Good morning.......I feel so much better after a good night of rest.  Thank you all for the good wishes❣️

Today is the 19th anniversary of the dreadful Columbine High School massacre.  After this happening, I personally hoped and prayed this could and would NEVER happen again.......we all know the rest of the story.😢

Today we also have to unfortunately deal with the huge annual display of idiots smoking pot in public in our beautiful park in downtown Denver!  I sure hope they clean up afterwards better than they did last year.  It sure seems to me that these people should have SOMETHING much better to do with their time than this😩!

LLOYD, loved reading about you getting your bees....except when you got to the part of being stung!

GLORIA, I remember well reading WEEPING WITH PRIDE when Our Joan posted it.  Thank you for sharing it again...... Sure isnice to have someone clean your teeth that can get the job done with out hurting you.  Enjoy your day of peace and quiet with out your CNA there bugging you!

AMY, safe travels to town today to pick up your fabric.  I do not do baths, so soaking in ebsom salts does not work for me, but I do use a cloth soaked in them under my heating pad on occasions if it is aspot that can work.

LARRY, you will have a lot of activity going on at your place today.  Happy you have people to help you out.  I hope the new cardio doctor will meet your needs.  There seems to be a lot of doctors changing locations these days.

JANE, are the “mooching geese” at the neighbors home just returning
after winter?  I do like the fact your groomer comes to you to groom your babies.

JUNE DEAR..... I hope this day will prove to be a good one for you.

I wis EVERYFRIEND a good Friday, no matter what you find yourself doing.

The geese are returns.  2 years ago Cheri fed them and they kept coming back.  Then they actually built a nest in her garden area and let her feed them while she hatched her young.  It was quite a sight to see.  He stood just out of reach and very near to his lady until the food was down and she had gone back inside, then he joined her for the food.

I'm home from work, ready to rest.  I'm eating more of the West African soup but I thought it was a bit bland last night so today I gave it some cagun flair with a little hot pepper and a little Asian flair with some Soy sauce.  I like it a lot better this way.

Gee, it's still morning and I feel the whole day has been filled up to over flowing. My cleaning lady arrived early and did the usual good job.. then when she finished my laundry was delivered ! Wow ! Talk about service !! For 55 dollars a month laundry is picked up weekly, delivered the next day. All on hangers or folded neatly, socks rolled in pairs, linen scarfs/doiles folded neatly. I feel like a queen. I really needed help though, as this new washer they bought is a puzzle to operate and not sufficient for the many that use it.

Time for me to go for lunch. see yu later. June.

Not a “goof”at all, JUNE.  YOU are covering all bases....some of us like color others are black and white!  Hahaha.

I sure wondered about your soup, JANE when I read the ingredients....really did wish I could taste it! Sounds like you doctored it up good to meet up to your taste buds. Cute story about the geese coming back. What fun.

We are going to meet Brian and Cathy for dinner tonight to celebrate her Birthday that was back on the 8th.  We look forward to seeing them as it has been much too long.

Enjoy the rest of your day, EVERYFRIEND.

What a lovely day, a real treat to not have snow!! Temp is 44 ° F at the moment and snow is melting. I shovelled off my clothesline stand ..again.  and hope to hang laundry out in the morning.

Larry, I guess it knows my name or rather how to push my buttons :)

Mary Ann, no we didn't feel it up here, last one we had was in 2013 , it was a 5.2 and it did shake the house.

Jane, that must be a sight to see, hope you are taking some photos of the goosey gathering.

Enjoy your evening everyone..

Jenny and Micheal.......You two deserve medals for being so kind and understanding. Thank you. I honestly do find that I am losing bits and pieces of my mind though. The typing errors..hitting the wrong keys and other stupid stuff. And sleep.....I sleep more hours than I am awake. I'm not seeking sympathy, I am simply letting you know where this old gal is failing. I have been blessed with a  long and interesting life so I want no sad songs set for me, just lots of happy loving memories, and Loving all of you......what a joy !!!!!

Now "onward and upwards" for all of us brave soldiers here.

No pictures of the goose gathering AMY.  I heard about it second hand.  It happened, not last summer but the summer before.  I just saw two geese standing outside the fence a couple days ago.  I haven't had a chance to talk to Cheri to see if she's feeding them this year.

I wish you all a good night.  I'm off to early bed tonight.  Tomorrow, I have to remember to get to the photo license office to get my license renewed.  It's only open Friday and Saturday and I can't go next week.

