Oh, Mary, poor Jean.  I can see myself doing something like that!

Alpiner....now things are moving along for you.

Jane

Thanks for the good wishes, jane.

We did a little better at duplicate tonight - came in third out of 9 pairs, and earned a quarter of a master point.

Sleep well, Buddies!

Lovely Tues. here and to be warmer than yesterday.

I'm thinking maybe we will start to cut back the hostas.  We have a lot of them, and it'll take a bit.  However, it'll be a start.

I also need to think about packing for a long weekend in Wisconsin.  We're headed up to Nephew and wife's new place and it's a 6 hour drive from here, it looks like.  We'll leave from Dbq after my mammo on Thurs.

Jane

maryz

Good morning, Buddies - a lovely clear morning here.  I'm just back from Silver Sneakers.  Next for the day is lunch and maybe a nap.  ;)

jane, I'd imagine Wisconsin will be pretty this time of year.  We did a photo workshop once in the UP of Michigan about this time of year and the fall colors were lovely.  Enjoy - both the trip and having the mammogram done for another year.

Alpiner, so glad you are scheduled and know what to expect. Now get over that bronchitis.

Darlene, I forgot to comment yesterday on highlights.  My hair is dark blonde with about 1/3 gray mixed through. Not really obvious but makes it look mousy, so I get highlights. She does the cap kind. It does seem more natural. I only get them done every 2-3 months.

Mary, you're so good about your swimming and Silver Sneakers.  Wish I lived near you, maybe you could motivate me.  After my surgery of course!  Great on the duplicate.

Jane, I'm jealous of the massage. I could use one about now too.  I hope you have a good mamm and a wonderful trip up to WI.  John grew up in Rockford, IL on the WI border. It is a pretty state.

My cleaning lady was here this AM and this afternoon, a guy is coming to detail and wax my car.  He uses steam for the detailing.  I do hope he does a good job. Haven't had him before but he was one of the vendors at the clubhouse a couple weeks ago.  I've been organizing things in my den, but still have a lot to do.

Have a nice Fall day everyone. Hi of 60 here!!  Sharon

SCFSue

BRRR!  It's chilly here this morning.  When I walked this morning about 9:00 I wore a long sleeved sweat shirt over my polo shirt and slacks and I was pretty cold when I returned home.  I am not a fan of cold weather!  Our farm was 50 miles south of here and much warmer.  I like the summers and fall, winter is chilly and mostly rainy, and March can be very cool, too.  My grandmother would tell me my blood is thin!

I've written some checks for the mailman to take back to the Post Office, fixed and ate lunch, and am going to lie down on my bed and read this afternoon after I get the rest of the kitchen cleaned up.

Alpiner, I'm glad you have a date for the surgery now and time moves along quickly for you.  I'm hoping all goes well and you'll soon be home again feeling well.

Have a nice day, Buddies.

We worked in the yard this morning, cutting back the hostas with an electric hedge clipper.  The kid who's doing our yard will rake it all up, I hope, or it'll be there next week.   :coolsmiley:

I need to get out and walk now that I've rested from the morning's work.  Then I need to help my friend Kathy with her Nook.  She doesn't understand how to download digital borrows from our regional library database.

Have a good Tuesday

Hi Jane.  I'm wondering where the other Buddies are this afternoon.  I've been out since 8:00 a.m. this morning.  I had a state Garden Club meeting which started with coffee at 10:00.  My bridge friend Carolyn is also a Garden Club member and fellow officer, so she picked me up.  It take about 2 hours to drive up to the town where the meeting was held.  We had coffee and goodies first, then the business meeting which took more than 2 hours.  We got some ideas for meetings, had a talk from a retired Naval Officer who lives near the town where the meeting was held.  Then we had a buffet luncheon which was very tasty and were able to come home after that.  Carolyn drove us the long way because she wanted to show me where she and her late husband first lived in Alabama.  They were former residents of Indiana where he was a pharmacist at one of the Indiana universities before moving to Auburn.

