody.  Sometimes men don't hear what they don't want to hear, I think.   :coolsmiley:

Cool here after a day of rain and t'storms yesterday.  More on Friday and Sat.

We're going to Iowa City tonight for the King and I stage production, staying overnight and home tomorrow.

I did buy a new computer, but I was too tired last night to try and start with it.  My old one, I've just left on and closed the lid, so it comes up. The problem, I think, is the darn "start " thing on the keyboard, so this way I stay "up."

I'm off to bridge and lunch and then we'll head to IC when I get home and enjoy our overnight "get away." Easy to please old retired people!   8)

jane

maryz

jane, I second what you suggested to Marilyn about getting the doctor to chime in.  I hope you and Ray have a good "night out" and that the production is a good one.  It's such fun to see that on stage.

Nothing exciting going on around here this week.  I hope all the Buddies are doing well.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Sounds like fun, Jane.  I haven't seen the stage performance but loved the movie.  Don't blame you for not trying the new computer till you're feeling fresh and focused. Have fun at bridge.

I'm going to the hearing center as I said yesterday at 3:30. Nothing important before then.

I did try to log in at the Chewy dogfood site and even when I clicked the forgot the password and got a new one, it still wouldn't take it.  Guess I'll go old school and call them.  Her 17 lb bag is apparently going to last her 3-4 months. I have one more canister full, but I don't want it to run out while I'm in rehab.

Marilyn, I hope you get results from K's eye appt too. It's so frustrating to be asked to return and return, especially when it is so far like his and John's are.  As it turned out, he counteracted the dilation in J's eyes and he was able to drive home, but it is still better for me to be with him as navigator and just in case.  Last time, they didn't counteract the dilation and he couldn't see well enough to drive. I agree with Jane also on having the dr. tell K he can't drive.

Hi Mary.  We live exciting lives, don't we?

I was so tired from the trip and from all the appts yesterday and early rise as well, that I slept in till after 9:00 today. I could have slept longer, but forced myself to get up.  Hi to all. Sharon

SCFSue

Hi Buddies.  I've been out to bridge today, had pretty good cards and won the second prize (75 cents.  We are really big rollers here in Auburn!)  Our hostess gave each of us a chocolate covered candy apple to take home.  I don't know if she made them or bought them.  I took mine over to April and David's for them to give to April's daughter, Adrienne, who stays with them over the weekends.

Marilyn, I agree with Jane and Mary about approaching the eye doctor out of hearing of Keith and Cody and explain how the situation REALLY is.  I think he/she should be most emphatic about the importance of Keith's not getting behind the wheel of a car.  Cody should realize that if he were to have an accident. he could be sued for everything he owns!

Sharon, has the doctor at Duke given you and John alternate treatments that might help this eyes?  I can't imagine losing my sight and dread the thought of being unable to read.  I know it must be frustrating for both of you.  I hope you can catch up on your sleep soon.

The evening news is on and it's time for a little something to eat and to choose what I'll watch after the news or whether I will read.  I have a new Patrick Henry novel about an Irish doctor, his family, patients, and friends.  This one goes back and forth from Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly's combat experience and surgical training during WWII and the present day in the small village of Ballybucklebo where he is the lead surgeon/doctor and is training 2 younger doctors.  Pretty interesting and well written, especially if you know and enjoy hearing about small village life in Ireland.

Have a nice evening, Buddies.
Sue

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  It's almost 11:00 this morning and I've just finished my morning walk and I'm pooped--not because of the walk, but it's the heat.  We're having highs in the 80's until hopefully cooler temps during the weekend.  Fall is having a hard time getting to Auburn this year!  I slept later this morning and was moving slowly, so didn't get outside until after 10:00.

I don't have much planned for today.  I'm caught up on laundry and the house is still clean from the Molly Maids work on Tuesday.  I don't think I'll work outside as it's just too hot.  If the front flower beds are shady this afternoon I might pull weeds.

Marilyn, I do hope you can get some legal protection as Keith's wife--and SOON!  You are the one who is taking care of him and you shouldn't be shoved aside because his sons haven't help him arrange his will.

Have a nice day, Buddies.
Sue

jane

Dreary, gloomy, little drizzle kind of day.  We got home about noon.  We stopped in at the new Trader Joe's in Iowa City (only the second one in Iowa) and got some things and a lovely fall bouquet that was reasonable.  They just opened last Friday, so were still quite busy.

We also stopped at a yarn shop in a 'burb of Cedar Rapids so I could stock up on purple and lavender yarn for this winter's knitting of baby caps for the hospital's Shaken Baby Awareness month.

Ray enjoyed The King and I.  I'm so-so on these musicals.  It's nothing I'd ever seek out on my own, but he enjoys them.  I'm glad we stayed overnight and got a good night's sleep.

I'm about to tackle the new laptop, so if you hear frustrated screaming suddenly, it's just me frustrated by a new system!! :knuppel2:

jane

SharonE

Hi Gals. Sue, glad you had good bridge yesterday. Good to take a break from the heat today as far as weeding goes.  I did catch up on my sleep. The dr hasn't given us any specifics yet. He wanted the results from the lab tests first.
..
John and I had dental appts this morning. I was fine, he had 2 cavities. I think my electric tooth brush works much better than the regular ones.  After that, we came home for lunch then went to the rehab center to scope it out. It is very clean and nice and is the one recommended by the dr. It is also fairly close to us.

After that, we went to the grocery and got that put away. Tomorrow is a free day!!! Yea!!!

Jane, I love musicals, as long as the music isn't today's music.  Glad you had a nice time and found your yarn.

Joc called last night.  She said the dr said she should deliver in another 1.5 weeks!!  Her due day was the 29th. They haven't decided definitely on his name. They have 3 in mind and will see which one seems to suit him best.

No other news here.  Hi to everyone.  Sharon
