I don't know if those who click on a function (color, font, etc) are highlighting the copy for each function or not, but I and others have found it necessary.  Highlight, click on font, highlight, click on color, highlight, click on size.

Try it to see if it works.

Hi Everyone. I am going to go ahead and post this evening as I have plans for tomorrow morning and won't have much time before I leave.  We are having a fund raiser at our Church to raise money for our Bolivia mission trip next year.  It is called "Pancakes for Bolivia".  I plan to attend that and then go on to my Saturday meeting.  Pat and I did go out and have BBQ for our late afternoon meal.  Now just enjoying a quiet evening.

I want to share how I post as it might be helpful to come of you having difficulty.  I always two tabs for each discussion I write in.  On one of them I go to the "Quick Reply" posting box at the bottom of the page with the newest posting.  I then go back to where I last posted in the other tab and read each post.  If I want to comment on  something I just click on the other tab and write my comments.  Before I start any posting I add this coding:  [ size=14pt][ b] [ color=black] but without the added spaces before size, b, and color.  You can replace the size with another size or change the color.  Once you have your coding as you want it you could save it on your desktop or in notepad and then just copy it from where it is saved and paste in the posting box.  If you hover the mouse over the little symbols on the strip above the posting box it tells you what the function is.  If you put the coding at the beginning of your posting you do not have to highlight and no closing coding is needed.  If you wanted to highlight a sentence with a different color then you would need to highlight and the click on the applicable code symbol and select what you want.

When you click on the Preview box next to the Post box before the message you will see how your posting is going to look and have the opportunity to make other changes.  If someone posts while you are preparing your posting Those posts will show up.  Just don't forget that you still have to hit the Post box after doing the Preview to send your message.

I hope none of you will be discouraged and stop posting.  In the preview mode you do have access to the emoticons that you do have see in the Quick Reply box.  If you need help please feel free to email me and if you will give me your phone number I will call you and walk you through this.  Over the years there have been several update of software and that is what has happened here. Don't be afraid to click on the various symbols in the strip above the posting box or where it says "Attachments and other Options" below the box.

Joy, If you put the coding in before writing anything, like I indicated above, you should get the results you want. If you have already written something the program doesn't know where to apply font or other changes unless they are highlighted and then it applies the coding just to the highlighted words.

ShirleyN, so sorry that you are facing new medical challenges.  I will be praying for your recovery.

I may take the day off from posting tomorrow but don't worry about me as I am fine.

Mary Ann

I am so sorry to hear about Shirley N.  I hope the reports turn positive and have not spread through the body.  Shirley, if you read this, I will let Dot know.

Marilyn and anyone else who cares - the Soo scene has been changed back to the site we prefer.  We don't know how long that will last, but they seem to alternate.

Mary Ann

angelface555

Larry, your explanation was basically what I did before the change. There are too many errors to be able to do that now. I have gotten three or more emails from folks unable to get in at all, even with new monikers and passwords. I know I have had to rewrite each post I've tried today with more than two attempts. I'm seriously thinking of waiting until it is working before continuing on. A good example is times and dates are messed up. I tried to post a message per Shirlyn and was repeatedly told there was someone attempting to post ahead of me, there wasn't.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I can't say I've had trouble getting in but whenever I click on a folder, I am taken to the top of the page.  I click on Go Down and if there are multiple posts, I work my way up.  I find for every function (Bold, Font, Color) I have to highlight the message individually, but it worked.  I am sure there are more bugs to be worked out.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

I will be praying for Shirleyn.  That's bad news.

This new forum literally gives me a headache.😟  everything looks so small even with my new eyes.  It could be because I use my iPad.  I am going to drop out.  Maybe check back at a later date if I'm still on the member list.

Marilyne

Jean - I hope you don't leave us! I know this is rough, and no one understands why these changes were made?  We were all happy with the original version of Seniors and Friends. It's especially difficult for us older folks to adapt to change - unless it's really necessary.  I hope we will eventually get used to this, and that the things we liked about the old version will be added to this new one.