It's chilly here at 5:00, down to 72* and still no heat and it's expected to be much lower by bedtime.  I'm hoping my phone call to the electrician who services my heating and A.C. systems is able to come tomorrow morning before 11:00 or on Friday before 11:00 as I am going to bridge tomorrow and out to lunch and shopping with Tim on Friday.

Not much else to report this evening.  I hope all have had a good day.

Sue

maryz

It's been really quiet in here today.  I think this is when jane was going out of town.  She's the one who usually gets us going in the mornings.

Nothing exciting going on around here.  I got out to swim and coffee, then got my mani/pedi.  My great nail tech drew a spider web on my thumbnails - she always wants to do something fun.

But today is a special day...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SHARON!!!   :hb2: :hb2:
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SCFSue

Mary, thanks for the reminder of Sharon's birthday!  I'll second that.

Happy, Happy birthday, Sharon!  And many more and may they be healthy ones!

I left home at 8:00 a.m. to travel to Sylacauga, AL, to attend the annual state Garden Club meeting--with committee reports preceded by a coffee with homemade sweets and savories.  It was held at the Presbyterian Church in Sylacauga.  After the lengthy reports and a patriotic presentation by a retired Navy Captain, we had a buffet luncheon which was very tasty.  Afterwards we each received a wrapped gift and started for home.  It was a long day, but enjoyable except for the length of the reports.

It's very chilly here this evening.  I have been sitting in my den since 5:00 watching the evening news on NBC and PBS and then listening to music on one of the classical stations on the TV.  I've been re-reading a favorite paper back book as I finished the books I picked up at the library on Saturday.  I will return them on this coming Saturday and bring more home.  I've decided to look for paper back books there as they will not be as heavy to carry up hill.

I'm hoping that Chris, the electric and gas maintenance man will be able to come here tomorrow to re-start my furnace.  I've had to get out my de Longhi electric heater to heat my den this evening.  I'm just about ready to go to bed and it will be uncomfortably chilly in there, so may move the heater to my bedroom for a bit more reading.

Sleep well, Buddies.

Good Morning, Buddies.

Sue....hope your furnace man called.

I updated my Ipad last nightand I find the keyboard has changed.  More letters available by sliding down in a key.  That will take some getting used to.

I hope Sharon had a Happy Birthday.  I posted to her on Facebook, but forgot to add it here.

Today is the Big Squeeze, and that always makes me anxious.  It's screening so I only know it's ok if I don't get the dreaded call to come back for more.  We're headed to Wisconsin as soon as I'm free for that, so it'll be a fun weekend.  My doc appt, usually a week after the mammo, was rescheduled for a few days later, as he will be in surgery next Thurs.  I've seen my surgeon for these follow-ups since my onc moved many, many years ago.

I hope Joy and GinnyAnn and Jeanne are all well and just busy.  We miss their posts.

Have a great weekend!  I'll be back in touch when we get home.

Jane

It's almost 9:00 a.m. and I'm hoping that Greg will show up any minute.  The temperature inside my house is at 66* and that's pretty chilly.  I don't know what it is outside, but I was pretty chilly when I went outside to pick up my newspaper.

Jane, I hope your "big squeeze" goes well today.  It's always a scary thing to go in and have to wait on the results.  Let us know as soon as you can.  How's the "mini vac" going?  (that's what Kris calls their short trips!).

My Thursday bridge group meets today at Terri's house.  I think Olyne will pick me up on her way there.  I sure wish Tim and my doctor will clear me for driving--and soon--but so far there is no indication that will be the case.  Being sidelined without driving privileges is the PITS!

Have a great day, every Buddy.

Happy Birthday Sharon.....hope everyone is having great day...Darlene

SharonE

Thank you for all the nice birthday wishes.  I had a lovely day.  I put a pot roast in the crock pot with veggies in the AM so I wouldn't have to do any work for dinner.  We went out last Sat. to celebrate. Then I decided I wasn't going to stay home alone on my birthday, so I dropped off cleaning, dropped off and renewed a book aat the library and then drove up to Pineville to get my Stein Mart fix.  Didn't buy much, just a nice black cardigan & some earrings & a new dop kit for John. The zipper broke on the one I got him 56 yrs ago!!  Think he got his money's worth?  Then I went to Babys R Us to get a gift for the new grandson soon to arrive.  I found the cutest "onesies"--a pkg of 4 for first Halloween, TG, Christmas, & Ny's.  I also got a couple books for Harrison including one called "Big Brother".  Then I went next door to World Market and barely got in the door when I realized I had exceeded my strength and back tolerance, so came home then.  Talked to all 3 kids, got lots of cards, and a beautiful bouquet of fall flowers in a basket from Brian.