You're right, JENNY, the seasonings did bring the soup up to my liking.  It was OK before but it's lots better (in my opinion) this way.

Almost forgot to say, JJNE, we don't care HOW you post.  We just like it when you do.  Don't worry, we're good at sorting out what everyone means.  We love you!

Good morning everyone..

Looking to be a lovely day here and soon will have laundry out on the line. I didn't pick up my fabric yesterday as her hubby flew out the door without it. He is coming back into town today so I may go in and get it..

June ,Mycheal is right, we will take you any ole day and any way, just as long as you post.

Jane, I heard ducks go over, then crows started calling for their breakie and then the pup (Babe) decided I need to be up and laid across me and poked her nose in my face! Yes, time to get up.

Jenny, hope you  enjoyed your dinner with Brian and Cathy. Nothing like great company and great food .

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Joy

Good Saturday morning.   It is a pretty sunny morning, but still only in the 30's.   Hoping for it to warm up a little bit more.

I am waiting to hear if my grand daughter and her family will be stopping by on their way back home after being in Myrtle Beach for the week.  She had told me that they might be able to stop and see me, but so far, have not heard from her.   I had talked to her brother yesterday and we were hoping that we could all meet up and go to dinner.  So, it will be a "wait and see" thing.

Supposed to be a nice week end and then rain beginning on Tuesday for a few days next week.  Had some plans for Tuesday, but think I will cancel them.  I have enough trouble walking when the weather is nice, so don't want to take any chances in wet weather.  Something that can wait until a nicer day.

June, it is always nice to see you whenever you visit us.

Jane,  hope you won't have to wait too long to renew your license.  Then, you will be "good to go".    I thought your soup sounded really good. I love to try different things.  Might not eat them again,  but will try something once.  My son is a good cook and is always coming up with different varieties of special dishes.  Never know what he will be fixing when I go to dinner there.

Jenny, sure hope you will be feeling lots better this morning.  Hope you were able to enjoy the birthday dinner.

Have a great Saturday !!!

Good morning everyone 35°. Last night I decided to make scrambled eggs. I just felt like they would hit the spot. Goodness now I cannot even cook them. I was completely worn out and could only eat a little. This back of mine stops me from doing most anything grrrrr. Still hurts this morning and I did not want to get out of bed. No coffee this morning but at least I can make my oatmeal. I get the water boiling add the oatmeal, shut the burner off, cover the pan and set the timer. When it goes off I will add the milk.

LARRY  what a bummer when you have a doctor you like and they move too far away and you have to get a new one. Sun again this morning and not as windy.

JENNY  every time I go anywhere it takes a few days to rest up. I do hate that. Glad I saved so many of the stories that  Joan posted over the years.

JUNE  I am thankful my CNA can do my laundry, I cannot do it anymore. As long as you keep posting every day we do not look for errors, I really never notice them.

JANE  you and my daughter do the same. Follow a recipe the first time and the second time she puts her own tastes to it.

AMY  crows have been noisy around here lately.

JOY  I dislike having to go anywhere when it rains but some appointments take months to get so out I go.

Have a good day.

When the Music Stopped...

When the Music Stopped... (For those who are unaware: At all military base theaters, the National Anthem is played before the movie begins.)

This is written from a Chaplain in Iraq :

I recently attended a showing of 'Superman 3' here at LSA Anaconda. We have a large auditorium we use for movies, as well as memorial services and other large gatherings. As is the custom at all military bases, we stood to attention when the National Anthem began before the main feature. All was
going well until three-quarters of the way through The National Anthem, the music stopped.

Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-22 year-olds back in the States? I imagine there would be hoots, catcalls, laughter, a few rude comments, and everyone would sit down and yell for the movie to begin. Of course, that is, if they had stood for the National Anthem in the first
place.

Here in Iraq, 1,000 Soldiers continued to stand at attention, eyes fixed forward. The music started again and the Soldiers continued to quietly stand at attention. But again, at the same point, the music stopped. What would you expect 1000 Soldiers standing at attention to do?? Frankly, I expected some laughter, and everyone would eventually sit down and wait for the movie
to start.

But No!!... You could have heard a pin drop, while every Soldier
continued to stand at attention.

Suddenly, there was a lone voice from the front of the auditorium, then a dozen voices, and soon the room was filled with the voices of a thousand soldiers, finishing where the recording left off:  "And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag
was still there. Oh, say does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave, o'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave."

It was the most inspiring moment I have had in Iraq and I wanted you to know what kind of Soldiers are serving you. Remember them as they fight for us!

