Denver

A good Saturday HELLO.  We had snow over night so it is still quite cool out today.

We had a much too active day yesterday.  Our 13 year old grandson was in a National Geographic Bee at Denver University.  He came in 5th place and was happy with how well he did and we sure enjoyed being there watching. There was a long walk involved in getting in to the place, so that was quite the challenge for me, but I made it!

Today our granddaughter is in a dance competition way up north, so she and her parents spent the night up there in a hotel as they had to be there by 7 AM and knew there was going to be a storm.  The two grandsons and the doggie spent the night with us.  They keep us well entertained and are a joy to have stay with us.

Thank you JACKIE for sending me the link to this site.  I am having a terrible time getting in to these forums and keeping them open individually.  All was going well until I x'd out one and now I can not get to them unless I go from one to the other....I know it is operator error!  I am sorry to read that Richard is back on meds again for his diabetes.  What a shame they will not allow you a safe drop off in front of your salon.....seems some places do tend to want to cater more to others rather than making spots available for the disabled.  I will be honest and say, I think it takes being disabled to realize what situation are safe and which ones aren't....sad to say.

I need to pay some attention to,the troops around here......have a great day.

Jenny, as I read your post about the grandchildren, I wondered if you were as busy with four sons as you are now with your grandchildren.  Since Norm's grand are all out of school and adults now, we don't get involved in those activities.  And his great-grands are too young for such things.  I doubt I'd visit any activities because I'd be unable to walk far myself.  And some places don't lend themselves to wheelchairs.

Patricia, I think it is interesting that scientists can figure out how many thousands and millions of years ago that something happened.  I can only go back for the most part to the mid 1600s in genealogy, although I do have info back to the 900s on one family.

I just picked up the mail and it wasn't worth the effort.  I did let Kendrick out on the porch and he enjoyed wriggling around but he was ready to come back in the house.

Always loved the Olive Garden, just kind of expensive for me.

Hi all, Been a busy day so far but I like busy, keeps me out of trouble.  Got some more books from the Libray today so I am set for a few days.  LOL  I go thru then like crazy.

...being busy makes the day go quicker... ;)

Mary Ann...
...I guess you are like me, always expecting that large cheque to drop through our letter box...( PS, large in amount of money, not large in paper size )  ;D

Jenny...
...I bet you wish you had the stamina and energy of your grandchildren...but then again, dont we all?  :)

Patricia...
...it was only this morning I was part watching ( missed the beginning ) of a programme with professor Brian Cox- Wonders of the Universe...I found it really interesting...now set the recorder for his future programmes...

MaryAnn, what I find absorbing is that they have actual physical proof and are finding more that correlates their ideas. It isn't simply someone declaring something or someone's existence, but by finding verifiable physical proof, they are discarding various hypotheses and refining knowledge of an ancient experience that decimated and changed our entire planet.

Plus they are finding through telescopes and humanmade "rovers" for want of a better definition, correlating physical remains on other planets and moons in our solar system. Can you imagine the powered velocity that shot material from that landing into space and halfway to the moon?

Wouldn't it be nice if we could use carbon dating in genealogy as they do with archaeology?

Jackie, unfortunately, your link only works in the UK according to the description.

While watching a ship approach Duluth, I saw something that I had never seen "in person" (still saw it on the computer) before.  I have seen many pictures of dogs with wheels on their hind legs, but there was a couple standing away from the channel with a dog, looked like a German Shepard or a dog of similar size, using the wheels.  The couple stood pretty much in one place so the dog wasn't visible at all times, but it was good to see.

Patricia, I know scientists have the capability of dating things for all those years and I do find it amazing and interesting.  My father would find it absolutely fascinating.  He really was interested in almost everything.  From a very Spartan bringing up, he managed to acquire a thirst for knowledge and I think a little of that thirst rubbed off on me, but not to the extent of his.  He probably would be glued to a computer searching for more information if he were still alive.

Good evening, beautiful spring like day. Right now I am tired
Plan to watch golf, but at 12 friend up Island called and said she was coming over put the coffee on, she was bring desert. She is interested in buying a place in here. Next my neighbor who just had knee surgery came over, doctor told her to walk. Next another friend popedin to see if I needed anything done around the house. About 5 after everyone had left the lady down the street stooped by to see if I would like to go to the grocery store with her, Still felt pretty sharp from all that talking and coffee. Now I am looking at the bed going to bed with a left over cookie and reading after I finish here

Marilyne and Mary Ann I like the Olive Garden, but it is about 10 miles from here The Out Back is also tht far away. I would like to see a Long John Silver come here, they make the best hush puppies ( almost as good as my MIL, I could eat her hush puppies and not the fish)

Jenny, your grandchildren are one of your blessings  prays and hugs

Shirley, I am so glad I bought the Inogen oxygen container, mine only ways a little over 2 lbs. the portable they gave me weighed 9lbs. This I carry over my shoulder when I shop. You see it advertised TV all the time

Good Sunday morning Norm's B&T, make it a good one if you can, now if only he was here to join us...Been up re-setting all our clocks, put forwards one hour..It is now officially Spring in our home...