I talked to Brian for a long time and got caught up on all of his news.  He does have a new job at Scott AFB beginning Nov. 6.  It deals with simulators for the C-17's etc, so up his line.  He isn't excited about it, but will do until he finds something more challenging.  He's been really busy with renovation, painting, etc on their "new" old house in Belleville, IL

Sue, was your friend's husband at Butler or PUrdue?  If he was at Butler, either John or Melanie might have known him. If so, let me know his name. Hope you got your heat on.  I need to call and get our furnace checked, but it isn't turned off and comes on automatically when it is too cold.

Jane, I am waiting for the results of my Mammogram also. Hate that.  Hope you have a safe drive and a nice visit in WI.

Mary, bet your nails look great.  Mine are in sad shape at the moment. I kept regular polish on for too long. I need to keep special strengthening polish on because of the chemo I had.  I have about 3 or 4 that split & tear & break unless I really take care of them.  I also take Biotin which is good for nails.  I loved it when I had acrylic nails when I was teaching, but that was before the BC.

Hi to Darlene, Ginny, Jeanne and Joy, and of course, Marilyn.   Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been up since 7:30, snuggled in for that extra 30 minutes!  I've had breakfast, showered and dressed for lunch with Tim and Kris, then shopping at Kroger with Tim before coming home.  We'll go to Amsterdam Café for lunch--our favorite.

Chris, the electrician/furnace guy came yesterday morning.  He went under the house and turned on the furnace and found one part that had to be replaced which he had in his truck, so it is all fixed and running.  It is a bit warmer today, but still "fallish"  so it will probably come on for a short time after it gets dark here.

Jane, I hope you get the mammo results soon.  When I have mine at the Cancer Clinic in Montgomery, I am told not to get dressed until the radiologist reads them--which is immediately--and that is in case another picture is needed because of something he or she has seen.  Because of the distance down there, I have agreed with Tim that I will start seeing Kris's doctor here in Opelika and I don't know what the procedure here is for a mammo.  I would hope that the wait is not several days to a week!  I'd be a nervous wreck.

Darlene, I hope you're having a great day, too.  It's bright and sunny here and I'm looking forward to lunch out with Tim and Kris.

Sharon, it sounds as if you had a nice birthday with John and a great shopping trip yesterday.  My friends are both Purdue graduates and also taught here at AU.  They've lived in Alabama a long time.  His first job here was as a pharmacist at a drug store in a small town north of here.  I'm not sure of what her field was.  She is still active with various groups at AU.  He died 2 years ago.  My nephew, Linda's oldest, is a graduate of Butler as is his wife.  They are both educators--he's a principal and she's a special ed teacher.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.  GinnyAnn and Joy, we'd like to hear from you!

Sue

Marilyn

Good Morning from Oregon. We had a lot of rain yesterday, thunder and heavy rain during the night. One of the cats was sleeping on our bed when the thunder hit and scared that cat so bad he ran off the bed and hid. We couldn't find him until. he came out from wherever he was this morning. Freckles doesn't like that either, I jumped up to put her Thundershirt on her and gave her a dose of Rescue Remedy to calm her.  Other than that adventure we are doing well. Just thought I better check in before I go to get my nails done

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.

Marilyn, that sounds like a bad thunderstorm!  I like listening to the rain at night, but hate lightning and thunder.  I'm a bit worried about a tornado when that happens for very long periods.  What is a Thundershirt?  I don't think I've heard that word before.

I slept until after 8:00 this morning.  I had breakfast, read the paper, then dressed for the day.  I took books back to the library (I walked there and back).  The walk is not bad going over as it's mostly down hill, but coming back is the pits--all up hill until the last block to my house which is finally down hill!