Pass this along as a reminder to others to be ever in prayer for all our soldiers serving us here at home and abroad. Many have already paid the ultimate price.

Written by Chaplain Jim Higgins LSA Anaconda is at the Ballad Airport In Iraq, north of Baghdad.

God Bless America and all of our troops serving throughout the world.

Hi Everyone.  It is another beautiful and sunny morning and we headed to the mid-70's this afternoon although we are now only in the mid-40's.  I don't have too much on the schedule for today.  I have emptied the ice bin and letting the container thaw out and lose all the shavings frost that seem to build up.  I made Pat's breakfast.  I will decide a little later whether I will attend a meeting this morning or not depending on my strength level at the time.  Yesterday I did go downtown and picked up Elizabeth at Scott's house and brought her out here for a couple of hours.  She cleaned up the attic and brought down a lot of boxes that I had saved up there and generally rearranged and straighten up things.  She did the same in the garage and took a few things up to the attic that have been in the garage since we moved but which I didn't want to discard.  I also had her trim off the top of the three small shrubs on either side of the walkway and on the other side of the driveway.  She did all the work but I was the one ending up tired as stayed with her as she worked.  I was glad to get these things done.  A 19 year old has a lot of energy.

Jenny, nice to read you were feeling better yesterday.  I saw in the news that people were warmed to stay off the roads after about 4:30 yesterday do the the annual pot smoking day on 4/20.  I was shocked at my cardiologist leaving as she had only joined this practice a little over a year ago after being under contract to the University Hospital Cardiology Department.

Jane, I don't care of bland soup either.  I hope your spicing it up made it more enjoyable to you.  I don't want ducks or geese building a nest in my yard as I had enough of them when growing up on the farm.  I hope you didn't have a long wait at the license bureau this morning.

June, you deserve to be treated like a Queen.  Glad you are having the laundry service.  I often do the folding of laundry and it is very tiring, especially those dreadful fitted sheets with the elastic all around.  Sometimes I feel like doing what the man in the TV commercial of some ago that got so frustrated that he threw them on the floor and stomped on them.  I haven't done that yet but have thought about it.  I see Jenny and Mycheal expressed what I was thinking when I read your posting and agree it wasn't a goof but a thoughtful posting.  Keep up the good work.

Amy, glad you had a warmer day yesterday. Hope you get your fabric today.

Joy, time spend with family is the best and sure hope your granddaughter and family stop to see you.  It is wise not to risk being out in wet weather if you don't have to do so.

Gloria, I wish I could make some eggs for you to eat.  That is the one thing I have learned to cook well and just fixed some for Pat this morning to go with the sausage patty.  I put some shredded cheese on top of the eggs and sometimes a little salsa or some chopped peppers and onions.  I also fixed her some of the fresh strawberries.  I see how much of a struggle it is for her to stand in the kitchen so have some idea of what you are enduring with your back pain.

JaneS

I only had to wait about 10 minutes including the time after the photo was taken.  The lady always says, "There's your photo on the screen.  How is it?"  I gave everyone in the room a laugh when I said, "It's awful but unfortunately it's me!"  I just can't seem to smile when someone tells me to do so.

LARRY, the soup was much better and if I make it again, I'll add more spices to it when I make it.

It's almost time for the doggies to start bugging me for a snack.  When they eat early in the morning, they want to snack early, too.

I guess I better get some paper work done before I begin to fade.  Enjoy your day Everyfriend!

We drove to Holland for brunch today so I was able to see the twin girls.  Both were napping when we got there but first Jo woke up and later Ellie.  The girls are 15 months old now and both walking quite good.  They were born two months early so probably don't act like full 15-month old children, but they're doing good for us.  The both put on their beautiful smiles and behaved beautifully.  Both were a bit shy with me for about five minutes, then started giving me toys and "talking" to me.  I wish we lived nearer each other.  A friend of Tom's was on his way home to Petoskey from California in his motor home and he contacted Tom while we were on our way to Holland, so Tom invited him to join us.

I have my laundry done for me too; Tom does it.  I don't do stairs now and the laundry/furnace room is in the lower level.  In fact, we bought a new washer/dryer set last year and I have no idea how to operate it.

Tom does a great job with scrambled eggs.  He puts onion and colored peppers in it along with grated cheese.  I usually have some when he makes them.

