I just got home with Farrah and no teeth removed thank goodness so I actually have a $130.00 credit with them from the paid estimate. She wasn't waking up right away from the anesthesia so they gave her a med which woke her. She was quiet all the way home but turning her head and looking at everything.

They said little bits of food and water tonight because her stomach might be a bit upset and a little grogginess perhaps. However, since I got home and let her out, she's been very affectionate and purring. Twice she flopped over for a tummy rub. I wonder if she thought I was abandoning her?

Regarding June, XML extensions can involve windows notebook files or chat files. It's possible that she is trying to use the chat function instead of the regular posting. Marilyne, from my earlier post; "Please, the .xml extension has absolutely nothing at all to do with June. It is an extension, not a login. I have no idea why her name at that time was associated with the extension, but she logged in coincidently an hour or so later. If you actually want to check a member's status, go to their membership account. An extension specifies a type of file not what a person has or hasn't done."

"Children who receive the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine are not at increased risk for autism, and that includes children who are sometimes considered to be in "high risk" groups for the neurodevelopmental disorder, a massive new study finds.

The new study, published today (March 4) in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine, is one of the largest studies of its kind to date."

Patricia - I'm happy to hear that Farrah came through her teeth cleaning ordeal okay.   SO glad that she didn't have to have any teeth extracted!   I thought about her a number of times today, and now good to know that it's all over with.   Give her a pat on the back from me - she did good!  :kitten:

Marilyne...
...I agree with you, she is either having problems in here and problems getting a posting to us, or someone else is trying to make a posting about her on her behalf, who is also having problems doing so...

I am just happy that I have now alerted other members to looking for June Drabeks name at the bottom of our page as being in our site... we just have to draw our own conclusions as to what is happening, why she cant post? if she has been in recently why isn't her profile showing this? is it her? or someone else ( her Dori or Gary ) trying to post on her behalf? a computer malfunction? or she hasn't shown in at all during these last 12 days?
Somewhere along the line someone is trying to make a posting - reading, or trying to get a message through to us...Yes trying to use our chat function is another possibility..

Could Oldiesmann unravel this mystery?

Mary Ann

Patricia, it seems Farrah came through her ordeal with flying colors.  She still has all of her teeth - and they're clean.  And you got some money back!

It seems hard to believe that March has begun with such cold temps.  Tom said it was 6 degrees in his car and it's only 13 on my thermometer.  Brr.  I'm happy I have nothing outside to do, unless Tom suggests lunch; then I'll be raring to go.

Hi Everyone. It is going to be sunny all day with a high in the low 50's.  I just want to check in this morning.

SCFSue

It's very chilly here this morning in Auburn, Alabama.  I've not dressed yet, but do plan to get outside when I get the kitchen cleaned up.  I still have lots of warm clothing left from our 2 tours in Brunswick, Maine, so I won't die from frost bite.

Yesterday after an appointment with my ear, nose, throat doctor, I watched television footage of the horrible tornado in Smith's Station, Alabama.  It's about 30 miles from my home.  Twenty three people are known dead and they are still looking for others who are missing.  About 6 children were outside waiting for their school bus when the tornado struck and all are dead.  Churches and other groups are taking food, water, clothing, etc. to Smith's Station.  There is a Methodist Church near the damaged area which is acting as a receiving station and also distributing necessities to those who are still able to stay in their homes despite heavy damage.  The survivors in Smith's Station need prayers and of course help.

I have my Monthly MS Social this evening, this is the one that is a 31 mile one way car journey into our next County, so be leaving in less than two & a half hours..I have always looked forwards to my once a month visit...Tonight's subject - topic will be our annual AGM, resume of the past year and accounts, this should have been last month but we had our fun talk with Kay Townsend on her history of her family's fairground during, before, and after the war. I know this went down well as my monthly newsletter said so, they will get her back again...This was the one I organised and mentioned when a year ago they asked for future ideas to come forward, as she had visited my local MS group on two occasions previously, so interesting, both talks and projection screen footage had gone down well...

A piece of interesting info Kay told us...

Quoting: " Also, I wonder how many of you remember going on a fairground ride where you sat in a rocket - shaped car? Did you know that you were actually riding in an auxiliary fuel tank that the bombers carried so that they could get safely back from their air raids?! "

Mary Ann

Sue, I'm glad you checked in and had no damage.  I had read your previous post where you mentioned the town where your son lives and that he had no damage.  It must be scary to live so close to the tornado.  We had one in 1956 and another in 1965.  The one in 1956 was four or five miles from us and there was a lot of damage.  The one in 1965 was at the south of town and sustained less damage (unless you were a part of it).  I feel fortunate that we have had so few but we are not in Tornado Alley.  I'm glad you are safe.