I hope Every Buddy is having a good day.  I'll be watching football games and reading after lunch.

Sue

SharonE

My big news is that our 3rd great grandson was born yesterday!! Melanie, Joc's mom, posted it on Messager yesterday and Joc called us this morning.  He was 7 lbs and 2.5 inches longer than Harrison, who is a tall boy!  But Henry, the father, is well over 6' too. I can't remember how much.  They named him Liam Jae Young Mei. (The Jae Young is the Korean name.)  She barely made it to the hospital. He was born 30 mins later, not time for pain meds!  She definitely didn't take after me on the amount of time it took her to deliver. Harrison, her 2.5 yr old, will meet his little brother today at the hospital. He is really excited. I hope he stays that way.

Sue, a Thundershirt is a tight-fitting dog jacket/shirt that makes them feel secure when it storms. Bunny doesn't want to be near a window when it is storming and prefers to be near us, but otherwise doesn't react a lot to storms.  Sounds like your walking is really improving and that you had a nice day with Tim and Kris.  Glad your furnace is up and running when needed.

I got my letter from the mamm radiologist yesterday. All okay.  If you ask for a diagnostic mammogram, you find out right away.  Mine was also 3-D, but I forgot to ask for diagnostic.

Marilyn, it must be like a zoo with all the animals reacting to the thunderstorm.  We keep our bedroom door closed.

Have a good day.  Sharon

jane

Sharon or Sue....I've learned that if they don’t call back  within a day here, it's all good.  If they need more “takes” or mri, etc., they call quickly.  Otherwise, all is good.

We are loving our stay here in northern Wi. Their place is absolutely perfect for them.

We explored the area yesterday, and are here at home in the woods while it rains.  Ray is coming down with a cold, so a quiet day is good.  We’ll head home tomorrow.

Jane

SharonE

Jane, re mamm notification, I think you're right, but I would prefer they tell me then & there. I'm glad you're having a good visit and that it is beautiful there. Sorry Ray's sick.  Have a safe trip home.  Sharon

jane

Congrats on the new baby, Sharon.

We're home and had a fabulous weekend in northern Wi.

Unfortunately, I had a message on my home phone to call the radiology dept about my mammo....so very anxious tonight.

Hope all your weekends were great.

jane

maryz

jane, glad you had a good weekend - but I hate it that you're having to deal with a call-back on the mammogram.

Sharon, congrats on the new baby!

Sue, I hope you're getting some nice rain, and no bad storms.

Hi, Marilyn and Darlene.

I haven't been writing much - things have been definitely quiet (not that that's a bad thing), and it would just be monotonous.
Friday, when I got home from swimming, the parking area nearest my door had been roped off, with no parking inside. Finding a new place to put my car, that was even remotely convenient to a door to the building, was a challenge.  I finally found a place fairly near the front door.  And there my car remains.
We're supposed to get a lot of rain overnight and all day tomorrow.  I'm going to play hookey tomorrow and just stay home all day.  It's farther to get to my car in the rain. I'm not comfortable driving in the rain under the best of circumstances - and certainly not in the dark.
My bridge partner is out of town for two weeks, so I'm not going to play duplicate tomorrow night.
I'm getting a lot of knitting done.  I'm about 2/3 of the way through with a summer-weight sweater for myself, and then I'm going to start on some baby sweaters.
I'm even getting some reading done.  I've just finished a new Joanna Brady book, and am currently about half-way through an Ivan Doig book I hadn't read before.
Jean is doing well after her accident.  The stitches have been removed and hopefully the scar will fade with time.

Thanks, girls, on the congrats on baby Liam.  I'm still waiting for a good picture.  When Melanie gets up there later this week, she promised to send me some.  Joc's mother-in-law is filling in the gap until Mel gets up there.

John left this AM for a tournament in North Charlotte.  Too far to drive home at 11:00 PM, so he will be up there for the week. He just called and said he arrived.  It is kind of yucky here today--misty, cloudy, cool, and supposed to rain hard this afternoon and night.

Mary, that's the pits that you have to park so far away. Is it a temporary thing?  I don't blame you for not going out again.  Sounds like you are keeping yourself occupied.

Jane, glad you're home safe, but not glad to hear you've had a call back on the mamm.  Prayers going out. Let us know as soon as you know something.

I just finished getting 4 birthday cards ready to go out--2 tomorrow and 2 while I'm in rehab that John will have to put out.  I have several other "business" things to take care of too.

Hi to all.  Sharon

maryz

Quiet everywhere today, I guess.  Looks like Sharon is getting some fierce weather today.  I hope it's not too bad. We had 1.7" of rain overnight and this morning, but the day ended  up in sunshine.  And much cooler.

Happy Monday, Buddies!

I drove Ray to Iowa City for his dental appt as the next one with the hygenist he likes would be in Jan.  He's now officially given me his cold, too.

I'll be glad when the new mammo pics are done.  I can't feel a thing....unlike my lump 28 yrs ago, so I'm hoping the radiologist just needed to see more tissue.

Otherwise, no plans for this week.  I'll skip bridge on Wed. As none of them need this awful cold.

Jane

Good morning all. Sharon congratulations on baby Liam...Jane. Prayers your way on mam repeat...are u having sonogram?..It's always scary...but God reminds us not to worry..it has jinally cooled off here...am going to increase my walking to 3 miles a day..weather permitting...see how long that last...I weigh 121 lbs...I sure don't want to lose any..in fact I would like to gain up to 130..Hi to Mary..Sue and Marlyin..any one looking in...have a great Tuesday..Darlene

maryz

Good morning, Buddies!  It's a lovely fall morning here.  The music of the day, though, is of men stomping around over my head, with accompaniment by lots of banging.  It's definitely music, though, because they're putting on a new roof.  This means no more leaking in my shower, and that I should be able to put my car back where I want it before too long.  We're supposed to have beautiful weather all week, so maybe that means no weather delays.

Glad you're getting some cooler weather, too, Darlene.

And jane, I'm so sorry about the cold - and hope the "good" call about the mammogram comes soon.  We're all nervous at that time of year.

Check in Sharon and Sue - I hope you didn't have any problems from yesterday's storms.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Hi Gals. We had storms and tornado warnings yesterday, but all of the bad stuff was west and north of us. Just rain here. I haven't gone out to check how much we got.

Mary, I know you are glad to have the roofers there, but please wear earplugs or find someone to go visit for the day while they are pounding away.  We had to have a new roof put on 6 years ago after a bad hail storm and wow did it give me a headache!  I know you will be glad to get your parking place back too.

Darlene, I'm glad it has cooled down for you.  I can't imagine wanting to gain weight!!  You are lucky! What did you decide to do with your hair?

Sue, I  hope you didn't have any damage at your house.

Jane, just waiting to find out what is wrong is the worst!  That's why I like the diagnostic mamm where the radiologist reads it then and there and tells you.  One time when I switched locations for my mamm, they called me back in for more views and an ultrasound.  By the time they had done all that, I was trying to wrap my mind around going through CA treatments for the 2nd time. However, I was just borrowing trouble; it was just a calcium spot that had been there for a long time.  Let's hope it is  something similar for you. Have you tried Coldeeze lozenges for your cold? It works like magic for me. Anyway, I hope you get over it quickly.

Marilyn, what are you up to?  Glad you got your garage door fixed. What about the laundry leak?

Jeanne, you haven't posted for a long time. I hope you aren't sick.

Hi to Joy and Ginny too.  Sharon

Cottoncandy

Hi Sharon..I have decided to get low lights...now to figure out a color that would blend with the grey or let the hairdresser decide Darlene

Marilyn

The garage door was a no-brainer for the tech, he just pulled the roped supper hard and the thing snapped back on the track. The laundry room leak? well, I doubt that is going to happen anytime soon.  Gilbert calls Keith Furgal Keith, I say tightwad to his face and laugh. Nothing I can do about the leak until. he agrees to get the roofers out here. I really need to get busy on the guardianship and POA though.
