With the change of the clocks, and weather, I am dreading the weather ahead.  Sitting at the computer, as usual, I took one photo, a panorama from Oglebay and put it into Windows Movie Maker.  Real short one, hope you enjoy, and be sure to click full screen.

Oh Jack.  Those are our BEAUTIFUL HILLS--the ones we sang about in our state song when we were youngsters.  I still love that old song--although West Virginia has changed the state song to John Denver's ALMOST HEAVEN, WEST VIRGINIA.  We have a few small hills here in Auburn, but nothing like the ones near Birmingham or those in your area of West Virginia.  Thanks for posting this beautiful memory!

Sue

FlaJean

Jack, that is a lovely panorama.  I enjoyed the music.

jackwv

Jean thanks and while I lack the views you have in your area, you can see why I never get bored.

Sue I left West Virginia at the age of 10 and did not return till 1960 at the age of 30.  Had to look up Beautiful Hills.   Now here in my area we only have hills, not mountains like much of the state.

Do not know if I told my story about "Almost Heaven'   My granddaughter was with her mother in Paris earlier this year.  At the foot of the Eifel Tower, there was an Asian street performer playing the guitar.  He tried Almost Heaven, had trouble with the lyrics and my Granddaughter from West Virginia stepped up and joined him.  He was pleased as were the tourists.

That is quite a picture - the Eiffel Tower in Paris, an Asian singing near it and a girl from West Virginia singing a song about West Virginia with him.

My memory of West Virginia is when I was older, driving through a tunnel and having to honk to let others know we were on our way, also the view through some wooded area before the trees were leafed out, but dainty dogwood trees scattered in those woods.  Well, I also remember my dad showing me the house where I was born, but that's not scenic.  We were there in 1950.

Still a lot of whitecaps on Lake Michigan.

FlaJean

I don’t like mountains or mountain driving unless the roads are nice and wide.  But I do love rolling hills.

Shirley

I'm on the run again but couldn't get the picture out of my head of your gr-daughter, Jack, singing "Almost Heaven"... hope Mom took a video of the moment, what a memory!

Joy

Jack, that certainly had to have been a memorable happening.  I, too, hope they got a video of it.  Like Mary Ann said,  it sure does paint an interesting picture.   Thanks for sharing that great story.

Cold out so back to the computer.  Took a group of photos I had of the Pittsburgh Zoo, used Photopeach  so take a look, full screen.

Jack, good shots of the animals at the Pittsburgh Zoo.  I think the side shot of the tiger showed his markings which I liked.  Very distinctive.

Mary Ann

Joy

Jack, nice video.  Like the idea of the animals being free to roam.  I am sure that they are fenced in someway, but nice they have nice grassy area and all the trees around.  Almost reminded me of the Animal Kingdom at Disneyworld.   Beautiful animals and look so clean and well taken care of, which I am sure they are.

Out this evening with son and a few friends.  Like to have a few Gin and tonic and some "quiet" conversation.  The pub was having entertainment tonight and were rehearsing.  Kidded that if they took requests I would ask them to tone it down.  Am sure the youngsters like it but my choice is still Crosby, Como and Sinatra.  :)

Larry took these photos with the iPhone yesterday when I was in the library.  They are unedited so what you see is what the iPhone took.  I just put them in iMovie and added some music.  The Christmas lady of Niceville was not able to find any location big enough this year for her display so we don't have the usual display.  However, Niceville did a very nice job of decorating around all the city buildings.

jackwv

Jean thanks to you and Larry.   Niceville lives up to its name.  To me it has a small town feel and they do a great job.

Mary Ann

Jean, Niceville has a Nice Christmas Display.  As Jack said, it has a small down flavor.  Thanks for the video and Larry did a very good job.

Mary Ann

Sato

Jean, it is a very nice video that shows the Christmas season has been enjoyable.

Sorry absent from this forum a long time,
I need to take more rest for me.
White snow weather will come soon,
Everybody, take enough care for yourself.

jackwv

Sato It is always good to hear from you.  Hope your health is improving and that we will hear from you again soon.

Mary Ann

Sato, you take care of yourself, too.  It is always good to hear from you so pop in once in a while just to let us know how you are.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

Thank you Jack, Mary Ann And Sato for your kind words.  I was not well most of November so Larry took over all photo duties, but he refuses to do videosâ€"-says it is too confusing.  :). It is very cold here today but nice and cozy in the house where I plan to stay!

Lindancer

SAto, I join with the others welcoming you back, on a snowy day here in NY

FlAJean, The first time I was in Niceville, Dennis had flew in to Fla fro Germany, for a week looking to buy a house in Niceville,as they were going to be station at the AFB as they had had two back to back tours of duties Turkey for two years, then Germany for two. I said you cannot buy a house in a week, we only looked in Blue Water Bay. and of course he found one. I think the only thing in Niceville then was a very small strip mall with two rest. and a couple of small store, Of course no bridge to the beaches, we had to ride around This was about 30 years ago.

Jean, thank you for the lovely video images of Niceville!  I enjoyed all the Christmas decorations, but especially the beautiful flowers which were so pretty, especially the red and white ones--were they mini azaleas?  Or some other lovely blooms?

Sue

Shirley

Jean & Larry, such a special treat, thank you both for sharing your wonderful town.  I finally found my password for Vimeo so left a message in there.... I am really impressed with the decorations & flowers, great job from the "town folks" and from you two.    :christmastree:

FlaJean

Thanks for the remarks on my video.  I did see your note on Vimeo, Shirley.  Looking forward to more of your Colorado photos.

Linedancer, we also live in the Bluewater Bay Area.  I’m sure you would be surprised at how the area has grown since you were here, but it is still a small town.  I’m glad they built the bridge to Destin.  We enjoy going there for occasional shopping and dining out.  Just a few miles down the road from Destin is one of those huge outlet malls.  I’m too old for all that shopping but my daughter loves going there.

Sue, there were Azaleas blooming and some poinsettias.  It is supposed to get down to 32F tonight so they may look so good tomorrow.  Maybe they will cover them.

JeanneP

Jean. What a beautiful Job they did. Some places seem to overdo. Your towns perfect. You always seem to find the best areas to live. Library looks so nice.

I am getting to feel better and nice to read S and F again. You all seem to be doing so well.
JeanneP

FlaJean

JeanneP, sure have been missing you, especially in “What’s for dinner”.  I thought you might be visiting your daughter.  If you have been sick, I sure hope you are doing OK.

junee

FlaJean. Could not leave a message in video, guess I have forgotten my password but had to tell you how much I enjoyed my walk around Niceville.   Hope you are well and back on that camera of yours very soon.