Jackie, enjoy your meeting today and enjoy the long ride!

Mary Ann...
..if there is one blessing most of the journey is a straight stretch and very little traffic but, very dark or non-lit road, well most of it once we are out of Dorchester, then a few roundabouts with road bollards where work is still in progress, seems to be never ending, now that part is a bit of a nightmare if one doesn't know where they are going, or which lane to get in...My number one nightmare  are the times I need to get out of the car for a bladder emptying before we reach our destnation..Pitch black laybys with cars whizzing past us, I cant venture far from the car door..but needs must be needs...a girl has to do what a girl has to do...

Brrr!  It is cold here.  Supposed to get up to low 50s by noon.  Don't think it is going to make it. 😊

It is good that June has her family close by.

Sue, glad you are OK but sure is terrible about the tornado.  Many years ago my husband, two small children and I were visiting his aunt in Delaware, Ohio, and there was a tornado during the night.  When we left town the next day, we could see damage to the nearby farms with roofs gone, etc.  what woke me up during the night was the hail hitting the windows.  Everyone else slept right through it.  Of course, it was a couple of miles away and not nearly as bad as the tornado in Alabama.

Mary Ann, having lunch out sounds like a good idea.

Vanilla-Jackie

At least this solves the mystery of was June Drabek in our forum and trying to make a posting..

I am saddened to hear - read, that she has been laid up in bed for this past week...yes it is reassuring to know Dori and Gary are with her...

Mary Ann

Amy and Jackie, thank you for posting the message from June's DIL that was in Soda Shoppe.  I was about to do the same thing but you both beat me.  I'm happy we know about her now.

Tom and I did go to lunch today at the Score, a sports bar.  We like to go there in the summer when the Score has installed palm trees and we can eat outside.  They have beach sand on the ground and it is a tropical setting.  I had a Stacker sandwich which had several slices of various meats.  A house salad came with it and it all was good.  As usual, I brought home half of the sandwich for my next meal because Tom will be gone.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

I'm also glad to see that June's dil, sent an email to Gloria, explaining why June has been absent for so long. I'm wondering about the situation yesterday, where we all saw June's name, but but no message.  I'm inclined to think that it was Dori, and that she logged in, using June's name, in hopes of posting a message.  She was probably looking for the forum, but was unable to find it, or a explanation of how to post a message, but got sidetracked and lost somewhere in xml. We'll never know, I guess.

Mary Ann - I remember you mentioning Score, the last time you went there. It sounds like an attractive and pleasant place to enjoy a meal -  especially in the Summer.  I'm sure there was no one sitting outside today!  I guess Tom didn't work this week at one of the schools?  Sandy's temp job is over, and she's been without work for a couple of weeks now.  I sure wish she could find a permanent job, so she wouldn't have to depend on these temp jobs.  Some of them pay really well, but always only for a short duration.

My hands/fingers are killing me today, and sitting here typing does not help that problem, so I'm going to take a break from the computer for a couple of hours, and will return later.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, somewhere yesterday (in some folder), I wrote that Tom was subbing at Cedar Springs yesterday.  That school is a charter school.  I think he will be subbing Friday but not Thursday.  My TV has been flickering on a couple of channels so Comcast will be here tomorrow to look into the situation.  I've got to move a few things in here to make room for the tech.  Tom will be here to oversee the visit.

While we continue to be cold, I see there are still rains in California, including Northern California.

Sandy.
Now I really could do fine without a car as I live close to everything within 4 miles. Also we have the best public Transportation than most cities in US they say. This is a University town and so that reason for it. Also seniors get a free bus pass and 50% of taxis.  Just that I have had a car in my drive for 60 years and feels awful without on. Does seem silly to pay so much for insurance when only putting about 1400 miles a year on car. Also all the cost of car. But will see. Suppose to see one tomorrow but may have to cancel. Reason

Thank goodness. I got 4 books at the library last week. Still without a car and tonight we are getting 3 to 5 inches of snow. Do not remember a winter like this in Illinois before. I fell like wall are closing in.
Found a new writer. love her books. Her name is Emily Giffin. I read the first one and then found 4 more of her books in LPrint Got them all. now into number 2.
Not even in the mood to be on the  computer. I need to get onto Comcast as my WiFi not working .Will try contacting them tonight if I feel like spending a long time talking to someone out of the country. Hard to get people in US.
We need to get some warmer weather and sunshine to get me into a better mood.

Hi Everyone on a beautiful sunny day with expected temps in the low 60's. Just checking in once again today as am very weary this morning even though I had a good night's sleep.  Scott was here last night for several hours and will be back this evening.  I was glad to see Gloria's sharing of the email from June's Dori and to know that she has her loving family looking after her.

Joy

Good morning.  Just marking my place for now and will try to remember to check back later.