Patricia, Jackie - There are a number of videos of Brian Cox on YouTube, including the first three episodes of Season 1, Wonders of the Universe. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCAdSoVA6Cim8DdyaDd8xKN5BzyBypfoN

I've watched some of his videos and like his presentations. Here is what my computer found on YouTube for Brian Cox. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=brian+cox+ Some of these are clips from Wonders of the Universe that BBC uploaded in 2013 to celebrate World Space Week.

Again, nothing much of interest going on here this last week. I am finally catching up with my March reading which took a lot of my time. I have barely done anything in the yard yet, but my sister has been out quite a bit in the last few weeks. Funny how I used to be the big gardener and now don't have much interest, whereas Sue never bothered much with yard work until she retired.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.  It is a cloudy morning but we only have a low chance of rain.  I am just going to check in this morning as used up most of my energy getting my bath this morning. I am listening to our Church service from last week.  It is recorded on Sunday morning but not available on the website until towards the end of the week.

Mary Ann

Hi Larry, it's good to hear from you.  Save your strength for another time.

I just returned from Dot's and my usual Sunday-after-church and we had our usual Tuna Melt and Cream Pie and coffee.  All were good.  Our minister this morning was a man brought up in our church and who now is an ordained minister himself.  He is the minister at a church in Rochester Michigan, across the state from us.  He is a good speaker.

I think Tom and I are going to pick up his former MIL at Cedar Springs later today as she, James and the twins come downstate from visiting James' mother north of Traverse City.  They have been visiting Sue to give Alicia a short vacation.  She has a full-time job, plus caring for the girls.  James helps, but Alicia does the most.  James told Tom they might stay until Monday.

After our warm days, today is a shock.  The wind also is blowing and that makes it a bit colder.  It was 25 degrees at 8 am and now at nearly 1 pm it is 37 degrees.  The wind is what makes it colder and the sun is not shining.  We saw a few snowflakes.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

We had sunshine this morning but it is beginning to look like some rain is coming our way.  It is a little cooler today.  It hasn't rained for over a week so we could use some rain.

Sato, I was surprised to see your message.  Larry says thanks for thinking of him, and he enjoyed his quiet and peaceful day.  He had been outside the day before his birthday using his power washer on the walks and driveway so he was ready to rest.

When you live here in the south, you get black mildew or mold on the cement walkways, especially in shaded areas. Most people use a power washer to clean at least once a year—-just one of the downsides to living in a warm and high humidity area.  I don't mind the humidity, but people with bad arthritis say it makes it more painful.

Joan, It is nice to see you posting.  I thought of you often after your fall and am glad you are doing OK.

Mary Ann, I'm glad you and Dot were able to get out to church and enjoy your usual meal, especially the cream pie.  That sounds so good!

Marilyne, I trust your visit with your friends was a happy occasion.  I also prefer the Outback restaurant to Olive Garden but like both.  No one has better bread than the Outback and Carrabba's.  I've been using the dough portion on my bread machine and have been baking a really good loaf of bread.  I wish I had their recipes for their bread so I could try it, but all I have been able to find on the Internet are someone's guess about it.

Have a good day everyone.

Mary Ann

Jean, the cream pies vary, but always some kind of cream - coconut, sometimes.  Today our pie had chocolate chips on top.  We usually cannot identify the kind but the pies are always good.  I won't need to eat until suppertime now.

I'm glad Larry enjoyed his quiet birthday.  I do too, but I'm not always given the choice.

Mary Ann

Good morning from a very warm Interior! We had an early snowmelt which was the exact opposite of last year and the usual two weeks of rain has passed with yet warmer temperatures arriving.

The Ravens have gone back into the mountains for cooler climes, and the smaller birds have dispersed from the large winter flocks and returned to the species only smaller ones. So now we wait for Mother Nature's next big reveal.

I was sure that I posted message here this morning, but obviously I did not, or I forgot to click on the "post" button?  Nothing happening here today of any interest anyway, so no great loss.

Sato - I was happy to see your message here in Bait & Tackle, and I hope you return often, and start posting here!

Patricia - I hope your snow has melted for good, and won't return? Today is our first really warm day so far this Spring.  It's 72 degrees on our back deck right now at 1:30, and may go up to about 75.  It won't last though, as a cold rain is predicted for tomorrow, and the remainder of next week.

Jean - That's really interesting that you get black mold, on concrete sidewalks and shady spots.  That is something that we don't have to contend with here on the West Coast, as the humidity is always low. (Except when it rains!)  I also think the bread at The Outback, is the best of the chain restaurants.  However, The Olive Garden, does have a larger selection of entree's on their menu.  Our Outback closed about six months ago, and the OG is quite a distance from us, so we don't have much chance to enjoy either one very often.

Mary Ann - it does sound like your usual Sunday brunch, and always makes me envious of the tuna melt.  I'm sure you'll have a nice visit with Tom's former MIL today, and maybe you'll see the girls?  I didn't realize that Alicia had a job?  That would be extremely difficult with two year old twins.

wjoan

FlaJean, thanks.  Had to wait til the cast was off my right hand and the hand was working.  No way to type before that was done.  :)  Had missed you all.

Joan, I know you have typed since you returned, but does your hand still hurt when  you type?

Patricia, it's  nice that You Tube put those links in as it will give people a chance to see what goes on and all of the 1000 ft freighters.  I had seen all of them while hunting for more cams.  I want to caution people that those cams are not "live", that to see present action you still have to go to the Duluth Canal cam.

I've had a busy day and I'm tired.  I have an idea Tom is already in bed, or will be shortly.  He picked me up about 4 pm and we drove to Rockford to eat at the Corner Bar.  In August 2017, the Corner Bar burned to the ground.  It was rebuilt in about a year and they were able to save the brick facade from one side of the Bar.  James was headed south from Omena after visiting his mother.  He had his grandmother and the twins with him and it wasn't long before they arrived.  The girls had woke up from a nap in the car and weren't too sociable at first, but they woke up more and were their usual sweet selves.  Eventually Annie, her SO, and friends showed up so we were a big group.  We all left before Annie and group did because Jamie had to drive to Holland and Tom and I took Carol (grandma to James and Annie) home in Sheridan.  Ironically, all the way to Sheridan, driving East, the sun was behind a cloud.  Coming home, driving West, the sun shone brightly.  Tom being taller did not have the trouble I did (shorty).  We got home about 7 pm.

The Corner Bar is known for hot dogs and there is a Wall of Fame for people who have eaten a dozen in a short time.  The wall was lost in the fire but someone had photographed it shortly before the fire and the wall was replicated.  I had two chili dogs and Tom had a chicken basket.

On the way home, we listened to the Duke-Michigan State game that MSU won.

My usual bedtime is 10 pm but I doubt I'll last that long.

Patricia, I took a couple of ship rides from your link.  Nothing looked familiar and I should at least have seen the area we see today.  I went back and scrolled down and someone posted that it was not a Great Lakes Lock but that of the St Lawrence River.  Regardless, it was interesting.

I saw a couple of freighters leave the Soo today.  Thanks for posting the links.

Mary Ann

MaryAnn, I wouldn't know the Great Lakes from downtown Kalamazoo. Regardless, I also found it interesting.

Denver

A good Sunday HELLO.

A little bit of sunshine for us today but it did not get very warm. All the snow from Friday Night is gone though.

MARYANN, it always makes me smile when you tell about you and Dot going to church then out for a meal🦋🦋  Then you went on to have a busy day.

JEAN, I had forgotten about the black mold on concrete in the South.  In Colorado we Never have any mold outdoors as it is much too arid here.  In the NW they get a Green mold that is very slippery and also has to be removed with a powerwasher.  You can spay something on it to help it not to grow, but it doesn't work very well.  Happy to read your Larry enjoyed HIS Bday.

Oh, JACKIE! I, too, wish Norm could be here to enjoy a nice visit....and Papa John too.  I am very sentimental over all of our friends lately that are no longer with us.  It was a year ago today that Joan Lavelle passed.  The recent deaths have me super sad, and then thinking about how many of them have gone.....jus5 makes me appreciate the ones that are still here with us.  IF ONLY I could have even just a tad of my grands stamina and energy.....that would be delightful.

GLORIA, I am so blessed to have my grands...when the sadness of life starts to overwhelm me, all I have to do is find a picture of my new little baby grandson Jonah.....his smile just speaks to me.....then the sad tears turn to such happy ones.  We just HAVE to count our blessings.....

I must get going.  Tomorrow DIL goes into the cancer center for her chemo, so we will be in charge of the 3 grands after school for the rest of the week.  Just pick ups from school and taking them to dance, tennis, and piano.... then on to the next day of other things.  Fun, fun.  Nothing too hard....but it takes us BOTH to get it done.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny, our OTB got started years ago.  Dot and I would go to church, then return home to pick up Norm and go to Mr Burger, a hamburg joint, aka The Cholesterol Pit.  They would go to Florida in September through April, but would return home for Christmas.  When they were gone, I did not go by myself.  Eventually Norm started going to church with Dot and the three of us would go out.  At that time, it usually was eggs and toast for me, eggs, ham or potatoes for Norm, and maybe eggs or more often oatmeal for Dot.  When I would visit them in Florida, the routine was the same.  I think the main reason for eating out after church was so Dot would not have to cook.  One day I looked at what was available and saw the Tuna Melt, ordered it and liked it so I kept ordering it.  After Norm died, Dot and I began to order one Tuna Melt with two plates.  The Tuna Melt is cut before we get it so we put one half on each plate and occasionally we vary it by getting burgers - Dot likes onion burgers and I get a plain hamburger.  One thing that does not vary is the pie - always a cream pie .

Jenny it surprises me that your oldest grandson is 13.  I remember "way back when" and you were bemoaning the fact you had no grandchildren, also none were on the way.  See how far you've come in 13 years!  I am happy that I'm on good terms with my great nieces and nephews so I see their children occasionally.  None of them live really near here, but the come to see their parents occasionally and we all usually get together.

Patricia, I tried to think of something humorous about your not knowing the Great Lakes from downtown Kalamazoo and I couldn't come up with anything.  I will say on a map you would know one from the other  Kazoo does have a river going through town, but it is not part of the Great Lakes although it does flow into Lake Michigan

Here I've written a book about nothing of interest.  It goes to show what happens when a person is tired.  I'm going to bed now!

MaryAnn, I may be wrong but I believe the name came to mind from an old Jimmy Durante bit that has stuck somewhere in the back of my mind,a song entitled, "Timbuctoo to Kalamazoo and the Choo Choo Train."

...your memory is sharper than mine...you picked up today is one year since the day we lost our Joan FL...Hard to come to terms that last year 2018 we lost not only Joan but Halkel, Jeanne Lee and Chia, all in a short space of time, of which all names can be found in our " Tranquil Cove " folder room, as of yet our June Drabek has not been added to it... :(

Hi Everyone on this April 1st.  It looks we will have a mostly cloudy morning and then a sunny afternoon with a high only to 60 degrees. I am hoping to have a much better day than yesterday. The unstable angina started again yesterday afternoon and evening.  It never got too bad but just uncomfortable.  I hope to have a little more energy for today but so far that has not been the case.  Pat had set out my breakfast tray last evening so I only had to get a couple of things from the refrigerator.  Scott was coming out yesterday afternoon but never made it as he fell asleep and didn't awaken until after 7 pm and that was too late so he said he would try to get out sometime today.  He has today and tomorrow off from work so hope he can spend a few hours with us. I am going to have to just check in for today.

Mary Ann

Larry, your checking in is longer than I expect mine will be.  The sun is shining but when I first got up at 7 am, our temperature was 18 degrees and it is now 33 at 10:10.  I think the sun will warm things up, but I don't know how far.

Tom has gone for groceries.  He was checking out as I was adding to our list so one thing didn't get added.  I told him I'd live without it - it was salad greens.

I was tired from yesterday's visit to the restaurant and intended to go to bed early but did't make it there until my usual 10 pm time.

I have some computer problems that Tom must attend to after he returns.

It is cool here morning but should get up to high 60s by noon.  We had a nice rain yesterday but all the rain coming in today is to our east.  So we should have a sunny day here.

Larry, continue to take good care of yourself.  It is always good to see your "check in".

Mary Ann, I sure hope Tom is able to take care of your computer problems.  Computers can be so frustrating but more and more so necessary.

I had to cancel my dental appointment when I fell in Feb. because I didn't want to go in with two black eyes.  I have got to force myself to make an appointment today and quit putting it off.  My teeth are getting old along with the rest of me and I want to take care of them.

Angel, that song kind of rings a memory bell.

Jenny, my grandchildren are all grown and I have 4 great grands, but they are not close by.  Our youngest daughter lives a few blocks away but has no children.  I hope your DIL's treatment goes well.  I know she must be thankful for your help.
