There is a ship due in Duluth harbor at 2:40 EDT (1:40 CDT) and I can see it coming.  First one for me!

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Late morning here, and everything seems to be okay.  AJ is not having any problems from his tooth extraction. He ate some oatmeal, juice and coffee this morning, and is feeling fine.  Shelley and Claire are doing some cleaning things around the house that are long overdue, especially a hall closet with shelves, that are stacked and overflowing with stuff.  Does anyone remember Fibber Magee's closet? ;D That's what we're dealing with here!

It looks like June's family chose not to put together an obituary for any of the newspapers in the area.  Maybe June made that request herself?  I recall that she was well aware of her circumstances, when Hospice was called in.  Some people don't want an obituary, because they feel like all of their friends have gone before them, and there is no one left to read the announcement.  My dad told me many times, that he wanted to be cremated, no funeral service of any kind, and no notice in the newspaper.  When he had his stroke, I honored his request.

I still feel June tried to let us know in a strange way that she was leaving us, she was ready to leave us, or she had already left us..It was her way of saying goodbye to her friends in Seniors... Do you all remember when we spotted her name at the bottom of our page amongst our members who were in list, it was round that date, 4th March, and then for the two or three days afterwards, yet June hadn't actually signed in since the 24th of February, nor had anyone else done so using her name...For those who believe in the powers that be, hold comfort in the thought it was June trying to say a final goodbye to us all, well I would like to think this so...

Strange things are happening!  I wrote a fairly long post a few minutes ago and wanted to respond to Marilyn's post.  I could not find it.  So i signed off as usual and saw Jackie had posted, so I came back to B&T and there was Marilyn's post, but mine was no where to be found.

I had thanked Patricia for the picture of the Stewart J Cort.  She got a good picture because the Duluth camera kept freezing.  I thought there were quite a few people watching the ship come in and there were a lot of school-age children.

I hope AJ continues to feel good after his tooth extraction.  As I remember, I had no pain or trouble after I had a tooth pulled.

Now I'll see what happens to this post.

MaryAnn, you have posts in both Photos and in here that you are confusing.

I too am glad that AJ was doing well after the dentist. There was a time when I was sure I was funding my dentist's lifestyle! LOL

Jackie, Dorie had mentioned that she was looking in and reading posts for June at one time. Also that she was unfamiliar with the setup.

Patricia, I tend to be confusing at times, and not on purpose!  Sorry if I confused you.

I have said that I put several dentists' children through college.  The only thing good is that I expect the dentists to outlive me.

Thank you JACKIE and MARYANN for the welcome back. I had to do a search of the forums again tonight to get in here.

I, too, have searched and search every know; avenue to see if I could find a obituary for Our June.  I even looked at her Son Gary's church to see if there would be something there.  I know that June had a brother that she mentioned she helped take care of in his illness before he passed, but I never remember her mentioning any other siblings.

Welcome back to you, Beverly.  I am sorry to read that you have not been well.  I hope you continue to feel better.  I do not know if you have seen that Toni Lee passed away last week on the 19th.  I was sure sorry to learn that news.  I w8ll always think of her fondly when we met in Williamsport.

I wish you all a good night of rest.

Jenny, I think there  will not be an obit for June.  When she moved to Stanton in Rowntree, I believe she was unfamiliar with the place but it was near to her family.  I think her memorial service was at Rowntree and the residents were her only present friends.  Take it from me, at 94 most of your friends have already died.

Go to Photos Old and New where Bubble posted a picture of June that Gloria Z had and it is a nice memorial to June.

Hi Everyone. We are going to have a beautiful sunny day.  Not peppy today so am just going to check in.  I have read everyone's postings and appreciate them.

Mary Ann

Hi Larry, I greeted (?) you in the Soda Shoppe, but I'll say "hello" here too.  I hope the sun makes it a better day for you.

I've spent a while watching the American Mariner go into the harbor at Two Harbors MN.  An icebreaker was going ahead of the ship, and around the ship, to make it easier to dock.

It's a bright sunny day here with the temperature getting near 50 degrees.  I can tell by the trees that Spring is near, however, I don't see any actual green.  But it's a beautiful day!

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Good morning everyone: It's 9:30 here, and Shelley and Claire, just now started their drive home.  It will take them between two and three hours, depending on traffic.  It's pouring rain at the moment, so that won't help matters. We really enjoyed their visit, and they helped us with a lot of little things.  Shelley did all the cooking and clean-up, so that was a little break for us.

AJ's tooth extraction has caused no problems for him at all.  He feels like eating/chewing regular food today, so we shall see.  I made him some scrambled eggs for breakfast, plus plenty of oj and a banana, and he did fine.

Sandy will be leaving tomorrow, for Lydia's funeral services.  She will attend the private graveside burial service on Friday, and then the Catholic funeral mass will be held on Saturday morning.  Saturday night is the Celebration of Life, at a local restaurant, where Lydia and her husband spent a lot of time, and knew everyone.  Originally, AJ and I were going to attend the Church service, but we decided not to go after all.  We were only planning to go, to support Sandy, but she  will be busy helping the family, and will stay over for three nights.  We would have to drive up and back on Saturday, which is a grueling two hour drive each way. So we will send a donation, in her name, to a non-profit charity.  I don't know which one, but I'm hoping we will see a newspaper obituary today or tomorrow.

MaryAnn, I know what you mean at 95,  a few years ago there was 7 of us in our Michigan  rummy club now I am the only one left. No mud pie friends left.

Gloria D ( Lindancer ) you are right, " we are never too old to learn something new each day, " as long as our brain keeps functioning and we can still laugh, there is hope for us yet.. ;)

As Liza Minnelli once sang, laughter makes the world go round, or was that money... ;D

Jenny, yes I too found Gary and Dori's church and separate emails addresses....just cant find anything else...???

Joy

Good morning.  A beautiful, sunny morning here.  Hope the sun is shining wherever you all happen to be.

It looks like the ice is just about gone in the Duluth channel and most of the lake, also.   Looks like the snow is just about gone, also. Hopefully, it won't be too long before the visitors will be coming back.  So far, I have not seen any ships arrive or depart yet.

Are the rest of you that look at the Soo Locks experiencing not being able to get into the site?  It says something about the site being closed down because of the lesser activity.  Sure hope it is restored soon.

Since it is early, nothing exciting has happened as yet.  I woke up sometime during the night after having a bad dream.  I was trying to get back to my old house and I was so lost.  And, I haven't lived in that house for over 20 years.   I don't know where all these crazy dreams come from.

But, I am up and awake now, so need to get on with the day.  Hope you all will make it a good day.

Hi Everyone. It is our second day of sunny weather and is to get into the low 70s this afternoon.  Scott and the girls were here last evening for supper and Pat had put together a meat loaf.  She has found this a pretty easy meal to make since she discovered putting  all of the ingredients into the mixer and letting it do the mixing work.  The past couple of days haven't been very good for me as have been so tired I haven't wanted to to anything but lay down or sit and do nothing in my easy chair.  I am not sure today is going to be any better as took my shower this morning and almost feel several times in the shower as my legs seemed too weak to hold me.  I think we are going to have to take down the towel rack in the Master bath and put another grab bar in its place as it isn't safe to grab the towel rack for support.  Enough complaining as I am grateful to still be here.  Scott is going to pick up a sub at Firehouse Subs and come out and share it with us at noon.  He was suppose to have today off but has been called in to work late this afternoon and evening and that is when he normally would come out.  He did bring out the ramp for the garage and put it up but decided it wasn't safe anymore so he folded it up and put it on the street and it has already been picked up by the city this morning.  Once again I am going to have to beg off from making individual comments this morning as just don't have the energy to do so.

Mary Ann

Joy, try this link.  I had the same message and wondered if others were getting it, but no one wrote anything until you did today.  I found this recently and it is the old site, but it works!  I did see a ship go through the locks yesterday but did not see any on the map this morning.

Larry, please don't worry about individual comments, just let us know you are here.

We have a lovely sunshiny day started and our temperature is already over 50 degrees.

Tom is teaching today and that makes him happy.  I do wish his college courses would hve allowed him to get a teaching certificate but they didn't and he feels it would take too long at his age now (nearly 62).  I would gladly foot that bill.

Now that I have my taxes printed, I am going to look over the hard copy, then go back to the computer and e-file the federal.  I think I cannot e-file the state.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

Joy, you probably won't see this in time, but a ship is in the Soo headed for a lock and toward the East.  10:53 am EDT.

Mary Ann

Lindancer

Good morning, sun is shining.  MaryAnn, seems lot of activity around the Duluth channel, the people sure do turn out for the ships.

Joy, I get that same message, when I go into the Soo locks. I also had a weird dream the other night. I dreamed I took my DIL to church, but i had a seat that was backward to the altar, This was the presby.church I belong to 35 years ago in Southampton

Larry, I have 3 grab bars in my shower and a chair

Click for Riverhead, NY Forecast

Marilyne

Mary Ann - There's a ship at the Soo right now, as I type this.  The cam you just posted is the one I have always had, and works just fine.  It says Karl's Cuisine, at the top?  Is that the official one?

Mary Ann

Marilyn, to me the link is identical to the one that doesn't work, but I'm not that knowledgeable about such stuff.

My family was concerned about the grab bar I was using that had suction cups.  I had no problem with it but occasionally, it would fall off the wall.  I ordered one to be permanently installed and Terry put it in so now I have the grab bar at the side of the tub and the newer one on the wall beside the tub.  I also have a chair to use but I haven't gotten the hang of that yet.  I find I do most of my shower and washing my hair while standing up, but the chair is there - just in case.

Mary Ann

Sandy

Bath chairs are good but what is most
important is having very secure railing to
hang on to.    I grabbed on to a towel rack
once and it collasped almost taking me
with it.

What ever you can can get your hands on
in the tub is what you will automatically
grab for....   so please be sure that every
thing with in reach is securely attached.

We have had this conversation before in
here  and IMHO,  there is no excuse for not
securing everything that my hand can reach
when in the tub.

It is almost easier and safer to sit in a
chair in the bath room and do a spot wash...
We really do not get that dirty any
longer  to put us in the position of
falling...

Just my humble opinion... (again)
I hate to see any one fall when it
can be avoided.

love  to all

Good Luck,  everyone.

Nothing much for me to report today but we did double back to my opticians to collect my new ( expensive ) pair of reading glasses, my purse is £200 plus lighter, ( i have expensive tastes ) ;D   ...I was told Tuesday when I had my eyes tested that the glasses would take a week, then a phone-call came through yesterday when we were out mid day at our seniors bingo, ( church hall ) telling me they are ready, so off we went for my fitting..I was told Tuesday I didn't need to get another pair as the pair I have are still ok, as just like last year my eyesight hadn't changed much, but I insisted on an extra pair, as it now saves me from walking from one end of my home to the other wondering where I had left them, both pairs I shall be flitting between, although my new pair will be a tad better for reading in bed at night, when comparing the two pairs whilst reading the smallest print in the opticians...

Our today weather is dry, warm and sunny..

wjoan

Mornin all.  Busy day yesterday.  Waited for the phone man to come and install my new land line.  Cannot  function well with the cell.  He was rather confused when he got here bjt after checking out my MODEM I think he finally got the idea.  H did have my Internet shut down as he had no idea what he was supposed to do here.  Gee, how odd is it to have a land line installed?  LOL

Today I am having a haircut.  Don't have to to be there til later but it is just downstairs so no biggee.  Other than that not much is new.  Hope you all have a nice day.

sun is shinning now and the temperature is delightful, however a storm is moving in later this afternoon and it will eventually be snowing once again😢

LARRY, so happy to read that Scott and BOTH girls were there for dinner last night.  I love meatloaf but mixing it up is the real chore, so I, too, started mixing it in my mixer. Glad Scott will be bringing lunch to you today.

Tomorrow our oldest grandson will be competing in a GeoBee.  He has wond his school, his district and now this is the state competition.  We hoped to go, but seating is limited to 2 and of course his mom and dad are going!  IF he gets into the finals tomorrow then they will move to a auditorium and there will be seating. If the weather is not too bad we will drive up and watch him.  It is being healed at Denver University.

wJOAN, you are right....having a land line installed is quite a rarity these days.  We have a land line and always will as it is the one thing Bob got out of his retirement is local service for a minimal price.

MARILYNE, I have a few Fibber McGee closets right here in this house right now.  I have been trying my best to get through them but it is NOT easy.  My go away stack is still lacking!

JACKIE, how nice you already have your new glasses....but it did lighten your wallet....that seems much too expensive.  Guess you better give us a picture with you wearing them so we can see why you had to pay that high price🤩

Thank you, MARYANN, for the clickable to the harbor cam.

I sure appreciate all the effort that has been done to find out about Our June, but I do believe we will never find anything more so we are now just left with our memories of this dear lady.

JOY, I often have strange dream just as you shared about trying to get back to your home of many years ago.....most of the time I find that the only connection to many of my dreams is that I am trying to do something and I am NEVER prepared....like I a: going on a plane and I have not packed my bag and I am rushing around trying to do it and of course I wake up totally frustrated.

I am off to get my hair cut....I need it badly.

Enjoy your day!

Jenny

Denver, got the land line thru the same Co. that does my Internet so it is real  REAL cheap.  Save a host of money and no more frustration for me.  LOL  I love it.

Mary Ann

Jenny, considering what I think about June's services, I decided I would not look for an obit any longer.  I think everything was more or less "self contained (done at Rowntree)" and that is it.  I hope Micele is resting comfortably between sessions.

Joan, I am not sure if I still have a landline phone or not.  I have the same cordless phone and same number and Tom tells me I do not have a landline.  For his Internet convenience we switched from AT&T to Comcast recently.  AT&T was quite slow and Tom needed something faster.  It didn't bother me one way or other, but I'm not working.

Jackie, it's the frames that drive up the cost of glasses.  I have progressive lenses and they're not cheap either.  I think I paid $400 for my present glasses but I've had them for several years and as my optometrist can't improve my eyesight any more, I will have these as long as I live.  Fortunately, I still like them.  I also have computer glasses but they're not for show.

Joan, I think it is odd these days to have landline phones installed when so many people have cell phones, which I do not.

Sandy, my family felt the suction cup grab bar would give way just as I grabbed, so I bought a metal bar to go on the wall.  Terry (now deceased) installed it and if it comes loose, the whole wall will come with it!!!  I had the one that came with the tub when I bought this condo so now I have two grab bars, both in convenient places.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Joan - We also have a landline, and wouldn't be without one.  This is a big rambling old house, so we have a landline extension in two bedrooms, beside both computers, and in the basement.  The main landline phone here is the old fashioned kitchen wall phone! :yikes: It's considered a real antique now. LOL

Mary Ann - I think we determined a while back that you do have a landline? If it's a cell phone, then you have to charge it every so often, and I think you said you didn't have to do that?

Denver/Jenny - Nice to see you here in Bait and Tackle! My Fibber Magee closet, is looking better, but it was only rearranged. Nothing much was thrown out, except for old paper stuff and magazines, etc.  I'm sure it will be out of control again very quickly, because AJ and I have the habit of opening the door, placing something wherever there is room, and then closing the door quickly! ha ha.

I'm also thinking about your dil, Michele, and praying for her to go into remission, as soon as these latest chemo treatments are finished.  It's just such a sad situation, knowing that she has those children, who need her all the time, and I'm sure she is exhausted and sick from the chemo.  They are probably too young to understand?

Jackie - I know what you mean about the expensive eyeglass frames!  Seems that the reasonably priced ones, are not at all flattering.  No matter how old we get, we want to have something attractive, that we feel makes us look as good as possible!

Vanilla-Jackie

#12688
Mary Ann...
...yes you are right, yes its the frames I chose that were expensive...once again I went for an all plastic tortoise shell, again... I dont like those metal over the nose or metal armed glasses, I cant get on with those...at least this pair felt comfortable on my face, although she did tighten my other trusted pair to not slip down over my nose...

Wjoan...
...enjoy your new haircut, this always makes us feel better, well, once it is done and over with, I have never been a lover of my time sitting  in a hairdressers chair..I have two weeks to wait for mine, was hoping to have got a booking in time for my birthday last week, but he, the one I want was too filled up, or not available on my chosen "less busy"in the salon day...

Jenny...
...I had to look up what a " Fibber McGee " closet was, ha ha, and now I know...I had been thinking it was a piece of furniture, and a good quality piece of furniture... ;D  Oh another haircut, everyone seems to be having a haircut today...I am now counting the days...12-11-10...I have been carrying too much weight on my head..

Marilyne...
...if I can make my expensive outlay glasses last a few years, it will be money worth spent, and of course one can always have the updated lenses put into the glass frames if we get attached to them..

Mary Ann

Jackie, I have chosen metal frames at times and liked them.  I now have a plastic in a maroon color.  With white hair, I need some color.  I have always liked the frames I have chosen and my trouble in reusing them is my optometrist refuses to reuse them because she can not guarantee a replacement for the bows in case one breaks.  I have never broken a bow since I started wearing glasses at 17 years of age.  The only time I have ever broken a frame was when I removed my glasses using one hand and the frame broke at the nose.  I was lucky in that my then eye doctor had a frame that fit the lenses.  Since my present eye doctor cannot go further with my eyesight, I will keep this frame forever - I hope.

Marilyn, I may not have a landline phone because the phones - 3 of them - sit in bases and the main phone sits in the charger.  With a landline, as I understand it, if the power goes off, the phone would still work.  With my setup, if I lose power, I have to use my TracFone.  Tom has his own cell phone and both of ours work off the modem for the Internet.  The main phone is at my elbow and sometimes I'll take the phone off another base for when I'm in bed.  My phone seldom rings, so it doesn't matter.

Jackie, ha ha with your having to look up Fibber Mc Gee's closet.  That was a comedy program of years ago and opening the closet door was a weekly feature.  Oh, for those comedies again, but only oldsters would appreciate them and there aren't that many of us left.

My gosh, it's over 60 degrees right now!  I know we'll have more snow, but I'm loving what we have while we have it!

Mary Ann