We are at near 60 degrees now, the first time in ages.  Temperatures for the next week will be at least in the mid to high 50s and I notice my little blue flowers are showing up in my front yard.  I did not wear a coat when we went to Holland today, just a sweater as a jacket.

Joy, I hope your granddaughter and family made it to see you.  They don't realize how disappointed we are when the younger generation can't make it.  I was always fortunate that when Tom and his family, who lived up north at the time, stayed with me so I was able to watch James and Annie grow up into nice adults.

I don't cook much any more, but except for cake and/or cookie recipes, I look at other recipes to find out what ingredients are used.  I used to bake a lot of cakes from scratch but now, if I were to bake one, it would be from a box.  Actually, we don't eat desserts now.

What a lazy day this has been. I can't think of one worthwhile thing I have done all day long.  I did shower bright and early, then my day fell apart. Have done nothing but nap and more nap.I would like to go down and watch Victor Borge on the big t.v. if I can stay awake long enough.  I'll let you know if I make it.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

I'm on my way to bed now.  I spent about 3 hours cleaning up the yard this afternoon and I'm exhausted!  You'd think I had a BIG yard and I don't.  I have a large bag of leaves and debris and two piles of sticks that need to be disposed of.  And I'm beat!  I used to do a lot more.  You don't suppose I'm getting old, do you?

Good Night Everyfriend.  God bless your sleep and wake you to a great day tomorrow.

Hi Everyone.  We have a cloudy morning but mild temperatures.  We could have a little rain later today but less than 50% chance at this point.  I am going to go to Sunday School and then come home and pick up Pat and we will go back to Church and out to lunch.  I plan on watching the end of the golf tournament and resting this afternoon.

Yesterday I decided I didn't have the energy to get out and attend my meeting so just stayed home all day. Yesterday afternoon Pat made some delicious banana nut bread.  I just finished a slice of it with my breakfast.  A few days ago I ordered a new white shirt from Costco and am wearing it for the first time this morning.  I am very pleased with the quality of the fabric and construction.  The price was very reasonable at $20 and free shipping.

Jane, glad you didn't have a long wait at the DMV.  In both Georgia and South Carolina they have improved their procedures so much as you take a number and there are plenty of seats so you don't have to stand in line like days of old.  I have never liked to see my own picture.

Mary Ann, did you know you would be going to Holland and getting to see those twins before it happened?  The twins sound like real delights.  We had a Marie Callendar chicken pot pie for our dinner last night with a slice of the banana nut bread.  I got a big box of the frozen pot pies the last time I went to Costco so have three more meals left as there were 8 in the box.  I only eat desserts when I have the opportunity.  However, seldom do I buy a dessert when we dine out as they are so expensive besides the fact I am usually full from the meal I have ordered.  The desserts we have at our Wednesday night dinners at Church are always small serving and they are just right.

June, I hope you got to see the Victor Borge video last evening. He was really a character but also a very fine pianist.

Jane, no wonder you were exhausted yesterday as three hours of yard work is tiring for anyone.  I hope you allowed yourself some rest periods during those three hours.

Amy, it sounds like you will have quite an array of vegetables with your roast beef.  I don't care for either turnips or parsnips.

Gloria

Good morning every one, 39° now, warmest it had been  this early so far.  Hea t still feels good  but soon it will be turned off till cold weather comes back in the fall. Last week weather guesser said rain Thursday and Friday for this week, just hear no rain then but on Wednesday it will rain. Joan was right when she called them GUESSERS.

LARRY  looks like Elizabeth did a lot of work for you. Wonderful, she sounds like a bundle of energy. I used to have it but now I have no more of it. Like you I used to hate folding those bottom sheets. Most of mine only have the elastic top and bottom but one has the elastic on the sides. At first I had trouble ffolding them and found a way to do it and have taught my CNAs how and they are surprised at how easy it is. I cannot do it anymore. Glad you have an idea of the problems I have cooking anything. I know just how Pat feels. Glad you can help her as much as you do.

JANE  you are asked to smile when they take your picture for you license?  Not here, I think they like a startled look on your face when they take it here. They ask you to sit and then look here and snap. Sadistic folks hired to take the pictures?

MARY ANN  I could do my laundry when I moved here but in the almost 4 years there is a lot I can no longer do. I like scrambled eggs with just the eggs but do like an omelet too. It was warmer here yesterday but when I went out I still had my winter jacket on. I lost so much weight that I say I have no more blubber to hold the heat in so am always cold. I used to bake more pies than cakes .Now I don't bake anything.

JUNE  hope you made it down to watch Victor Borge. I used to like watching him on TV. Bet seeing him in person was a treat.

JANE  you getting old?  :o  Not as long as you are young at heart and still working.

AMY  what time do you want me there for your roast beef meal? My mouth is watering already.
Have a good day.

Why be Concerned

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

"What food might this contain?", the mouse wondered. He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed this warning : "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it." The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap . . . Alone...

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it. It was a venomous snake whose tail was caught in the trap.

The snake bit the farmer's wife.

The farmer rushed her to the hospital.

When she returned home she still had a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup. So the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient:

But his wife's sickness continued. Friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.

But, alas, the farmer's wife did not get well... She died.

So many people came for her funeral that the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them for the funeral luncheon.

And the mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and you think it doesn't concern you, remember ---

When one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

YOU MAY WANT TO SEND THIS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER HELPED YOU OUT...

AND LET THEM KNOW HOW IMPORTANT THEY ARE.
REMEMBER - EACH OF US IS A VITAL THREAD IN ANOTHER PERSON'S TAPESTRY.

OUR LIVES ARE WOVEN TOGETHER FOR A REASON.

One of the best things to hold on to in this world is a FRIEND.

A good Sunday morning HELLO to all.

The sun is shinning and it is beautiful out after the nice rain and snow we received yesterday.  Everything is greening up and the trees are budding out....I do believe spring has arrived here in The Mile High City.

I am so happy to say that I think the worse is behind me regarding my episode of shingles.  I am so thankful to have  had a milder case of them due to the shingles shot.  I sure have appreciated all of your support and suggestions.

AMY, I would love to be joining you today for your meal also....it sounds yummy.

GLORIA, no smiling on a drivers license picture here in Colorado either!  They also make you remove your glasses!  I enjoyed WHY BE CONCERNED....thank you again for sharing these offerings from Our Joan.

MARYANN, what a nice treat for you to get to go to Holland to see the family. The twins are at a delightful age and I know it must be fun for you to spend time with them.

LARRY, you did not say where you and Pat plan to go for lunch today, so now I will just have to wait for tomorrow’s post to find out! Haha.  Enjoy your Sunday.

JANE, no wonder you were plum tired last night.....I do hope you rested well and are not suffering from your over working yourself!  Was their a penalty for letting your license expire?  I can sure
understand how easily that could happen.  I think I will look at mine and put a reminder in the calendar on my phone right now!

JUNE, I hope you enjoy a nice Sunday❣️

CAROL, when do you and Don head for Colorado?

I wish you all a pleasant day of rest.

Good afternoon, from a tired old lady. Nice sunny day, may reach 60

Tired still from being out all day Friday.  Then my granddaughter arrived at 9 yesterday morning, she had driven through from Tenn. She was on her way home to Cape Cod.She spent the day with me, first we went to the Lassies Grandma attic sale,  took a chance on some baskets.  I won one with a set of ladies tools in it and a gift certificate to the local hardware store. Did a little grocery shopping. Then to the Sea Basin, for a fish dinner. I got mussels and linguine. Then in the evening we set and talked and talked.  I had not seen her in 3 years.  So I have a good reason to be tired to day. I think I will just set on the sun porch with a good book.

Marilyne, when I went to work at he hospital in 1965, we had to wear turquoise uniforms.  Later we were allowed to wear street clothes, but no slacks, Much later were only allowed to wear slack suits.  I still have a couple   of set hanging in the closet.

Jean, what wonderful adventures you must of had, living out of the country,  I spent a month in Adana, Turkey, I could write a small book about that. I also spent a month in Germany at Christmas time. Loved that stay. I also spent a week inIceland

Larry, do you have a Long john Sliver Rest, near you?  When we lived in Charleston, that was one of our Friday things to do.  Their hush puppies were as good as my mother laws, and I thought she made the best.

Dot and I did our usual Sunday thing, church and Mr Burger, and had a Tuna Melt along with a piece of coconut cream pie and coffee.  They were very busy and we had to wait a long time for our number to be called.  I was lucky to get a booth right away.

When I started work, it was normal for women to wear skirts.  I remember in 1983 I broke my leg and I wore slacks during that time, but returned to skirts when the cast came off.  We did not really have a dress code but it was the time we were in.  Later one of the women who was too old to do so, wore hot pants.  Now, I wear slacks during the fall, winter and spring and I can't tell anyone the last time I wore a dress!  Things do change.

It's a beautiful day and suppposed to stay that say all week.