It is a pretty sunny morning, but oh, still so cold.  More snow is coming tomorrow, although not supposed to be too much.

I slept in later this morning and still need to get  my  "Up and at'em"  working better.  Mornings are just not good for me.

Need to get some coffee and breakfast.  I see it is after 10 a.m.  Morning is almost gone.

Glad that there has been news from our June.   Hope she is getting better each day.

Larry, good to see you here, also.  Although, still sorry that you are not feeling all that great.

Sue, glad that you are safe from all the devastation down your way.  30 miles is still pretty close,  so happy that you are ok.  I, too have seen the aftermath of what tornadoes can do.  We lived in Columbus, Georgia when my husband was in the service and there was an tornado in Alabama that was close to us and we weren't even aware until it was all over with and saw some of the ruin from it. We felt very lucky.

Take care and have a good day.

Good Morning from the chilly
rocky coast of Maine.  Sunny, but
cold.

JeanneP..
I am glad to see that you live in
an area that has great public
transportation.    That makes
all the difference in the world.

Glad to hear from Cory about June.
And Larry you are keeping up
with us all,  also .

Spring is right around the corner,
Since we turn our clock ahead this
weekend..    The day will come I beleive
when we won't have to be switching our
clock around.    I hope.  I know that Maine
is trying to figure out a way to make that
happen ...

Although they are talking about switching time
zones...  Bah HUMBUG... Just as bad,  if
not worse!!!    IMHO!
 :tickedoff:

Have a great day,  everyone!

Good morning from the Interior where we are still having highs and lows in the thirties with snow falling overnight and still melting in the morning! While we may even look like a snowy cityscape, you can see signs of spring advancing, and we seem to have left the cold behind in February.

Farrah is eating well and seems to have gotten over her initial clumsiness from the anesthesia remnants and her nail clipping. She would leap and miss the target by inches and look so surprised.

Yesterday Farrah was still following me around and very talkative. She is still alerting to the hallway and wants the world to stay out there, and she'll stay in here, thank you very much!  ;)   The vet office called me yesterday to see how she was doing and see if there had been any difficulties.

Alan and Dora rescued another cat, All black with some white hairs and white whiskers. The vet said the little male is six weeks and the mother and kittens were surrendered.

Anyway, Pet Pride spayed Mom when the kittens were old enough, and everyone will now have a secure inside home. Alan named the little guy, Moe.

It's good to see some posts this morning, especially from Larry.

I noticed some fluctuation in the sound on my TV and mentioned it to Tom the other day.  We just recently changed to Xfinity for faster Internet speed for Tom so Tom called Comcast and a man came out this morning.  This house had facilities for cable when I moved here but I was not able to get it for a couple of years.  I should have had two connections but there was only one.  Since at the time there was only me, I let it go and Norm and a friend fixed it so I could watch TV in the family room (I did stairs then).  Later I had a TV put in the computer room and Norm and the friend ran a cable to this room with splitters.  The man here today said the wiring I have is not for today's TV and/or Internet, so he has been running new wiring.  I have no idea how much this will cost, but it will benefit Tom who has complained about the Internet speed still being slow, however faster than it was before we changed.

During all of this, the cat has been keeping out of the way.  He doesn't take to strangers and right now he is under the davenport.  When he comes out, he goes to the slider to watch for birds.  He's funny because I won't see him and all of a sudden he comes out at my feet from under the couch (I am in the living room).

It is a bright sunny day but chilly and no snow - yet.

Sandy, yes, EDT will come this weekend.  I am sure at one time years ago we were in the Central time zone, but not now.  It has amazed me that we are in the same zone as you because there are some 1000 miles between us.  The time was when Michigan did most of its business with New York, but I think it doesn't matter now and I think we'd be better off connected to Chicago.  But while farmers would rather we be on the same time year around, golfers like the lighter evenings and they'll probably prevail.

Patricia, it's good that Farrah has recovered so nicely and seems to be her old self.  How many cats does this make for Alan and Dora?  I like black and white cats.  Like Sweetie Pie and her kittens.

For the in-house Jeopardy fans, some bad news. "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek has been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Trebek, 78, broke the news himself in a video posted on the show's YouTube account. He said he plans to keep working while he fights to "beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease." Trebek even joked that he must keep hosting the game show, as he has since 1984 because his contract runs for three more years.

MaryAnn, Moe makes three with Duchess and Bonnie, the older female cats. They are keeping them separated for now and plan on introducing them slowly over a two week period. I haven't seen him yet but Dora says he's a little charmer, all roly-poly.

She said he cried the first night but they put a small travel clock inside some rolled up towels and that and time seems to help. Duchess wants no part of the little one yet but Bonnie has once or twice played footsie under the door with Moe.