Joy

Oh, Jean, Please don't leave us !!!!   We need you !

I, too, had thought of dropping out, but I did come back this morning and worked on it some more.

I tried the suggestions that MaryAnn gave.

After I wrote my message, I went back and highlighted 3 times....one time to make the print BOLD..... 1 time to change the COLOR  and 1 time to change the size.   Takes a minute more than how I usually did it, but it WORKED !!!

Please keep trying.  I know it is frustrating.  And, as Marilyne stated it does take us older people to adapt to change.  BUT, YOU CAN DO IT !

I, also,  want to let Shirleyn  that I will be thinking of you.  Thoughts and prayers will be with you.  Please DON'T GIVE UP !!  Listen to all your options before you make any kind of decisions.  There are  so many, many new medicines and treatments that are available.  Just hang in there and know that you will get lots of support from your friends here.  I can attest to that !!!!

They all were wonderful, supportive and encouraging  when I had problems a month or so ago.

HANG IN THERE !!

Please go to this site with your questions, so Michael is aware of your issues. While I am very appreciative of everyone helping each other, to me, it would help if Michael were mindful of our problems and could seek a solution.

I see my little emoji icons are in fine shape today.

Shirleyn, please know that I am thinking of you and am hoping for a good outcome on your PET Scan.

This morning I went over to George's to feed his cats, but otherwise I feel feel like I have lost half a day messing around on the computer. Laundry and cat litter cleaning await me this afternoon.

Joy

MarsGal,  I have many days that I feel like I have lost from just messing around on the computer.  But, it does give me a lot of pleasure and if I really have to do something important,  I will set my timer for just the amount I have to "mess" around.

I think something is going on along the Duluth channels tonight.  There are a lot of cars parked on a parking lot and other are going in.  I have an idea it is a Christmas display.  I saw the Hillside and Pier B cams that seem to cover it.  I have no idea what, but I plan to look in about 8 pm my time EST.  I could be very wrong, but I'll see what I can find out.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Mary Ann,. Wonder if it's a tree-lighting event?  I noticed the Pier B cam was focused on the area with the big evergreen tree and, the other night, there was a row of smaller lighted trees along the edge near the road. That would be fun to see.  Wish we had sound because I'll bet there'll be Christmas music.
Surely aren't many ships going in and out.

CallieOK

Duluth webcam alert.  Go now to hillside cam.  The park with the pavillion is beautiful with Christmes lights.  Per B cam is another view.  Wow!!

Mary Ann

Callie, I'm glad you saw the display.  I found that Bayfront, Pier B and Hillside cams all give good views.  I am wondering if it is going to be open every night until Christmas or if it is a weekend event.  From my distance, I think they did a very good job.  The Christmas tree changes color.

Hi Everyone. It is Saturday afternoon and I am watching the University of Georgia beat UMass and beating them handily.  A little while ago I helped Pat put together a pineapple upside down cake that is now finishing in the Instant Pot.  It made two small cakes so when this one is done she will put the other one in to cook.  We have some left over stew for our supper and a piece of this cake will really hit the spot.  I can't remember the last time she fixed one but always liked them.  This one is made with a pineapple cake mix and rather than the traditional Maraschino cherry, which I do not care for, she is using a half of a pecan, which I do like.  It has been a beautiful day.  This morning I make a quick trip to Walmart to pick up prescriptions for both of us and then down to the Church for the pancake breakfast that is held each year to raise money for our Bolivia Mission Team. I then went on to my regular Saturday morning meeting.  So it has been a full day and I will probably feel it tomorrow.

Patricia, I am sorry you had problems with this new format.  I have had to search for some of the controls and actions but they are all there.  I just keep clicking on things until I find what I want. I see Oldiesmann has made more adjustments just since yesterday.  Yesterday I couldn't get into the folder for the recipes but today had no trouble and was able to update the Recipe Indexes.

Jean, as Marilyne has said I sure hope you won't leave us.  I haven't tried to post from my iPad or my phone.  If I don't forget I will leave a message for Oldiesmann and ask him to increase the size of the font that is preset for this posting box.  It also needs to be darker for our older eyes.

Joy, before you start typing your message set your font, size and bold or any other settings and you shouldn't have to then highlight and set the action.  You don't need the closing tags but they are fine and just be sure to type between them.  I just  use [ size=14pt][ b] [ color=black] without the spaces before the size, bold and color (I have these saved in a note that I keep so I can quickly copy and paste it into the message boxes.  Then you don't have to worry about starting between the codes.  (I hadn't realized this until sometime ago Patricia told us about not needing the code.  After you have written you might want to highlight something and then just highlight that word(s) and you will have that code applied only to those words.

MarsGal, I remember the days of cleaning the litter box and it was not a fun job.

Larry, I clicked on the Bold, Font and Color icons first and now I'll see if it works that way.  I really have had no problem with highlighting three times.  Of course, If I used more of the features, I might not feel that way.

Tom got at my Christmas message pictures today and we had to make some changes.  He thought I was having the pictures done on photo cardboard and I was not.  I want it on paper so I can write a message on the back, also identify the people in the pictures.  He said Walgreen's only does the pictures on photo cardboard so that lets them out.  They charge $4 a sheet and for 20 sheets, that is a tad more than I expected or want to pay!  He found that Office Max or Office Depot (one and the same now?) will charge $1.80 a sheet.  For an additional 3c they will fold the papers but as I want to put a message on the back, I will do the folding.

If you haven't seen the Duluth canal Christmas display, look at it; it is very big, covers a lot of territory and is very colorful.  There are no ships scheduled this evening, and I'll have to see about other evenings.

I don't like the "Reason for editing:" and I don't put anything down.  Incidentally, clicking on the icons did not work for me so I probably did not do it right.  I did my usual method and that worked.

Mary Ann

Joy

MaryAnn,  I remember seeing one of the cameras a couple years ago that showed the big park that is decorated for Christmas, and if I remember correctly,  it is open throughout the Christmas holiday until the New Year.  It looks like a beautiful display.  I remember reading a write-up about it somewhere. I will try to find that again.  That park does have a name, but don't remember what it is.

Joy

Good Sunday morning.

Happy Birthday, Sandy.  Hope you have a nice day.

It is cold here, also.  And, I also heard, that Thanksgiving day will be our coldest day so far this winter.

I need to get myself moving.  I have been awake since around 5 and tried to get back to sleep, but finally got up. I have had breakfast and need to get dressed.  I am also expecting a grocery order around noon, so need to make sure a have a clear space on the counter to unload the groceries.  I think I ordered everything I need for Thanksgiving and the coming week.  My contribution to the dinner will be a chocolate pie and a sweet potato casserole.  And, I have a pumpkin pie in the freezer that only needs to be baked.  So, it will all be easy.  My youngest son and I will be going to my grandson's for dinner.

MaryAnn, I checked out  the website for the Bentleyville Christmas display and it sure looks like it is very nice and lots of free things to offer. I think I read where this is the 15th year for it.  I would love to be able to go there in the summer to actually see one of the ships come through the canal and under that great bridge.  Lots of summer activities in that area.  I have a friend whose son lives in Minneapolis, and whenever I get to see him, he will always tell me that if I come to see him, he would take me to Duluth.  And, oh, how I wish I could take him up on that deal. But, like you, I am afraid my long distance traveling is out of the question now.  Watching a ship come through the canal sure isn't the same as being there in person, but it will have to make do for now.

I did see a ship come through the Soo canal the other night after midnight.  Just happened to look at the site after you mentioned that the original camera was back and a big crane or something was being raised up and I could see "something" moving on the right hand side of the screen.  And, finally the ship came into view.  I am guessing that it had already come through the locks????  I wish there was one that showed the ship being raised or lowered.

I need to get myself going.  Hope everyone will have a good day.

Joy - Thank you for the link to the Christmas Display at Duluth. I'll keep it on my desktop so I can look at it off and on over the Holidays.  I've been awake since 5:30 also!  I finally got up at 6:00, and cleaned up the kitchen from last night's dinner. We only had soup and toast, and some ice cream, so I didn't bother with the clean-up last night.  Now I feel like I can enjoy my coffee, which I'm drinking right now!

Sandy - Birthday Greetings to you!  I hope you have a nice day, and that you can spend some happy time with little Fe. :)

Mary Ann - I see that you and I are one of many here, without a profile picture.  The new one of you and Dot and Tom, is a lovely picture of you. That would be a good one for you to use as a profile pic.

WJOAN, sent me a Facebook message, that she's home from the hospital! She didn't say anything else. I wrote back and told her we would like to hear from her here in B&T, with an update on how she's doing. I hope she isn't put off by the new format, and that we'll hear from her soon.

I also hope that we hear from SHIRLEYN very soon. If I hear from her again on Facebook, I'll let you all know.

Time to replenish my coffee, and start thinking about breakfast. It's 7:30 here, with a long, long day ahead.

Mary Ann

While it's chilly here, the sky is clear and no snow predicted; we'll see how that works.

I'm watching golf on mute.  There are a lot of familiar names but also some unfamiliar ones.

I hope many of you watch the festival at Duluth - if it continues tonight - and I found the best view was on the Hillside cam.

Being Sunday, Dot and I did our usual at the Cholesterol Pit (the owner probably would have a fit if he knew we called it that) after church.  We had a delicious pie but I have no idea what it was, only that it was a cream pie.  And, of course, our Tuna Melt.

I need a nap and I'll have to see if Kendrick wants to join me.

Hi Everyone. We have had a beautiful day and when we left Church this morning it was up to 67 degrees.  We did go to lunch at the Sunshine Grill and I came home and rested.  Yesterday was a busy day as I posted about late yesterday evening.  Just watching some football and both of my pro teams last this afternoon.  However, the 4 college teams I follow all won yesterday so it was not a lost weekend in the football area.

Mary Ann, one thing I learned about using a computer many years ago is that there is usually about three different ways to do about anything on the computer. I guess I am lazy and if I can find the way that is the easiest that is the one I choose.  That is quite a difference in cost to have those pictures printed. You gave me a chuckle with your comment about having a delicious piece of pie but not having any idea what it was.

Joy, I will check out that link after I finish writing on the message boards. I expect people traveling for Thanksgiving will gladly take the cold to having to deal with snow and ice.

Sandy, I hope you have enjoyed a nice birthday today and was able to share it with family.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Marilyne, I didn't get up until about 7:30 this morning as had a busy day yesterday and am feeling it today.  We had beef stew and a nice piece of the delicious pineapple upside down cake that Pat had made shortly before dinner.  I will have another piece of it a little later this evening.  The Instant Pot makes small cakes that make 4 nice pieces.  The recipe made two cakes so she put one in the freezer for later.  Glad to hear that WJoan is now back from the rehab.

Yesterday I got some things I want to share with you all.  I found the first piece interesting the other funny.

We are all 2018 this year
Today the whole world is the same age.
Today is a very special day.
It happens only once every 1,000 years
Your age + your year of birth = 2018.
This is true for everyone.
It is strange and inexplicable.  Try it and see.
It will not happen again for another 1,000 years.
So..... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

First you load your gun then you get ready to hunt to find turkeys.  When
you find a turkey you get ready to shoot it.  You kill it and use the wheel-
barrow to get it home. Then you cook it in a big pot called a recipe pan.
Then you need to get out a big spoon and stir it up to cook it.  You
need some cream, too. You need to get some butter and put it in the
pan and let it melt. Take it out of the oven and chop it into little pieces so
everyone can eat it on Thanksgiving.