There is an old saying that cats are like potato chips, you can't stop at one

We are three thousand miles from the Seattle but early on some businessmen lobbied that our three time zones were excessive and they wanted one time zone for dealing with the lower 48. So now there is the only one-time zone for 663,300 square miles! You can imagine the logistics! :(

Mary Ann

Sometimes I wonder if the powers that be think (thimk?) before they act when they make a state as large as Alaska one time zone.

I saw the video by Alex Trebek on my computer news.  Norm's former MIL had pancreatic cancer and she was gone three months after the diagnosis.  So was Michael Landon.  I had a friend who had it and she had some surgery.  She was never the same afterward and her husband had to care for her; she lasted a year.  The programs are taped two or three months in advance so we'll see Trebek for a while but I wonder how long he'll be able to lead the program and even if he does fight it, what will happen.  I am sure he has enough money to fight, but I read it is complicated surgery for both the patient and surgeon.  I wish him well.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

I saw Alex Trebek on TV last night, announcing the bad news about his pancreatic cancer.  A doctor came on afterwards, and said that that cancer has one of the lowest of all survival rates, so it doesn't look very promising.  However, he went on to say that there are clinical trials going on, and the results look good.  We are friends with two couples our age, and both couples have lost a daughter to pancreatic cancer.  One was 61, and the other was only 56.

Patricia - Good to hear that Farrah, has done so well since her visit to the vet.  Has she been able to eat okay, or having a hard time with the kibble?  I guess as long as there were no extractions, she would recover from the cleaning very quickly?
I've often wondered about the single time zone in a state the size of Alaska!  Especially, considering that so many much smaller states are divided into two zones.  We voted this past November to have year-around DST, here in California.  However, it won't go into effect until the Federal Gov. considers it and votes it in.  I voted no, because I would prefer year around Standard Time, like AZ . . . but I was in the minority.  Everyone loves DST. (except me!) ::)

Mary Ann - You might get a much better TV picture, clear sound, and more channels, now that your cable is set up correctly.  Little things make a big difference, when it comes to cable television.  I can imagine that Kendrick disappeared as soon as the Comcast worker got there.  That was what Winnie used to do also.  As soon as he heard the door bell or a knock on the door, he was up quick, and racing own stairs to his hidey-hole, where he stayed until he decided it was safe to return.

I also noticed this morning that there were lots more messages on S&F, than we've had in recent weeks.  I hope it continues, and that all those who posted, will keep it up!

JeanneP - I feel bad for you, being all alone throughout this long cold Winter.  They keep saying that it's almost over, so hang-in there!

Larry - I hope that soon, you will feel up to posting one of your long messages.  In the meantime, we will wait patiently!

Joy - I enjoy reading your messages every day, so I hope you return, and write more! :)  I liked your letter to the Duluth message board, so very much!

Mary Ann

Marilyn, when I turned on the TV a while ago, it came on instantly, which is something it had not done before.  It had not taken forever and I didn't mind that it wasn't instant.  I did not have trouble with the sound except even on quiet days it acted as if the wind was blowing hard enough to make the sound waver.  I think the man rewired our entire condo for the TV and Internet.  I am listening to my music channel and everything is smooth!

A few days ago we had a roast that Tom fixed in the Instant Pot.  Tuesday I had a roast beef sandwich that was delicious.  Today I made a small stew for myself - cutting up a few baby carrots and part of an onion, then adding slices of the roast and I added some of the grease in the bottom of the dish.  Umm, good!  If I have enough ambition, I'll cut up the rest of the roast (there isn't much) and fix some stew for Tom as he will be here for supper.  He's subbing in a Criminal Justice class today.  They have that in high school!

I've had kind of a mixed morning because the technician was here and I could not get online.  I was able to do some things offline.  But I could not read the S&F posts.

MaryAnn, I took Criminal Justice my senior year and one year of college, but the college class was enough to convince me I wouldn't want to make it a career! I was interested in theory rather than dealing with people.

The high school class was when Miranda Rights first became law, and I wrote a paper on it. I interviewed several local city cops and state troopers on their feelings and while the brass was all for it, (Perhaps they didn't trust my promises of anonymous sources?); but the ones on the street were not for various reasons. My paper earned a B however, my dad, (head of city public works); who knew the majority of those I interviewed was upset as he didn't feel it was any of my business what their views were.

Farrah didn't have any extractions, Marilyne, however, there were some periodontal lesions that they cleaned up and irrigated, so she is on soft foods for a while. Her balance is back, but she wasn't happy.

She is very alert to outside hallway traffic still today, and when someone put a flyer on my outside door clip, she actually growled a bit. I don't believe she liked her Tuesday outing and has no plans to ever leave the house again!  :tickedoff:
